Monday, June 7th, 2010. Day 1 in the Culinary Arts Program.
Nathan: I was getting ready for my first day in the Culinary Arts Program at JobTrain in Menlo Park when I spotted one of my framed photos of me and the Imaginaries, which was taken after the last day of 4th Grade in Foster City School.
The more I looked at it, the more I missed having my Imaginary friends around.
"If only you guys were still here." I said. "You've would be so proud."
As I turned to put my buttoned shirt over my black one, I heard a voice say. "We're still here for you, Nate."
I turned back to the photo when another voice said. "What Mike means to say is 'not physically.' But...we're still there for you, Nathan."
OK, that was me doing the voices of Mike and Sulley, along with many others like SpongeBob, who said. "And we couldn't be any more prouder."
"You sure I can go through this without you?" I asked in my regular voice.
"You'll be fine." I said in my Patrick voice. "Just have fun cooking all that food."
"And be sure to check how much money you're making." I added in my Mr. Krabs voice.
"Uh, Mr. Krabs, it's just school." I said in my regular voice. "The program is only the first step to finding a job in the future."
"Oh, right." I said in Mr. Krabs's voice.
"Well, just be sure you don't get stuck with someone idiotic." I said in my Squidward voice.
I raised my eyebrow with a sly smile, saying. "You're not fooling anyone, Squidward. I know you like SpongeBob and Patrick."
"Sometimes." I said in Squidward's voice. "OK, maybe a lot."
After a witty chuckle, I said in my Captain Amelia voice, which I believed was coming from another photo of me and the Imaginaries during the pancake breakfast party inside Mr. Beckwith's 5th grade classroom back at Foster City School. "Whoever he meets and whatever he does, Mr. Tentacles, I'm sure young Nathan will do tremondously well in his new school."
"I just hope it's the same as Foster City School and Bowditch." I said in my regular voice.
"You've got nothing to worry about." I said in the Captain's voice. "Just go out there and make us proud."
"Yes, ma'am." I said in my regular voice with a salute.
I grabbed my book bag and headed out my bedroom door, but not before calling out. "Wish me luck."
"Good luck!" I said in my Imaginaries' voice, then closed the door.
