When Levi had been assigned to guard duty, he figured it would be an easy job. He had honestly been pretty bummed since he was sure he wouldn't see any potential action. After all, they had god knows how much security around the place. With the Youngblood on the lookout for the talismans, Kingsley and the other officers wanted to make sure the pig talisman was secure.
At least until they cleared out what exactly they were going to do with it with the agents from Section 13 anyway. He really didn't think it mattered either way. He was pretty much just bound to stand here and try to keep himself entertained for the next hour or two. Or at least that was where he was supposed to go.
"Hey there Levi…"
The Texan blinked, not sure he was actually seeing what he was seeing. Surely his big cousin couldn't have been standing right in front of him right now. He hadn't really asked his pa about Kenny or that side of the family in general for a while. He'd been so busy with everything going on in the Vanguard it just hadn't crossed his mind.
"What exactly do you think you're doing here Kenny?" Levi asked, narrowing his eyes. It couldn't have been anything good knowing him. Kenny wasn't exactly a bad person. He annoyed Levi like hell sometimes, but he wasn't evil or anything. He just seemed to have both a love and a knack for getting into mischief.
Kenny feigned a hurt expression. "Oh, c'mon now. I went and came all this way to visit my baby cousin and he can't even work up the good graces to give me a proper hello," he said, shaking his head.
"Last I heard about ya was when you went and wrangled auntie Jessie's gang from right under her nose," Levi said, stepping towards him. "So you'll have to excuse me if I think it's a tad little bit suspicious, you showing up here when I'm supposed to be helping guard this important artifact and all."
Kenny tilted his head and looked past him. "Oh, is there something important in there? I didn't even care to ask," he said before smirking. "Well, since you went and said that maybe I should go on and take a little peek inside. Don't suppose I could convince ya to help your big cousin take a little bitty ole look, can I?"
Levi got into a fighting stance. "Yer playing with fire Kenny. I'm not the only member of the Vanguard here. I don't know what you got planned, but it ain't gonna work."
Kenny cracked his knuckles as he began to approach him. "Ready to tussle huh? This is gonna be just like that when we were youngins." He charged at Levi, who quickly jumped up and kicked at him. Kenny blocked it, but was sent stumbling back. He smirked and shook his arm. "Well, almost. Looks like ya went and put a bit of muscle on since last time."
Levi smirked before running at him and jumped up to deliver another kick, but Kenny ducked underneath him. "But you're still relying on all them fancy moves I see!" he yelled, grabbing his shirt collar and throwing him over his shoulder.
Levi managed to land on his feet however, and charged forward, tackling his older cousin from behind. "I'm gonna use these 'fancy moves' to knock ya on yer ass!" He pushed him towards the wall, but Kenny lifted his foot and kicked off of it. Kenny threw his elbow back, hiding him in his side.
The second he felt his grip loosen, he slipped loose and then turned around and threw a punch at Levi, who spun around it and caught his arm. He threw him over his shoulder, slamming him to the ground. Before he could capitalize on it however, Kenny grabbed his arm and caught him in an arm bar.
Levi grit his teeth and tried to pull his arm loose, but Kenny kept an iron grip on it. "I think it's time ya remember how to wrestle with the big boys," he said. He yanked on his arm and then kicked up, hitting him in the chest. Levi stumbled back, but quickly balanced himself. Only to have to duck again when a fist came flying at his head.
Kenny smirked as he kept swinging at him, but Levi managed to duck and dodge each blow. "C'mon little cousin, that really all ya got?" Levi growled before knocking one of his fists away and spinnin around. He delivered a kick to his side, and Levi grunted, but then reached up and caught his leg. "Well, you still hit like a girl…"
Levi glared, but suddenly Kenny kicked his other foot from under him. He hit the ground, but then pushed up on both arms, kicking both of his feet and knocking Kenny back. He leapt back up to his feet, going at Kenny with a barrage of punches and kicks. He either blocked or ducked them, managing to throw a few of his own back.
"Well, yer heated as hell now huh? Don't get all pissy on me cousin. I'm only messing with ya," Kenny said before pulling out the rest of the chain from his pocket. He began swinging at Levi, who moved out of the way. With the range of the chain it was hard to move in and get a hit on him.
"That's the problem with you Kenny, always messing and playing around," Levi said as he stepped to the side to avoid another swing. "I bet ya my left arm yer here to steal that talisman for the Youngblood. And I'd bed my right ya got no idea what type of damage they could do if they get their hands on all of em!"
Kenny snorted as he pulled his chin back. "Ya'd be right too. Don't really matter what they got planned for 'em. All that really matters to me is pulling off the heist. Well, the paycheck doesn't hurt none either."
"Well I hate to be the one to burst yer bubble, but it ain't happenin'. Soon enough the rest of the Vanguard will be here and-"
"Levi! Levi, do you copy?!"
Levi frowned and reached up to his ear piece. "Renee, I'm a little bitty bit busy here. What's going on?" he asked.
"Somebody is probably going to be headed your way! You need to be on guard!"
"Probably? Yer a little late on that boss lady." Did the others not see what was going on already? They should have been here as soon as they spotted his cousins on the camera. What was going on? "Company's already here. Where are the others?"
"Wait, is… oh no, the camera feet! It's on a loop! Levi, listen! We're getting-!"
The channel suddenly seemed to be filled with static, and Levi suddenly felt the ground underneath him shake. "What the-?!"
Kenny smiled. "Well, it looks like it's about time for me to be taking my leave, little cousin," he said, tipping his hat. Before Levi could question him, he heard a loud explosion, and was then pushed forward by the force of it. He tumbled against the ground, rolling a few feet before coming to a stop.
With a groan, he looked back up to see Kenny walking towards a large whole in the ground. One where the safe that held the pig talisman behind him used to be. He waved towards his younger cousin. "It's been real fun catching up. But I gotta get going. Have to drop this thing off and pick up my paycheck. But I'm sure I'll see ya again. Real soon," he said before jumping down the hole.
Levi quickly got up and ran after him. When he looked down, he saw there was a large tunnel far down underneath the building. And at the bottom of it was a large truck, with both his cousin and the safe in the back. Kenny smiled and gave him a salute before hitting the back of the truck. "Let's get going girls!"
The truck suddenly pulled off, and Levi grit his teeth. "Oh no you don't…" He reached up and pressed his earpiece, but still got nothing but static. Looks like he wasn't going to be able to fill the others in. But they would figure it out when they saw the giant hole here. He stepped back before leaping down the hole himself.
He landed, and then balled his fist up. "Earth!" The ground beneath him began to shift, and as he made to run, it moved along with him. He beelined after the truck, determined to chase down his cousin and get the talisman back.
Kenny, who was making sure the safe was hooked down and secured, felt a tap on his back. He looked over at Jorie who nodded behind them. "Looks like your cousin isn't ready to say goodbye yet," she said.
He smirked. "Well, it has been a while since we got some old fashioned family bonding time. But do me a favor and shake him for me, would ya Jorie?" he asked. She lifted her rifle and then took aim at him.
By the time Levi got closer enough to see she was aiming something at him, it was too late for him to react. He felt something hit his leg, and fell forward with a grunt. Whatever had hit him wasn't an actual bullet. Otherwise he was sure he would have felt a lot worse than he did. But it still packed a bunch.
He managed to roll back up to his feet however, and continued the chase. Jorie prepared to fire again, but Levi swung his hand closed. The chunks of earth moved from the walls beside him, closing together and making a shield of rock. Jorie cursed under her breath. She couldn't get a clear shot like this.
"Well, ain't he just learned a whole batch of new tricks," Kenny said, raising an eyebrow.
Flannery looked back from the driver's seat, a frown on her face. "How are we gonna shake him Kenny?" she asked. If he was still on them by the time he got near the end of the tunnel, he'd be able to radio his little friends for backup. She didn't want to have to deal with the rest of the Vanguard.
"I got an idea!" Sue Ellen, leaning out of the passenger's side.
Kenny hemmed and crossed his arm. "And what might that be?"
Sue Ellen smiled before suddenly pulling out a grenade. She pulled the pin out with her teeth before tossing it up in the air. It exploded near the top of the tunnel, causing a few chunks of rock to rain down over Levi. The xiaolin warrior noticed them coming, and was forced to drop his shield to move them aside.
Unfortunately, doing so let Jorie have another clear show at him. "Bang…"
Another rubber bullet made its way to Levi's chest, knocking the air out of him and sending him falling back. He once again landed with a grunt, but pushed past the pain as he rolled over onto his hands and feet and pressed on it. He has lost quite a bit of ground, but he wasn't giving up yet.
Kenny still couldn't help but smirk. His little cousin always was a stubborn one. It was a Bailey family trait it seemed. Jorie was about to pull another shot before he made another earth shield again, but then suddenly the tunnel shook. "Shit, looks like that grenade rumbled things up more I thought. Sorry," Sue Ellen said.
If Levi at all noticed the shaking, he didn't show it. He just kept on trying to run them down. Kenny turned towards him, and then noticed a few more rocks falling from the ceiling of the tunnel. "Levi!" Some of them crashed down, but Levi still kept on going as they narrowly missed them. "Levi!"
A Levi caught up and began reaching for the truck, another rock fell, this time right on track to hit him. "Damn it kid…" Kenny scowled before jumping from the back of the truck, right towards him. Levi looked surprised at the sudden action, and braced himself for an impact. Kenny tackled him to the ground just a split second before the rock came crashing down.
They rolled in the dirt, both grunting as they slid to a stop. Levi shook his head and then looked over towards the rather large rock that had nearly crushed him. "What the…?" he then looked over towards his cousin, confused. "Why'd ya…?"
Kenny got up and dusted himself off. "What do ya mean why?" he asked, sounding almost insulted by the questioning tone he was giving him. "Yer my cousin. I don't actually want ya dead." He walked over and then offered him a hand, and after a moment of hesitation, Levi took it.
"Thanks," he said as Kenny pulled him up with his feet. He had forgotten that for all his teasing and slick ways, his big cousin did care about his family. He'd always had his back and even helped him get away with more than a little trouble when they were younger. But still... "You know I still have to stop you though, right?"
Kenny clicked his tongue. "I know you still have to try, little cousin," he said, one of his fingers like a gun. "Bang."
Yet another rubber bullet struck Levi, and he was knocked right off his feet. The truck backed up, and Jorie reloaded her rifle before taking aim down at the groaning Levi once more. This time he didn't seem to be getting back up, but she still wanted to be sure. "Sorry bout that cousin. But can't have you tailing us anymore," he said.
Levi tried to replace the breath in his lungs as Kenny got back onto the truck. He was gonna have quite a few nasty bruises later on. That was for sure. "Looking forward to next time little Levi. Give Uncle Clay my best." He tipped his hat, and the truck pulled off.
Levi watched as they left. He thought about chasing after them, but… by this point it was pretty clear he wasn't gonna be able to catch them on his own. He let out a sigh before forcing himself back up to his feet. He needed to get back to the other and fill them in on what happened.
And probably see a doctor to make sure he didn't get too banged up. He started making his way back, mentally vowing to stop his cousin next time. Family or not, he was still a criminal trying to help the Youngblood. He may not have liked it, but somebody was gonna have to stop him. And it might as well have been him.
"Nice job ladies," Kenny said, tossing the talisman up and down in his hand. When he had come up with the idea to just steal the whole damn safe, the girls had looked at him like he was crazy. But as usual they ended up pulling together and figuring out how to make it work.
He tossed their prize to Flannery, who caught it and then placed it in a small container they would drop off to the Youngblood's later. They were going to get quite a hefty paycheck for this tiny little piece of stone. "Well, it's gonna be payday soon girls. And this job's MVP spot and bonus goes to Bonnie," he said patting Bonnie's head. The girl blushed as Kenny went on. "Found the tunnels, planned the escape route, and even took care of the candles. That's our little prodigy."
He kissed her on the cheek, and she cleared her throat. "Well, it was actually simple. But I'm glad you can recognize my worth on this team," she said, crossing her arms.
"Modest too," Sue Ellen joked, poking her other cheek. Bonnie pouted and swatted her hand away, and the blonde giggled and kept poking at her in response.
Jorie looked over at Kenny with a curious expression. "Should we be worried about yer cousin knowing who we are? I mean he's definitely going to tip off the Vanguard. They're gonna be expecting us next time we're around," she said.
Kenny shrugged. "I wouldn't worry too much. Ain't like we're gonna be flying in blind either. And as tough as little ole Levi is, he ain't much of a planner," he said. "Sides, even if he was, there ain't nobody who can plan for anything we ever cook up."
Flannery huffed. "Don't get cocky Kenny. We still got a few more of these things to track down, and ya know they're gonna be more careful with them from here on out."
He walked towards her, reaching up and cupping her chin. "C'mon now Flannery, I think yer overreacting a bit. We'll get 'em one way or another. If they tighten up security… Well, that just makes things more fun. So don't you worry yer pretty little head over it," he said, giving her a peck on the lips.
Flannery sighed. Of course he would only see the next few jobs as a challenge. "Now, let's get going. We wouldn't wanna keep our friends waiting after all," he said as he turned and began making his way off.
"After we get paid can we go shopping! I saw some shoes at this cute little store I wanted to get when we were setting up earlier!" Jorie said.
"Oh! I need get some more stuff for this explosive I'm working on. I heard there's a weapons dealer that can get some good stuff!"
"I did want to get some more equipment…"
"We should be laying low after a big job."
"Live a little Flannery. Nobody's gonna look twice at us. Far as I can tell, nobody in this city seems to anyway," Kenny said, once again waving off Flannery's concerns. Half the Youngblood could walk around the city without being recognized. All they needed was a change of clothes it seemed.
Besides, after a job like this he thought his girls deserved to be spoiled a little. They had a lot of work ahead of them so he wanted them to enjoy as much downtime as possible before he was due for another family reunion with his dear little cousin. Next time he wasn't sure he'd be able to afford to pull his punches though.
A/N: Some Kenny and Black Vipers content! Someone requested another fic on them and I started this one a little while ago. Maybe the same person who was sending the Queen those Kenny ask lol. Also have an idea for something a little spicier with them but... you know how I am when it comes to these things time-wise. Hope you guys enjoyed!
