IZUKU POV
The first couple days of my internship were interesting to say the least. After having a moment of silence for my sandwich Kyoka decided to get on FaceTime to clear everything up. Bubble Girl proceeded to tease me again about lying until Kyoka told her that we decided to hold off on going for home plate until the moment was right. I personally didn't remember having that conversation but, it got Bubble Girl to drop the subject so I wasn't complaining.
The rest of the night was spent getting to know each other better. Unfortunately Kyoka did have to go early because of how tired she was from her day. Once it was just Bubble Girl and myself we decided to go over our route for the next day. Towards the end of your night we both realized I never told her my hero name. As much as I enjoyed my name I was already getting tired of having to explain it… and this was only the second time.
The next morning started early. The first half of the day I was more or less Bubble Girls secretary. Helping sort and file paperwork doesn't exactly screen hero training but I guess it is part of the job. Thankfully Sir Nighteye was extremely organized so it made the process go by fast. Once all of the paperwork was done we went out to do our patrol. It was a weird feeling at first walking around the public in my hero costume, but after half an hour I no longer even realized it. Patrolling seemed to be fairly simple, all we really had to do was walk around the city and stop any crimes we saw. Thankfully the majority of people had common sense and didn't try to commit crimes while heros patrolling. That being said, there were a few geniuses that thought it would be a good idea to try and snatch wallets and purses. Stopping a few petty criminals did make the time go by faster.
After our patrol I had to spar with Bubble Girl. Much to my surprise she was better than I expected her to be. Also I didn't realize how much a bubble popping in your eyes would sting. The worst part was somehow the bubble residue got stuck behind my contacts and to pour salt onto that wound it just so happened to be a bubble that smelt like an old sock. Having to deal with that smell for the remainder of the day and pretend everything was fine was a test of endurance that I wasn't expecting.
Thankfully the day came to an end and I was able to relax and deep clean the contacts hoping to get any bubble residue out. Once I was finished I fell face first into the pillows on my bed. Honestly nothing felt better than falling into bed after a long day. As I laid there contemplating it I should clean my contacts again, my phone went off.
"Hello?" I spoke into my pillows so my voice was muffled.
"Sounds like someone had a rough day." A small laugh came from the other line.
I turned over so I was facing the ceiling. "It wasn't that bad, just long."
"Oh yeah, tell me about it."
"I spent the morning doing paperwork and then we went on patrol. We stopped a few dumbasses that thought it would be a good idea to try and snatch people's wallets and purses. After that I soared with Bubble Girl and got some of her bubble residue stuck behind my contacts."
Another laugh came from the other line. "Wow that stinks."
A chill ran down my spine as I looked to the bathroom where the contacts were located. "You have no clue, so how did your second day go Kyoka?"
"Oh you no nothing too big, I just helped out with a hostage situation." I could almost hear her smirk.
"Oh really, let me guess they left you at the office to watch the phones."
"Oh fuck you Izuku, I was a key part in navigating the building and locating the hostage and villains positions."
I laughed and she shortly after started laughing with me. It was the small moments like these that I enjoyed the most with her.
"So you earned yourself some hero street cred then."
"Hell yeah I did! But something didn't sit right with me."
"What's that?"
"It was the group that committed the crime. They didn't seem to have a plan and they weren't anything special. As they were being taken away one of them was saying something about having to save the boss."
I raised an eye. "Saving the boss?"
"Yeah, after I mentioned it to Death Arms and he said that the group was apparently some Yakuza members."
My interest had been peaked further. "Hey Kyoka, what exactly were they after?"
She paused for a moment. "I'm not really sure, they were trying to rob a medical distribution facility."
I didn't answer her as I grabbed my laptop from the desk. One quick search of recent hostage situations later and I found the incident I was looking for. There wasn't much information about what had happened but it was enough to warrant suspicion.
"Is everything alright Izuku?" Her voice was worried.
"Yeah everything's fine, I was just thinking."
I could hear the soft tapping of her jacks over the phone. "You sure Izuku?"
I heard a knock come from my door. "Midoriya it's time for the nightly briefing."
I covered my phone. "Alright I'll be right there." Putting my phone back to my ear I grabbed my laptop. "Hey Kyoka I gotta go, I'll text you later."
She didn't answer at first. "Alright, be careful out there."
I laughed a little while putting on the accessories to my hero costume. "I will be, I love you Kyoka."
"You what?"
I quickly hung up my phone while I headed out the door to see Bubble Girl who was standing outside with a smirk. "Do you love her?"
I let out a sigh as we walked to the meeting room. "Of course I do, she is my girlfriend."
"Ah young love, how romantic." She pretended to swoon.
I did my best to ignore her as we went through the halls, but I couldn't get one thing off my mind. "Holy shit, did I actually just say that?"
The briefing went smoothly. It started out with Sir Nighteye giving a report about leads he had been pursuing during the day. Much to my surprise he didn't mention the hostage situation. After his report Centipeder gave a rundown on what they had witnessed in Hosu. He was currently taking his break while Mirio was out patrolling. When it came to our turn Bubble Girl reported on everything we had done today. All in all it seemed that not much happened today. Sir Nighteye seemed to be pleased that everything went smoothly and that there were no major incidents.
"Alright, that will do for tonight's debriefing. We will be meeting at the same time tomorrow." As Sir Nighteye was about to stand up I decided to interject.
"Actually Sir there is something I wanted to add."
He narrowed his eyes on me before letting out a sigh. "This better be important Midoriya."
I pulled out my laptop and set it infront of him. "Yesterday you mentioned for us to keep an ear open for any mention of drug handling. Today there was a hostage situation at a medical distribution center. According to the reports I found and a statement from someone who was working the scene, the villains who were involved were Yakuza members. I know it's not much and doesn't necessarily relate to drug handling, but I still thought it would be best to report it."
Sir Nighteye continued to read over the report before looking back to me. "This report says that they are assumed to be Yakuza members."
"Yes, but I still think it may be worth looking into. With the rumors of a Yakuza group working with drugs and then a group of suspected Yakuza members being involved in a hostage situation at a medics distribution center, the two seem like they could be related. Also while they were being taken away they said something about having to save the boss."
"Don't you think you're reaching? Just because the two seem related doesn't mean they are." He closed his laptop and slid it back towards me. "I understand you want to prove yourself, but don't go looking for things where there is no base."
I had to bite my tongue while putting my laptop away. "Yes Sir."
"That being said, I will look into it further."
I looked at him surprised. "Sir?"
"Just because I said there was no base doesn't mean there isn't one. There have also been a few rumors going around about that Yakuza group having a new head. So there is a possibility that the two are related."
A small smile spread across my face as I put my laptop away. "Thank you Sir."
Sir Nighteye looked at Bubble Girl and myself. "If there is nothing more I will see you all tomorrow."
With nothing else being left to say our nightly debrief came to an end. Much to my surprise the night had ended smoothly. It was satisfying to know that I gave some form of potentially useful information.
The next day was more of the same. The morning was once again filled with paperwork. There wasn't as much as yesterday, but still enough to last us till the afternoon. When it was time for Bubble Girl and I to go on patrol Sir Nighteye left to go talk with the Yakuza members that had been arrested. I still don't understand how he was able to get the ok to speak with them so quickly, but I guess when you're All Might's former sidekick you make a few connections.
Once again nothing interesting happened on our patrol. Even though it's a sign that things are peaceful it doesn't help me gain any real experience. Once we returned to the office Bubble Girl and I spared some more. Thankfully this time I didn't take any bubbles to the eye and I was even able to win a few more rounds than yesterday. The feeling of improving from the day before left me feeling accomplished. When we had finished our sparring, it was time to relax for the night.
"You did a lot better today Midoriya." Bubble Girl sat on the couch that was next to me as she drank some of her water.
"Thanks, I still thought I'd do better."
She looked at me slightly annoyed. "Seriously, you're still a first year student. Did you honestly think you'd be out doing us pros?"
"Outdoing no, keeping up with yes."
She gave me a deadpan look. "You're insane."
I laughed as I scratched the back of my head. "I've gotten that one a few times."
She let out a sigh while sinking into the couch and turning on the tv. "Sir's out pretty late tonight, I wonder if everything is alright?"
I looked at her before looking back at my phone. "He runs a pretty tight ship doesn't he."
"Yeah, but once you get past that tough exterior of his he's one of the nicest people you'll ever meet."
I looked up to her with disbelief. "If that's the case why does he strap you to that machine all the time?"
"Oh that's nothing."
I felt my jaw drop as I struck with shock. "Oh my God you love when that happens don't you?"
She jumped in her spot before turning to me. "Wh… what are you ta.. talking about? I.. I hate th.. th… that thing."
Before I could continue to push the new found advantage an emergency alert came on the TV. On the screen was Hosu City set ablaze. It was an apparent attack by the League of Villains. Bubble Girl and I couldn't do anything but look on in shock of what was happening. The ringing of her phone broke us from our state of shock. She answered, putting the phone on speaker.
"Sir, are you seeing this as well?"
"Yes, however I'm still stuck at the station dealing with interrogations."
"Alright, Midoriya and I will be heading out now."
"No, you two stay at the office and wait for me to return."
We both got up and started to head to the elevator. But we came to a stop after Bubble Girl was given a surprising order.
"What do you mean Sir? Centipeder and Mirio are both in Hosu right now."
"Exactly, I know the two of them can handle this. Have faith in the people you work with, besides Endeavor is already on the scene."
"But Sir the League of Villains is suspected to be behind this attack! What if they do have more of those Nomu things?"
A sigh was heard over the phone."Yes, well it turns out Midoriya's theory on that was correct."
Bubble Girl and I looked at each other before looking back to the phone.
"Sir, that's even more reason for us to go!"
"How do you plan on getting there? All the trains running to Hosu are shut down and we are hours away by car."
Bubble Girl was clearly doing her best to hold back from telling off Sir Nighteye. "But Sir-"
"I have given you your orders, I will be back shortly and we will move forward from there."
Bubble Girl took a deep breath before answering. "Yes Sir, Midoriya and I will monitor the situation and wait for your return."
"Good, please locate any information on Hosu's heros, layout, and economical draws and have them ready for when I return."
"Yes Sir."
With that he hung up, Bubble Girl took a moment to gather her thoughts before taking off towards the Elevator again. Once we were in the elevator Bubble Girl finally spoke again.
"Midoriya, you've seen what the Nomu can do…do you think they can handle it?"
I looked down while thinking. "As long as they don't let them get a hold on them they should be fine. Besides, if Endeavors there then they have nothing to worry about."
Bubble Girl seemed to cheer up from that as the elevator opened up.
"Alright Midoriya get ready and meet me in the office, it's gonna be a long night."
I nodded to her as I went into my room to change back into my hero's costume. Finally something exciting was happening, but I felt bad about lying to Bubble Girl. Truth be told I wasn't sure what would happen. The Hero Killer was one thing but a full on assault by the League of Villains with a Nomu was like comparing apples to watermelons. Yes they were both fruit but one was definitely more deadly when launched at your head. Shaking the thoughts from my head I raced back to the elevator to start working.
After an hour of nonstop information gathering Sir Nighteye returned to the office.
"Alright, people talk to me, what are we looking like?" He walked in and rested his hands on his desk looking at the TV covering the incident.
"Sir it seems that the situation has been kept from exploding into the neighboring cities. Actually everything seems to be focused in Central Hosu." Bubble Girl placed a map of the city in front of him marking the locations that were under attack.
"Good it seems the hero's there are able to keep the situation under control until more backup arrives. Did we find any reasons for them to attack Hosu?"
"No Sir." I brought him a report that listed any major economical or historic sites that could be in Hosu. "As of now the only plausible reasons we are able to find are the potential connections to Stain or just causing panic to cause panic."
Sir Nighteye looked over my report before looking at me. "What does this potential fall out mean?"
"That's just a working theory based off of Stains usual way of operations."
He looked at me and then back to the report. "As of now we won't rule that out. Do you have any information gathered to back it up?"
"Yes Sir." I went over to one of the desks and found a file that had all of Stains previous attacks. "Well as we stated before he doesn't make a scene so why make such a big show out of nowhere, it just doesn't make sense. There's also the issue of their goals."
Sir looked at me confused. "Goals?"
"Yes Sir, the victims that survived Stains attacks stayed that Stain let them live and that All Might was the only person who was worthy to be deemed a true hero. While the League of Villains want to kill All Might. The two have completely different goals they want to achieve so there is no way they would be able to work together peacefully."
Sir Nighteye continued to read over the report. "I see, so you think this could be some form of interference by the League to get Stain caught?"
"Not necessarily, I think it's more of a power move and an idiotic one at that. What could they possibly gain by doing this? They would have been in a much better position if they held their cards and regrouped instead of showing us they have more Nomus."
Sir stopped to think before turning to Bubble Girl. "Have you been able to find any information on the Nomus this time?"
"Yes Sir, there were three Nomus this time." She handed him some screenshots that were taken by the news and bystanders.
"Anemoia, do these look the same as the one you fought?"
"No Sir, besides being a different color their entire physique is much smaller. While I'm sure they still have incredible strength I think it's safe to say they aren't on the same level as the one at the USJ attack. They also appear to have different quirks and if that's the case that could mean serious problems in the long term."
Sir Nighteye sat in silence for a few minutes looking over everything we had compiled while he was gone. Before he was able to give us our next order Bubble Girl spoke up.
"Sir we have an incoming call from Centipeder and Lemillion."
"Put it on screen now!"
On the TV a video call came through of Mirio in some back alleyway.
"Sir we have captured Stain and he is currently restrained by Centipeder."
"Good, what's the rest of the situation like there?"
"We're currently waiting on the paramedics for two injuries. The pro hero Native was Stains' target but it was interrupted by a student doing an internship going by the name Ingenium. Thankfully no one is in critical condition."
I mentally facepalmed. I couldn't believe Iida was actually dumb enough to try and take on Stain himself.
For the first time since I started my internship Sir Nighteye smiled. "Great work you two. Now what's the situation like regarding the Nomu attack?"
"Endeavor has handled it and now they are just working on putting out the fires."
"Alright, keep us updated we will be heading towards our shortly to meet you."
With a salute Mirio ended the call. Sir let out a sigh before standing straight up. "Alright you two we're heading out. Even though the situation has been resolved there is still work to be done."
I looked at him stunned. "You're taking me as well Sir?"
He shot a glare towards me. "Do you really think I'd trust you here by yourself after you almost burnt the building down by catching a sandwich on fire?"
I looked down, dejected. "No Sir."
He let out a sigh. "Look there is a lot to be done and I'm sure there is someone that could use a helping hand from you at the moment."
I looked back up and adjusted my collar with an understanding nod. The three of us then left for Hosu City. The drive to Hosu was quiet one but it gave me time to think. It probably would have been better for me to try and get some rest. I more than likely wouldn't be sleeping till the next night, but I felt it would be best to think of what to say to Iida.
By the time we arrived in Hosu City all the fires had been put out and everyone had already been evacuated to a safe area. Thankfully everything had been centralized and there were no casualties. The first stop we made was the police station where we met up with Mirio and Centipeder. The two of them had already handed Stain over to the police. He was currently being held in solitary confinement waiting to be transported to Tartarus.
We waited at the station until Stain was transported to Tartarus. After he was gone Sir Nighteye sent Mirio and Centipeder to the hospital to be looked over, he allowed me to go with them to check on my classmate. Much to my surprise not only was Iida in good spirits, but Todoroki was with him. Apparently Todoroki had chosen to do his internship with his dad. Todoroki had talked Iida down not long before I had arrived and helped him realize that mindless revenge is stupid. I was honestly glad that Todoroki handled the situation because I really had no clue what to say to him. The three of us decided to take some time to talk about our internships while I waited for Mirio and Centipeder. Not to anyone's surprise the most exciting thing was this night for all of us.
Once Centipeder and Mirio had been examined and given the green light to leave it was time for all of us to head back to the office. To no one's surprise Bubble Girl, Mirio, and myself all fell asleep on the way back. We all knew that it was the only rest we would be getting until tonight.
Back at the office we all jumped back into full swing. Centipeder and Mirio stayed back to do paperwork with Sir Nighteye while also giving another report on what had happened in Hosu. Bubble Girl and myself once again went on our usual patrol route. This time both of us were thankful that nothing happened, since we both were starting to run low on energy. When we arrived back at the office it was time for the usual sparring sessions with Bubble Girl, today was different though. This time I was going to spar with Mirio again. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't wanting a rematch with him, but at the same time I had a sneaking suspicion I was going to get my ass handed to me.
Two hours later I was lying on the floor in a puddle of my own sweat. That had been the longest ass kicking I'd received since my training with Pops and to make matters worse I couldn't land a single hit on him. Thankfully Sir let us call it a day after that so we could rest up before the last day of the internship.
The final day of the internship was a half day so to speak. Instead of doing paperwork in the morning Mirio and I went on patrol. Honestly he was a pretty cool guy and was surprisingly eager to offer advice and words of encouragement. He really was a light in the dark. When our final patrol came to an end I was very much surprised to see what was waiting for me at the office.
Sir Nighteye was waiting for us in the main lobby and he had his usual resting scowl on his face.
"Midoriya, Mirio, please come with me."
The three of us made our way to the elevator. Mirio and myself were confused as to what was going on. We took the elevator two the training floor where we found Centipeder and Bubble Girl waiting for us.
"So what exactly is going on here?"
Sir Nighteye turned around and walked up to me placing a hand on my shoulder. "Your week-long internship comes to an end today and I must say you did better than I expected you to do. I would potentially go as far to say that you were even helpful at times."
I looked at his eyes that seemed to pierce through me. "Why do I have a bad feeling about this?"
"That being said I still think UA is making a mistake allowing you to be in the Hero Course."
"But Sir Midoriya was a huge help and he even gave us helpful information on the League of Villains!"
Sir turned to Bubble Girl. "The information didn't help us at all. Mirio and Centipeder weren't attacked by any Nomus nor the League of Villains. As for the potential Yakuza lead that would have been found the next day easily."
"But Sir, he's just a first year." Mirio put his arm around me. "Cut him some slack, remember how bad I was last year?"
"He's right, Mirio did cause a lot of issues when he first arrived."
Sir Nighteye looked at all three of them before landing his sights on me. "Well Midoriya, what do you think?"
I matched his gaze. "I think you could have tried harder. I mean you hardly did anything with me this week besides belittle my ideas during the nightly briefings."
The three of them looked between us confused before Bubble Girl spoke up. "What exactly is going on?"
Sir Nighteye and I locked eyes and he gestured for me to continue.
"Long story short the only reason I was offered an internship was so he could try and convince me that I didn't have what it takes to be a hero."
Mirio looked at Sir Nighteye shocked. "Sir did you really do that and you came here knowing that?"
"Yes, I don't have anything against the quirkless, I just don't think they have what it takes to be heroes."
Mirio had a mixture of emotions on his face while Bubble Girl and Centipeder looked shocked. All I could do was laugh at the situation and the awkward tension in the air.
Sir Nighteye turned his gaze towards me. "I'll admit I miscalculated the situation. That being said, the attack in Hosu and the follow ups on the Yakuza members did throw a wrench into my plan."
I looked at him curiously. "And what was that?"
I smirk spread across his face momentarily. "I planned to be the one to fight you starting the third day. My quirk doesn't improve my physical abilities nor does it allow me to control anything so in theory it would be an even match."
"Except for the years of experience under your belt." I rolled my eyes at him.
"Yes because every villain you fight will be of the same skill as you."
"Dammit he made me look like Kaminari." I gritted my teeth as I kept my eyes locked with his. "Still, how do you think that would have made me give up?"
He narrowed his eyes. "While there is no way to be certain that it would have worked out that way, but based on your history I think there would be a good chance that you would have caved."
I was taken back by this momentarily, but I didn't back down. "So you really looked into my past?"
"Any good employer looks into potential employees' history and I must say you have quite the history." His eyes turned cold as he looked down on me. "A father who walked out on you, average grades, a mother who was placed in a mental rehabilitation center, years of therapy, disappearing for over a year to suddenly reappear for the UA entrance exams, and to top it off a certain medical document that sh-"
"Shut up!" All eyes turned to me as I tried to calm myself down. "So what? You think you know what I can and can't do just based on something you've read?"
Sir Nigteye stepped to me so we were face to face. "I know enough to know you don't have what it takes. You may have been able to step in a few crisis scenarios, but you lack the spine to survive in this industry. You can't accept what you've been given so you won't make it as a hero. Your internship is over. You can gather your things and leave now." He made his way past me and exited the room.
The ones that were left just stood there in a stunned silence. Before any of them could say anything I left the room heading to gather my stuff. He really caught me off guard with all that and the fact that he knew the truth the entire time pissed me off. While packing the last of my things a head popped through the wall.
"Well that sure was awkward."
I turned around to see Mirios' head before turning back to my bags. "What do you want?"
"What, am I not allowed to check in on my new little buddy?"
I sighed in annoyance. "No, but normal people would knock instead of just popping in."
He blinked at me blankly. "Yeah, but I'm not normal."
I laughed to myself while grabbing my bag and starting towards the door. "That's true." I stopped before grabbing the doorknob. "Look Mirio, do me a favor and just forget everything that went down today."
His head followed me as I left the room. "Sure no problem, but I don't understand why?"
The two of us started towards the elevator. "People's opinion of others can change when they find out their history. I've had one hell of one and the last thing I want is people's pity."
He continued to look at me confused. "Yeah, I guess people are pretty dumb most of the time. But don't you worry, I think it's awesome you overcame all that."
I looked up at him and laughed to myself. "I guess you're right, it is pretty awesome."
When the two of us made it to the main lobby we found Bubble Girl and Centipeder waiting there. When they saw us Bubble Girl immediately tried to apologize.
"Midoriya about Si-"
I put my hand up to stop her. "It's fine, it's not the first time I've gotten something like that, and I promise you it won't won't be the last time."
Bubble Girls expression turned to a smile. "Well if that's the case do your best and come visit sometime."
I gave her a smile as I made my way out the door. "Sure, it would be fun, plus Sir would hate it." I looked up to the top floor windows, I could see the faint silhouette of Sir Nighteye standing in the window watching me leave. "Well I'll see you around."
The three of them sent me off and waved goodbye before Bubble Girl had to get one last word in.
"Hey lover boy, tell that girlfriend of yours hi for me."
I rolled my eyes before turning back around to them and shouting. "Go to Hell!"
The two of us just stared at each other before breaking into laughter. I continued on my way to the train station when a chill ran down my spine. The realization that I had been ignoring Kyoka since the second day of our internships. Looking at my phone I saw a plethora of calls and texts from her that ranged from a simple Hey to what looked like death threats. Putting my phone back in my pocket I laughed to myself.
"Well she's already mad, another hour or so couldn't make it too much worse. Besides, one angry girl I could handle."
My phone went off again. Sighing I pulled it out expecting it to be a text from Mama Joke, but to my surprise it wasn't.
Yaomomo: "Izuku Midoriya, when we get back to the dorms you and I are going to have a very long talk about how Uwabami would be a perfect fit for me and how she could teach me a lot."
I started to laugh to myself again as I put my phone back in my pocket. "I guess I have two handle two angry girls now."
A/N: Alright sorry this chapter has taken so much longer to get out. Apparently people are surprised that working at a hospital for three years straight drains you physically, mentally, and affects the amount of time you have to do things that aren't work related. Also apparently people are even more surprised that hospitals are swamped with patients even though we're still dealing with a pandemic. Everyone please be safe and continue to social distance, I don't care if you're vaccinated or not. Don't be dumb and think vaccine means immunity. Does it decrease the chances of getting it exponentially? Yes. But so does stretching before running help prevent pulling a muscle but shit happens. All that aside, be smart and safe. Also I've been debating making an instagram account for my Wattpad/FanFicton Account. This would just be an easier way to keep everyone updated as to what is going on and even communicate with everyone. Also those of you that are blessed with artistic talent could do fanart if you felt inclined and I would be more than happy to show it off. Well with all that said I hope you all enjoyed the chapter and let me know in the comments if you would like the instagram page.
