Yawning in the process, Hikari stepped out from her room before the rumble of her stomach coaxed her over the fridge as she pulled a carton of milk followed by a box of cereal in the cabinet.
She still wasn't used to having food at her disposal any time of the day, the girl mainly surviving off the scraps and leftovers that she happened to find.
If she was lucky, Hikari would be able to be extra fancy and get something at the convenience store so having food any time she wanted was still such a luxurious feeling.
So much so, that her smile didn't even drop when Hawks moved past her a moment later. "Good morning Hika-chan. Did you sleep well?"
Recalling back to the pleads and apologies that filled her ears last night from that low life thug only made the girl laugh to herself before pouring the milk into her drink. Serves him right for making her ask again.
"Yes, I would say so. What about you Kei-chan?"
Hikari then watched as he placed two fingers up to his head before muttering back half heartedly. "Of course. How can I sleep poorly when I have such a cute little sister across the hall that makes my day a little brighter?"
His words almost made her want to vomit the non existent breakfast she was making before noticing the empty bottle of alcohol in the trash next to her. He was such a liar and it was so plainly obvious to tell.
And it wasn't like she cared or anything but she supposed she was just curious, turning her head towards the empty bottle silently. I could care less what you do Kei but you are starting to look like our dear old dad these days.
"Do you always drink like that? I couldn't help but notice the bottle."
Almost immediately, Hawks eyes hallowed with newfound shame as his sister clearly saw the clouded over look of pure anxiety in his eyes, the one that was so honest, the one that he always tried to hide from her.
"Ah, not really. Things have just been really stressful lately."
Hikari's ears perked up at that. No, not because she actually felt bad for her commission simping, hero chasing brother, cause screw that.
But rather because this was the perfect opportunity to bat her pretty little eyes and make him spill something about his mission.
Pushing herself closer, the girl purposely saddened her eyes before turning her head innocently, recalling Hawks' precious words and throwing them back at him to seem sympathetic.
"You know, just like me, you're not alone anymore Kei-chan, you can tell me what's bothering you."
And oh god did her voice sound so weak and pathetic, so much so that Hikari had to twist her lips together in order not to crack her perfectly fake tone.
Come on Kei, tell me what you're up to so I can leave.
She watched his reactions, anything that would give her the slightest hint or clue to what he was working on, the girl catching his surprised expression before leaning forward to hang on his every word.
And for Hawks, the minute he heard those words the first thing he wanted to do was cry and tell his little sister everything that was burdening him the last couple months. She seemed so warm, so comforting and the boy desperately wished to just fall apart right then and there.
But then reality slammed into him a second later, knowing fully well that Hikari would look at him differently after such things, that she would call him a monster.
"I wish I could Hikari but this mission, it's really important."
Resisting the urge to frown, his sister replied back sweetly. "But Kei-chan you're my big brother right? You shouldn't hide anything that makes you sad. It's okay, I'll understand.."
Already feeling the bile work it's way to her throat, the girl stopped, hoping it would be enough for her dear hero delusion filled brother to cave.
And she could see it, his eyes crumbling down as his perky fake facade started to crack just slightly, features twitching at every word.
"Of course I'm your big brother, and because of that I want to protect you. I have to protect you. Trust me Hikari, once you know what I've done, what I'm doing, you won't want to be my sister anymore.'
Closing her eyes for a moment, his sister then suppressed a bitter laugh before thinking about the irony in his words.
I don't want to be your sister anyways you idiot. If I could cut all my attachments to you I would've done so years ago. Looks like we both can't get what we want, right?
But the words barely reached her tongue before Hikari took another step closer, her voice coming out even more fragile. "It doesn't matter what you've done, you'll always be my brother and I lo…"
As she tried to say "love" though, an immediate hint of nausea crept into her lips before forgetting the idea all together. There was no way she could say that word, not when she felt empty for the bird boy in front of her.
Coughing to cover up the horrible word, Hikari replied back smoothly. "I look up to you, and if there is something that is bothering you, I want to know what it is. I lost you for so long Kei-chan, wishing to come back to you. I could never be disappointed with you."
Well, one of those was a plain lie but let's roll with it I suppose. Pity points for me I guess. Let's see if this works, let's see if you fall apart at the "poor little sister" act. you love so much.
Hikari then forced her voice to grow raspy like she was almost going to cry before muttering back dejectedly. "Is it wrong that I just want you to trust me?"
She was so sure that little crybaby Hikari would cause Hawks enough heartbreak to fall apart, to finally cave like she was hoping. It had to work, or else she'd be stuck in this hell for far too long.
Although wasn't she surprised when Hawks reached forward, bringing his sister into his arms before muttering. "Thank you Hikari. When there is something I need to talk about, you'll be the first to know."
Widening her eyes at the total rejection, the girl stood there dumbfounded as her idiot brother hugged his sister sorrowfully, fully shutting her down from any advances of breaking for information.
He was acting like everything was fine, he was acting like he wasn't tormented to the point of drinking, he was acting like he wasn't in contact with Dabi.
And all of it pissed her off.
Keigo, you stupid freezer baked microwavable meal, I even pulled out crybaby Hikari and you still want to be closed off like this?! Dabi was right, you are going to be a pain in my ass.
But unknown for Hawks, the man was just utterly destroyed by her words, knowing that he couldn't in fact tell her anything about the case. Not if he wanted her safe, not if he wanted to keep his job at the hero commission.
And it hurt lying to his sister but what could he do, his hands were tied.
Knowing it was a lost cause, Hikari sighed to herself before pulling away from her idiot brother and picking up the bowl of cereal she had previously discarded with a small nod.
Then to make matters worse, Hawks decided to add. "Thanks sis. It feels nice that someone cares about me. I haven't had that in awhile.."
Stopping immediately, Hikari couldn't help but take in his words before clutching her hand that was placed on the side of the bowl in a thousand unsaid emotions.
Why would he even say that, why would he twist the knife in even further then it had been? How cruel can he be? He needed to stop it, to stop giving her such pointless hope.
Kei, I cared about you for years but you never noticed. You never once noticed. Don't you dare say that to me, don't you dare tell me that. It's not that you haven't had it in while, you just never noticed, you never cared to actually see who was waiting for you.
Gritting her teeth so incredibly hard, Hikari then closed her eyes before willing these lingering feelings away. That's right, they were just lingering feelings, something she needed to forget.
But even so, she couldn't help but stutter out a reply that held multiple meanings.
"You know I'm always here."
And that was so painfully true because Hikari was always there, right under his nose, right where he never cared to look. And that's what hurt the most, what continued to hurt even when she tried to ignore it.
Moving towards the sofa, the girl then tried to focus on her food when all of a sudden, a sharp shiver worked its way up her spine, Hikari squeaking out in surprise before the bowl that she was carrying dropped out of her hands and onto the floor.
She saw the milk begin to stain the carpet before Hawks hurried over with concern, his feathers already picking the object off the floor and getting a rag. "Hikari, are you okay? What happened?!"
Although before she could even process it, another cold chill filled her entire body, almost like someone was running their hands up her back slow and seductive before the girl gasped at the sensation, covering her mouth a second later.
What the hell..
Managing a response, the girl stuttered back. "Y-Yeah, it's just cold."
Hawks turned his head in curiosity before making his way to the windows in order to shut them before the girl felt her feathers internally twitch with some kind of sensation.
Turning around, Hikari pushed her hand even closer to her lips before stifling a groan of unexpected pleasure as the girl pressed her other hand onto the kitchen counter to stop the feeling.
Now it felt like someone's hot breath was breathing onto her, covering her entirely with their scent as Hikari's face immediately started to turn red from embarrassment. Okay, what the fuck was happening?!
Although she soon got her answer as a slow, smooth voice worked its way into her ears, his tone causing another unexpected shiver with how close he was.
Miss me, Princess? I bet you do.
Twisting her brow in pure annoyance, Hikari then immediately connected the dots before groaning to herself as the small pin pricks of his fingers still lingered on her mind.
Oh course, of course it was fucking Dabi..
She soon regretted ever giving him that feather as his voice coaxed her once more, the girl feeling his fingers run up the object he had in his possession with a smirk in his voice.
I wonder how this feels? I wish I could see you all jumpy like last night but I think I can picture it. You always did love it when I touched your wings, how sensitive they were.
Immediately turning red, Hikari then aggressively pulled out her phone before texting the man without a second later, her fingers like fire on the buttons.
Hey, you better cut this shit out before I come over there and castrate you myself.
Yet she just barely pressed send before she felt Hawks' hand reach up to her forehead, his face morphed into concern. "What's going on with you Hika-chan? You don't seem like you have a fever but you look really pale."
Yeah she looked pale, but it was for other reasons, the girl shaking her head to dissipate the feeling of his hands on her body. "I-I'm okay. I just don't think I've had enough water today. I'll get on that.."
Immediately turning towards the fridge, the girl opened the surface before hearing Dabi once more, his voice slightly challenging. Of course he would be enjoying her torture like this.
Castrate me? I can't say that's something I desire Princess. Besides, I feel like I wouldn't be the only one that would regret that decision. Don't you think?
Aggressively taking the water off the shelve, Hikari scoffed externally before pouring herself a glass and drinking it down a second later. That little shit thinks he can always say what he wants, doesn't he? Unbelievable..
Lucky for her though, Hawks was in his own thoughts during her angry slip, only thinking about his next conversation. "Hey so, I was wondering if I could bring something up with ya?"
Happy to not think about the horny stable man on the other side of her feather, Hikari looked up at her brother. "What is it?"
She then watched him shove his hands in his pockets before making his way up to her a moment later. "Right so, I think it would be good for ya to have some training. You know, just in case you run into trouble and I can't get there right away."
The idea was almost laughable to her, Hikari recalled her previous night filled with plenty of trouble.
If only her brother knew what kind of deportable things she did when his back was turned, and how wrong he was to think she couldn't handle herself.
But even so, the girl had to remain dumb for the sake of her facade. "Training?"
Nodding back, Hawks then lifted up his wings in explanation. "Yeah, it won't be much cause I already said I'd protect you but I'd feel a little better with it, especially since you got lost yesterday. "
And that was true for Hawks, the very event from yesterday scaring the crap out of him. Yes she only got lost in the crowds but his sister was so weak and powerless, who knows who could take advantage of that?
He dreaded the horrible idea of Dabi finding about her also, hurting her or using her in his villainous plans and dragging her into this disgusting life he lived.
That was something Hawks could never forgive if he let happen.
Hoping to hype up the idea more, the man threw up a quick wink. "We can go to my agency and I'll show you a few things. I can show you just what makes your big brother so cool!"
Although Hikari was less than pleased with the idea, already feeling hives make their way into her skin just from the idea of having to fraternize with useless heroes all day.
It sounded like hell to her to be completely honest.
But then an opportunity couldn't help but catch into her mind. Wait, if Keigo wasn't going to tell her about his mission then that just means she'd have to find out from other sources, and his agency could be the perfect place to start.
Sure, she realized that those heroes wouldn't say anything but that didn't mean she couldn't dig her nose around some confidential files and material.
This could work, if she pulled it off well enough.
So much so that the girl gave into the foolish idea, taking whatever embarrassment would await her in order to finally get what she was looking for and leave this hell hole once and for all..
"I would love that Kei-chan."
Falling onto the floor with the heavy thud, Hikari groaned as her face became acquainted with the ground for the hundredth time since they started their training.
And on cue, her brother's annoying voice filled her mind a second later, his tone laced with so much encouragement that the girl rolled her eyes away from him.
"It's alright, you got it Hikari! You were so close this time, just step with your left foot next time."
The irony of the situation was too good as Hikari stumbled back into her feet before reading her fists in a certain and sloppy way, very much like her fragile image. "I-I'm okay."
Although to put it frank, the girl was far from okay after getting the every living daylights beaten out of her over and over again.
And the worst part was, the girl had to just let it happen.
Sure, everything in her body wanted to punch her stupid brother in the face, to show him that she wasn't some princess that needed to be rescued anymore. But unfortunately, that didn't fit the image she was going for.
No, unlucky for her, past Hikari was always such a crybaby and weak little kid which meant that she had to continue to be like that, even though it practically killed her inside.
If only you knew some of the things I do, big brother.
Seeing Hawks approach her, the girl purposely misstepped as she threw a full punch at the wrong angle and it was enough for the opening he needed to push his foot under her and trip Hikari a moment later.
And then she tumbled to the ground at attempt number one hundred and one before closing her eyes in utter humiliation.
This was so stupid, so incredibly stupid. She felt pathetic, she felt like nothing had changed from her childhood.
Running over to her, Hawks then extended his hand before giving her a look of pity, clearly thinking that she was a weak unskilled fighter. "Let's take a break. You've earned it."
His words only seemed condescending though, the girl giving a half hearted nod before making her way over to the bottle of water in the corner.
"I guess I really am no good at these things."
This caused the bird to retract before lifting his wings up in fake confidence. "Not at all! It takes a lot of time to get the hang of these things. You've been doing really great Hika-chan!"
Although even Hawks couldn't help but be kind of disappointed with her lack of talent, giving that he had knocked her down every single time. Even after he explained a part, it seemed like she would continue making the same mistakes over and over again.
That just showed him that he really needed to protect her more than ever, knowing she wouldn't stand a chance against any villain, especially Dabi.
Just then, one of his sidekicks seemed to appear before bowing a moment later. "Hawks, sorry to interrupt but we were wondering if we could have some insight on this case really quick?"
Perking his wings up, the man immediately nodded his head before turning to his sister who was catching her breath. A few minutes wouldn't hurt. "Alright Hikari, take five. I have to go check this out really quick and I'll be back, okay?"
He waited for her to nod as the hero hurried away, giving Hikari the opportunity to drop her smile before rolling her eyes towards her water bottle. I hope you take forever.
Sighing to herself, she paused when a couple footsteps entered the space before a black haired woman stopped in front of her, the girl staring her down with disgust. "So you're Hawks' new trainee?"
Ah yes, that was the story he gave wasn't it? First a fan and now a trainee, how charming. "Yes, that's me."
Almost immediately the black haired girl started laughing at the very idea. "Well I hate to break it to you little girl, but you suck. Everyone's talking about it, about how incompetent you are. Where did Hawks even find you anyways?"
It was obvious the girl was jealous, causing Hikari to resist rolling her eyes in order to keep her good girl act. "I-I don't know. He's just helping me I guess..."
Smirking back at her weak response, she then took a step closer as Hikari took one back in order to seem intimated. "Listen here, Hawks doesn't do charity so I suggest you leave before you embarrass him."
Her insults were weak at best, the blonde haired girl pretending to jump at her tone before stuttering back. "W-What? I-I'm not embarrassing him, I don't think..."
Earning the terror she wanted, the black haired girl then narrowed her eyes. "Oh, I know you are. It's so obvious you are trying to use that good girl act to get close to him, it's disgusting."
Hikari couldn't help but raise her eye at that, thinking perhaps this girl was smarter than she was letting on.
And for that, the pent up anger and spite that had been building up throughout the day started to leak through without her realizing it.
She wasn't Keigo, so she could hardly care about her act. It wasn't like her brother would believe anything she said.
Dropping her scared demeanor, the girl then casually stroll up to the woman before her amber eyes bore into her with a dark gleam. "Oh, you think so?"
Almost noticing a change in atmosphere, the black haired girl started to feel a chill down at her spine as the once sweet Hikari uttered words that made her blood boil immediately.
"Maybe you shouldn't worry about me when it's so painfully obvious that you're trying to get into Hawks' pants like a desperate little fangirl. Don't you think that's even more disgusting?"
Widening her eyes, Hikari sensed the woman raise her hand up in order to punch the girl as Hawk's sister felt her own arm move up to block the attack in order not to mess up her face.
Although just as soon as she felt her arm move, Hikari heard Hawks' voice start to enter the picture, the man turning the corner as she groaned back.
Fuck, I can't block it when he's here. Why did you have to come back now?!
So much so that Hikari had to force her arms to stay still as a fist came barreling towards her face a moment later, the girl just vaguely hearing Hawks' shouts before everything turned to black.
"Hikari!"
Groaning, the girl turned her head to the side before a large amount of pain caused Hikari to stop, her hands reaching towards her cheek a moment later. "Fuck.."
Yet she was quickly stopped when her brother's voice couldn't help but chuckle back, giving her all the reality she needed to shut up pretty quick. "Wow, I didn't know ya knew how to swear little sis. I don't know if I should be concerned or proud."
Widening her eyes, Hikari recalled the whole reason she was here before immediately forcing herself to sit up as a pounding headache caused the world to spin a moment later.
"Whoa whoa there. Don't sit up like that just yet, you might have a concussion."
Hikari forced her eyes close to stop the dizzy sensation before opening them a moment later as she finally took in the place she was in, now seeing a desk in the corner of the room overlooking a glorious city skyline. "What happened?"
This caused Hawks to frown to himself before carefully grabbing his sisters shoulders in order to steady for movements. "One of my sidekicks got a little handsy cause they were jealous but don't worry, I took care of it."
His tone had a ring of intent to it causing Hikari to realize that meant that she was probably fired. Served her right, jealous bitch. "Oh, I see..."
Watching his eyes fall, the bird then brushed a couple fingers across her black eye before replying. "I'm really sorry Hikari, I shouldn't have left you alone like that. I can't even imagine what kind of awful things she said to you."
Hikari couldn't help but smirk at that, knowing she was the one that probably would be categorized as awful. "It's okay Kei-chan. They didn't bother me."
And her brother seemed to be happy with that, letting his hand fall before the phone in his pocket rang back a moment later.
The girl couldn't help but watch the interaction curiously, her brother pulling out the object before immediately growing serious as Hikari smiled.
Ah, there he was right as scheduled.
Turning towards his sister, Hawks then ran a nervous hand through his hand before standing away from her, his eyes distant.
"I uhh have to go check on something really quick. Just stay here and rest up, alright? I'll take you for ice cream when I get back."
By his clearly anxious demeanor, Hikari immediately knew what it was for, looking around his office before nodding back. Finally, now she could do what she came here for.
"Don't worry about me brother, I'll be alright."
That seemed to be enough for the man to go, his wings lifting up before moving back to his sister and placing a light hand on her head, like he used to do when they were kids.
"I know you will. I'll see ya little sis."
The action was enough for Hikari to widen her eyes before her brother seemingly disappeared through the door as the girl placed a hand to the spot where he had silently supported her.
And God did she hate it, but the action still brought a sense of nostalgia, one she secretly longed for for years. How long has she been dreaming of that simple exact move again?
It was annoying, that feeling of longing in her throat.
Although Hikari was quick to shake it off before immediately starting her work with the time Dabi had given her, already shutting the shades, locking the door and making her way over to her brother's computer.
Then her hand traveled towards the crystal pendant on her neck, ripping the seal off a second later before her wings extended as she used the remaining feathers she had to search through his files and shelves at rapid speed.
"Alright Keigo, time to show me what you're hiding."
Feeling his footsteps echo through the abandoned warehouse, Hawks quickly spotted the purple skinned man immediately, his arms lifted out in a mocking tone, like he always seemed to do nowadays.
"Sure took you enough time to get here. What, are those shitty wings of yours not as good as you say they are?"
Already throwing up a fake smile, the hero lifted his wings up in explanation before replying calmly.
"Not at all. In fact, I think they are even better. I just really hate to brag, ya know? Don't want you feeling jealous of my amazing quirk."
This only caused Dabi to scoff though, his response short. "Trust me, I'm not jealous. The last thing I would want are those chicken wings on my back.."
Lifting his head up, the hero didn't seem too bothered though. "Not that I wouldn't love to talk about my superior quirk all day and stroke my ego some more but what did you call me here for Dabi? Did you really miss me that much?"
And it seemed strange to the bird, wondering just why the villain would choose now out of anytime to meet up. Usually the dude preferred nights so this was certainly strange. It must have been really important.
Although he didn't have long to wonder as Dabi's lips turned up into a cruel smirk a moment later, knowing fully well that whatever he was going to say was going to piss the bird off.
"I thought we promised to be honest with each other and here I find you keep secrets from me Hawks."
This caused the bird's eyes to immediately hollow. Shit, what did he know? Is my entire mission ruined?! What kind of secrets was he talking about, did I mess up somehow?! Think Keigo, think so you don't screw up these last months. What could you have missed?!
Yet when he did respond, Hawks was smooth and confident, his wings lifting up in a lazy fashion in order not to seem anxious. "What are you talking about man? I tell you everything. There's no secrets here."
And Hawks waited for a response, only for Dabi to take a step closer in pure amusement, knowing his words were bullshit.
"Oh really? And what about another shitty bird you forgot to tell me about?"
Not fully understanding, the hero replied. "What bird? What are you talking about, there's no such thing. You're going to have to be a bit more specific there.."
Yet he was quickly stopped when Dabi took another step forward, his words laced with some sort of unknowing intent.
"Alright then. Your sister. Does that ring any bells?"
And Dabi took so much pleasure in watching Hikari's brother's eyes widened at the sound of her name pouring from his lips, at the idea that the two already knew they each existed. It must have eaten the poor hero up inside and he loved every bit of it.
He wondered what kind of expression he'd make if he knew the other things as well?
All in due time he supposed...
Hawks though couldn't help to feel his heart stop at the very idea of Dabi knowing his sister already, a sheer amount of pain in his chest. He had no idea how he even knew that Hikari was real but none of that mattered.
Now she was in so much danger, everything that he had tried to keep her from seemed to be slapping him in the face. "What.."
Although Dabi spoke over him a moment later. "And don't try to say that you're an only child cause I already know you two are related. It's been very fascinating to see, "big brother" Hawks and all his glory."
Feeling his hands ball into a fist, Hawks couldn't believe his ears as the villains confirmed that he had been watching them, that he had been watching her.
"I thought we agreed against stalking.."
Dabi only pushed his lips together though, giving him something that would clearly push him over the edge just like he hoped.
"How can I when she's so easy on the eyes? You're lucky Hawks, she's pretty hot. I think you might have to introduce me sometime. I'd love to burn my name into those pretty pink cheeks of hers."
Widening his eyes, Hawks immediately felt the need to put his hands around the villain's throat, forcing him to apologize for looking at his little sister in such a disgusting manner.
He felt sick, so much so that the bird felt all of his feathers immediately sharpen at his words, dancing across his tongue like poisonous venom. Like hell will I ever let you touch my sister. You'll be dead where you stand before I let that happen.
Seeing that the hero was silent, Dabi then raised an eye before continuing plainly. "But what I'm really wondering is why you would want to keep such a pretty little bird out of our briefings?"
The villain then finished with a mocking sneer. "You know Hawks, withholding information like this doesn't look too good if you want to be in the league, like you claim. It just means I trust you even less now."
And that caused Hawks to take in his words before internally cursing. Sure, he could have gone the honest route to say that he kept his sister a secret because he was worried about her safety, but then that would put an even bigger target on her back then he had already made.
By letting her back into his life, Hawks had unknowing opened up so many dangerous things for her without even knowing it.
No, that was a lie. He already knew what would've happened if he let her stay, but the man was just too selfish to listen to it at the moment. He just loved his sister so much and was blinded by the desire of being loved again as well.
And now, Hikari was screwed because of it, because of his weakness.
So much so that the bird had to think of a plan, of a lie that would get his sister off of that villain's scent, that would make him not want to pursue her and give him no reason to attack.
Twisting his eyes up towards the villain, Hawks then loosened his stance, softening his feathers before speaking words that even disgusted himself.
"You wanna know why I haven't said anything to you about her? Well, the answer is simple, it's because she doesn't matter. I just feel obligated to take care of her cause we are related but that girl doesn't mean anything to me really."
Hawks then shrugged his shoulder before immediately feeling disgusted with himself, silently thankful that his sister hadn't heard his careless lies.
See Hikari, this is why you can't know what I'm up to. Then you'd be disgusted too.
Taking in his words, Dabi blinked in response before letting out an amused breath a moment later. "Damn, that's harsh..."
Although all the hero could recognize was that he was going along with his story, adding a bit more to sell his lies by shoving his hands in his pocket.
"Yeah well, that's just how it is. You can't pick family, am I right?"
Dabi then stared at the hero with an unreadable expression before patting his pocket twice, the feather inside of the object remaining still as he replied.
"You have no idea."
"You wanna know why I haven't said anything to you about her? Well, the answer is simple, it's because she doesn't matter. I just feel obligated to take care of her cause we are related but that girl doesn't mean anything to me really."
After hearing Hawk's voice ring through her feather, Hikari paused her search before a heavy lump of sadness made its way into her throat.
Finally, he was saying how he really felt. It was about damn time, she was starting to hope again with his candy coated lies. She supposed he was just too good at his fake sense of comfort.
Taking a shaky breath, Hikari then blinked away a couple annoying tears before settling her eyes onto his computer, the girl finally getting the password correct after rumbling through his files.
Don't cry stupid Hikari, you knew how he felt. Stop letting it hurt you already. You have things to do, Dabi's counting on you. You got rid of crybaby Hikari years ago, no one wants to see you like this.
Forcing herself to take a deep breath, the girl then eyed one file in particular under the confidential folder before a list of documents filled the screen.
It would be too much to go through each other, who knows how long Dabi can keep Kei distracted. I'll just take them all.
Using one of her feathers to bring her a flash drive she then stuck the object on the side as the file began to download onto the small little device. Too easy.
Then once it was done, Hikari took out the object before sliding it into her pocket and pulling out her phone a moment later.
Dialing a few buttons, the girl then placed the object to her ear before letting out a commanding tone, far different than the sad one that had occupied her head.
"It's Valkyrie. I'm finished. You know what to do."
After some other unimportant banter with Dabi, the hero felt his phone ring in the back of his pocket before taking the object out as the villain allowed him to answer. "Hello, this is Hawks."
Although the voice that returned was rather frantic, one of his sidekicks speaking extremely fast. "Boss, you got to get over here! The agency, there was a break in, everyone's been evacuated!"
Widening his eyes, the bird immediately felt his wings tense before thinking about the defenseless girl he left in his office, the one that couldn't fight for herself just yet. She was all alone. Shit shit shit Hikari! Oh god, Hikari please be okay, please be okay..
Quickly muttering back, the hero spoke. "I'll be right there. Make sure everyone is accounted for!"
Then he quickly turned to Dabi before lifting his wings out, not really caring about his response. "Call me when you have information. See you Dabi."
Watching him take off into the sky, the villain could only smirk before taking Hikari's feather out of his pocket and humming into the object once.
"A break in, huh? So that's how you're playing it."
Quickly making his way to the scene, Hawks surveyed everyone outside before seeing to find a familiar head of blonde hair through the crowd, the bird gasping before immediately sweeping her into a hug. "H-Hikari, thank god you're okay. I came as fast as I could..."
From the looks of it, she seemed to be pretty shaken up, the girl holding onto her arms silently. "Kei-chan I'm scared. They said someone broke in, that they took something. I ran as fast as I could..."
Hearing the way she escaped broke his heart, her brother placing a calming hand to her head before speaking back. "You did good Hika-chan. I'm so proud of you. I bet that was really scary, I'm sorry.."
Yet the girl only shook her head before reaching up to grab Hawks' hero jacket with a shaky hand. "C-Can we go home now?"
Nodding back immediately, Hawks replied. "Of course we can. Let me just talk to my sidekicks really quick and I'll get you out of here, okay?"
After she agreed, Hawks made his way up to one of his sidekicks before sighing at the building. "Was anything stolen?"
The man bowed beside him before shaking his head. "Sorry sir, it's too early to tell but it didn't seem like anything was misplaced. Although your office was pretty torn up, almost like they were looking for something. Not sure if they found it though."
And that made Hawks twist his eyes in slight concern, wondering just what the thief was looking for. "Anything else?"
Gesturing towards Hikari, the man finished. "We found her by the stairs trying to escape. It seems the girl was the only one that was in the office before the break in but after the alarms went off, she quickly left. It's a good thing too, cause that's where the robbers were headed anyways. She could've been hurt."
The hero couldn't help but let out a breath of anxiety at that though, knowing that his sister could have been caught in the crossfire of villains if she had stayed where he left her.
Nodding in response, the hero muttered. "Let me know if you find anything. I'm going to make sure she's okay. She's pretty shaken up."
The sidekick seemed to agree with that, moving away to talk to even more witnesses before Hawks sighed under his breath. That thief, they were after something particular, but what?
Although unknown to the two men, Hikari could help but smirk under her breath before patting the flash drive in her pocket once. Idiots.
Through the dark alleyway, a hooded man emerged from the darkness before bowing to the figure leaning against the wall, his voice low. "Was that satisfactory boss?"
Humming through her teeth, Hikari then stepped forward before pulling a stack of money from her pocket, counting the bills all at once. "Yeah, it will do. You remembered to cover my tracks with yours, correct?"
The man couldn't help but nod though watching her hold the stack of green. "I used my quirk and everything. That way the only tracks and fingerprints they will ever discover are mine."
That caused the girl to smile, thinking it was pretty useful to have someone like him on her side, given that she could appear like a ghost with his help.
Perfect for wanting to blame a break in on someone else.
Holding the money out to him, Hikari smirked. "Good."
The man then quickly grabbed the cash before noticing the purple and blue ring around her eye with question, the one she received at Hawks' agency.
"Did you get into a fight recently? You're not one to let anyone get a hit on you usually. You're not turning soft, are ya Val?"
Yet he quickly stopped when Hikari took a step close, her fingers gracing her pendent in silent warning. "I don't know, would you like to see?"
Gulping in response, the man quickly bowed before crying back with fear of being one of her next targets. "N-No no that won't be necessary. I'm sorry, that was inappropriate of me to ask."
It was a known fact that becoming Valkyries target was far worse than a death wish and that wasn't something the man wanted to test, knowing that he would be done for the minute she turned serious.
Although lucky for him, she only smirked before turning away. "I thought not."
Looking down at her hands, Hikari then pulled out the flash drive she had taken from Hawk's agency before smirking down with clear intent.
I got you now, big brother. You can't run away anymore.
Mannnn Hikari is such a badass, I love her. Just wait until she doesn't have to hide her badassness. Oh boy.
Also a little bit of spice for you so you know what's coming. It will get there but I gotta set up some character and story first. But yes Hikari and Dabi are very spicy.
I love writing this story. I don't know, I find it relaxing.
If you like it make sure to comment so I know because that will cause faster updates :)
