AN: I don't own My hero Academia
I have a question
"Father?"
Endeavour halted his hand before reaching the door handle. Today was an important one. There was a conference being held at his agency. He truly disliked these sorts of events. Reporters rushing for the next big story attempt to tear him limb from limb with a range of questions. Most of them are personal. He hated those types the most. Don't these people know the word privacy? Even so, it was one he couldn't afford to miss. Still, he paused turned around after recognising the voice that called to him. "What is it, Izuku?"
Little Izuku was not so far behind him. His little head had to be lifted in an uncomfortable angle just to meet his father in the eye. In his arms was the precious Endeavour plushie he liked to carry around. He was holding it tightly for comfort while biting his lip nervously. "I…I have a question," He said unsure.
With a glance at the clock, Endeavour knew he didn't have time. Izuku was a very curious child. Ever since he learned how to properly talk, he was always asking questions. They started with innocent and kind of silly. Like why can't I say up past 9? Where does the sun go when the moon is up? Do clouds taste like cotton candy? Then they slowly evolved. Some of them were hard to answer. How do quirks work? Why does Touya wear bandages a lot of time? Are you and mom ok? You don't talk very much. Either way, he knew he wouldn't have time for the boy's question. It would surely multiply by ten like usual. "Izuku, I'm running a little late for work. Why don't you ask one of your siblings?" He suggested sternly.
Izuku's head dropped and hunched his back. He hid his disappointed face behind his plushie. "Ok, father. Have a good day."
After that Endeavour left and Izuku trotted along to his nearest sibling.
*knock, knock*
"It's open!"
A little head of green peeked out the door. "Natsuo. I have a question."
The youngest of his older brothers was planted on a bean bag chair. His eyes were completely focused on the TV screen in front of him. It flashed with bright and explosive graphics. Some of it didn't look like something his young eyes should be watching. That included Natsuo too. The boy's nimble fingers button mashed his controller so hard it looked like it was smoking. It took him a while to answer since he was so distracted by his game. "Sorry, Izuku. I'm busy. Go ask Fuyumi. She'll be more help anyway."
"Ok…good luck."
"Thanks! Die you, aliens, scum!"
Izuku soon closed the door. Natsuo's screams could be still heard beyond it. Then he moved on to the next door which so happened to belong to his sister. Like before he gave it a knock but unlike before someone answered him personally.
A hastily slide of a door later, Fuyumi came huffing out. She looked a mess. Her hair strands were poking in all sorts of directions. Her eyes were black with bags and cracked with red veins. Looking further into her once neat room it was clear she wasn't completely herself. It looked like some creatures had dashed over her desk scattering the papers and then preceded to stick sticky notes all over her walls randomly. "Izuku! What can I do you for?"
Izuku took one glance at her and then at her room. "I have a question…"
Fuyumi frowned and darted her eyes back at the mess of a room. "Sorry, Izuku I'm a little tied up with this project. The science fair is coming up and I want to get this right. Why don't you go ask mom? She's in the kitchen."
With a sad nod, Izuku wandered his way to the kitchen. His little head peeked out from the archway opening. He could see Rei's back minding her own business while she was washing up some dishes. There was a kettle whistling nearby. The woman looked massive to him. Despite the fact his father was much bigger in both width and height there was something about Rei that always unnerved him. He constantly stiffs in her presents. Maybe it was because of the coldness of her quirk. Or the coldness in her eyes whenever she looked at him. To him, the woman was made of pure ice. A lump formed in his throat. He opened his mouth for only a second, but nothing came out. Clenching the side of the walls for support. He tried again. "Mom," he managed to squeak out.
Rei's head turned at the sound of his voice. A forced smile crept on her lips. Although it looked kind there was still this coldness in her eyes. "You need something, Izuku?" She asked in an odd mixture of a chilled yet kind tone.
Izuku ducked his head further behind the wall's corner. His hold on his Endeavour plushie tightened twice as much. "No, it's nothing." He hurriedly said before running away. He couldn't understand why he felt that way around the woman. His siblings get along with her just fine. Even better in fact. They mostly felt comfortable around her. She would always give them love and affection. The smile and look she had when she was with them always seemed warmer than the ones, she had around him. It made him wonder more. So, he headed off to his last destination.
*knock knock*
The door slid open. "Hello, Izuku," Touya greeted warmly. He bent his keens to reach the child's eye level and smiled. "What can I do you for?"
"I have a question," Izuku said again for the third time that day.
Touya chuckled with amusement wondering what it could be this time. "Do you know? What would you like to know?"
"Why do I look different?"
The smile on the older boy's face dropped. He wasn't expecting a question like that. Warily, he looked down at this little brother. His big innocent green eyes stared back at him with wondering desperation. The way he was holding on to his plushie so tightly didn't help things either. The poor child looked like he was going to cry if he didn't get his answer. "Why are you asking that?"
"I look different," he stated sadly. It sounded like he was going to cry. "I don't have red hair like you or father. Or white hair like Natsuo or mom. I don't even have bits of white or red in my hair like Fuyumi. My eyes aren't the right shade of green. Yours are bluer. My hair is curly, not spiked or straight, and I have these weird dots on my face." He poked at a couple of specs painted on his cheeks. He looked so different it was hard not to notice. Nothing about him looked like the others in his family. Everything about him was odd and he couldn't understand why.
Touya let out a hefty sigh. This question was going to pop up one day. He just hoped the one to handle it would be one of his parents. Still, he had a duty as the oldest. So, he scooped up Izuku and cuddled him close. "Those dots are called freckles and they're adorable," he said while landing a smooched on Izuku's chubby cheeks. The child laughed at the affection. It helped lighten the mood. "Come on. Let's go inside. We have a lot to talk about." Then Touya carried Izuku into his room shutting the door behind him. He told Izuku most of what he knew in a way he could understand. It was indeed a very long talk.
"I'm adopted?" Izuku asked again innocently.
Touya nodded once. He had his adopted little brother on his lap while his chin rested on his fluffy curls. They sat cross-legged in the comfort of the bed. The older boy's arms wrapped protectively around the other. "That's right. Something happened to our biological little brother. We don't know what. Mom and dad never when into any details. Then they found you and took you in. Now you're our little brother."
"But what about my real parents. Did they not want me?" Izuku asked sadly. Tears were slowly forming around his eyes as he held his plushie tighter. It was hard for him to take it. This concept of not being their biological child. It opened many more questions for him to ask. Some he was outright scared to even say out loud.
Guilty, Touya turned away, "I don't know. I've never really met your real parents."
"But they threw me away and that's why am here."
Touya flinched at the statement. It was unsettlingly dark for their little Izuku. "I…don't know. They might have their reasons. It's hard to say since I never met them."
"Am I just a replacement?"
Another surprisingly dark question. "Izuku, it's hard to replace something we never had to begin with. As far as we know you are our little brother. Adopted or not."
"Is that why mom doesn't like me?"
Now that was more surprising than anything. Also, highly concerning. Touya's head arched down to meet with Izuku's face. "What brought on that thought? Of course, mom likes you. You're her son."
"But I'm not her real son," Izuku concluded. He fiddled with the flames of his plushie wondering how he should explain it. "She acts differently around me. She's cold. I know she's smiling but it looked so sad."
"Oh, Izuku." Touya shifted Izuku's body around so he would be turned to face him. Then he embraced him strongly while placing his little head at the crook of his neck. Affectionately, he rubbed his head against the smaller boy's cheeks. "Of course, mom doesn't like you. She loves you. Like she loves all of us," he lied through his teeth. He knew his mother acted differently around Izuku. It was just more passive than his father's outright disinterest in his other younger siblings. She gives them more attention than she does with Izuku. She kept this reasonable distance between her and Izuku. Would give the rest of them more or bigger portions of treats. It was clear favouritism, but he couldn't say that to Izuku. "Don't worry about it. Mom was the one who chose you." Technically not a lie. "You must have done something she liked otherwise you wouldn't be here."
Izuku nodded while tightly gripping Touya's shoulder. He only had one more question. "Do you want me?" He choked. "My parent didn't want me. And I don't know why. So, do you?"
His answer was a chuckle. "Of course, we do. You're still here with us, aren't you? We wouldn't want anybody else," Touya assured holding the younger boy tighter.
Then Izuku cried returning the hug. "Thank you," he whispered. "I'll work hard. So, none of you regret taking me."
Meanwhile…
Snap! Snap! Snap!
"Endeavour, endeavour, what's the meaning behind this sudden conference?"
"Does it have something to do with the sudden sting of warped villains?"
"Finally, a confirmation on your youngest child? Has something happened to them? You've been unusually quiet about it."
"Is it a boy or a girl?"
"Are the rumours about you adopting a child true?"
"Endeavour…"
And so, on and so on. Such an endless stream of mind-numbing questions. None of them was even half as amusing as the ones Izuku's ask. They were fired at him at all angles. It was an annoying drape of noise. A blurred buzz. The flashes of cameras didn't help ease his headache. He hated this. He couldn't understand how his biggest rival was able to handle the press all while putting on a goofy smile. It's just so nauseating. Still, he had to get through this or else they might do something crazy. Like break into his house or stalk his kids. He has precautions already set for such events as well as lawyers at the ready to sue if necessary. His family members hated to be bothered and so does he. How dare some of them stalk his children. The thought of them possibly stalking Izuku when he's free to step outside was the worst. The more curious they were the more ravenous. So, this conference was set up to throw a bone to these barking dogs.
Sighing, Endeavour finally spoke: "regarding my youngest child I would like to confirm one thing. Yes, they are adopted." The was a collected gasp from the crowd. The barking stopped with the only remaining sound being the clicks of cameras. Good, they're listening. "There was an incident 4 years ago. My biological child was lost. That's when my wife found and took in Izuku. My adopted son. The papers were signed and now he's ours. He'll be attending kindergarten soon. I'd appreciate it if he would be given the right to privacy like the rest of my children. That is all."
The howling of questions began again. "Endeavour, did you take this child in to fill the grief of our lost child?"
"…you could say that."
"Has there be any problems for you after adopting this child?"
"Can't say that there were. It did take some adjusting but he gets along with my other children."
"Any words on the child's biological parents? How did he end up in the adoption system?"
"We were never able to meet the parents. So, I don't know much about them. We raised Izuku from a baby."
"Endeavour…" the questions dragged on for nearly an hour. At least the masses were finally satiated. They shouldn't want to brother Izuku too much now. His picture will be released to the public soon as well which made him a little nervous. But within a week they should lose interest much like what happened to his other children. If he were lucky another big villainous incident would happen. Then the spotlight would shift away from the child. He just needed to keep an eye on him.
"If you ever had the option of swapping your adopted son back to your departed biological son. Would you take it?"
That question snapped something inside. It unleashed a fire that burned away the walls of calm logic he raised around his tamed answers. His teeth grind together. The fire on his face flared to life. "How dare you," with a menacing whisper tone. His eyes shaped to daggers as he glared at the reporter who gave such an insensitive question. "Even suggested that! To throw away my adoptive son for a son I never even knew. Let alone raised." He roared shaking the crowd around him. "Blood or not. As far as I'm concerned Izuku is my son."
AN: and so Izuku has found out he's adoptive and now the public knows of his existence. This will probably not bite Endeavour in the backside in the extremely far future.
Manguyperson – well since you seem to read these, I can say it here. Izuku will be 100% quirkless. What I was saying in my previous notes was that I've already written the quirkless reveal event. It's done but I can't post it since there are a few more events before I get to that one. So, you all still have time to wait before that bomb hits.
Liziliza – even as a small child. Izuku had some heroic qualities. It will be interesting to see if Endeavour will keep his promise indeed.
Ajmojar- …funny you should mention 'The students of Shiketsu high.' Mainly because of something that will happen in this somewhere down the line. I swear I will return to that when my life allows me to write long chapters again. Also, thanks. I put a lot of thought and effort into what I write. I know it's not the best. It's pretty mess but I try. And I too enjoy a softer-ish Endeavour instead of the comical villain jerk type he ends up being in most fics.
Guest – you have a point. Endeavour is still Endeavour, but Rei has sort taken that coldness when it comes to Izuku. Not completely as seen here. She will at least pretend to be nice while Endeavour is completely indifferent to everyone but Izuku and Touya. Touya is the tool for Endeavour while Izuku is a tool for Rei. This may or may not work out for either of them.
Knightwalker405 – You'll have to wait awhile. There is still some time before I reach that event. I only hope I did it well.
Dreamer-Sara – are you ok over there? It seems you're having a slight malfunction.
Hi its me – I'm willing to assume you're the guest person that has been asking for updates. Well hello to you too and thanks. Here's event number 11. The next one might come earlier since I'm some how a little head of schedule. Don't hold me too that.
That all for now. See you next time when Izuku spends some time with the girls…Humm.
