Watching as his sister entered the apartment, Hawks couldn't help but follow behind slowly in order to reevaluate everything that had happened in the span of two days.

The saddest part was that last week, the bird would've been overjoyed at the simple sight of his sister entering his apartment. That's how it was before anyways, the bird savoring every little minute of this fake reality.

But now seeing her walk into his safe save, Hawks couldn't help but feel a mix of conflict inside his throat. Sure, he should've just been happy that Hikari was actually alive, that she was standing right before him.

Yet the hero couldn't help but wonder what the cost was in order for this to be? What kinds of things did his little sister go through and what had changed her personality completely from the loving caring girl to a cruel villain before his very eyes.

A part of him was desperate to know, while the other part felt the complete opposite, wanting to be blind about absolutely everything.

Because that meant facing what he had done.

Sighing to himself, he watched as Hikari stepped inside the apartment before immediately going for his refrigerator, almost like she was starving. He even heard the girl mutter out a small. "Finally.."

As the girl quickly looked across the shelves, and as she turned her head Hawks could very clearly make out the purple and pink mark on the nape of her neck, mocking him almost entirely.

Feeling an unexpected rage enter his stomach, her brother couldn't help but clear his throat in order to get rid of some of his anger.

Forget the reasons that turned her into a villain right now, the thing he wanted to know the most was whatever the hell just happened with that stitched bastard and his sister.

Sadly, his small sound didn't earn the girl's attention, Hawks choosing to speak out about it anyways. "Soo, do you want to tell me what I just saw back there? About how you just let a literal serial murderer put his hands on you like that…."

That certainly got Hikari's attention, the girl pausing her hand from wandering the shelves before leaning back to glance towards her brother.

And the hero thought she'd seem at least seem remorseful or angry about the very clear assault he witnessed back at the league's hideout. She had to know that Dabi did those things just to piss him off, right? She had to think that was utterly disgusting.

Yet to the Hawks' disbelief, she only seemed to roll her eyes. "Oh please Hawks, grow up. It's not that serious..."

Dropping his mouth in utter disbelief, the hero felt all of his feathers twitch in anxiety. "What?! Come on, this is serious. He's a literal psychopath, he's killed people and you let him just play around with you?! You're better than that Hika-chan..!"

His sister shrugged her shoulders in response, obviously not taking any of his words to heart in the slightest before adding a bitter edge to them.

She couldn't help it. Wanting to act like the protective big brother after years of neglect? Oh please. It made her wanna laugh and barf all at once.

"What are you, my love coach? Last time I checked it was none of your business who I'm with. Besides, how would you know if I'm better than that, given you weren't around for almost my entire life."

A wave of hurt couldn't help but cross Hawks' face then, realizing that her words were the painful truth. He wasn't around for her entire life, so he really had no say in her relationships.

But the bird couldn't help it regardless. He was her brother after all, and that meant protecting her even if she didn't want it. Sure he wasn't around for years, but he was here right now, and he was going to stop this before it even started. He had to.

Feeling his wings give an irritated flap, he replied roughly. "I...I..I know you're not. It doesn't matter. The fact is that Dabi isn't good enough for you and he never will be. Open your eyes sis, I know you're smarter than this!"

Although his words did nothing for the girl as Hawks heard her scoff in response at the very textbook words he was spewing. "Wow, you almost sound like a real brother with that one. I'm touched, really."

The fact that Hikari clearly didn't believe him hurt Hawks internally. He really was trying to look out for her, and she was acting like all of his words meant nothing. Did she really believe that? Did she really think he didn't care about her hooking up with a literal psychopath?

Well, she'd be wrong about that one.

"Hika-chan please, he's not what you think he is…"

The girl only lowered her eyes at that thought, a small bitter smile on her face before shutting the refrigerator door and turning her full body towards the man.

She supposed they were going to have this conversation after all, given what her brother was blindly assuming.

"Tell me brother, what do you think my relationship with Dabi is?"

Pausing slightly, Hawks felt himself blink once before turning his head in confusion. What was she saying? It was already pretty obvious what those two were. "What does that even mean? What else could it be, you're dating, aren't you?"

Almost expecting this, Hikari then lifted her finger up to his face before practically snorting at his accusation. "It's comedic how wrong you are, in every single way.."

Still not understanding, the bird took a step closer. What was he missing, cause it seemed to him like those two were clearly involved. "But Toga called you his girlfriend, didn't she?"

Groaning at the memory, Hikari rolled her eyes once more before waving the idea away, almost like she didn't want to think of it.

She couldn't really blame the girl given that she didn't tell Toga her real name or even her villain name. Still, the term couldn't help but feel slightly bitter of her tongue.

"Ugh, don't remind me. It's not like that. That title is just something that let's me roam around far more easily. Can't have people finding out I'm actually Valkyrie, now can I? It would ruin the dark and scary brand I've built up.

Although Hikari couldn't deny that there was another motive behind the decision, knowing that she didn't want any commission agents or the president realizing who she was. That's mainly why she kept her wings a secret as well.

Yet her brother still couldn't help but be utterly in the dark about everything. Wait, if what Hikari was saying was true, it still didn't explain the way that villain and her interacted, the way they treated each other.

Because it was no secret that those two had something between them, he just couldn't point out what. They said they knew each other for a while, was it really just that? Hawks wasn't sure.

Yet that didn't quell the hatred in his stomach from the events he saw an hour ago. "B-But, if you aren't...together...if that's true then explain what I just saw you guys doing. You know Dabi only did those vile things to you because he was trying to piss me off right? He used you like a goddamn object, right in front of my face!"

He expected her eyes to light up with realization at that, to finally see what that disgusting villain was doing to her, to realize that she meant nothing to him and that she shouldn't allow those kinds of things.

However, his sister only laughed at his protective nature, causing Hawks to take another serious step forward, annoyance in his tone. "What, what are you laughing about?! This is serious. I'm trying to make you understand what's happening here. He doesn't care about you..not like you think..."

Hikari only continued to laugh though, waving all of his worries away like it was nothing before placing a hand on her hips with a heavy smirk. He really thought she was that stupid, didn't she? Of course she knew what was going on..

"What are you, five? It's called sex Hawks. It doesn't have to have feelings behind it. Both Dabi and I couldn't give two shits about each other. He uses me and I use him. That's what our relationship is, what it's always been.."

Widening his eyes at her words, Hawks felt utterly sick to their stomach. He couldn't even imagine doing those things with someone you didn't care about. "W-What? Do you even hear yourself, how messed up that is?! And you're just okay with that?!"

The girl only hummed though, nodding her head like the answer was obvious and running her hands up and down her body to make a point. "It may be messed up but that's just how it is. It's my choice, something we agreed on long ago..you wouldn't get it..."

Yet Hawks still couldn't help but be utterly disgusted by her choice. He always thought his baby sister would find a nice guy and settle down, not to have her purposely use her body for only physical pleasure.

And out of everyone to choose from, why Dabi?

She was right, he didn't get her reasonings in the slightest. They were so broken and illogical, in every single way.

"Why are you saying that like it's your only choice? Hikari, you know that's not true. Don't you want better? Don't you want to fall in love with someone and have those things actually mean something?"

And for the first time since their conversation, Hikari paused, taking in his words before her eyes softened ever so slightly. What he didn't know was that he was so incredibly wrong about that.

She had fallen in love before after all.

Shrugging her shoulders, the girl then turned around before reopening the fridge in order to hide her face as she brushed off his question. "Yeah, I tried that a long time ago and it didn't work out. Too messy."

Hawks was curious though, realizing this was one of the first times his sister had ever said anything about her past, and he knew he couldn't waste it. "What happened?"

He then watched as Hikari's hand tightened around the handle for a moment, obviously replaying some kind of memory before turning around in order to meet his eyes.

And although her words were rather crazy, Hikari didn't seem bothered by them in the slightest, almost like she found them more funny than horrifying.

"The night after I confessed to him, I found him fucking another woman."

The entire air grew extremely thick at that, Hawks taking in her words before replaying them in his mind. What kind of sick bastard would even do that kind of thing, and why was she acting like it wasn't a big deal?!

"W-What?"

Yet Hikari only scoffed before turning back to the fridge and picking out a carton of milk before popping the top with cynical amusement. "Funny right? I walked in on them. Man, I really was living in a fantasy until that night. Gotta say, it woke me right up to how he really felt about me."

Feeling his mouth still hanging wide open, Hawk forced it to close before shaking the horrible thoughts away. She didn't seem all that bothered by it but the hero wasn't so sure. Who would ever be okay after something like that?

No wonder she gave up on the idea of romance after that. He seemed like this guy just stomped on her heart and crumbled to pieces before she even had a chance.

His throat felt unexpectedly dry when he finally spoke, the bird forcing himself to speak.

"I..I..I'm sorry Hika-chan. That's awful. You didn't deserve to get treated like that."

Hikari only shrugged her shoulders though, turning away from him once more in order to hide her true expression.

Her voice sounded just as joyful and uninterested as always. "Yeah well, that was a common occurrence in my life so I got used to it. What's with the long face brother? What, you're gonna cry or something?"

That's when another thought entered it mind, the hero suddenly desperate for the information. "W-Who even was he?"

The girl paused once more, almost like she was debating on what to say before releasing a heavy breath. Except this time, it wasn't as happy as all of her previous comments.

No, this one was rather sad for some reason. "He doesn't matter, he's dead now.."

Once again the room grew quiet at the unknown words, a new sense of dread filling the space for some reason. If she really didn't care about that guy then why did she seem so sad about his death?

It wasn't like the guy deserved her sympathy after treating her like utter trash and throwing her feelings away. There was definitely something else here, something she wasn't telling him.

Although Hawks took one look at her turned back before deciding to give up. He didn't want to push her so hard yet. That time would come. Things like these weren't going to fix their relationship anyways.

Shaking his head in order to push the wandering thoughts from his head, Hawks' voice returned a moment later, softer than it was previous. "J-Just be careful, okay? I don't trust Dabi, and you shouldn't either.."

There was a small pause before Hikari answered, her face still nestled in the fridge as she found his words somehow humorous. "Who says I trust him?"

And that was enough for Hawks right now. He could deal with that Dabi thing another time but something told him to drop it for now. At least she was wary of him for now.

Although, that didn't mean that he was going to let that villain touch his sister again. Over his dead body.

But because Dabi wasn't here right now it meant that Hawks could push it aside, the hero choosing to move towards the living room before flopping down on the sofa with a sigh.

He'd get back to that later. Right now he had to figure out a way to fix Hikari.

Finding the remote, Hawks then clicked on TV before flickering through the channels only to stop on one with a very familiar scene. It seemed to be a news report from the high end Nomu attack in Kyushu a little while back.

The screen depicted highlights from the fight, showing him and Endeavor saving that entire building as the hero's finger graced on the button again in order to change the channel. The last thing he wanted to think about was that day.

Yet that's when the camera changed to another scene as a female reporter echoed through the screen.

Although even though the number one and two hero, Hawks and Endeavor were hard at work, there seemed to be other unexpected hero's willing to help out.

Reporters are still on the look out for this brave citizen who single handedly saved a family of four along with rescuing and reuniting a six year old boy to his mother during the attack. Their identity is still anonymous but we do have footage from our helicopters in order to replay the daring rescue in real time. Take a look.

Hawks then watched as a very familiar blonde haired girl popped onto the screen, her lips twisted into a frown as she threw a chunk of cement at a large Nomu before running away as it charged her.

Then it flashed to another angle where the girl quickly spotted a crying little boy before dodging under Nomu's claws and holding him close to her chest, almost like she was protecting him while she ran.

Wait, he knew that dress and hair anywhere...was that...Hikari…?

Quickly tuning to look at his sister, Hawks then turned back to the TV before his mouth couldn't help but drop open in surprise.

Yeah, there was no doubt about it. That girl on the news, it was his sister.

It almost seemed hard to believe, watching again as the footage replayed while the bird leaned forward in his seat. But that didn't make any sense, his sister had done such awful things and she was a villain.

So why did she save these random people while he wasn't watching? She had no benefit in it, as far as he could see..

Letting his voice come out as even as possible, the bird called back to the person in question. "Hey Hikari, this is you, isn't it?"

The girl lifted her head in question before making her way over to his spot on the sofa as she took in the news report before narrowing her eyes. Ugh, of course the camera's caught that. How unfortunate.

At least the footage was low quality enough so that the commission couldn't find her. That was one less thing to worry about. "So, what about it?"

Hawks seemed rather shocked at that, pointing to the screen in disbelief. "Hold on, you saved those people, why?"

At his word choice, Hikari twisted her face in disgust before turning away, almost like she didn't want to talk about it. "Whoa whoa whoa back it up bird boy. I didn't save anyone. Don't call it that. You weren't doing your job back then and since I don't believe in killing, I did something. That's all."

The bird couldn't help but stay hung up on one part of her sentence though. "What do you mean you don't believe in killing?"

The girl only shrugged though, like the response was second nature to her. "It's never been my thing. Too clique and easy. I like to make my victims suffer in...other ways.."

And although her response was slightly disturbing, Hawks chose to focus on the first part of her sentence. Wait, now that he thought about it, she was right. From what she had seen Hikari had never killed anyone.

That dealer at the club last night, the traitor that said unnecessary things, and even him. She had let them all live. The bird didn't realize it until now but that was utterly strange, especially for a villain.

And that was because villains didn't usually have moral compasses or senses of right and wrong. They would usually just kill with no questions asked. So why was Hikari different?

Was it really just personal preference or was it something more? Did she actually dislike the idea or did she truly just find it boring? Now that was the thing Hawks' wanted to know.

Mostly because it sparked an idea in his stomach.

Sure, Hikari was just as villainous and cruel as everyone else but it didn't matter what her reasons were, the facts still remained. Hikari didn't kill, and that was something that he had never seen from a villain before.

Maybe all hope wasn't lost. Because if she could disagree with killing then maybe there were other things she could disagree upon. Maybe this was the key to taking her out of her villain lifestyle, to helping her break away from these horrible ideas she grew up with.

Immediately raising from his seat, Hawks let his wings open all the way out before calling over to his sister with rushed excitement.

"Hikari! I know how to get you close to the commission!"

Turning around at his words, the girl couldn't help but raise an eye, hiding her sudden interest in the topic. "Yeah? Well, spit it out already."

Although that's when Hawks answered, far too bright and hopeful as Hikari widened her eyes at the implications his words held.

"You can be a hero!"

….

….

….

Blinking in frozen shock, Hikari couldn't help but shake her head in utter disbelief.

"I'm sorry, I think I just had a stroke. What did you just say?"

Yet Hawks was happy to reiterate with a happy shout, his wings pushing out even further. "I said, you can be a hero, like me!"

And after hearing the outrageous words once again, she felt them forcibly sink into her brain all at once before immediately turning around and walking away. "Yeah, that's a good one, Hawks. Really funny. For a minute I thought you had something there.."

Although to her dismay, the bird only followed her. "What? I am being serious. That news report proved it to me. It doesn't matter why you did it, the point is you saved that family. That means somewhere in there, you have the heart of a hero.."

At those disgusting words, Hikari felt herself visibly cringe before sticking her fingers into her ears and walking even further away.

What he was suggesting was utterly ridiculous in every single way. Why would Hikari ever want to be the thing that ruined her life, the thing that took her brother away from her? It sounded like torture from all angles.

Besides, a long time ago the president made it perfectly clear that the hero society didn't want anything like her representing them. That's why they attacked her in the first place. Why would she ever want to live through that again?

Realizing her brother was following her, Hikari frowned in response. "Oh my god, I think I'm gonna be sick. Don't call me that ever again. I will and will never be a...whatever you just said…"

Hawks then watched as she gagged even the attempt of the word "hero" as if the phrase practically made her sick to her stomach.

And it did, after everything that happened Hikari couldn't help but feel a bitter taste because of that word. It felt so disgusting to her, almost like when Dabi called her one just to purposely pissed her off, now Hawks was doing the same.

The hero still had hope though, lifting his arms out in exasperation. "Come on Hika-chan. You should just give it a try. You have the skill, I've seen it. All you need is a little direction and.."

Yet that's when Hikari spun around to meet him, sticking a finger in his face. "You really are an idiot if you think I would ever willingly agree to dress up in some kind of little spandex tights and play pretend hero. What happened in Kyushu doesn't mean shit. You're grasping for something that's not even there, bird brain."

And although the girl may have had a point, Hawks wasn't ready to give up in the slightest. Sure, this could've been a lost cause but something inside knew that Hikari wasn't all evil, even if she didn't want to admit it.

No, this was something he couldn't let go of, for both of their sakes.

That's when a new idea popped into his mind, sighing heavily in her direction. "Look Hikari, you want to get close to the commission, right?"

At the mention of the commission, he watched as Hikari's defensive position deflated only slightly, allowing him to continue. "What you're asking for isn't an easy feat. They don't just notice you for anything. You either have to be a high level threat or someone they want on their side."

The bird then finished plainly, watching his sister's reaction as he did so.

"What I'm saying is, your only options are to go to a commission issued prison or get them to want to recruit you as the next best hero. Those are only two ways you will get even remotely close to them."

A small bit of silence echoed throughout the space after that, Hikari clearly scanning his face for any kind of lie or manipulation.

And sure, he was kind of stretching the truth when he said those were the only two options but he also knew that Hikari was desperate and she would probably jump on the best chance that was available.

Almost reading her mind, Hikari then turned away from her brother before placing a finger to her lips and thinking about something else in particular. Except this time, Hawks couldn't figure it out.

"What are you doing?"

Hikari answered a moment later, straightforward and honest. "I'm debating the prison option."

This caused the bird to drop his mouth open in utter disbelief. What the hell? What kind of person would take prison over becoming a well respected hero?!

Well, a villain he supposed, but it still didn't make any sense to him.

But was this girl seriously really debating prison when the other option was far more simple? She was so exhausting right now.

"Come on sis, you gotta be kidding me. Becoming a hero isn't that bad. Besides, it would only be temporary, just until the commission tries to recruit you. And then, you can go back to how you were before."

Although Hawks secretly wished that she would take the bait so that in the time she was "pretending" maybe it would also spark something in her that would pull his sister away from the villain lifestyle.

The reason she was so against hero's was because she didn't realize how great they could be, he just knew it. Hikari just needed some firsthand experience, that's all it was.

That's all he hoped it was anyways.

And he could see the wheels turning in his sister's mind, obviously trying to come up with a better solution and yet finding none before Hikari turned around in a circle with a grunt.

"No no no, absolutely not. I'm not going to...if you think you can…"

In Hikari's mind though, the girl couldn't help but admit that her brother's plan was smart. Sure, it was utterly stupid and she was sure that he was trying to manipulate her into something, but it was smart.

She hated that she was out of options, that it had taken years to even get anything out of the commission and Hikari knew she had to face the facts. Hawks was the key to getting what she wanted.

Although, that also meant following his stupid wishes.

And that's when some kind of realization crossed her eyes before walking over to the nearest wall and placing her head on the surface in some kind of annoyed defeat.

He was right, this was the fastest way to get something done, even if she despised it.

"I hate you."

Her words were harsh but they couldn't help but bring a small smile to his lips, knowing that she had just agreed to take the first step, even if she didn't know it yet.

Welp, Hawks is gonna try and make Hikari a hero. Let's see how that works out. Also we get a little lore into Hikari's backstory and what happened in the past. Trust me, I have a plan and everything will make sense once you have all the pieces.

This story is written in a way that only makes complete sense once you read further and have all the pieces to understand what everything means. It's gonna be worth it, I promise. Everything happens for a reason and nothing is what it seems. :)

Next Chapter: Hawks' plan happens as he hopes he can reform his sister into a hero.
