"You're out of your weight class kid!"
Olivier, or rather Yin Lang, panicked as he just barely managed to avoid another punch from Victor. He had been on his way to school as usual when he had seen the monster hybrid harassing a local store. He didn't seem to be up to anything in particular, but it wasn't as if Olivier could just let him wreck havoc.
So he found a hiding spot, called out Fang, and transformed to go confront the young villain. The fight wasn't exactly going his way however. Transforming may have given him abilities, but it didn't alter his actual fighting skills at all. And his fighting skills compared to Victor's were rather tame.
"I'm just just gonna let you run around terrorizing people," Yin Lang said as he spun his batons and swung at him.
Victor chuckled as he easily avoided them. "You got the whole heroic attitude down. Too bad you ain't got the skills to back it up," he said as he grabbed Yin Lang's wrist and then threw him over his shoulder. He sent him flying into the air, only to be yanked right back when Victor shot out bandages and wrapped him up.
He laughed as he swung the young heroes around a few times before tossing him into a nearby car. Yin Lang groaned, and Victor raised his hands before shooting a blast of lightning at him. He quickly flipped back on top of the car and jumped away just before it struck. Victor kept shooting, and Yin Lang dodged them before taking cover around the corner of a nearby building.
"Are you sure you're a wolf and not a rat? You do a whole lot of scurrying around," Victor mocked as he walked over to go after him. The second he came around the corner, Yin Lang swung at him with his weapons, but Victor once again ducked out of the way. Victor swung back at him, and Ying Lang ducked and leapt past him.
He rolled on the ground, spotting a manhole as he got back to his feet. "Please work," he muttered before stomping on the ground. The manhole came flying up from the ground, and Yin Lang smiled. "Yes!" He'd seen this move in cartoons a bunch of times. He swung and hit the manhole, sending it flying towards Victor.
The demon turned around just in time to get hit in the head by the flat piece of metal. He winced and stumbled back, then glared towards him. "Well, you finally got a hit in. Hope it was worth it," he said before rushing towards him.
Yin Lang panicked, raising his weapons and preparing to defend himself as Victor charged his fist and got ready to take a swing at his face. Right as he did however, a hand reached out and caught his fist. Both Yin Lang and Victor looked confused as a hulking figure stood between them.
"Hello there. Pardon me for cutting in, but you two were causing a big of a ruckus," Hue said as he tightened his grip on Victor's fist. "Why don't we all just settle down?"
Victor grunted. He had heard Alisha say something about this guy. He was a seasoned hero. The Blue Basher or some crap like that. He was pretty sure Drake or Alisha would be telling him to leave right about now. But they weren't, so he was going to see if the big shot hero lived up to the hype.
"Or how about this big guy, I kick your ass and turn wolf boy over there into a fancy ass pelt," he said before sending a surge of electricity through his fist. Yin Lang looked worried, as he could see sparks coming off of both of them. But Hue simply stood there and smiled. "The hell?"
Hue gripped his fist even tighter, and Victor winced before swinging at him with his other fist. Hue caught it as well, and then slowly continued to tighten his grip until Victor was forced down to one knee. "I have to admit. For someone who's power isn't electrical based, you pack quite a punch. But I've tangled quite a few lightning users in the past."
Victor narrowed his eyes, and then kicked upwards and hit him in the chin. Hue didn't even budge. "What the hell?! What are you made of?!" he asked.
"You really should be in school young man," Hue said before lifting him up into the air. The world began a blur as he began spinning Victor around above him, and then stopped and threw him. Victor hit the ground and tumbled a few feet. "If I'm not mistaken, you're one of the Vanguard members aren't you?I think you should come with me so we can discuss a few things."
Victor glared up at him and got ready to attack, but suddenly a figure appeared in the air between them. Shen Mi smirked as she turned around towards Victor. "Well, someone is getting a proper butt kicking," she mocked.
The demon scoffed towards her. "What are you doing here?"
"Keeping you from dragging our villainess name through the mud. Drake doesn't want everyone to see you get bullied by big blue over there," she said pointing her thumb back at Hue. "So he sent me here to scoop you up."
"I don't need to be scooped up! I can handle this!"
Hue narrowed his eyes. "Sorry young lady, but I'm not quite done talking with him. Or you for that matter." Hue's glow brightened, and he rushed towards Shen Mi. He didn't want to hurt the girl, but he couldn't just let them leave either. He would restrain the both of them and then-
"No chance meathead," Shen Mi said, snapping her fingers.
She and Victor both vanished just before he could reach her, and he slid to a stop and mentally cursed. "Darn it!" He could have caught two of the Vanguard's top members. Or at least one of them. He sighed. There was nothing he could do about it now. He turned around towards Yin Lang. "Are you alright?"
Olivier just stood there for a moment, but then nodded. It was so weird seeing his teacher out here fighting as a superhero. It wasn't like it was a secret or anything. Mr. Go kept up his routine for the fun of it, but everybody knew that he and Blue Bull were one and the same. Sometimes he'd be late for class because he was handling some superhero business, and sometimes they even saw him on the news.
But seeing it in person was different. He had handled Victor so easily. He'd acted quickly, and was still calm and collected. He carried himself like… well, a hero. "I'm fine. Thanks to you. I would have been in some real trouble if you hadn't shown up."
Hue reached out and patted him on the shoulder. "Don't feel bad. Victor is a notably dangerous young villina. You did well holding your own against him for as long as you did. Especially for someone who seems new to hero work," he said.
"Is it that obvious?" he asked.
Hue chuckled. "Sorry, but I really do mean it as a compliment. You'll get the hang of things eventually. Now, you should go along now. I can handle talking to the police," he said. He knew Yin Lang never liked sticking around too long after incidents like this.
"I appreciate that," Yin Lang said, nodding. "And uh… thank you again. For helping me. Maybe we can work together again sometime."
Hue nodded back. "It's no problem at all. And I think we'll be meeting up again a lot sooner than you think. Now you really should get going. I'm sure you don't want to be late for class after all," he said.
Yin Lang flinched, his eyes going wide. But then he cleared his throat. "I uh… have to go," he said before running off. Hue just watched him go, an amused look on his face.
"How long did you know?"
Hue looked up from his desk towards Olivier, who had a nervous expression on his face. It had been more than a little awkward to sit through class after what had happened earlier. Olivier kept wrecking his brain about whether or not his teacher really knew who he was.
But eventually he just came to accept that yes, he had. Mr. Go was smart, and he wouldn't have said something like that if he hadn't known. Hue put his pen down and gave him a concerned look. "I'm assuming you're talking about this morning? If you're worried about your identity getting out then-"
Olivier held his hands up and shook his head. "No, I'm not worried about that. If there's anybody I trust with my identity it's you. It's just… how did you figure it out? And when?" he asked. He thought he had been doing a pretty good job keeping things together, but if Mr. Go had noticed, then others might have too.
Hue hummed. "Well, if I'm being honest it wasn't that hard for me to connect the dots. Coming late to classes, you being so tired, the excuses. I've been there. I didn't keep my identity an actual secret for all that long, but I went through the same thing," he explained.
Olivier groaned. "Oh man… do you think anybody else noticed?" he asked worriedly.
"I doubt it. Like I said, I've been through the same thing. It was easier for me to pick up on. You might have quite a lot of eyes on you, but none of them are likely to really notice anything," he assured. "For someone who's new to hero work, you cover your tracks pretty well. Do you have a mentor?"
Olivier shook his head. "Uh, no. Actually, yes. Technically. But… I guess I have a little experience," he said. He didn't know if his parents really counted as mentors. He supposed so. They give him advice and take him on patrol sometimes. But seeing as how he was hesitant about hero work it wasn't exactly a regular thing.
"Your parents?" Hue asked. He saw Olivier flinch, and then held his hand up. "Ah, don't answer that. Forget I even asked."
Olivier sighed and rubbed the back of his head. Well, he had ended up blowing his own secret along with his parents. But at the very least he could take comfort in that Mr. Go wasn't going to tell anyone about it. Or even ask too many questions. "Mr. Go, is it alright if I asked you something?"
Hue smiled warmly. "Of course. I'm always here to help. Whether it's about homework or hero work. So what would you like to discuss?" he asked.
"How do you do this? Like all of it? Being a hero, and a teacher, and just… everything?" he asked, running his hands through his hair. "I mean, I still don't think I'm cut out to be a hero. I was only out there because nobody else was around. But stuff keeps on happening, and I've been doing this for a couple of weeks, and… man."
Olivier leaned against the desk as he thought about everything that had happened since he'd gotten Fang. "I mean, I just… I can't sit back and NOT help people when something happens. But stuff keeps happening, and I don't know how I'm supposed to deal with it and focus on school and volleyball."
Hue hummed and gave him a sympathetic look. Like he's said earlier, he's been where Olivier was now. And he'd known a lot of other young heroes who had too. "Well first I'd like to say that, for what it's worth, I think the fact you don't consider not helping people an option makes you very heroic," he said. "And secondly, I completely understand where you're coming from. Finding the right balance can be… taxing. It's not something you'll get used to over night."
Olivier hung his head. He knew that was probably the case, but knowing he was still going to be dealing with this kind of sucked. "So there's nothing I can do?"
"Well I didn't say that," Hue said. "Have you thought about joining the Vanguard? Teaming up with others can help lighten the burden a bit."
Olivier shrugged. "I don't know. I mean they're actual heroes. I feel like I'd just slow them down. Plus I don't want to reveal my identity to them. I'm not sure they'd be willing to let me in without knowing who I really am," he said.
If people found out who he was, it wouldn't be long before they found out who his parents were too. And things would get really complicated. He was an Agrete. His family got enough attention as it was. If it got out that they were superheroes too? He would never be able to show up without getting mobbed by fans and media again.
Hue rubbed his chin. "Yes, I could see how that might be a problem." The Vanguard wasn't being picky about who they let in, and for good reason. It wouldn't be below the YBA to try and slip spies in. He could vouch for him he supposed, but Olivier didn't seem like he was interested in the first place.
"I'll tell you what Olivier, I have a friend that may be able to help you out a bit with your situation. In the meantime, I'll try to show you the ropes," he said standing up. He reached out and put a hand on his shoulder.
"I know you said you weren't planning on being a hero, but if you really can't just sit back when people are in trouble, I think it's best you know what you're you don't mind getting up a little earlier than usual, we can get some patrols in during the morning before school. I can give you some tips and show you how to hold your own."
Olivier thought for a moment. He usually woke up earlier to get some exercise in, but he supposed that counted. "Yeah, I think I can do that." Between Mr. Go helping him, and going on patrol with his parents, he might actually get to a point where he didn't completely embarrass himself. "So, I'd be like your sidekick?"
Hue chuckled. Most young heroes didn't like being called sidekicks, but Olivier seemed happy about the prospect. "Well, I wouldn't mind yourself calling yourself a mentee rather than a sidekick, but I suppose so," he said. "And I'll try and cover for you about class until my friend can work out they're solution."
The young man smiled and nodded. "Thanks a lot Mr. Go. You really are the best teacher in school… don't tell any of the other teachers I said that."
Hue watched as he walked off, feeling a bit of pride. So many of his students were doing him proud, both in and out of the classroom. He had to focus on doing his best to make sure he set a good example and helped them out.
As Olivier walked down the hall, Fang poked out of the front of his shirt. "Are you sure it was a wise idea to share your identity with him, Olley? This is rather untraditional for miraculous wielders." He understood the situation with his parents and Beat, but this was a big difference.
His parents were already miraculous holders, so they knew the burden and importance of keeping it a secret. And Beat had proven himself a trusted ally, and gave him jerky.
"It's fine, Fang. Mr. Go is cool. He won't tell anybody, and he can show me all types of things about being a hero. I might actually be able to help someone without getting my butt kicked for once," he said. "Besides, I need someone else in my corner. "I don't exactly have a team to fall back on."
Fang hummed, and then looked forward. "Not yet anyway…"
"...excuse me?"
"Well, as far as I know the only other miraculous that are missing from my box are the Eagle and the Raven. The others have yet to find wielders. And if the Guardian is willing to start handing them out again then you may have allies yet."
Olivier came to a stop. "Wait… WHAT?!"
A/N: One shot of Oliver getting some help/advice from Hue. It was one of the suggestions and I do think it would be a really cool idea to have Hue be a mentor figure to Olivier, especially since he's still doing his solo hero thing right now. Hope you guys enjoyed!
