AN: I don't own my hero academia
A new student
U.A. The most illustrious hero school in the country. Producing top tier heroes: Best Jeanist, the top dog All Might and of course his father. It was only natural that Touya would come to this school. He had been dreaming about this place since he started his hero training. It was everything he could imagine. Large pristine hallways no matter the time of day. Nearly every facility member was a pro hero. Even the head cafeteria chef was a hero, and they make some 5-star food. Lessons were more advanced than the average high schooler. With intense and realistic training practice sights. It was all so perfect.
Well, almost perfect.
There was one major factor that prevented Touya from having the perfect U.A experience. They are all around him. Whispering like snakes.
"That's Touya Todoroki right?"
"I heard his dad made those scars."
"Really? I heard he did that to himself to get attention. You've seen how affection Endeavour is with his adopted son."
"He totally looks like the jealous type."
"Super ugly too."
No matter how much time passed he was the centre of negative attention. It came with a territory, given the fact he is the son of Japan's most 'controversial' hero. Was this how his father felt about those media scum talking crap about him? If it was, he understood why the training room had a new hole every other week. He'd like to throw some weights too. More so at these gossiping hyenas laughing behind him. His scars didn't help out his image either. Made him creepy as he heard some girls say. He had tried to make friends, but no one wanted to go near the freaky scarred kid with an evil dad. Well, screw them too. He didn't want to be friends with them anyway. He's completely fine with playing the lone wolf. He's not lonely at all.
Still, those words were so annoying. They watched him as if he was a circus animal. Just waiting for him to pull a tick. None of them dared to face him, so all they can do was waste their breath and stare like cowards. It got his fire burning.
Suddenly, he felt a touch on his arm. It was the trigger they were all waiting for, and he wasn't in the mood to be poked. "WHAT!" He screamed making his fire flare around him. Instantly, regret came for a visit as he saw who it was.
"Oh…I…I…I…I thought…well…" There standing timidly behind them was unexpectedly their friend Tenko in U.A uniform. His eyes widen in fear before dropping his head in a whimper. He looked like a puppy that got scolded by his owner. "I'm sorry," he blurted before running away.
The whispers around Touya had something new to talk about. How mean he was for making a random kid cry. As if he wasn't guilty enough. "TENKO! WAIT!"
"Sounds rough," Tenko commented after listening to his friend's plight.
"Tell me about it." Touya groaned. He'd pull out his hair if he wanted to. Luckily, Tenko understood and didn't hold anything against him. "And sorry about not making it to the party. How was it anyway?"
"Ah well." The smaller boy recounted the events they missed after getting lost trying to find the reunion party location. It was lively from start to finish. All of the old students dogged piled their teacher and carried him around the event hall. There was dancing, music and a lot of homemade videos and pictures of their time as students. "Mr Arata's students are really nice." He commented while thinking back. They doted on him since he was the only child there. The fact that he was their teacher's kid made them tease him more. Calling him cute and wanting to pat his head. It was a little overwhelm but the affection was welcome. Even if he did hide behind Arata half the time. "Actually, seeing them made him think about teaching again."
"Oh yeah. I overheard my dad and him talking about it." His little brother was slowly becoming a workaholic with the amount of time he studies. It's like he doesn't have anything else to do. At the rate he's going he'll run out of things to study. So, his dad and teacher were thinking of cutting that study time. Allowing Arata some extra free time which he planned to use for part time teaching.
Nodding along, Tenko explained further, "that's why I'm here as a new student." He didn't want to be a burden to his new…dad. Still a little strange to think about, but he looked really happy when thinking about possible teaching again. Even if it's part-time. To help out he suggested going to real school and his other dad…even weirder to think about suggested U.A. It was really scary. Especially a school as intimidating as U.A but he wanted to help out even if it was a little. There was one other reason though.
His red eyes then wandered to his friend beside him. Then his cheeks warmth to match their colour as he leaned closer into his friend. "And you're here. So going to school might not be so scary." He said while hooking his gloved hand over Touya's arm. "I'd like it better if we were in the same class."
Touya couldn't help but smile back. Tenko was always the touchy type. Well after they grew over their fear of touching when using the specialised gloves that kept their quirk in check. They wouldn't even let them come close until Izuku designed the first glove set. Now the boy was free to hold whatever they wanted and became extra cuddly. So, Touya didn't feel the need to push them off, even if they got a lot of odd stares. Then something caught his turquoise eyes.
There was a boy in the middle of the hallway that looked very familiar. With short burgundy hair and a black mask. Randomly handing out flyers to every student that passed by him. He was even aggressive about it. Not letting a single student go until they took one. Or more. From the looks of the students who took them they were too afraid to say no.
"I recognised that black mask and a stupid haircut." Touya immediately let go of Tenko, much to their disappointment and waved and a hand high. "Kai!"
Hearing the call of his name, Kai turned around. Regret filled his eyes as he did when he saw that damn hero kid again. Happily waving at him as if they were friends. It was disgusting.
"Yo Kai! I didn't know you'd be here."
Choosing to ignore him, Kai turned round. Then he fast-walked out of there. Sadly, he didn't walk fast enough. A sudden heat blazed over his shoulder pulling him in. Then an arm hooked his neck in place. With a defeated sight, Kai turned around to meet with the hero child's predatory eyes.
"What do you think you're going? Tyring to ignore me," Touya said with a warning hiss.
He wanted to. Truly, he did but it looked like he couldn't fight back. Not without getting in trouble and disappointing his boss. He couldn't allow that, so he gave in. His eyes lazily wandered away from the annoying boy until they landed on the other kid right behind them. They stared back at him with a pout, but that didn't stop a curious glint from shining in their eyes. Oh great. There's another one.
"Ah isn't this nice?"
"Are we even allowed up here?"
"No idea."
"Course you don't, moron." Kai groaned. Against his will, he was forced the school's rooftop by this hero kid. It was lunch break, and it was supposedly perfect place to chill and eat. That is if they don't get found and possibly scolded later. If they did, he'll plead innocent and blame it all on the other two. They were the those that dragged him here. The only upside, he only had to deal with these two and not an army of disease-ridden children in the cafeteria or classroom.
Frowning at the boy's coldness, Touya wondered out loud: "What are you doing here, Kai? I thought heroes aren't your thing."
"They're not," he stated firmly. He wasn't at U.A to be a hero. Far from it. "I'm a part of general studies. Focusing on business and this special course." It happened by accident. He was walking with some of the other members of his clan when some punks jumped them. They got into a scuffle which led to the men being injured. So, he decided to use his quirk He'd been practising using his quirk on organic matter, and having human subjects were good exercise. So, whenever the chance raised, he would take it.
What he didn't know was a U.A staff member saw the whole thing. Impressed by his quirk and level of mastery, they offered a place in what they called a 'special course'. Along with the choice of any of U. A's main courses, they were supplementary classes to cater to a niche subject style. In his case it was medical. It was too good of an offer to pass up. "Who am I to turn the opportunity. Besides it's one step closer to being a doctor."
"You want to be a doctor," Tenko cut in impressed. "You must have a good quirk for it to be recruited. You like helping people?"
"No," Kai said without a shred of remorse in his voice. It made the other two wonder what his purpose was if not a genuine need to help. "Money," That was the simplest and unheroic answer. "Which reminds me." The boy shoved some flyers in the other's faces. If they were going to drag him around might as well use them. "Come to white lotus café. Grand opening this weekend. If traditional sweets and cute treats are what you desire. Look no further."
The boys looked over the flyer. They were well made with an elegant wood grain border with professional photography of all types of sweets. Maybe because it was lunchtime. but looking at those pictures made them hungry. Such beautiful works of edible art. If they taste half as good as they looked not going there would be a crime. Touya knew it would be a crime since he had the chance to try some of these delights.
While the two boys drooled, Kai proudly smirked. Seemed like he caught a couple of consumers for his boss. He'll make sure they'll pay the top price. He knew they had the pocket money for it. At least one of them did and he was going to milk them for all their worth. But first. He took off his gloves and started sanitising them aggressively before putting on a fresh pair. The other boys noticed the odd action and questioned what he was doing. "I rather not get more germs to form you lot."
Touya remembered Kai saying something like that when they met. Although, he never knew what he meant. "You said that before but what does it even mean?"
"Ever wondered where quirks came from?" The golden eyed boy questioned, only receiving head shakes. He began to explain one of the well-known quirk origins theories. A cause mutation that was carried by rats. The spread like a plague throughout the world. "With that logic, they're a disease. The world would be better off without them. They only cause problems." He then looked at his gloved hands. He vaguely remembered being yelled at. Then someone disappeared before being thrown to the streets. All because of his quirk. "When you're born with a deadly disease. You'll be thrown aside. Like filth."
Tenko carefully listened and watched the other's moments. There was something scarily familiar about the way they looked at their hands. As if they were cursed. He then stared at his own cursed hands. Only contained why a piece of cloth. "I think I get it."
"You do?" Touya questioned not completely following either of them.
"Yeah. Quirks are… annoying sometimes. Maybe we would be better off without them." Tenko started which caught Kai's attention. It was their turn to listen and watch carefully. Feeling a kind of kinship with the way the child looked at their hands. That didn't last long with the more they talked. "But if that doesn't have to be it. I can use It for more than just hurting people. I'll use it as a hero like grandma." He whispered one more line to himself as some memories resurfaced. They were still scary, but he could face them a little more easily now than before. "If I do. Maybe I can move on."
Clicking his tongue in disinterest, Kai waved his hand as if shooing off the words. "You two keep your hero syndrome to yourselves," he spat spitefully. Then he looked at his hands again with a little less hate. They still have their uses after all. "Quirks are diseases. However, if I can use this disgusting disease can be helpful to the old man, I will. I'll make a lot of money as a doctor. Then he'll never have to worry."
Touya smiled at his friends. Well friend and boy he will label as a friend since it's easier that way. He was sure the three of them would get along fine even if they were in different classes. At least he didn't have to bear the whole 3 school years in silent angry with all the gossips surrounding him. They'll shut up one day. He will make them shut up.
His eyes gazed out at the horizon. The city beyond the U.A high walls. Cheery blossom's petals decorated the air freely. Bringing their fresh scent with them. One day he'll fly that freely. Sore in the sky and proclaim to the world that he made it. Nothing will stop him. Touya then sprinted off his feet and raced to the edge of the school rooftop. "I'm going to be a hero!" He roared. "Sure, my quirk can hurt people! It can even hurt me!" He knew the path is difficult than for most. Even with a hero for a father. Not only was his quirk dangerous but contradicts his biological make-up. He knew this, yet chose the thorny path anyway. "I'm not going to let them stop me!"
The other two boys watched the Todoroki make his declaration to the wind. Both with opposite expressions. Kai was uncaring and looked more annoyed as his eyes rolled in their sockets. What has the point of yelling? No one was there but them. They weren't even facing them. Meanwhile, Tenko had a look at Awe. Touya was shining brightly in their eyes. He was always too bright to him, and he looked extra cool with the way the wind brushed his white hair one way. Only absolute admiration formed on their face.
"No matter what they say. Or believe. I'll be a hero," he declared louder as the face of his father came to mind. It made his blood burn hotter with determination. "Then I'm going to beat you. Stupid old man." He then turned to his only audience and marched back at them. An everlasting grin on his face. "Let's all work hard ok. A lot of people are going to give us weird looks. But we aren't going to let them bring us down." Then he punched the air between them. Presenting a fist to both. "We'll all fight for what we want."
Kai ignored the fist. He wasn't going to touch that germ-infested thing, but he still verbally accepted. "Guess we can agree on that much."
"Yeah," Tenko chimed while fist bumping his friend.
Three very different boys. Three very different backgrounds. Yet all three share a similar path. Many thrones will block their way to achieving what they want. Some are personal. Created by their doubts or fears. Some will be outside forces that will push them down if they make the wrong step. Question them, if not try to stop them completely. That won't stop them. They'll prove their worth.
"Oh, and by the way, Kai. You think your overhaul quirk can do something about my scars?" Touya asked since he didn't get the answer for that either. It would be nice to get rid of these things and the boy's quirk might be his ticket to do so.
Unfortunately, Kai clicked his tongue with a headshake. "I can rearrange matter. Not create it. Nothing I can do about dead skin. Unless you have a healthy skin doner…then again." An idea popped into his mind. He stared at the boy intensely. Something about that gaze didn't sit well with either of the boys. Then he pounced. Grabbing Touya's hair by the roots he carelessly yanked them closer. Their golden eyes analyse their face. You could see the gears at work in his wicked mind. "Hair and skin are made of similar composition. I've never tried anything like that before. Not sure if the pigment would affect it. But it could be an interesting experiment."
Touya didn't like the fact they tossed in the word 'experiment' so easily. Tenko didn't either. Both of them gave the other a look. One was silently pleading for help. The other asking what the hell have they gotten themselves into.
Kai next line didn't ease either of them. "If you become my guinea pig. I'll let you pay me only 95% of the commission fee." Slowly, he inched his hand closer to the boy's eyes. They itched with the need to know if his hypothesis would be successful.
Not taking any chances, Touya gabbed their hand and pulled it away from him. "You know what I'm good," he concluded. Something screamed at him it wasn't worth the risk. May it be his inner voice or Tenko's eyes. Either way, the scars are here to stay.
"Father!" Izuku circled while running into his father's office. Mini Endver was tightly in his arms. Since they were thinking of cutting Izuku's lesson time, Arata sorting out his new work seclude, Touya was at U.A, and Enji rejected every application for a new babysitter. It was decided that the youngest Todoroki would stay at the Endeavour agency. The sidekicks around know him and could work around him if necessary. That and he already had a classroom dedicated to him at the agency. They just need to renovate it a bit to double as a bedroom and playroom. This was the safest place Izuku could be in.
"What's wrong Izuku?" Enji asked. His son jumped on his lap and hugged him tightly.
"I had a really scary dream." He cried buried his face deeper in his father's uniform. "Brother trapped me in a dark room. No matter how hard I cried he wouldn't let me out."
Sighing, Enji stroked his son's head to calm him down. "Izuku's it's just a dream. Touya would never do that do you." His son nodded in agreement but still looked scared. They wanted to hold onto his father as tight as he could. It didn't last long since his strength weaken. The child let out a great big yawn that made his father chuckle. "You want to sleep more?"
Nodding, Enji took his son back into the room they made. He tucked him into bed and stroked his curled. "Rest well," he whispered before leaving.
Alone, Izuku held his plushie tightly. Once again, the doll was his only friend. Both his brother and Tenko had left him for big boy school. Arata sensei was thinking of going to teach at another school. His father won't let him play cards with those funny men. Or shogi with that nice old man. So that left him with very little things to do. He stared at the room around him. Filled with everything a child could ask for, but it felt oddly empty. In the end, there was no one with him. He cuddled with his plushie tighter. "I'm bored."
