Book one: Fire

Chapter 5: The Lost Princess

A/N: So this was really forced if you can't tell lol. I just don't like writing Ursa. Ahh honestly hate it.

Ursa was sitting by the pond feeding the turtle ducks, she had been so deep in though she didn't even notice the light footsteps approaching her. She didn't notice it as the child sat down beside her. She only noticed her presence when Azula began to cry.

Ursa looked toward the child and once she realized it was Azula became confused. Her daughter never cried. She gazed over her daughters curled up body, and instantly noticed the scorch marks on her back. "Azula," Ursas voice came out firmer than she meant it to. She noticed Azula flinch and stifle her tears. Ursa didn't mean to be rude to her child, however she was just confused Azula hadn't cried since the day was born. Ursa relaxed her face and touched her hand to her daughters back.

"Azula, what happened sweetheart." She said tenderly, noticing how Azula flinched as she touched the skin close to the burn.

Azula looked at her mother hesitantly. It was as if the girl believed she was just a figment of her imagination. "I just messed up in practice," Azulas voice trembled as she stared at her knees. She looked scared, as if her mother was going to hit her for a mistake.

Ursa wondered how she had managed to burn herself on the back, until she realized it wasn't Azula's doing. That must have been why she was scared of being hit by her mother.

Ursa rose to her feet with new determination. After kissing Azulas raven hair, she ran into the palace. At first she looked in his chambers, and was disappointed to find he was not there. She then decided to go for the throw room. She was about to enter when she noticed the high sage slipping through the doors. Curious, she went to her daughters favorite hiding space to watch.

The room was large, and empty save the throb itself. It had become tradition that the firelord stood concealed behind fire, for he was to important for this world. She rolled her eyes as she watched the sage bow to Azulon. She did not hate Azulon, he was not as Everlook as he was made to be. However, this did not mean she liked him.

When the man rose he spoke silently, forcing her to focus intently on his words.

"Qe did what you requested Lord. We tested the child." He said, head still bowed. If she was closer she would have seen the fear on the mans features as he told this.

"And what of the results Xia Bou?" The Firelords asked his subject.

"You suspected correctly my Lord. The child Azula is the Avatar.

Ursas hands flew to her mouth to cover her scream. It was a scream of surprise, a scream of fear for the child she would surely lose. She fell back from the curtains and quickly ran to her corridors, she needed a plan.

And so, she came up with one. She came up with a plan in which Azulon would die peacefully in his sleep. A plan in which the temple would fall, and a plan in which no one would no the truth.

The first emotion Zuko felt was shock. His Uncle had just told him that his sister was the avatar, but it wasn't possible. Hed seen the avatar, a boy named Aang. no, it couldn't be possible. But, he had seen her airbend. He had seen her manipulate an element that was not her own.

As realization came to him, his shock turned into anger. Anger that the avatar had been infront of him the whole time. Anger because she was the true traitor to her nation. Anger because no matter what he told himself he wasn't truly angry, he was jealous.

He was jealous because yet again she had something he didn't. It wanst enough to be blessed with blue flames, she was also the most powerful bender in the world. She was a master of all the elements (or she would be). If his father found out, Zuko could kiss any dreams om being crown prince goodbye. He would completely forget about his sons existence.

Zuko lashed out, hurling an angry fist at the ground. Fire exploded into a cloud of dust as it hit the earth. The dust caught in his eyes and throat, forcing him to cough.

"It's not fair," he screamed. He wasn't screaming it at anyone in particular. He was screaming at everyone. At his dad, who had always loved his little sister more than him. At his sister, for always possessing what he had. At his uncle, for lying to Zuko. and, most importantly himself. He was angry at himself.

Everything I did, I did for you and your sister, remember that. Protect her.

Aang sighed to himself as he stared at the baby in front of him. His clothes had the symbol of the fire nation, and from the letter they had just received they could assume he was the general's son. The baby made a happy gurgling sound and looked up to Aang.

"Yip-Yip," Tom Tom said, blowing the bison whistle he had been playing with. Appa groaned beneath them, causing the saddle to shake slightly. Aang reached forward to take the whistle from his hands, but as soon as it was gone the baby began to cry. Aang rubbed his eyes, he had heard that sound all night, and pitied the family of the child. Aang was about to give the whistle back simply to silence the child, when Tom Toms attention turned to the animal parched on Aangs shoulder.

"Mo-mo," the baby clapped his hands together. He reached for the creature and managed to grab the tail before the lemur escaped his clutches. The lemur clawed at Aangs shoulder desperately trying not to lose grip before being pulled into the childs lap. After about a minute of shaking, momo calmed down and curled into the childs lap, enjoying the strokes of his furr.

Aang felt bad. They hadn't meant to take Tom Tom hostage, they just, had.

Was it bad that they were using him for leverage? Of course. But, Aang needed to free his friend. Sokka veered appa down, allowing Aang to get off with Tom Tom. with any luck, the exchange would go well.

And, it did. They got the king back and got rid of the boy. Aang felt like things may finally be looking up for his Gaang. That was, until boomie told him he could not teach the avatar earthbending. So, this whole thing had been a waist of time. Aang sighed as he steered Appa towards the swamp.

Zhao set sail for the earth kingdom with one goal, finding Azula. Ke knew he would, and once he did, he could claim his reward. As promised by her father, her hand in marriage.

Azula's footsteps were the only sound she heard, save for the occasional buzzer bee. The voices had silenced themselves, and she was glad. She couldn't wait to make her way home.

A/N: yeah ik, not my best moment. But hopefully the next chapter will restore my honor lol. Am not feeling good(that time of the mounth) so I may have more time)
