Chapter 57 – The Disagreement

It was late when she descended from the sky. She flew for hours, deep in thought and conflicted on what she learned in Junon. Should she tell Reno about Genesis? She knew in the end that she would impart the information to him and the President. What bothered her was the information about Tifa and their group.

How could the President order an execution, or did he even order it and it was Scarlett that took the situation into her own hands? Something didn't seem right and she was conflicted on how to act or react to this dilemma.

Jalyne rested her hand on the french scroll of the patio door and hesitated, bowing her head. She looked around the pool deck and wondered if she would be able to give this up. She felt that strongly about the situation. Reno knew the President had captured Avalanche. Why didn't he say anything to her and more so, why didn't Rufus?

Was it even any of her business? Jalyne's brows furrowed. She was a Turk - was she not part of the family? Jalyne heaved a sigh and entered the apartment.

"I'm…home." She somberly stated to herself. She glanced around the dimly lit apartment. She had come to love this place and considered it home, no matter how strange this world seemed to her.

Jalyne moved towards her bedroom and stopped, closing her eyes and inhaling deeply. Oh, that scent of cedar mixed with a masculine musk she just never quite pinpointed came to her. Jalyne stepped into the doorway to a pleasant surprise she wasn't expecting.

Reno was sleeping, arms behind his head with the covers only waist high, and his chest moving with steady rhythm. She smiled softly and snuck into the bathroom for a shower, hoping she would wake him. Jalyne took her time, allowing the hot water to soother her muscles.

She looked at her eyes in the mirror and noticed the circles starting to appear. All this worrying wasn't good for her. Jalyne thought of Solaria and Fraezkta and wondered how they were faring in her absence. There was so much to do in T'Karvia but they understood that she was needed here to finish out what she started.

Jalyne glanced at her hands and clenched them into fists. How did she do it? It was her, not the Lifestream, that replayed the images within the cave. She had moved time.

Jalyne turned to the doorway, gazing at her love lying within her bed, resting peacefully. Though she wondered why Reno was here, it didn't bother her that he was.

She climbed quietly into bed, lightly brushing his marks and his lips with hers, and smiled before rolling on to her stomach and bending one leg upward, hoping sleep would claim her after being in flight for as long as she was. She closed her eyes and sighed.

Reno knew when she came home, showered and brushed his markings, containing the flitter that went through him at the light kiss she gave him. He waited a few minutes, hearing her even breathing before rolling towards her. Sliding one arm under her pillow and pulling her hips to him with the other, Reno buried his head into the crook of her neck. Jalyne tensed and he wondered why she would at contact with him. She sighed and relaxed pushing lightly against him.

He lightly pulled her still damp hair away from her neck. "I missed you, yo." Reno whispered sultrily running his hand along her side and eliciting a moan.

"I missed you, too." She returned shuttering at his touches.

He kissed her along the neck, biting and nipping at her slowly and caused her to squirm within his grasp. She breathed heavily trying to contain the moans to no avail. Reno moved his arm down to caress her thigh with Jalyne instinctively raising it higher for him to have better access.

Reno ran his hand along her ass and back, massaging her and gripping her with need before sliding two fingers within. He coaxed her slowly, drawing out her first orgasm with slow and steady strokes. The spikes of his red hair tickled her and he raised his other hand around to her neck.

Jalyne mewed loudly and as Reno pushed into her, she lolled her head back, and raised her hips in earnest. Reno growled appreciably in her ear keeping a steady rhythm. She clenched her hands underneath the pillow as he stopped, allowing her second orgasm to coat him, much to his pleasurable growl.

"Please." Jalyne whispered as he resumed the steady pace.

"Please what, yo?" he quietly questioned kissing her ear and squeezing just a bit more on her throat.

"Give it to me." She urged, sensing his restraint and need. "All of it."

Reno's chest rumbled and he grabbed hold of her hips, thrusting forcibly into her. With each thrust, Jalyne moaned or screamed and buried her face into the pillow. She trembled with each push and his heavy breathing and grumbles resonated to her ears. Finally, Jalyne arched her head back to try to look at him.

Reno stopped as he felt her exhaustion run through her body and gazed into her eyes. With a cocky smirk he rolled them over and Jalyne raised her legs on either side of him. He adjusted slightly, finding the perfect angle and grabbed her hips.

"Reno?" she breathed, lifting her arm upwards to cradle his face as she gazed at his turquoise eyes.

"Hmm?"

"I love you." Jalyne stated.

Reno covered his surprise at the statement by kissing her and increasing the thrusts. He heard… something within the tone of her voice. Something was amiss and it wasn't solely exhaustion. He finished with a great thrust as he felt Jalyne relax against him and slowly caressed her to calm her before adjusting into a more relaxed sleeping position. Jalyne sighed, closing her eyes and the steady breathing alerted Reno that she was asleep after a few minutes

Reno awoke, noticing the weight was off of him and glanced around, letting his eyes adjust to the darkness. He found Jalyne near the window, dressed only in her silk robe, gazing at the Midgar night sky. He took in her ethereal look as the moonlight framed her features.

Jalyne turned to look at him, the glow of turquoise standing out in the dim light. How handsome he was to her and even in conflict, she loved him more than anything. With an inaudible sigh, she turned back to the night sky, deep in thought. Reno slid out of bed and wrapped his arms around her, propping his head on her shoulder.

"Something happened, yo?" he ascertained. "You're not sleeping."

"Yes." She confided. "But it can wait until later."

He pulled her closer, noticing she tensed, but remained content to stand with her and wondered what was on this empress's mind.

Rufus was not pleased to hear of Genesis's return or Jalyne's account of what transpired in the cave. He directed her to some of the research associated with him and explained that he died over five years ago. The President was even more pissed off that Avalanche escaped when she told him and Jalyne buried her emotional conflict in listening to his rant. She couldn't ascertain whether he was mad because they slipped out of his grasp or that Scarlett was inept in her abilities to contain them.

The week went well as far as the Turks went. They each had their duties to attend to which consisted of gathering information on the public's response to the calamity.

Friday arrived and Jalyne requested an audience with Rufus of which he agreed. The other Turks were dismissed for the weekend and she promised Reno she would stop by for dinner in a little while. She entered the President's office and came to stand in front of his desk.

"Jalyne?" he questioned.

"Sir."

"What's on your mind?" Rufus asked lightly, studying her expression.

"I request a leave of absence."

He eyes widened and he stood to come around the desk, never leaving her gaze. He ran a hand through his blond hair and reached for hers with the other. "What's wrong?"

"It is personal, Sir." Jalyne whispered averting her gaze. "I'd rather not speak of it."

"I need a little more than that, Jalyne." He stated, lifting her chin to meet her eyes. She sighed before responding.

"I need time to think. I'm in conflict on what happened."

Rufus studied her intently before nodding his head in acceptance. "How long?"

"Indefinitely."

"Jalyne—" he started as she raised her hand.

"I'm not leaving Gaia and you can reach me by phone, if needed." Jalyne paused. "I-I just need to think some things through. Something doesn't add up."

Rufus huffed lightly. "Will you let me know if you need anything?"

Jalyne smiled wanly. "I will, Sir."

She descended to the Turks offices in search of Tseng to let him know of her plans. She found him behind his desk looking over reports when she entered. He quietly looked up when she appeared in front of it.

"Do you have a moment, Sir?"

"Of course."

"The President has granted me a leave of absence." Jalyne started to say.

"For how long?" Tseng pursed his lips.

"Indefinitely."

"The reason?" Tseng continued succinctly, lips in a fine line and he gazed intently at her.

"I need time to think." Jalyne commented raising her chin.

"About?"

"A great many things." She smiled.

"Such as?" Tseng pushed. "Do you not trust us?"

Jalyne narrowed her eyes at him. "I should be asking you the same question."

Tseng maintained a passive face, though he raised a brow at her.

"When exactly were you going to inform me that you caught Avalanche and was going to execute them?" she continued.

"You did not need to know."

"Really?" Jalyne scoffed harshly at him. "Considering all that I have done with them, the president would still consider them an enemy. You know I am to protect Aerith and yet Shinra wanted to blame them for the Calamity."

"The people need a reason."

"A scapegoat, you mean?" Jalyne sneered at him. "They had nothing to do with the Calamity and you all know it. When you realize that Cloud's group is not the enemy and we are on the same side – we may be able to figure a way to stay alive." She turned to leave.

"They committed crimes against Shinra. Have you forgotten that they blew up two mako reactors?"

Jalyne turned back to him glaring daggers. "Have you forgotten that you dropped Sector Seven plate? I think you are even."

"Have you told Reno?" Tseng quietly questioned maintaining eye contact.

"He will know in an hour or so. I am not pleased that you forced him to stay silent about what happened either. There are moral issues that I am not sure I can live with and that is the reason I am leaving." She looked over her shoulder at him sadly. "I thought I finally found a family…I suppose I was wrong."

She arrived at his apartment just before eight o'clock and knocked on the door softly. She had changed into a silky dark blue dress that had slits over her hipbones. She was nervous for she knew this would leave to a disagreement. The door opened to reveal a dark-haired, red-eyed, beautiful woman dressed in jeans and leather jacket. Jalyne spied Reno slipping on his jacket in the background.

"And you must be the one that stole the hottest, sexiest, red-head in Midgar." The lady stated impishly, standing aside and waving Jalyne through the door.

Jalyne stepped through, throwing a questionable look at Reno, who winked at her in return. He made his way to her, sweeping Jalyne up and giving her a kiss. "Jalyne – meet Avrie, Adrian's sister. Avrie – meet Jalyne."

Avrie bowed lightly and extended her hand to the empress, who grabbed it hesitantly after the shock wore off. Finally, Jalyne smiled at her seeing the resemblance to Adrian. They spoke for a few minutes and Avrie made her way to leave with a hug and wave to Reno. Jalyne turned to gaze out of the patio doors at the rain beginning to fall from the late winter sky.

"Sorry about that, yo." He commented. "I didn't think I'd have any visitors today."

"It's okay." Jalyne stated calmly.

"Avrie needed advice on Junon."

Jalyne turned to him. "For what?"

"The business deal for Adrian's new club."

Jalyne turned back to the rain remembering that she saw him in Junon earlier in the week. "I hope all goes well, then."

Reno came behind her placing his hands on her shoulders. "Are you going to tell me what's wrong, yo?" he paused. "You've been…off all week."

Jalyne closed her eyes. Why was this so hard to do? She turned to him and looked at him steadily. "It will start a disagreement." She advised.

"And what are we disagreeing upon, yo?" he lightly inquired.

"I was granted a leave of absence." She started observing his look of shock pass over his face before it settled into impassiveness.

"For how long, yo?"

"Indefinitely."

"Jalyne?" Reno's eyes narrowed. "What's the cause of this, yo?"

Jalyne took a deep breath, steadying herself for the inevitable. She turned again to the doors as he slid his hands down her arms to comfort her. "I-I am in conflict over the recents events and I need time to think."

"About you finding Genesis?"

"No." she said quietly. "He has a role to play in this, though I do not know what that is." She paused, raising her hands and allowing her power to come forth. "The first crossroads deals with my power."

"How so, yo?" Reno stood at her side and looked at her, raising a brow.

"Something occurred in the cave that I need to figure out."

"So you need to run?" he accused.

Jalyne turned to him, eyes hard. "That is simple compared to the second issue."

Reno had a sinking feeling in the pit of his stomach but remained calm though the turquoise eyes hardened. Jalyne reached up and cupped his face, giving him a kiss.

"I love you, Reno Sinclair." She said quietly as she stepped backwards. "But I need to figure out why Rufus placed the execution order on Avalanche."

His eyes widened. This came out of nowhere and that feeling in his stomach was now a rock. Jalyne took a deep breath.

"On a moral level, this was wrong and I need to figure out why." She continued stepping aside and walking to the door. "I also need to figure out if I can trust one that doesn't let me in."

"Jalyne." Reno swallowed. "It's not what you think, yo?"

She whirled around to face him. "It isn't? You knew what occurred and yet didn't think to tell me! After all I have done for them and with them, the Turks and the President thought it would be okay to execute them! All because the commons need a scapegoat!"

"I seem to recall you executing a sorcerer, Jalyne." Reno spat back. Her eyes should immense guilt at the statement then steeled as she looked at him.

"I did." She conceded. "And you have no idea how guilty I feel for destroying him."

"There was more to him wasn't there, yo?" Reno accused, changing the subject. She raised her head in defiance.

"Yes, there was." She admitted. "I loved him. A stupid infatuation, young and foolish love that teenagers get for some forsaken reason."

"And don't you think I would need to know that?"

"Why?" Jalyne inquired standing her ground as he came in front of her, anger evident. "Do I inquire on every bitch you sleep with? No. Because I really don't care who you have been with in the past." She leveled her eyes to him. "I need time to accept that the Turks do not treat me as family as I was led to feel. Pubic execution is another level of morality that I am not sure I can be a part of." She finished bringing the conversation around to the original issue.

Reno ran a hand through his spikes in disbelief. "Fine, yo. I'm sorry, I should have said something, but why do we have to argue about it?"

"We are not arguing, Reno. We are having a disagreement." She stated calmly taking a step backwards. It hurt her, looking at her love and telling him she was leaving for a time. He was shocked but she felt betrayed by her Gaian family. "Perhaps I am meant to never belong."

"Jalyne, Tifa and the group escaped." Reno explained as she backed away and turned towards the door to leave. "It turned out alright, yo." He paused, looking at her shrewdly. "The video feeds." He began. "Jalyne." He threatened. "What did you do?"

Jalyne raised her head defiantly and opened the apartment door only for Reno to slam it shut and corner her. "He really was going to execute them, wasn't he?" she asked, narrowing her eyes.

"I really don't know, yo." He seethed. "You might want to squash this moral high ground of yours, Your Highness." He snapped. "It doesn't matter here. We do what is necessary."

"At that is the problem." She snapped back. "Perhaps the President and the Turks need to think things over before acting."

He slammed a fist near her head. "What has gotten into you, yo?"

Jalyne stared him down. "I do not agree with that decision and I cannot be part of something that executes whoever just because they feel like it. It hurts me, Reno, and I feel very strongly about it. It wasn't right and after everything that has happened, I am having trouble believing that Rufus would still be like that. I need to sort it out."

Jalyne pushed him back and opened the door to leave when his question rang to her ears. "You haven't answered my question, Jalyne." He stated. "You know how they escaped." She paused at the doorway and looked at him over her shoulder.

"It was me that freed them."
