Disclaimers – I do not own any of these characters, and this is yaoi so if you don't like BL, then don't read. Also, this story does not follow the plot of the anime or manga, very AU and OOC
Important Info: Zero is 100% human (still a hunter) which means Kaname did give him his blood for Yuki's sake and he doesn't have the tattoo on his neck, everyone knows Yuki is a pureblood and Kaname's sister, she lives with the night class, the Kuran family was destroyed (Kaname and Yuki being the only survivors), and the Kiryu family is alive and thus Zero doesn't hate vampires although he still has a general dislike for them

Chapter 4
The first thing Kaito did was pull Zero away from Kaname, both he and Yagari standing in between them. Zero lets him. Basically, the hunters end up in one corner and the vampires stay on the other half of the room, crowding around Yuki's bed. Kaien looks disappointed as Yuki has remained perfectly still despite all of the commotion.
"First," Zero begins, "I am not turning into a Level E because I am immune to any pureblood's venom." He states bluntly. Everyone looks at him questioningly. None of them, vampire or hunter, has heard of such a thing.
Aido hesitantly speaks up, "Is this a hunter thing? Because you are from one of the oldest hunter families?"
Zero sighs and considers agreeing, it would definitely make things simpler, unfortunately, "I wish it was that easy. That is a part of the reason. The best I can say right now is that my blood is similar to that of a purebloods." Many of them suddenly look alarmed, Zero was secretly a vampire?! "Wait, wait. Don't jump to conclusions. I said similar." He emphasizes.
Kaname continues the explanation. "A pureblood has many natural defenses to serval different types of attacks, more so than any other vampire or human. For example, if a person was poisoned or sick, the body immediately creates white blood cells and antibodies (1) in an attempt to neutralize the threat. A pureblood can do this on a higher level which is why we hardly ever get sick in any way."
"Right," back to Zero. "My body naturally does the same thing. To me, a pureblood's venom is just like foreign bacteria and my body automatically neutralizes the effects."
"Okay," Aido agrees. "Scientifically, it makes sense. But that doesn't explain how you can actually accomplish such a feat so easily."
Yagari and Kaito were still glaring at Kaname. "Hey. Did you even know that Zero could do that?" Kaito accused.
Kaname answered simply, "Yes." The fact that he gave no further explanation for his actions just pissed them off more. But he knew that they would not believe anything that he said, so he left it to Zero.
"He's bitten me before." Zero states, surprising everyone. Several of the vampires felt jealousy bubble up. They have done this before? But they didn't even like each. And it's against school rules. Did they leave campus together at some point? Was Kaname injured and it was an emergency? Why didn't they hear about this?
Of course, the hunters had their own questions and assumptions as their rage increased. Did Kaname force Zero? Attack him thinking he was allowed to do anything because he's a pureblood? Did he intend to turn him the first time?
Kaien cuts in. "I am very curious about this, and there is a lot more that they need to explain, but we have more important things to worry about. My adoptive daughter is still unconscious with no signs that she will be waking up anytime soon."
"As I said, she will wake up when we deal with the one that cast the spell." Kaname looks to Zero.
"It was Rido."
"What! He died years ago when the rest of the Kuran family was killed!" Ruka is the first to react.
"Let me finish," Zero grumbles, he always hated to be cut off. He was literally about to explain, so there was no point in asking questions that he was already answering.
"No. How would you even know who attacked you? It was an ambush, right?" Ruka really doesn't know when to quit. "Don't lie just because you don't have an answer." At this point Kaname has had enough and glared at her, carefully releasing some of his pureblood aura for everyone to sense. Silence fell upon the room immediately.
"As I was saying, it was Rido. Even though it was an ambush, I still had a brief moment to search the area for any enemies. I can easily recognize a pureblood's aura. And I know it was Rido."
"If that's really the case, then we are dealing with a powerful pureblood who has the experience needed to pull off something like this." Kaien knows Zero is strong and you can't sneak up on him so easily. Not to mention that Rido would need the ability to bypass their defenses, perform a spell that affects (but does not kill) both a hunter and a pureblood, plus be able to hide his signature so that they wouldn't detect what kind of spell was keeping them in a coma. "This was definitely planned. He has the means, but one thing is missing: the motive."
He glances at Kaname. "I have a couple of theories. But the one that makes the most sense is that he is after the secret to reincarnation."
…
"Do not joke with me, vampire." Yagari growls at Kaname.
"I am serious," Kaname replies calmly. He is not surprised or offended. Even purebloods don't live forever. You can't cheat death. "Sort of," he smirks. Yagari's glare intensifies. "The reason I did not come to help with this situation sooner was that I was busy regaining some of my memories that had been tampered with. I remember living thousands of years ago and I reincarnated into the Kuran family. Or at least that is what some members of the Kuran family believed." He paused.
Yagari was about to tell him to stop with this bullshit, but Zero's hand on his shoulder stopped him. "There was... trouble and I needed a way to hide in plain sight. I found a series of spells that would allow me to transform myself back into an infant and seal away my memories. Juri and Haruka claimed me as their birth child and introduced me to the rest of the Kuran family. As years passed, many of them realized that I had somehow sealed my own memories, despite being a child. And some came to radical conclusions. They claimed that an ancestor of the Kuran's had been reborn, essentially reincarnated. I'm sure you can guess, there were a few who wanted such an ability for themselves."
"So Rido attacked your sister when she was away from the school, in a mostly secluded area, in an attempt to draw you out. Zero just happened to be in the way at that moment." Kaien finished. "I assume he wants to trade the knowledge of reincarnation for a way to wake up Yuki."
"That's the theory anyway." Kaname corrected. He could think of one or two other reasons that Rido may be after him, but he had no evidence, and it was even more difficult to explain than the reincarnation idea.
"So we need a plan."
