Chapter 4

Leaving

(Italic=Telepathic talking)

~The Next Day at the Front of the Academy Entrance~

It had been a long couple days but the day had finally come for Diana to leave Torrington behind nd begin a new chapter. One that was free of her annoying brother and full of opportunity. By which she was hoping that this school would help her understand what had happened and put her mutant abilities to good use. Not that she didn't know how to use them already but if there was more she could do, more she could learn about her abilities then she will take it. While getting her things together Diana couldn't help but think about what life would be like for her at the school. Would she meet other people like herself? Would she be accepted looking the way she did? Who could really say until she arrived. Looking at her room one last time, Diana smiles remembering all the good memories she made before walking out closing the door behind her.

Making her way through the halls of Torrington Diana kept her head held high as she walked past everyone in the hallway. There were not many people looking her way but the ones who were watched with curiosity. Who would have thought Diana would ever transfer too another school. Some felt sorry for her while others whispered to one another. Diana could not hear much of what they were saying. She was speed walking down the hallway. Getting out was her main priority. Ignoring the whispers and stares of her former classmates, Diana made her way too the main front doors.

Before she could place her hand on the handle Java, Billy, and Jenny called out her name. Making her turn around and be pulled into a bear hug. A tight one curtesy of Java and his magnificent strength. It was only when Diana managed to get Java to release her before she ran out of air did her let her go. The trio had come to say goodbye one last time before Diana left.

"Okay I know we said our goodbyes last night but we had to see you off and say them one more time. Java and Billy wouldn't stop crying unless they got to say goodbye again." Jenny told Diana.

"Aw you guys.: Diana was touched. Her friends cared so much about her to come see her off. She had to hold back her tears as she hugged and thanked each one of them for their kindness. "Thank you, really thank you. I don't think I could have asked for a better group of friends then you guys. I'm going to miss everyone but I promise to call and come visit once I'm settled."

"Diana won't go away forever?" Asked Java.

"No Java, I won't be gone forever. I just...I just require some space. A change in scenery for a while. Hopefully the heat will die down and Martin might come to his senses." Diana replied though she somehow doubted that last part.

"Oh I hate goodbyes." Said Billy, a gloomy look upon his face. "Promise you'll call us once you arrive."

"I promise. Now I better get going. It is going to be a long ride and I don't want to keep the Professor waiting." With her last goodbyes said, hugs exchanged, Diana walked through the doors to meet her destiny.

Outside a nice car and two people awaited near the vehicle. One was an African woman with long white hair who looked to be in her early thirties. She stood next to a well dressed man in his thirties to early forties. Though he had no hair he looked to have an intelligent appearance. Only thing off about him was he sat in a wheelchair. Diana didn't think much about it. She just walked down the steps up too the pair.

"Good morning Miss. Lombard, my name is Charles Xavier. I am the director of the Xavier Institute for Gifted Youngsters. This is Arora, one of the instructors and a good friend of mine." Said Charles making introductions.

"Its a pleasure to meet you both. Thank you again for making these arrangements for me to be transferred too your school." Diana replied.

"It was our pleasure Diana. We are always happy to welcome a new student to the family." Said Arora giving Diana a friendly smile. "I see you are ready to go."

"Yes, yes I am. I am ready to start a new chapter of my life." Diana replies. "Though I do have some questions. Like how did you know about my situation?"

"You could say I have a way of understanding my student's inner thoughts Ms. Lombard." Charles replied without so much as moving his lips. Much to Diana's shock, she did not expect the Professor to communicate with her through the use of telepathy.

"H-How did you...? Did you just...?" Diana was lost in thought as she tried to process what just happened. Sure she had heard of telepathy but never in her life had she thought that she would experience it in person. Course this shouldn't be something Diana isn't use to by now. Nothing shouldn't surprise her as much these days and yet this came as a surprise.

It took Diana a couple seconds before she could speak again. "Sir, does everyone at your school have abilities much like your own?" This wasn't the first thing she thought of but figured it was the best to go by. The Professor knew what she was thinking but didn't pay any mind and answered the question.

"Yes Ms. Lombard, you see I opened my school for children with unique abilities like yourself to feel comfortable, safe, and encourage them to learn how to use their gifts." He told her. "You see not everyone understands those who carry the X gene which causes unexpected mutations and changes to your DNA and body. Some mutations are far more extreme then others but at the Xavier Institute everyone can feel accepted. The doors are open for anyone who wishes to come and learn. I will never turn my back on a person in need."

"Wow Mr. Xavier that was a lovely." Said Diana.

"Thank you Ms. Lombard and please feel free to call me Professor. All my students call me that." Charles replied.

"Certainly, so long as you call me Diana." She said. "Anyway could we get going? I am eager to leave before Martin shows up and starts ranting about me leaving and other things I don't need to hear right now. If you can read my mind you'll know that my brother and I are on bad terms."

"I understand we can go now if you like." Said Charles.

Feeling grateful Diana put her bags in the back of the car. She could not wait to leave Torrington behind her. True she was leaving a few friends behind but she would keep in touch. She cared about Java, Billy, and Jenny. It was Martin she could care less about. He didn't care about her. He has been a total jerk to her since that incident with the Center and Octavia. More of a jerk then he usually is to her.

If he was a real brother and teammate he would support his sister when she needed it most, but no, he just laughed at her, mocked her, made her grow green with envy and jealous. Her jealousy and anger clouded her judgement which made her make some foolish mistakes. Resulting with her joining Octavia and capturing those monsters. Thinking she was doing something good Diana was happy to oblige. It wasn't until later that she discovered the truth a little to late.

After everything that had happened Diana vowed to never do something that stupid again. Let alone fall for something that was to good to be true. She was smarter than that. She should have known better then to fall for an evil scheme. Perhaps the need to show Martin she was better then him got too her head? Her judgement was clouded. She became green with envy. I could on and on about this but you guys get the idea by now. Diana was going to leave her past behind for something better. At least she hoped it would be better. The Professor seemed nice but was it real or an act? She would have to keep her guard up for the time being.

If she fell for another evil scheme she would never hear the end of it from Martin. Oh how he would hold this on Diana for a long time. Just thinking about it gave her a minor headache. The sooner she left the better. Rubbing her templets Diana tried to relax before she actually got a headache. Why did things in life have to be complicated? Who could really say why it happened but it happened.

Just as she was about to head out, an unexpected visitor came running outside. Diana did not need to turn around to see who it was. She took a deep breathe before speaking.

"What do you want Martin?" Diana asked.

"Your really leaving? I didn't think you were actually serious." Martin said. "Look if this is all part of some-" Diana cut him off before he could continue.

"Stop it. I do no want to hear your excuses Martin. I'm through listening to you, I'm through with your jokes, I'm through apologizing when you clearly won't accept it, and I'm through with you all together." Diana was telling Martin off whether he wanted to hear it or not. "You are no longer going to use me as a pawn in your sick joke or touch me ever again. I'm leaving and you can't stop me. In fact you are not even worth my time. I'm leaving so goodbye Martin."

With that said Diana got into the limo slamming the door before Martin could respond. He was left standing looking at the window. It was only when he heard another voice that he snapped out of it. Martin turned his head in the direction of the voice and came face-to-face with Xavier.

"Mr. Mystery I presume?" Said Charles.

"Yeah that's me, can you by chance get Diana to come out and talk to me?" Martin asked the professor to which he was replied with this.

"I am afraid that is not within my power. Your sister has a right to make decide what she wishes to do and right now it would be best to give her some time with her thoughts."

"Look if this is about that prank I pulled on her the other day she's got to loosen up. It was just a prank." Clearly Martin did not realize how upset Diana was with his 'little' stunt. Thinking it was just some radical prank he pulled and will be known for throughout the school.

"Maybe to you but Diana is rather upset over what you did to her. She may not show it but she was hurt by your actions."

"Come on it was just a joke. Diana's just overreacting. Trust me I may not know what goes on in her head but I do know she'll stay mad for a day or two then move on." "I don't know what's got her so moody and acting this way but she can't stay mad at me forever. Besides, she's already tried this whole leaving thing only for it to bite her in the butt. She'll be back, I'm sure of it."

The Professor said nothing in response. He moved his wheelchair to the other side of the vehicle to join Diana, but he had these final words to say to Martin.

"You seem confident in your words Mr. Mystery, but just how much of that do you believe? I know a part of you feels bad for pulling that prank on Diana. You were concerned she was injured when those paint balloons fell onto her, and you are concerned now for her well being. When you are ready to talk you may come see her." He handed Martin a piece of paper with the address to the Institute on it and with that said the professor joined Diana in the car before it took off down the road.

Martin was left where he stood. Speechless by the Professors words. It did not even occur to him that the Professor knew about what kind of prank he pulled and with what object he used to pull it off. Nah, Diana must have told the Prop what he had done to her. Then again would she really open up to a complete stranger? That didn't sound like something his sister would do. Looking down at the address on the paper Martin began to think. Perhaps he should do a little research on the Institute before doing any investigating.

And that ends the chapter
