Ch.2 Whitley's Recruitment Part 1
One Day Later:
New York City, NY
It was the typical, Saturday evening for one Ashton 'Ash' Satoshi Ketchum, a young man who stood about 5'11" with unruly black hair and chocolate brown eyes, who was dressed in blue jeans, red and black tennis shoes, a black t-shirt, and a blue, short-sleeved jacket with white outlines on it. He was also wearing a New York Giants cap on his head and was sporting black and red fingerless gloves.
Yet, the one thing that was out of the ordinary was the strange watch on his right arm. It was similar to a wristwatch, but if activated could extend out. The color scheme was red and white, while the center seemed to be a silver button. It would strike quite a lot of curiosity if people looked at it long enough.
The device is known as the Pokematrix, or the Poketrix for short, a device from another universe that grants the user the ability to become a whole bunch of somethings. Things with powers and abilities that would make even some of the enhanced individuals of this world look on in amazement. Creatures are known as Pokemon.
When Ash was ten years old, he and his parents, Delilah and Richard 'Red' Ketchum went on a vacation to the Smoky Mountains when the device fell out of the sky and attached itself upon his wrist where it has stayed to this day.
At first, he did what any ten-year-old would do with a device such as this, play around with it, do things that he probably shouldn't, but then his father found out what he was doing. It wasn't a discussion that he liked to remember, but it was one that he needed, it was what sent him on the path to be a hero after all. Then, from ages ten to fourteen, Ash was trained under his father, an ex-Army Ranger, on how to defend himself in his human side, which in term seemed to give him more power in his Pokemon forms, which he seemed to be able to turn to any of them at will.
When he turned fifteen though, tragedy struck, when someone he made enemies with, an individual who had gained both psychic and magnetic powers, figured out who he was and invaded his home.
It happened while he was at school, but unfortunately, his parents were home. His mom survived with minor injuries, but it was his father whose life was ended, all because someone held a grudge.
Ash had always blamed himself for it, too. The individual who attacked was the head of a crime run in the northern part of New York, someone whose operations Ash had got involved with numerous times before his father practically ate bullets.
It was that day when Ash got a bit more violent when it came to criminals. The bruises turned to broken bones, and those he normally gave broken bones to... turned to broken bodies, especially any under his mob. Though he then ended up smoothing out again, especially after a long talk with his mother over what his father would want him to do, so he hardly killed anymore. Though, he still planned to kill the one bitch that took his father from him.
Right now, though, he was just walking down the street, eating a hotdog he had just recently bought from a hotdog stand not far behind him. It was rather peaceful at the moment, nothing the police couldn't handle, especially with that O'Brian tech they've been getting from that billionaire in Boston. All the while Stark tech was helping to get the city clean up. New York was looking a lot better than it has in recent years, and he was one of the reasons for it.
"Just hope I'm making you proud, dad," Ash muttered to himself as he then turned down the street, and just like that, he sees a car speeding past him, and following up with that was a couple of police cars. It made the eighteen-year-old's eyes narrow as he then quickly ate the rest of his hotdog.
"Well, time to go to work," he said to himself as he then quickly ducked in an alleyway, and pressed the center button on the Poketrix.
"Infernape," Ash said simply as in a flash of red and brownish orange, Ash was replaced by a bipedal, primate-like Pokémon that is primarily reddish-brown with sections of white fur on its chest, head, and lower legs. Several gold markings adorn its body: swirled, circular ones on its knees and shoulders flame-shaped ones on the back of its hands, and a stripe around its back that forms two swirls on its chest. On top of its head is a large flame, which is never extinguished. He also has an orange, rounded muzzle, long, round ears with blue inside, and a red ridge over his eyes. The eyes themselves are blue with yellow sclerae. There are five blue digits on both its feet and hands, and it has a long tail. On his chest was the symbol of the Poketrix, the red on the top half, the white on the bottom half, and the silver button in the middle.
He was now Infernape, one of Ash's more hard-hitting and well-known forms, and the form he may or may not have fought Batman with a year or so ago. Still, he was also one of Ash's faster, land-based forms, which he needed... he had a car to catch after all.
With a smirk, Infernape leaped from the side of the roofs before he reached the top and was sprinting towards the direction the police sirens were coming from. His enhanced hearing catching on to them with minor difficulty.
He was then off like a blur before he managed to catch up to the car and then managing to pass it up. When he got ahead of it, he leaped off the side of the building he was on, just as his arm was beginning to glow with white energy, just as he positioned himself to smash his fist into the car. The car then indented itself the road from the impact and would've flipped if Infernape hadn't made sure it remained on the ground. A few moments after he stopped the car, three thugs, due to the driver now being unconscious on the steering wheel. The three thugs then took notice of who exactly stopped their vehicle and froze, dropping the bags of money they had in their hands and pulling out their guns.
Infernape just rolled his eyes at that. Guns? They must be new to this if they think guns are gonna beat him. That only means he needed to go easy on them. The first thug began to fire the assault rifle at the fire monkey, but the vigilante easily blocked all the strikes with fists of flames before he charged forwards, and after ducking under the gun, nailed the man with a glowing white fist to the gut, sending him crashing into the car, with the back of his head hitting the door, knocking him out.
The second man quickly tried to aim, but a blazing kick from Infernape sent the gun crashing into the head of the third man, stunning him. The Fire/Fighting-type Pokemon then proceeded to give several shots to the body before laying out the second man with a right across the jaw, and that only left the still slightly stunned man to face off against one of the city's core protectors.
Though, it ended rather quickly, as electricity enveloped one of Infernape's fists before he lightly punched him, the electricity doing the rest as it shocked the ever-loving daylights out of the third thug.
When he finished, Infernape grabbed both of the two men and slid them over to the side of the car next to their accomplice, and that's when he realized that, when he looked up, he was surrounded by cops. To make matters worse, someone landed right behind him, someone that's been getting on his nerves.
That someone being a tall woman with straight black hair and blue eyes, and she was decked out in a strapless red bustier that was held up by a brace of gold resembling two W's. She has a large golden belt and blue briefs with five white stars on them, along with wearing red boots with a white stripe on the front side. She also has silver bracelets around her wrists, red star earrings, and a golden diadem with a red star on her forehead. She also has a golden lasso, which was hanging from her belt.
It was Wonder Woman, one of the founding members of the Justice League, and the one who has been trying to chase him down for the last six months, something both him, and his 'mentor' have been seeing as an encroachment on their home turf.
"I have asked you this before," Wonder Woman said as she had her hands on her lasso, "and I'll ask again, for the last time; will you please come with me, or will I have to bring you in by force."
Infernape remained silent, sure he could say something, but he prefers action over words, and besides, this species thrill for battle wasn't satisfied by pummeling some newbie criminals, but the sensible side of him knew one thing, trying to pick a fight with another member of the Justice League will not end well for him. Running into both the Batman and The Flash had taught him these lessons, and Wonder Woman had the Dark Knight's skills mixed with the Scarlet Speedster's speed, along with the strength to compare herself with Superman... he knew he needed to escape.
Fortunately for him, his escape came when a sai sailed and landed right in between them, making a smoke screen that was coming out of the handle. Infernape smirked, knowing full well who threw it, and knew he needed to take advantage as he was embraced by a light that was a mix of dark and light purple which then faded into the ground.
Wonder Woman tried to reach where he was, but he was gone before she could get him. She gritted her teeth when she turned and saw an armored individual turning away on a nearby roof. She was up there in a matter of seconds, just to see the figure leap off the side and into an alley, and when she ran over to go after him, she saw that he disappeared.
"Damn it," she muttered as she then stood straight up and activated her League communicator. "The shape-shifter escaped," she spoke up, "and it seems that he doesn't work alone."
"Night Watcher?" said the voice of Batman over the comms.
Diana sighed before nodding; "Yes, it seems the two of them are connected in some way."
Batman seemed to growl a bit before replying; "Return to the Watchtower, we also need to talk about your sister's recent activities."
The Amazon frowned as she heard that, but she ended up sighing before she took off into the sky.
Meanwhile, a familiar redhead had witnessed all the action, and when she saw that the Watcher and the shape-shifter worked together, she gave a tiny smirk. 'This might actually be easier than I thought.' Though, she knew that she'd have to be careful about this... especially if the League is after them both. Finishing the coke that she had, Whitley made her way to her car and got into the driver's seat.
She had the address where Ash Ketchum lives, and once she's there, that's where it should get interesting; and that also may be her best bet to finding the Night Watcher.
It didn't take long for Ash, who was currently in the form known as Gengar, to make his way back to his and his mother's residence, which was an apartment building just outside of Harlem.
Just as a shadow entered from under the door, did it rise out, revealing a dark purple, bipedal Pokémon with a roundish body. He had red eyes, a wide mouth that is usually curled into a sinister grin, and pointed ears. On his back are numerous spikes and he has smaller spikes on top of his head that are similar to tufty fur. His arms and legs are short with three digits on both hands and feet and also has a stubby tail to complete the look. The Poketrix was rested on the center of his body, right under his mouth to be exact.
This is Gengar, one of the ghost forms Ash has in his arsenal, and one of his original forms he had when he started out.
In a flash of red light though, Ash was back in his human form and sighed as he knew that it was getting riskier and riskier in recent months. The League has been hunting him, and from what his 'mentor' has been telling him, they have been starting to notice him as well.
The Justice League doesn't tolerate those who kill and deem it justice, calling them criminals like any other kind of thug. It was the reason neither Ash nor his mentor ever tried to extend the olive branch to them, but Raph himself had admitted one thing... It was only a matter of time before the heroes decide they had enough and went hunting them down.
It made the young man sigh, Raph has been at this for nearly ten years now, six of them in the suit he currently wears, and he's been at it for almost eight years himself... and now they are being hunted by those who claim to protect the innocent. Weren't there others out there who did the same form of justice as himself and Night Watcher?
He shook his head as he noticed his mother wasn't home. He then went into the kitchen and grabbed a piece of chocolate cake from out of the fridge before returning to the living room and dropped down on the couch and flipped the tv on, unaware that someone was about to come into his life and give him one hell of an offer.
Outside of the apartment building, Whitley just pulled up in her car and looked over to the building where her first possible recruit was supposed to be. She couldn't help but be kind nervous, she did she that he was rather handsome from the photos Tony had shown, and well... she never had the best track record with talking to fairly handsome men. "Smack out of it, Cravens," she muttered to herself, "I'm not asking him out, I'm just recruiting him to a top-secret hit squad that's meant to safeguard the Earth better than the Justice League could ever accomplish, what could go wrong?"
She knew quite a bit could, but she knew she was capable of making sure it didn't come to that. She wasn't her brother, who wanted to feel a Kryptonian's strength firsthand. Sure, he could take it, but she couldn't help but think her brother had a testosterone problem, but yet again... he is part wolf.
Whitley then took a deep breath before exiting the car and heading for the inside of the building, unaware that the same armored individual who bailed Ash from a fight against Wonder Woman was watching from the roof with a curious expression from under the helm. "Why are one of the wolves here?" he said to himself from under his helmet.
It didn't take long for Whitley to make her way to the apartment in which her first recruit was in. She took one whiff of the air to make sure he was the only one inside of the room before she proceeded to knock on the door. As she waited, she heard an annoyed groan as someone got up from possibly sitting down, and a few seconds later, the door opened and one Ash Ketchum was looking right at her, and that's when Whitley's brain went mute. The photos didn't do him justice, sure he was no supermodel, but he wasn't that far from it.
Ash was rather surprised to see a rather attractive girl standing at his doorway, but due to the fact she wasn't speaking, he could only assume he needed to take initiative. "Uh, may I help you?" he asked awkwardly as he was rather unsure why she was here.
It seemed to knock the sense back into her as she then blushed in embarrassment before speaking; "Uh yeah, I'm here to speak with Ash Ketchum."
"That'll be me," he said as he raised an eyebrow.
Whitley nodded, inwardly getting on herself by stating the obvious. "Alright, well, is it alright if we speak about this inside, it's a rather classified subject."
The shapeshifter didn't seem convinced, "Why does it need to be private?"
The female lycanthrope then looked down at his right arm, and Ash followed her line of sight and saw she was looking at the Poketrix. "It's just a regular stopwatch," he said casually.
"One that makes you the target of the Justice League," she retorted.
Ash glared at her before stating; "Have a good evening." He then tried to close the door, but Whitley just held her hand out and held it open, and no matter how much strength he put in, the door didn't budge.
Seeing as this wasn't going in the way she was hoping, Whitley decided to try a different tactic, if she didn't want this to end in a fight.
"Look, you're not the only one that does things differently from the League," Whitley said with a straight face as Ash noticed ice forming around her arms and her eyes changing from human to wolf, and then back to human, just as the ice disappeared from her arms.
Ash, whose glare then turned into a surprised look, and then a frown, finally spoke; "The Beast of St. Louis."
"Prefer Icewolf," she said with a smirk before adding; "New York's Shapeshifter."
The Wielder of the Poketrix grinned at that before correcting her; "Poke-X," he told her before he opened the door fully before motioning her in. When she entered, he looked out to make sure no one was watching before he closed the door. He then turned around and looked at her before crossing his arms. "So what's the vigilante of St. Louis want with me?"
"Well, before I say that, you can call me Whitley," she said and then added up with his confused expression, "I know your name, so you might as well know mine."
"Fair enough," Ash said with a nod before asking again; "Why are you in New York?"
Whitley shrugged before stating; "A recruitment drive."
"What do you mean?"
The Wolf of Ice sighed; "I saw you apprehend those criminals earlier, and what happens? Wonder Woman tries to arrest you and a squadron of police aim their guns your way. You see, I'm helping recruit for a team that could rival the Justice League, but instead of sparing the criminals beyond redemption, we simply remove them from the table. I'm assigned to attempt to recruit you and Night Watcher, along with two others that are frequently spotted around New York, but as of this time, you were the easiest to get in contact with first. So, Ash Ketchum, what do you think about becoming a part of something bigger?" She crossed her arms as she waited for a response.
For his part, Ash was surprised, he had just wondered if there were others out there like him and Night Watcher. Sure there was the assassin down in Boston, and the Beast of St. Louis, who was now standing right in front of him, and hell there was Iron Man and Venom, but he didn't expect to be recruited for a team that was going to be full of them. He then asked her; "Who's all on this team right now?"
"Me, Iron Man, and the Stormwolf," Whitley responded.
Ash looked at her in surprise. "The Stormwolf is real!? Dammit! Now I owe Raph money," he muttered the last part, but Whitley heard him but chose not to speak upon it. Ash then realized something as he then looked towards Whitley; "Wait, you said you were looking to recruit both me and Night Watcher?"
"Yeah," Whitley responded with a nod. "Why, have issues with him?"
That got the raven-haired man to shake his head, "No, actually, I like to think of him as a friend. It's just, he has... he has rather a rough history."
"A lot of us do," Whitley said with a sigh, "it seems to be a trend in the vigilante community." She then flopped down on the couch as she saw what was on the news. "They seem to..."
"Yeah," Ash said as he then turned the tv off, "they fear me. You can blame the Justice League for that. I've faced off with Batman, The Flash, and Wonder Woman over the past few years. Those 'heroes' allow thugs to run these streets and target those who try and catch them like they aren't also breaking the law every time they put those colorful suits on." He then plopped down on the couch before asking; "have they ever tried hunting you?"
"They've tried," Whitley admitted, "but they ran into a brick wall."
"Brick wall?"
"My brother," Whitley smirked, "Stormwolf doesn't mess around when it comes to me."
That got a surprised expression from Ash; "Your brother is Stormwolf?" When she nodded he leaned his head back and whistled, impressed; "Must be one hell of a brother, huh?"
"You don't know the half of it," Whitley said with a fond smile before she got back to business; "So, what do you say? Are you in?"
Ash was silent for a few moments. He knew a large part of him wanted to say yes, but he also knew the implications meant if he wasn't in New York as often as he is now, and also the fact of his mother... he needed some answers. "How often will I be away from New York?"
"It'll only be for missions, which shouldn't be longer than twelve hours apiece in all honesty," Whitley answered.
That got a nod of acknowledgment before he asked the one real question; "Will this include protection of loved ones? My mom's pretty much all I have left, and I'll be damned if I let anything happen to her."
Whitley turned her head over towards him and spoke honestly; "Trust me, if you join, your mother will probably be one of the most well-protected people on Earth. No matter who tries to get a hold of her."
Her answer got a relieved sigh out of Ash before he spoke again; "I'll join if you can get Night Watcher to join," he decided before he looked to her. "Nothing against you, but I'd like to have someone I trust on this team so I know I'm not being played."
"You think I'd try and trick you?" The lycanthrope asked in amusement, "If I was gonna do something, I wouldn't have even knocked on the door."
As much as he hated to admit, she had a point. She honestly probably could have burst through that door on her own if she was just gonna kill him. Still... "That's fair, but still, he's taught me most of what I know." It was then when he felt his phone vibrate in his pocket and he pulled it out, his eyes widening when he read the text he received. "And speak of the devil..."
"I take it that's Night Watcher," Whitley assumed.
Ash nodded; "He wants to meet you," he told her, surprising her, "We're meeting him in Brooklyn, apparently he wants to see if you're trustworthy enough."
"How did he know I was here?" Whitley thought, surprised.
"He used to be a ninja before he became the Watcher," Ash told her with a knowing grin, "he probably saw you walk in and then eavesdropped on us from the fire escape."
Whitley nodded in acknowledgment as she then looked to Ash; "What time are we meeting him?"
"I suggest we go right now," Ash told her, "knowing him, he does not like waiting."
That's when Whitley pulled out her car keys and went for the door; "I'll drive, you tell me where I'm going," she said before she smirked at the last thing she was gonna say; "Oh... and I hope you don't mind riding in a Camaro."
Ash looked up in surprise as he then slipped his jacket, which he had taken off when he arrived home, back on as he followed the redhead out the door. "You have a Camaro?"
Now in Whitley's car, the two were in absolute silence as Whitley was following the directions that Ash told her to take. It has been roughly a few minutes when Whitley decided to ask Ash a question just to break the silence. If they were going to be teammates, then they might as well get used to talking to each other.
"Have any music in mind?" Whitley asks the shapeshifter.
Ash just shook his no. "Not really. Just whatever pop music is on."
Whitley nodded as she turns the radio on. Soon as it turns on, all of the sudden, the radio seemed to adjust itself and begins to play an a song that had Whitley blushing slightly at the meaning it represented while Ash had a bit of a confused expression, wondering why she was blushing;
Whatcha gonna do with all that junk
All that junk inside your trunk
I'ma get get get get you drunk
Get you love drunk off my hump
My hump, my hump, my hump, my hump, my hump
My hump, my hump, my hump, my lovely little lumps
Soon as the two hear that, Whitley, who started blushing madly in embarrassment, quickly tried to change the station. Meanwhile, Ash begins to blush more when he understands what the song is talking about, (AN: No matter what universe he's in, our boy Ash still needs to be a bit clueless, am I right?). Whitley begins to struggle for a little bit as she tries to turn the dial on the dash before it changes to a different song. Unfortunately for her, this song was not that a good one either, as it seemed to be worse than the last one;
Can you blow my whistle baby
Whistle baby, let me know
Girl, I'm gonna show you how to do it
And we start real slow
You just put your lips together
And you come real close
Can you blow my whistle, baby
Whistle, baby, here we go
After another struggle with turning the dial, Whitley finally managed to turn the radio off. She begins to sigh in relief as the screen changed back to the GPS map, knowing that she shouldn't play anything right now. She was afraid to play country music as well, seeing as some of those songs have hidden meanings as well... and that she'd think Ash wouldn't like it.
"That was weird," Ash commented after a minute of awkward silence.
"Yeah, it never did that before," Whitley replied in confusion. This was her brother's first car, and he had always made sure to tune it up whenever it started acting up. So why was it acting like this now? "Let's just stick to normal conversations."
"Yeah," Ash said with an awkward smile. "So tell me about yourself."
The young ice-wielding lycanthrope smirked as she thought of where to start, and she quickly knew just when and where. "Well... to get to know me, we have to start with my parents, the original Stormwolf and the Icefox..."
20 minutes later
Brooklyn, NY
After almost half an hour of conversation and Whitley giving a not too deep version of her origin story, she was now finally pulling into the shipping yard that Ash pointed out to her. The very place they were to meet with the Night Watcher. She could only hope that he was in a joining mood.
"Turn here," Ash told her as they were now facing a large fence that showed that the shipping yard was both closed and off-limits for normal people. Good thing they both were far from normal.
"Ooh, a shipment yard. What a great place for a meet and greet," Whitley told him sarcastically as she parked her car beside the fence and the two got out. Considering the streets were practically empty in this part of town and there isn't much activity, she doubts anyone would try and steal her car, even the gangs that work around Brooklyn give this area a wide birth according to Ash.
Ash looked at the yard and kicked the fence a little before looking at Whitley with a deadpanned stare; "Haha, you are so hilarious," he said with a blank look.
"I try," she told him before rubbing her hands together mischievously, "So how do we get in?" Whitley asks before she gets into excitement. "Oh, is there some kind of secret passage that takes us underground to his base?"
Ash just gave her a look that reads no on her theories. Was she really expecting Raph to just open the base up for a complete stranger? Hell, it took two years of training with him for Raph to open up, and even then it was a following six months before he was allowed into his base of operations. The guy was very enclosed to himself, but to be fair to him, he's hardened and has a past that the shapeshifter could relate to. "Uh... we go over the fence, we go over to where those containers are... and we meet him."
"Aww," Whitley said with disappointment, that Ash will admit, but never out loud (gotta keep the clueless idiot persona alive somehow), that he found adorable as it reminded him of a sad puppy.
Ash was going to say something, but before he could, he felt his phone vibrate, and when he pulled it out, he knew immediately who it was. After reading the message, he groaned at what it said. Whitley, being curious peeked over his shoulder and saw exactly what Night Watcher had sent Ash.
'Stop flirting and get over here,' the message read, making Whitley raise an eyebrow. Were they really flirting?
"So he's here?" she asked as she got ready to jump over the fence.
Ash nodded as he put his phone away; "Yeah, and we better not keep him waiting."
"No problem. Race ya!" Whitley called out as she then leaped over the fence.
"Hey wait-" But before Ash can protest, she had already taken off. "Damn, that girl is fast, and now I'm talking to myself. Still doing...screw it."
With that statement, Ash transforms in a flash of light blue and gray, turning him into a reptilian, bipedal Pokémon. His neck is somewhat long, and it has two crests on its head. He now has semicircular, yellow eyes with red rims, with the lower jaw and a belt-like band across his waist also red. Along his back, it has two lines running down the middle and two rows of yellow nodules that are described as seeds. His tail is shaped similar to that of a palm tree's branch, and both of his long arms have two sharp, elongated leaves and three claws.
On his chest was the symbol of the Poketrix.
This was Sceptile, one of Ash's aces in close-range fighting and combatting speedy opponents that are not speedsters. He has a few forms for those, but for Sceptile, it would be a rather difficult fight... he had personal experience after all. With a lightning-quick leap, Sceptile was on the other side and was off like a bullet, nearly catching up with Whitley, who in her human side, wasn't as fast as her more, wolf-like side. Still, right as he was about to pass her, they leaped over the wall of containment units and landed on the other side... with Whitley landing on the ground first.
"I win," Whitley said with a smug on her face, just as Ash turned back to normal with his arms crossed.
"Because you had a head start." Ash said, bursting Whitley's bubble, "if I had known and we started at the same time, I would have left you in the dust, wolf girl."
Whiley just found that funny and laugh. "If I was the wolf, you would never touch me, monster boy," she shot back, and before Ash could retort, an older voice spoke up, and it sounded like he was more annoyed than anything else.
"You two done flirting?" the voice of the Night Watcher asked as he looked at the two from his position on the container above them. It was surprising to see his younger friend get along with this girl as quickly as he has. It was something of interest, that's for sure. Normally, the teen would be more secluded and when girls have tried to flirt with him, he would do the most Mikey thing he'd ever seen and act totally oblivious to it. Yet it may seem Ash is the one who's interested? Who knows... "You're late by the way, knucklehead."
"Good to see you too, shellhead." Ash replied sarcastically as he leaned against the opposing container.
"So this is the Beast of St. Louis?" Night Watcher asked as he dropped down from the container he stood on and looked directly at Whitley as if he was analyzing her.
Seeing Night Watcher up close did confirm her suspicion that he was most definitely not human. A very large one that is quite buff as he was still in his uniform. He was 6'7'' in height and the armor was jet black. The helmet had a pointed front to it and a black visor that was tinted, along with two flashlights on the side of them. The rest of the armor had gear that included several types of explosives and smoke bombs, and connected to what appeared to be a shell was a rather long combat chain. Sais was also on his person as they were sheathed on the Night Watcher's hips.
Before Whitley could say anything, Ash decided to speak once more in a sarcastic manner. "No, this is just some random girl I picked up just to impress her that I know New York's first vigilante."
Night Watcher just shifted his helmet towards his protege, and, from under the helmet, gave him a deadpanned look. "Ash, you have never been funny. Never. The only time I ever found you remotely funny was when you tried to attack me with Greninja the first night we met and I out ninja'd the Ninja Pokemon."
Whitley decided to join her two cents just for fun, though she was trying to laugh at what the armored vigilante had said. "I thought it was funny."
"See, my jokes are good," Ash replied while smirking at his older friend.
"She thinks you're hilarious for reasons I don't understand." Night Watcher said with annoyance, before turning to Whitley. "Though that's not the reason I asked to meet with you, 'Icewolf'... so why exactly do you want both me and my sidekick over there in this squadron of yours?"
"Oh hell no! You did not just call me a sidekick!?" Ash said with a vein-popping from his forehead. "I could literally turn into something that could crush or melt you without having to touch you right here, right-"
Night Watcher silenced him with a single look, and Ash saw the green eyes in the lenses giving him a glare that said simply; Continue with that line of thinking and I'll show you who's boss. Ash knew to shut up after that, he wouldn't be able to turn into anything fast enough before Raph had him on the ground and unconscious.
Now with that out of the way, the armored vigilante of New York turned his attention back to Whitley, who now tensed under his gaze. "Whitley Cravens, I am a very busy individual and despite how much he annoys me, I take the safety of not only my city, but that idiot very seriously..." and then, much to Whitley's surprise, he removed the helmet, revealing the face of a humanoid turtle with a scar over his right eye that was mostly covered by a torn red bandanna that went over the topside of his head. "So look me in the eyes, and tell me why you want me and Ash on this team.
"Well..." Whitley said in a very nervous tone, "my brother and Iron Man want to make a team that will truly safeguard the Earth in ways that the Justice League are failing at, and they want this team to not be seen as heroes, but as protectors who will keep the world safe by any means necessary. They want you because you are the first."
The Night Watcher's green eyes lessened in narrowing and turned into a look of curiosity. "The first what?"
"The first vigilante," Whitley answered. "There had been reports of what was described as ninjas in New York even before Batman showed up in Gotham and Green Arrow in Star City. Then two years later, reports of you started showing up, and the ninja reports vanished, but Iron Man made one connection between you and the ninjas that made it clear."
"And what would that be," Night Watcher said, his eyes narrowing again. Ash remained quiet, surprised that Whitley knew so much, and getting ready to step in in case she crossed a line on accident. He knew of Raph's past, and he knew it was a very very touchy subject.
Whitley then looked down and Watcher caught her eyes on the weapons that he made famous during his entire vigilante career... his Sais.
For a moment he was quiet, and Ash tensed at that, unsure what the adult mutated reptile would do, but before any moves were made, Raph smirked as he then looked up at her and then back to Ash; "It always seems like it's redheads that find out about us vigilantes in New York. She reminds me a bit of April before she and Casey left that is."
Ash, who had met the two mentioned briefly, actually understood what Raph met when he said that and couldn't help but grin at that; "So are you going to consider it?"
Raph shrugged before answering; "A team with two werewolves and a guy in an armored suit... along with a shapeshifter and the longest running vigilante. I will put that into consideration," he then pulled a device out of his suit and handed it to Whitley. "I will contact you once my decisions have been made."
Whitley gave him a small smile before taking the device, which was phone-like, but resembled a turtle shell. "By the way, who exactly are you? I don't wanna have to call you Watcher or Night Watcher every time I see you."
The mutated turtle was silent for a moment before he gave his answer. "My name is Raphael, but like the kid here, you can just call me Raph."
Whitley smiled at them, seeing as tonight was a better success than she had thought it would be. Before she could say anything else though, she felt her phone go off and she checked it and saw it was from Tony, with it saying 'IMPORTANT' in big letters. That was concerning. "Aas much as I'd like to stand here and talk with you guys, I'm kinda needed elsewhere at the moment," she said before looking to Ash, "You're okay flying back?"
"Yeah, It's not like I don't do that on a day-to-day basis," he told her with sarcasm before smiling at her, "go kick some ass, wolf girl."
Whitley gave him a genuine smile for that before telling him, "It was nice meeting you monster boy." She then turned to Raph and took something out of her pocket and handed it to him. "This is the basic knowledge on what we're calling the Renegade Project, in it are also coordinates on where to meet for pick-up if you decide to join."
"You and Stark seemed to have thought this through, have you?" Raph said surprising Whitley on knowing who Tony was; "Also, tell your brother next time he comes into my city, to wipe out all the rogue vampires."
Whitley had to suppress a laugh at that one. "I'll be sure to tell him that... Raph. See you Ash," and with that, she started jogging away at normal speed, and that gave Raph the chance to examine his friend, who he noticed was watching a certain area.
"Eyes up Ash," Raph said, snapping him out of his trance. "I've seen her brother in action, and I doubt he'd appreciate that."
"And how would you know that?" Ash asked.
Raph rolled his eyes in amusement; "It's not like we tell each other everything, Ash." He then examined the object he was given, a flash drive that had a wild-looking 'R' on it. It made him wonder if it was a good idea on joining a team. It was his attitude that lead to what happened to his brothers and father, but yet again, he has learned from those mistakes, Ash was a perfect example of that. Yet that was one person... this was a full-blown team. Was he ready?
It was then when a twenty was shoved in his face, and Raph looked over to Ash with a raised eyebrow; "For?"
"The bet over if Stormwolf existed," Ash said with a sigh, "Considering we just met his sister, I think it's clear you won."
Raph chuckled as he grabbed the money; "You're goddam right on that."
Before either could say anything, Raph's helmet went off and he got serious; "They're playing our song."
Ash smirked as the Poketrix activated; "Then let's go kick some ass."
The mutant turtle smirked at that as he then proceeded to place his helmet back over his head.
Whitley had just returned to her car, and once she had entered it, checked the message on her phone, and when she looked at it her eyes narrowed with killer intent.
'Ghost Rider and Wolverine's daughter spotted in Maine... The Facility is targeting young Metas, and they're using their brand of super soldiers. They may need the Wolf on this one ~ Tony'
Whitley's eyes turned into slits. There were few things that pissed her off, and the one thing was when bad guys targeted children. Her eyes then shifted from human to wolf-like as it started getting a bit colder in the car... much to the car's dislike.
Wait, what?
What is this?! A real chapter here?!
THAT'S RIGHT EVERYONE, I'M FINALLY BACK!
I'm truly sorry everyone that it has been months since I have made any new chapters. And I've totally have a good reason for it...I was too busy with work in April and May. Then I had to quit my job, why you may ask. It is because my mom decided to move to another city. So I was busy between June and July moving stuff. And we are still doing it now, but it has been a slow process lately.
Luckily we got the important things in the new house first, but we still have stuff to either move with us or give away. And in late July...I sadly had to take time to myself to grieve over my dad's second year of being dead. God rest his soul as he always tries his best to be a good father to me and my sister. It's very hard for people when they lose a loved one. it doesn't matter if they are related by blood or not. Family is family, no matter who they are.
As you guys may notice that Stormwolf150 doesn't have this story on his page anymore. Well, that's because he didn't want to post it on his anymore, as I will be the one to write it. But don't be too sad as he will be editing the chapters I write to make them sound better. Just like he did with this, so everyone go over there and tell him I sent you. Definitely check out his stories if you haven't read any, they are amazing.
I was originally going to post Earth's Mightiest Heroes as well, but for six months I had no idea that chapter three was also posted on chapter two. Meaning that the original chapter two is gone as there are two chapter three's posted right now and I have to rewrite it. Seriously, I'm very surprised that no one told me about it sooner. I was very shocked to find this out. But I will write it as soon as I can as it will be posted either tonight or tomorrow.
As for the next chapter of Renegade Justice, it will most likely be out either Monday or Tuesday. Maybe even Sunday if I am lucky to get time to myself. I am truly sorry once more for leaving you guys for so long. It was never my attention to do so. But anyways make sure to favorite and review so you guys can be in the next chapter as well like the people up top. Also, make sure to read my other stories as well as I would gladly appreciate it. See you all next time!
