This was inspired by Kaguya the best Movie Villian! I love everything about her...
"What is this, Grandpa?" Mewt asked, excited as he pulled out an old book from the shelf. "It's so old looking, what could it be?"
Grandpa Higarashi smiled at him. "Mewt, my boy, I have no idea. There are so many relics in our shrine, some haven't been looked at in ages. Let me see..." and so Mewt did just that, showing him the book in question. "Ahh... that book is nearly two hundred years old, created and bound with spells of old! My great, great grandfather took it from a witch himself... or was it a priestess? I cannot remember, the point is that it is very old and it contains great power."
Laughing, Mewt opened the book and frowned. "These kanji, they are warped and old... it will take some time to decipher them..."
"Likely, but that is the joy isn't it?" Grandpa started, excited. "And that is why you are here, I mean other than enjoying college. You live here and help me with the shrine and we feed and house you."
"I love helping you with the shrine to be honest. I love the history of it all, the mystery of whatever we find... the stories, the legends, the myths!"
"I wish Kagome felt the same way, my boy... I really do..." The man sighed, and Mewt knew why. Kagome, his granddaughter, had all but thrown away the historic gift her grandfather had given her for her birthday. It had been very kind, if sort of thoughtless of him. The man cherished history, so there was a lot of love behind the gift. That she would so happily get rid of her gift really hurt the man...
"She's young, she'll get over it I am sure."
"One day, but not soon enough... and you are the same age she is!"
Laughing, Mewt nodded. "I am a special boy, I mean how fifteen-year-olds get to college this early? Not many... now, I think I have a project for when I start school." The school would start in a year. The Higarashi's had adopted him, taking him in when he needed it the most about two months prior. He loved the entire shrine, even if Kagome was obnoxious at times. Sota was sweet, Mrs. Higarashi was a doll and Grandpa was funny. They were the most loving family he had ever met and it was a joy to be around them all. "Grandpa, I think I am going to work on translating the book, is that okay?"
"Not a problem, my bo-"
"GRANDPA!" Sota barreled into the storage room, terrified and shaking. "Something pulled Kagome down the well!"
Without hesitating, and book in hand for,... some reason, Mewt shot out of the storage room and towards the well. He entered it's shed and noticed the well was firmly open, an odd smell in the air. Rushing towards the well, he looked down it...
And then everything went wonky.
This book exploded in purple light, warm surging through him making him so faint he fell down the well itself... only, instead of falling fast, he seemed to float through what looked like space, until he gently landed back on solid ground. Shaking, he looked at the book and gaped. "The hell?" he whispered in English. "What happened?" Shaking, he gripped the book tighter, afraid it would blast him once more.
Looking up, he gaped. "I'm outside... how?" Terrified, he climbed up and saw that he was no longer in the shed but a massive field... he was so confused. "Wait, is that the Sacred Tree... "Said tree was in the middle of a forest, but the tree was so familiar he could ignore that. "I guess that is my way home, but how the heck did I... is that magic? Grandpa is always insisting magic and all that is real, could he be right?" Sprinting, he made his way towards the tree, into the forest... where he saw dozens of men tying Kagome up. "The hell are you doing?" The men were armed, he quickly realized. " What are you doing to her!"
They turned to him, pointing bows and spears at him. "Another outsider... take him!"
And so, not wanting to be gored, he too was bound and carried away with Kagome. He moved his hand towards his butt, where he had pocket knife. He'd escaped if he need to and he would do anything he needed to protect himself... and Kagome. The Higarashis had become family, he would not let them down.
Leaning in, he whispered to Kagome. "Are you okay?"
She nodded but before she could say a word, a spear was set between them. "NO SPEAKING!"
Growling, he did as they said until they reached a quaint village stuck in the middle ages... and it was here that Mewt realize that there was a bigger chance of magic being involved than he realized...
