IZUKU POV
"What the hell did I just sign myself up for?"
I had just reached Nighteye's agency. During the train ride here I thought about what kind of experience I was going to have, but nothing in my wildest imagination would have prepared me for this.
Every inch of his office was covered in some form of All Might memorabilia. The walls were plastered with posters. His desk had various figures of All Might in different poses with different costumes. The floor and ceiling were a pair of mosaics of All Might's smile made from ceramic tiles.
"Oh God he's a fan boy."
Surprisingly the most normal thing in the room was an anthropomorphic centipede unstrapping a girl from what I could only assume was some kind of tickle torture machine.
"I think I just found Mama Jokes Christmas present."
I silently laughed to myself before feeling a strong gaze on me.
"You must be Izuku Midoriya."
I turned around to see a tall slim man in a suit looking down on me.
"Yes sir."
"I must say I was surprised to hear you actually accepted my offer." He sat down at his desk crossing his legs.
"In all fairness I was surprised to see an offer from you."
"Yes, Principal Nezu was quite insistent that you had potential. That being said, I don't see it."
"Maybe you need a new prescription?" I quickly bit my tongue hoping that my snide remark wouldn't get me immediately kicked out of my internship.
"Hmm, well I must commend you on your attempt at being humorous. Next time try not to be so lowbrow." He readjusted his glasses.
I looked at him shocked. "That went well… I think."
"Sir who exactly is this?"
"He is Izuku Midoriya and he will be interning with us for the next week."
"Oh well it's nice to meet you." The girl that was previously strapped to the tickle torture machine walked up to me. "My name is Bubble Girl." She stopped for a moment before turning back to Sir Nighteye. "Wait, you never take on interns!"
"Thank you for stating the obvious. Due to certain circumstances I decided to send him an offer that he decided to accept." He turned to his computer. "Bubble girl please show him where he will be sleeping then give him a tour of the facility. Centipeder, we need to discuss the next steps of our patrol routes."
With the introduction to my internship completed I was promoted out of the room. Bubble Girl led me through the hallways. The office was a sight to behold, everything was spotless and looked as if it was new.
"So how many people work in the office?" I tried to start some small talk.
"Four people."
I looked at her astounded. "But the office is huge?"
"Yeah, but it has lodging, conference rooms, a break floor, and training facility."
"I'm sorry did you say break floor?"
She looked at me with a huge smile. "Oh yeah it's awesome! I'll show you it after we go to your room."
"Why do you need an entire break floor for four people?"
"Because we could."
I let out a defeated sigh as we continued down the hallway. The room I was going to be staying in for the week was a surprise. It was more or less a full bedroom, I guess it made sense there was a good chance that other hero's would stay here on team up missions if the distance was too great to travel. After dropping my stuff off she proceeded to show me the rest of the office. The conference rooms were located on the first floor. That seemed pretty standard, I know I wouldn't want people that don't have full clearance wandering around my office. The second floor was the training floor, it had a variety of different forms to train. The third floor was lodging, I still didn't fully understand why they needed an entire floor dedicated to lodging. The fourth floor was the main office where they all worked. The final floor was the break floor that Bubble Girl was so excited about and to be fair it was something to be excited about. The floor was divided up into separate sections depending on what you wanted to do and it even had a full kitchen. Before I got the chance to fully explore the break floor the building's intercom went off.
"Bubble Girl please have Midoriya suit up and bring him to the training floor."
I looked at Bubble Girl who had a nervous look. "I guess my internship has officially begun."
She let out a nervous laugh. "Yeah, well we better not keep Sir waiting."
Ten minutes later I found myself standing in the training room watching Bubble Girl being strapped to what I assumed was a second tickle machine.
"How many of these does he have?"
Apparently ten minutes was too slow for his standards so she was being punished. After he finished strapping her in he turned to me.
"Alright Midoriya, I've seen how you handled yourself during the sports festival. Now it's time for me to see your skills for myself."
I looked at him intrigued. "So I'm going to fight you?"
"No, you're going to fight him." He pointed to a wall.
I looked over at the wall then back at him. "I think you actually may need a new prescription, Sir."
"That was a better attempt, but still needs work. Also there is nothing wrong with my eyes so keep watching."
I shrugged before turning back to the wall. "If you say so.
I stared at the wall for a few minutes before a man suddenly burst through it. "Oh Yeah!"
"Sweet merciful Buddha why the fuck is he naked?"
"Well done Mirio."
I looked over at Sir Nighteye very confused. "Sir, what exactly is going on?"
He walked and stood next to the nudist now identified as Mirio. "This is Mirio Togata, he is doing his hero work study here."
The eccentric blonde turned towards me. "Oh hey I know you! You're that quirkless first year from the sports festival! Man you were awesome out there!"
"I keep forgetting everyone watched the sports festival."
He let out a laugh. "I know right, I was so nervous my first year as well."
I looked at him confused. "Wait, do you go to UA?"
"That's right, I'm part of UA's big three." He gave me a thumbs up.
"Uh huh…" I looked back to Sir Nighteye. "So you want me to fight him?"
"Precisely, I want to see first hand what you can do."
"If you say so." I turned back to Togata.
"It's alright there's no need to be scared little buddy."
I looked at him confused. "Are you talking to me or…"
He started to laugh before getting into a fighting stance. "You're pretty funny, it's no wonder Sir let you stay."
"If you say so." I got into my fighting stance before looking at Sir Nighteye. "Are there any rules for this?"
"Anything is allowed as long as you don't destroy the building or cause serious injury to your opponent."
"Understood."
I reached into one of the pockets on my bet and grabbed a metal cylinder. Pressing a small button on it the cylinder extended into a full bo staff. I had talked to the design shop about it before the sports festival so they had plenty of time to make something so simple. Wielding the staff I changed my stance to better use it.
"I'm not sure what his quirk is but given the fact he came through a wall without damaging it that leaves a few possibilities. One his quirk could let him phase through objects or he can travel through objects. Both of them would be an issue but based on the fact he's naked I'll lean more towards phasing through objects."
I quickly pulled a couple of my throwing knives and threw them so the blunt end would hit him. The spacing of the knives left very little area to dodge with his given physique. The area that I aimed for would definitely cause him to use his quirk and if he didn't… well I'd have to apologize later.
The knives sailed through the air. I kept my eyes locked on them, as they approached him Togata sank into the floor about halfway so they passed over his head.
"Dammit that doesn't give me much. All I know now is that he can control how much of him either phases or passes into objects."
"Woah there that was quite the low blow." He shot back up out of the floor.
"Sorry about that, but I had to do something that would cause you to use your quirk."
"That's pretty smart, since I already know about you it's a good idea to try and get some basic information on your opponent early in a fight." His smile turned to a confident smirk. "I hope you can make this interesting."
Readying myself for the next attack I sent a smirk back at him. "No promises."
I moved towards him, taking a few quick jabs at him. He easily dodged them while keeping his distance. I continued to take quick jabs to keep him from closing any distance. The entire time he kept that goofy smile on his face.
"Well I guess I shouldn't have expected too much, I mean you are just a first year."
Togata once again sunk into the ground. I quickly looked around the room to see where he would reappear. Taking into account I didn't know how his quirk worked I decided to play it safe and be defensive. Reaching into another one of my pouches I grabbed a smoke grenade. The room's immediate area was instantly filled with smoke.
"This should buy me a little time. Even though I can't see in this smoke, the same is true for him. I should have the advantage, if he reapers where he was I'll know he's in my range. He shouldn't be able to dodge what he can't see and if he pops up somewhere else I know he can control where he comes out at."
"Oh a smoke screen, good thinking little buddy."
His voice came from right behind me.
"What the hell, he didn't even make a sound."
I quickly shot my arm and the staff backwards to where his gut would be but I felt no resistance. The smoke slowly faded and much to my surprise I hit had connected… except it didn't. I was looking at my staff going through him and exiting the other side.
"Oh look at that, I've been impaled."
I dropped the staff and dove away from him as he brought his hand back to hit me. I stood back up and looked at him while he laughed.
"Well done, not many people are able to dodge me the first time we fight and even fewer are able to almost land a hit on me." His smirk turned serious. "But now it's time I get serious.
Once again he disappeared into the ground. The moment he started to disappear I went to grab my staff but was cut off by the feeling of someone behind me. I turned while ducking just in time to see Togata as arm fly over my head.
"He's faster than I thought but he's left himself wide open."
Firmly planting my left leg on the ground I used to as a base as I sent a kick straight to his head with my right. I was confident this time I would connect but once again it went through his head. The next thing I saw was his fist coming straight at my face but stopping inches short. Even though he didn't connect the sheer force and presence his punch carried was enough to make my legs give out.
"I think it's fair to say I won this one." He offered me a hand.
Letting out a defeated sigh I took his hand. "Yeah, I couldn't touch you."
As I stood up the door opened up to reveal Centipeder walking in with Togatas clothes. He quickly put them on before Sir Nighteye walked up with Bubble Girl who he had freed from the machine.
"As you can see there is a vast difference in skill between the two of you, that being said you did do better than my expectations. You were able to come up with a few plans rather quick."
"Well I did spend the last year or so more or less having hypothetical situations thrown at me to see how I react."
"Yes and that effort is easy to see, but hypotheticals aren't the same as the real thing." Sir Nigheye narrowed his gaze on me.
"Oh come on Sir I think he did pretty well. If it were anyone besides one of the big three he would have given them a run for their money."
"Maybe so." Sir Nighteye readjusted his glasses. "So what do you think of Midoriya?"
Centipeder didn't answer since he didn't see the fight. Bubble Girl on the other hand was a ball of excitement.
"I thought he did great! I mean even did multiple counter attacks even though he had never seen him fight before!"
"Thank you for the energy, be sure to keep that for meetings as well."
"Y..yes Sir!"
She seemed to be nervous at that statement. I merely shrugged, not giving it a second thought.
"However I did have one question." Bubble Girl looked at me. "You use a lot of support items, does that have anything to do with your quirk?"
I shifted my Gaze to Sir Nighteye. "So you didn't tell them?"
He didn't answer me. Bubble Girl looked at the two of us confused.
"He didn't tell us what?"
I let out a sigh while compressing my bo staff. "I'm quirkless, so I use these items to help me."
"Are you serious! Mirio, did you know about this?" She turned to him completely surprised.
"Yeah, we kind of go to the same school so of course I would have heard about a quirkless first year in the hero course." He gave her a blank expression.
She turned to Centipeder. "What about you?"
"We did watch the sports festival and he was in the final tournament."
She quickly became dejected as she started to sulk. "I guess I was the only one who didn't know."
"Enough of that Bubble Girl, we have work to do." Sir Nighteye started to head towards the door. "Everyon, be in the conference room in ten minutes."
After he left I looked over to Bubble Girl. "Which conference room was he talking about, there were like ten of them."
She looked over at me and started to laugh. "Yeah we should probably get you a copy of the conference room schedule."
I looked at her confused. "There's a schedule?"
I couldn't believe it, the so-called schedule that Bubble Girl gave me was a lie. It was closer to a pamphlet than a schedule. There were twelve different conference rooms and each one was used depending on the circumstances. He couldn't keep it simple and say each one would be used on a different day. No, the conference room depended not only on the day, but also the time, weather, season, and number of people. That wasn't even the craziest part apparently everyone had this memorized for every situation. Ten minutes later after reading through the "schedule" I found myself sitting around a table with the rest of the agency.
"Alright today we're going to discuss our actions for the week."
A projector turned on showing a slide show as Sir Nighteye continued.
"With Midoriya here we will be able to cover more areas in our patrol. Bubble Girl, he will be shadowing you for the next couple days. Make sure you show him all the ins and outs as to how we work."
"Sir!"
He turned back to the screen as a new slide came up.
"The two of you will be doing normal patrols but keep your ears open for anything related to drug handling."
"I'm sorry Sir, but I just want to clarify. Are we talking about quirk enhancing drugs or recreational drugs?"
Sir Nighteye turned to me. "Both if possible but specifically any that have an effect on quirks. Lately rumors have been spreading of a certain Yakuza group that is dabbling in the matter. As of now we're just investigating the possibility so don't do anything that would draw attention to us."
He took a deep breath before going to the next slide.
"Centipeder and Mirio will be doing patrols in Hosu City for the next week. I've already cleared it with the Principal so you don't need to worry about that."
"Alright, but Sir, that's pretty far from us. Is there any specific reason why?"
"The Hero Killer Stain." Sir Nighteye switched to the next slide that showed a man carrying a plethora of blades. "He was last seen in Hosu City and if his pattern continues to stay true he still has a few more victims there before he moves on."
"So you would like us to patrol the area looking for any signs of him?" Centipeder asked while sliding a file one the Hero Killer to Mirio.
"Exactly, keep a low profile. He doesn't enjoy making a scene while he's killing so keep your eyes on alleyways in secluded parts of town. That should give you the best chance of finding him. You two will be heading out tomorrow morning. I've already made accommodations for you two so you'll be stationed there the entire time."
"Alright Sir, you can count on us." Mirio gave him a thumbs up.
"Excellent, now there are a few things you two should be on the lookout for. First it's suspected that the Hero Killer is working with the League of Villains. As of now there is no concrete evidence but it's something to keep in mind. The second thing is that the Hero Killers quirk is related to blood. We don't know exactly what it is so you two need to stay alert at all times."
Both them gave him an understanding nod. The news that the Hero Killer was potentially involved with the League of Villains sent a chill down my spine. If he had been a part of the USJ attack things would have been a lot worse. It would have been in the realm of possibility that most of us could have died.
"Midoriya if I remember correctly your class was the one attacked by the League of Villains while at the USJ, is that correct?" Sir Nighteye looked at me.
Both Bubble Girl and Centipeder turned to me shocked, while Mirio seemed expressionless.
"Yes Sir, but in all honesty the majority of them were petty criminals and third-rate villains who thought they could overwhelm us with numbers. There were only a couple that seemed to be of any real threat."
"Interesting, I read the report and it stated that you were the one that gave the orders for a classmate to go get help when you noticed communications were blocked. You also faced off against a man who has been identified as Tomura Shigaraki, who is their apparent leader. Since you've personally dealt with them, could you tell us what you think?"
"Sure, like I said before there were only a few that I would have considered a serious threat. I believe the fact that a group of first years made it out of a surprise attack in the first couple weeks of school is proof enough that they went into it thinking strength in numbers. The ones I would be on the lookout for are Shigaraki and Kurogiri. Kurogiri is easy to identify since he's a body cloaked in a purple and black mist. I don't think he has much offensive abilities but his quirk allows his mist to create warp points. I don't know the specifics but I think it's safe to assume if he knows the location of a place he can warp people to and from places instantaneously. The one that can do major damage is Shigaraki. Don't let his look fool you, he's unnaturally quick and his quirk is deadly. Anything he touches turns to dust, but based on his mannerisms he needs all five fingers to make contact with the same object. So you should be on the lookout for his left hand… unless he somehow regrew his thumb."
The three of them looked at me with a confused expression after my last statement. Bubble Girl let out a sigh. "Alright I'll bite, why would he need to regrow a thumb?"
I pointed to the scar on my face. "How do you think I got this scar?"
A gasp came from Bubble Girl, while Centipeder and Mirio looked shocked. Even Sir Nighteye seemed impressed.
"Before Shigaraki and Kurogiri escaped he tried to kill me for harming his Nomu. They opened a portal behind me and the next thing I knew his hand was on my face. If it wasn't for Mr. Aizawa's quirk, I'd be dead. He stayed conscious just long enough for me to cut off his thumb. Unfortunately his hand was already on me so I had to make sure it went all the way through."
Mirio put his arm around me. "Dang little buddy you're pretty tough to be able to go through with that."
I let out a nervous laugh and mumbled under my breath. "If only you knew."
Mirio gave me a confused look before Sir Nighteye cleared his throat. "Is there any other information that may be helpful for us?"
"Yeah, be careful of the Nomu creature."
They all looked at me confused. "The report stated that the Nomu was captured with little to no resistance."
"Maybe so, but you didn't see what it did. It treated Mr. Aizawa like he was a rag doll and snapped his bones like twigs. Sure it was captured easily but that was after Shigaraki left."
Sir Nighteye narrowed his gaze. "What exactly saying?"
"Based on what I observed and what Mr. Aizawa told me, the creature didn't attack until it was given an order. Something tells me that if it had been told to kill everyone there is a pretty good chance most of us would have died."
"I see, but still with the Nomu locked away there should be nothing to worry about." Mirio looked at me with a smile.
"No, that thing was created so I'd say there's a chance they have more."
"And what makes you think that?" Centipeder looked to me.
"Besides it's appearance?" I looked at him slightly annoyed. "After the incident my girlfrien-"
Bubble Girl interrupted with a high pitch squeal. "Midoriya you have a girlfriend!?"
Everyone looked at her confused causing her to sink into her chair embarrassed. Sir Nighteye cleared his throat. "Thank you for the well timed comedic relief, but we need to continue."
Sir Nighteye motioned for me to continue. "So as I was saying we went to talk to the Principal about the incident. Apparently he was still talking with the detective working the case. They of course gave us the run around by telling us that there was nothing to worry about and that the Nomu was just someone who had taken too many quirk enhancing drugs."
"As interesting as that is, how does that prove that they created the Nomu?"
"Because everything they told us was a lie. The reason I brought my Girlfriend was because she can tell when people are lying."
Sir Nighteye narrowed his eyes on me again. "So this theory of yours is all based on the fact that your friend told you they were lying? You can't be serious."
"I am." I matched his eyes. "Her quirk enhances her hearing, because of that she is able to pick up on any change of breathing, heartbeat, and speech. When it comes to reading people I trust her fully." I took a deep breath noticing that not everyone was convinced. "I know that it's not hard proof, but I think it's enough to say it's in the realm of possibility."
Sir Nighteye kept his eyes locked on me for a few moments. "Midoriya, do you remember the name of the detective?"
I looked at him confused before leaning back into my chair. "I think it was Tsukauchi or something like that. He seemed to be close to the Principal."
Sir Nigheye seemed to be taken back by that before quickly regaining his composure. "Alright Centipeder, Mirio while in Hosu be on high alert. Until we have further information we are going to be going off what Midoriya has told us. The two of you will leave for Hosu tomorrow morning so spend the rest of the night preparing. Bubble Girl and Midoriya will start their patrols tomorrow. That is all for the day."
Bubble Girl, Centipeder, and Mirio all made their way out of the room. I was last to leave but I stopped before leaving.
"Sir, I have a question."
Sir Nighteye turned to me. "What is it? I have a lot to do."
"There's not really an easy way to say this, but are you sending them to Hosu because of the talk you had with Principal Nezu?"
He turned to me with an eye raised. "What would give you that idea?"
"With all due respect Sir I know you sent an offer to me to give up on being a hero. Knowing how Nezu thinks I'm almost positive he said something along the lines of ``I'll let you try and sway the mind of one of our promising future hero's but you need to send a team to patrol Hosu for the week."
Sir Nighteye turned away from me. "That's an interesting theory Midoiya, now try and humor me. Let's say that is what happened. How would you feel knowing Nezu more or less sold you out?"
"I would be grateful."
He turned back to me surprised. "Why?"
"The hero Ingeniums little brother is a… an acquaintance of mine. After what happened to his brother he chose to do his internship in Hosu. I'm certain he did that because he wants to personally take down the Hero Killer. The fact that me choosing here means improved odds of him not doing something stupid is worth it."
Sir laughed to himself momentarily. "So you willingly chose to throw yourself into the lion's den on the theory that Nezu and I had some deal in the background?"
I looked at him confused. "Yeah, this was a once in a lifetime opportunity. Why wouldn't I take it? Even though I knew you did this to get me to quit I figured I'd pick up a few tricks along the way. Besides I'm used to everyone telling me to give up so I was more than happy to put one more persons opinion in the fuck it bucket."
Sir Nighteye stood up and made his way to the door. "I see, well this is going to be a long week for you then. I recommend using this time of rest properly. Feel free to use the kitchen on the break floor. Just make sure to clean up after yourself. The only thing I hate more than a person with no sense of humor is a slob."
After my talk with Sir Nigheye I went back to my room to shower and change into some athletic shorts, a tank top, and one of my ever dwindling number of hoodies. Once I was done changing I made my way up to the break floor. There was no one around so I decided to put in my headphones and cook. While cooking my phone started to ring, a small smile spread across my face as I saw who it was.
"Hey Kyoka, how did your first day go?"
She let out an exhausted sigh. "My whole body aches, he spent the entire day sparing to see what I could and couldn't do. Then after that we went on a patrol."
I couldn't help but laugh. "Sounds like you had a fun day."
Her voice turned annoyed. "It was really fun."
"If it makes you feel any better I'll give you a massage when we get back."
"Hmmm I think I may have to take you up on that." She started to laugh a little. "How did your day go?"
"It was interesting to say the least. After meeting everyone I got a tour of the facility then I fought a naked guy. Then we had a meeting about the plan for the week and I even had to give a report during the meeting. That ended about an hour ago so I showered and changed, now I'm just cooking. I'd say it was a fairly average day."
Kyoka didn't answer for a minute. "How is fighting a naked guy an average day for you?"
A smirk spread across my face. "I mean it's an average day for you."
"Oooo is someone talking to their girlfriend?"
I jumped as I heard a voice pop up behind me. "Jesus fuck Bubble Girl I thought you went home for the day."
"Nah I live here. The rent is cheap and there's no commute to work." She leaned on the counter with a smile.
"Izuku what's going on?" She was starting to get annoyed.
"Sorry Kyoka, one of the sidekicks snuck up on me."
"So it is your girlfriend. Tell her I said hi! No wait, get her on FaceTime! I want to say hi!"
I let out a sigh. "You heard all that right?"
"It's kind of hard not to when you're all ears."
I chuckled at her response. "Is that your favorite line?"
"Maybe."
"Whatever, so do you want to or not?"
She didn't answer at first. "Well I kind of just got out of the shower…"
"Ah I see." I turned to Bubble Girl. "Sorry not this time, she just got out of the shower."
A smirk spread across her face. "Aww is someone scared to see their girlfriend naked?"
I shot a glare at her. "No, I'm scared of you seeing her naked."
"Why, I'm a girl too?"
"Because you'd probably try and drag her into your BDSM cult."
"What are you talking about? I'm not in a BDSM cult."
I stopped and looked at her confused. "Wait… why did you put emphasis on the word cult?"
"I'm sorry, who's in a what now?"
"I have no idea what you're talking about. You're just trying to get away from the topic of being too scared to see her naked." She crossed her arms as she looked away from me.
"I'm not scared to see her naked! We literally fucked last night."
"The hell we did! Izuku what the fuck are you even talking about? I mean sure there was that time when you and Yaomomo were teasing me, then there were the pictures, and also the time Uraraka walked in on me straddling you while you had my jack in your mouth. But we haven't gone… that far yet."
"You what? How can you say that so casually you're fifteen?" She was a mixture of shocked and flustered.
"Like that matters, teenagers are giant balls of hormones. You stick twenty of them in a dorm together, something's bound to happen."
She didn't know how to reply. Bubble Girl just looked at me shocked before her eyes went wide. "Uh Midoriya, your food is on fire."
I turned around nearly in tears as I put out the fire revealing a burnt sandwich. "Not my sandwich, it was innocent."
"Izuku… are you crying?"
"Shh… I must grieve."
"How did you even manage to catch a sandwich on fire in the first place?"
