IZUKU POV
"Alright, I know we just got back from the training camp, but that doesn't mean we have time to rest."
Pops had gathered the entire 1-A class in the common area to tell us the plan's for the remainder of the summer break.
"But Mr. Aizawa, what about summer break?" Mina asked, annoyed.
"Look, this won't take all of your free time. We'll spend a few hours every morning training during the week. The weekends will be all yours."
Kirishima raised his hand. "Sir, why exactly are we spending so much time training during summer break?"
"Provisional licenses." The class began to chat amongst themselves. Pops cleared his throat to get everyone back on track. "Twice a year the Public Safety Commission holds a test that allows anyone an opportunity to get their provisional license. Practically every school in Japan waits till the second year to allow students to take the test. That's where UA is different, we allow you to take it as first years. We have a month till the first test of the year. That's why we're pushing so hard on training even during breaks."
"I see, the extra training is to help balance the difference in experience between us and the other students." Iida readjusted his glasses as he pondered the situation.
"Exactly, that being said all work and no play is detrimental to your progress. That's why it will only be in the mornings during the week."
"Do you really think that will be enough Mr. Aizawa?" Yaomomo started to state her concerns. "If what you're saying is true, practically all the other test takers will have at least a year's worth of experience more than us. Do you really think we can cover that gap in just a month?"
"I do."
Kyoka gave a weird expression at Pop's words. She looked over at me and I shook my head no. She wanted to call him out for something but now wasn't the time.
Sero looked surprised. "Are you sure Mr. Aizawa?"
"I am, you all have something that they don't have."
"The confidence to believe in ourselves?" Hagakure asked unsure.
"No, you have a teacher that won't hesitate to expel you if you fail. Enjoy your time off, I'll see you all first thing Monday morning."
I looked over to Kyoka who was just staring at Pops shocked. I couldn't tell if she was like that because of an absurd lie or if it was because Pops actually would expel someone if they failed.
"It's alright, he's probably just saying that to give us some extra form of motivation." Uraraka kept a bubbly smile.
"Think what you want, just make sure you put in the work." Pops started to leave the dorms before turning around one last time. "Midoriya, Jirou I need to speak with you two outside."
The majority of the class began to collectively tease us as we walked outside with Pops. Once we were outside and a safe distance away we came to a stop.
"So what did you need, Pops?"
Pops let out a sigh. "This might not seem like it affects the two of you, but trust me it does."
Kyoka and I exchanged looks before turning back to face him. Kyoka crossed her arms as she spoke with a hint of impatience. "Care to elaborate?"
"Somehow Emi and your mother have become extremely close. They're trying to plan another night where we can have dinner again."
I raised an eye at Pop's. "How exactly does this affect us?"
"They want all of us there, that includes the two of you."
It was subtle but Kyoka did flinch. "I see, well it's not like it could happen anytime soon. Everyone has such busy schedules."
"They've already set a date for the night of the exam."
Kyoka let out a sigh. "Dammit."
I looked at the two of them confused. "I'm sorry, how exactly is this a bad thing?"
Kyoka put a hand on my shoulder. "Izuku, I know the whole having parents thing is new to you, but this is bad. My mom and Mama Joke went on for nearly two hours exchanging stories with no prep time. They have a month to think about and find stuff to share. This can only end badly for us."
Pops just nodded his head. "I agree, that and your dad is going to have a million more questions about what boundaries I am putting in place to keep you two in check."
I looked at Pops surprised. "You know now that you mention it, you really haven't been doing anything to keep us separated."
"I'm not an idiot, I know if I tell kids not to do something they instantly go and do it."
"So what are you going to tell my dad then?"
He stared at us for a moment. "I have a month to think about it."
"So in other words you have nothing."
Pops raised an eye at me. "Do you want me to enforce some rules? We could start with keeping a distance of three feet between each other during school. How about not sleeping in the same room or better yet not scaring your classmates with the flirting?"
Kyoka opened her mouth and immediately closed it while trying to think of something to say. After a moment something finally clicked. "How many classmates have we scared?"
I let out a groan. "Kyoka, don't ask that."
Pops took a deep breath. "Uraraka, Iida, Kaminari, Mineta, Yaoyorozu, Koda-"
"Wait, when did we scare Koda?" I looked at Pops shocked.
"He can communicate with animals and bugs. They have told him things."
Kyoka and I exchanged looks of confusion. "Maybe we should think about insect proofing our rooms as well."
Pops rubbed his temples. "It's not even halfway through the year you two. How? How did it happen so fast?"
Kyoka started to fiddle with her jacks. "In all fairness Yaomomo, Iida, Kaminari, and Mineta brought it on themselves."
"You threw two knives through a wall and it barely missed both Kaminari and Mineta."
Kyoka's eye started to twitch. "That's because they tried to peep during the girls' bath. I told Izuku and he gave what I would consider a light warning."
"True, but I do feel bad about Koda. But we didn't realize the bees and the birds would tell him about the birds and the bees." I couldn't help but laugh at my own joke.
Pops looked at me with a deadpan expression. "You become more like Emi everyday."
I gave him a smile. "Aww thank you."
"That wasn't a compliment." Pops tried his best to ignore the smirks on our faces. "So what's the deal with Uraraka? You have a story for everyone except her."
"Oh that one was just for fun."
Pops looked at me with annoyance. "Why?"
"Well she barged into my room without knocking. It's not our fault that it was a bad time."
Pops out a hand up to stop us. "That's enough, I'm not Midnight."
Kyoka bit her tongue trying to not say anything bad about Ms. Midnight. "Are we done?"
Pops looked at us with suspicion. "Almost, Midoriya Midnight wants to meet with you so give her a call."
I nervously swallowed as Kyokas eyes pierced me like daggers. "Yes sir."
After Pops left Kyoka and I stood outside in silence. She kept her eyes locked on me while I refused to move. Ms. Midnight was still a hot button issue for us. When I finally found the words to say Kyoka pressed a jack to my lips before anything came out.
"Whatever you were planning on saying don't. She's your therapist so you have to go. I trust that you won't make a stupid joke again."
I nodded. "Yes ma'am."
She lowered her jack and gave me a smile. "Good, now go ahead and call her."
I took a deep breath before taking out my phone. I already knew how this 'conversation' was going to go. Looking at Kyoka she just gave me a soft smile and a nod.
"It's about time you called Midoriya. I'm about to head into a meeting, but I'll come get you after it. I'll see you then."
I sighed as the call ended just as quickly as it started. Ms. Midnight wasn't a fan of phone calls, or making sure I don't have prior arrangements. Kyoka couldn't help but laugh at what had just happened.
"Is that how all your talks go?"
"More or less."
Kyoka took my arm and started to walk us back into the dorms. "Well come on, we don't have much time so let's enjoy what we do have."
Kyoka and I spent the rest of the afternoon in my room. I had to work on a project for Present Mic. Kyoka decided to keep me company while playing guitar. She was kind enough to let me bounce a few ideas off her. It's amazing how much faster the process goes when there is someone who knows what they're talking about around. Time flew by and before we knew it the sun was starting to set, that was when my home went off. It was Midnight who was telling me to come outside. Kyoka didn't look too happy, but she didn't try to stop me.
When I made it outside Midnight was impatient tapping her foot. I couldn't have possibly done anything to upset her… that I knew of. She didn't say anything, she just turned around and started to walk back to the school. I followed her in silence. Nothing was said between the two of us until we reached her office. We both sat across from each other and she let out a sigh.
"Is everything alright?"
She leaned back on the couch and stared at the ceiling. "All these summer meetings are getting annoying."
I looked at her confused before letting out a sigh of relief. "Oh thank God I thought I did something."
She looked at me as her eyes narrowed. "Oh no, you did do something."
I nervously gulped and looked away. "I don't think I did."
Her eyes softened as a warm smile spread on her face. "I heard about what happened before the camp. I'm really proud of the young man you've turned into. I sometimes can hardly believe how far you've come."
I looked back at her and blushed embarrassed. "I really haven't done much, besides I still have a long way to go."
"That may be true, but every step you take now is one less step you have to take later."
"Yeah, thanks for all the help Ms. Midnight."
She leaned back and relaxed a little. "So Midoriya, have you given any more thought about your future?"
I looked out the window at the orange sky. "Yeah, but I still need more time to think about it."
She gave me an understanding nod. "Have you mentioned any of this to her?"
I shook my head. "No, not yet. I don't want to say anything before I'm sure."
She raised an eye at me. "You do realize this decision will have an effect on her as well."
"Yeah, but I don't want to add anything more for her to think about."
"You will have to discuss this with her at some point. That is if you think it will last."
I sent a glare at her. "I'm not going to ruin this again."
Her expression relaxed again. "I'm glad to hear it. So tell me, how are you and Jirou doing?"
I scratched the back of my head. "I think we're doing alright now. She was pretty upset with me for most of the training camp."
She let out a sigh. "Do you not remember anything I taught you about women?"
I gave her an annoyed look. "She was upset because of the things you taught me."
Ms. Midnight crossed her arms. "I didn't take her to be a prude."
"She's not a prude… just a blue baller."
Ms. Midnight cocked an eye at me intrigued. "Then what did you do?"
I looked away from her. "I made a stupid joke."
"Explain."
"It's a long story."
"I'm not on the clock." She gave me a smile while leaving forward.
I let out a sigh before sitting up. "So you remember that one time we talked about how Yaomomo was definitely into Kyoka?"
"Yes, and you wanted to know if it would be ok to tease Jirou in order to tease her as well."
"Yeah, well Kyoka told me that Yaomomo actually told her that she liked her."
She looked at me confused. "So where did the issue start?"
"Well I asked if that was going to be my birthday present."
"A completely understandable thing to ask."
"I know right."
She nodded in agreement. "And she got mad at that?"
"No."
"No?"
I shook my head. "She actually said, 'that was her birthday present."
Ms. Midnight looked at me annoyed. "I'm failing to see where she gets upset here."
"It's coming, don't worry." I relaxed on the couch. "I said fine as long as she let me watch and then she called me a pervert."
Ms. Midnight stood up angered. "What!? There's nothing wrong with enjoying watching!"
"I know right."
The two of us made eye contact and started to laugh. After we calmed down Ms. Midnight took a sip of her tea.
"Is that what made her upset?"
"No, but she didn't exactly like that I blamed you."
She looked at me shocked. "Why would you ever blame me?"
I gave her a deadpan expression. "Do you seriously not remember when you gave me the talk?"
"I didn't tell you anything that fell outside of conventional knowledge."
"Are you serious!? Since when are personal stories about wax play denial convention knowledge?"
She pondered my retort for a moment. "Ok I see your point, but I stand by the glass rod."
"No! I still refuse to believe that is a real thing."
She started to reach for the phone. "I have the photos if you'd like to see."
"No! Can we please get back on topic?"
She put her phone down and looked at me annoyed. "You were the one that got us off topic."
"Yes and I'm sorry I did."
She shook her head at me. "So she didn't like that you blamed me."
"Yeah, but I think she got over it when I said I wouldn't have the same confidence if it wasn't for you."
Ms. Midnight smiled at me. "Awww."
"That being said she didn't want to know about your sex life."
"Well that's her loss."
"Yeah… then she went on about how much trouble I'd be in if I ever said your name instead of hers."
"Oh my." She put a hand over her mouth pretending to be shocked.
"A few other things happened and then we started to make out."
"Fun."
I rolled my eyes at her. "Yeah, well I decided it would be funny if I moaned your name while we did that… turns out it wasn't funny."
Ms. Midnight shrugged. "It wouldn't be the first time you've done that."
I shot a glare at her. "I thought we agreed to not talk about that?"
She smirked at me. "No, you agreed with yourself and besides it's not my fault you left the door wide open."
"I told you to call if you were going to come over unannounced."
"And I told you it's completely natural for a boy your age to have urges, besides it's not the first time I've walked in on someone pleasuring themselves while looking at me."
"That doesn't make it any better!"
"I bet Jirou would love to hear that story."
I felt my heart stop as I stared at her. "She would literally kill me."
She stopped to think for a moment. "I guess I shouldn't then, I'd miss our little talks."
I let out a nervous chuckle as my heart started again. "Yeah, so would I."
We sat in a comfortable silence for a while. The dynamic between Ms. Midnight and myself was a strange one. Even if she didn't give me much of a choice she was one of the first people I willingly told about my quirks ability. Sure I told Pops, Mama Joke, and Principal Nezu about it first, but there was something different about her. I don't know why, but I always felt that she treated me as an equal whenever we talked. Pops and Mama Joke both tried to treat me as equals, but they also still tried to be parental figures… even if Pops didn't want to admit it.
"Hey Ms. Midnight, can I ask you a question?"
She looked at me questioningly. "What's that?"
"Why did you become a therapist?"
She smiled at me before staring at the roof. "Some people know what they want to be from the beginning, while others struggle to find a calling. People often aspire to be like people who have helped them. A boy sees a hero stop a villain and he wants to be a hero. A girl is sick and a doctor performs surgery to save her, now she wants to be a doctor. I'm no different from them."
I looked at her intrigued. "Did you go to therapy as well?"
"You know we have more in common than you'd think. I don't know if you know this, but my quirk was also a mutation."
I looked at her shocked. "Really?"
She gave me a reassuring nod. "Yep, it's in no way related to any quirk on either side of my family."
"Well why did you need therapy?"
"Well I was terrified of my quirk and I hated it."
"But why? It's so cool."
She laughed to herself a little. "One day my parents and I were going out of town for a long weekend trip. Everything was great, but my quirk manifested while we were in the car. I had no control over it and it made my dad pass out. One minute we're enjoying a family trip, the next our car is overturned in a ditch on the side of the road."
I was taken back by her story. "Was everyone alright?"
"For the most part, dad broke an arm and a leg, mom broke her nose and had a concussion, and I just had a few cuts and bruises."
I let out a sigh of relief. "That's good."
She just nodded. "I blamed myself for what happened and swore I would never use my quirk again. Every night I cried myself to sleep wishing that my quirk would just disappear. I didn't realize at the time but it broke my parents heart because they could hear me. They decided to take me to a therapist that specialized in quirk acceptance. Back the chances of getting a quirk were a coin flip. Many people were still ostracized for having quirks."
"They wanted to help you, before the world tried to push you down further."
She smiled at me again. "Yeah, I can still remember to this day how nice she was. She helped me come to accept something I hated as well. She was my first hero. You know she used to always say the funniest thing and I thought she was crazy for it."
"Really?"
"Maybe there's only a dark road up ahead. But you still have to believe and keep going. Believe that the stars will light your path, even a little bit."
"That's kind of dark to tell a little kid."
She began to laugh. "I know, but that was how Ms. Miyazono was, no matter how bleak things seemed, she always had a smile and pushed forward."
I gave her a smile before looking at the floor. "Sounds like you look up to her a lot."
"It's like I said earlier, kids tend to want to be what they look up to. She made me want to help others that couldn't accept their quirks. As I grew older I decided I should be a hero and help a lot of people like that, but it turns out that wasn't the case. I ended up going back to school and becoming a therapist myself. Believe it or not, not many people hate their quirks, at least not any more. Sure most people will say they wish they had something flashier or a different quirk, but it's rare to see people completely disown them."
"I guess that makes me an anomaly."
She gave me a smile before moving to sit next to me. "Yep, you know you were the first person I got to help accept their quirk. You made my dream a reality."
I was caught off guard by Ms. Midnight pulling me into a hug. "I… I… uh.. you're welcome?"
She let go of me and laughed to herself. "Thank you Izuku."
"Do you regret becoming a hero?"
She shook her head. "Not at all, I've met and made some lifelong friends because of it. I wouldn't change the way I did a single thing."
I laughed a little before resting my head on her shoulder. "Can I ask you one more question?"
She smiled before placing a hand on my head. "You can ask all the questions you want."
KYOKA POV
The first week of training was a moderate success. We were told to form super moves and think about potential upgrades to our hero costumes. While we all were excited about it, we quickly realized that most of what people had planned was shot down.
I honestly didn't have too many ideas for a super move, but I did have something new I was looking forward to adding. I added speakers to my gloves that were detachable. I'd be lying if I said it was all my idea, Izuku made a comment about how it would be cool if I could incorporate my quirk more effectively into combat. With these I can now use my heartbeat to disorient more effectively or deliver a devastating blow with a punch. The extra weight that new speakers added was something I have to adjust to. Even though it wasn't by much, I did notice that my movements were slightly slower.
With three weeks until the Provisional License Exam everyone was starting to feel the pressure. Most tried to stay cool, while others tried to distract themselves. The latter is what currently landed me in my current situations. The girls in class 1-A had flooded into my room to interrogate me. The operation was being spearheaded by none other than Mina.
"Alright girl, I've waited long enough, so tell us how you and Midori met." The pink girl stared at me with an eager smile.
I rolled my eyes while looking around the room. Mina and Hagakure we're definitely the most excited about this, Tsu had her same blank expression that was hard to read, Uraraka seemed to be hesitant but still wanted to know, and Momo did her best to be nonchalant.
"We met in class."
Hagakure held up a small sign with an X on it. "Wrong answer!"
I raised an eye at her confused. "What do you mean wrong answer? Also what's with the signs?"
"Jirou everyone knows you two knew each other before UA." She held up a sign that showed someone rolling their eyes. "As for these they will help better show my mannerisms, also it's fun."
I bit my tongue to hide my annoyance. "How does everyone know that?"
Mina looked at me strangely. "What person smacks someone they just met? That doesn't even include how your parents were so chummy with him."
I looked away nervously. "You never know, he could have done something that warranted it during the entrance exam?"
It was Uraraka's turn to be skeptical. "But you weren't in the same testing group as us?"
"Shit, I forgot she was in his group." I nervously laughed. "Does this really matter?
Mina leaned forward. "Yes it does, we want to know how the love blossomed."
I let out a defeated sigh. "Fine, but will you please stop with this after I answer your question?"
Mina nodded vigorously. "Yes yes yes!"
"We've known each other for two years now."
Minas smile got even larger as she started to squeal. "Yes! Now was it love at first sight?"
I scoffed at her. "As if."
Hagakure held up a sign with a confused face. "Why not?
I looked over at her slightly annoyed. "Because looks aren't everything."
Tsu nodded. "So it was his personality then?"
I shook my head. "Not at first."
Uraraka looked at me confused. "Then what was it?"
"You probably won't believe it, but he was nothing like he is now when we first met." I faintly smiled as I remembered the time we spent together. "He was really scrawny and could barely hold a conversation. He had no confidence whatsoever… he always walked as if he had the weight of the world on his shoulders and his eyes were always empty."
The girls looked at each other before looking back at me. Mina gave me a suspicious look. "We are talking about the same person right?"
I nodded to her. "Yeah."
"Impossible. There is no way that the stud muffin of a man known as Midoriya could have been like that." Hagakure held up a sign of a shaking head.
"It's true." I went to my night stand and pulled out the old picture of us before handing it to them.
They all piled around shocked. Even Momo looked surprised. She may have known about us, but she had never seen the picture before.
"Oh my God! You weren't lying Jirou!" Mina continued to gawk at the picture. "So did you two date before UA?"
"It was complicated." I took the picture back and walked back to my night stand. "Izuku had a lot going on back then. We… I sort of jumped into it."
Uraraka looked at me confused. "What do you mean by that?"
"Izuku didn't have much going for him back then. Looking back at it, he may have just been happy to finally have someone." When I turned around all the girls looked confused, except Momo who's eyes were wide. "Everything alright?"
"You make it sound like something bad happened to him?" Tsu put a finger to her chin.
I looked at her slightly confused before the realization of what I had just said clicked. "I mean he grew up quirkless, I'm sure there were probably a few people who teased him about it. I mean even after he made it to the top four of the sports festival there are still people who think he shouldn't be here."
Mina looked to the ceiling and stretched. "Yeah, I guess that makes sense. You know he was something else at the sports festival. I never would have expected him to pressure Todoroki like that."
Hagakure held up a sign of someone nodding. "I know right, but the way he ripped off his shirt and jacket was so cool."
Uraraka looked down a little. "How do you think he got that scar?"
All eyes turned to me as I had to bite my tongue. "I can't let something else slip."
Momo cleared her throat. "Don't you girls think that's enough?"
All the eyes turned to her and I gave her a gentle smile to thank her before clearing my throat. "Sorry, even if I knew I wouldn't say, it's not my place. But I think that's enough questions about the past."
Mina let off a small whine. "Jirou, that's not fair!"
"Sorry, but I'm not answering anymore." I sat on the edge of my bed.
Mina and Hagakure both sighed with discontent, Tsu remained neutral, while Uraraka looked partially relieved.
A smirk spread across my face as I crossed my legs. "My turn to ask questions."
All the girls looked at me confused. Mina was the first to speak up. "I'm game."
"I'm curious to know what all of you thought about Izuku when you first met him."
The girls all exchanged confused looks. Hagakure laughed a little. "I thought he was a bad boy. He gave off their unapproachable vibe and I thought that was really cool."
Mina relaxed and put her hands behind her head. "I'm the same as Hagakure, but I also really liked his hair."
"I don't like to judge people until I've talked to them so I didn't have one." Tsu kept her emotionless expression.
"I thought he was arrogant at first when he approached me on the first day." Momo shook her head. "Then after talking to him I was surprised to find that he was smarter than I gave him credit for."
I looked at Momo slightly confused. She had never told me that before, but I guess it would be awkward to bring up the fact that she didn't like him at first.
Uraraka looked away embarrassed while tapping her pointer fingers together. "When I met him at the entrance exam he helped calm my nerves. Then during the actual exam I got knocked out and he saved me from getting crushed. I thought he was really cool."
Mina looked over with a sly smile. "Sounds like someone was crushing on him."
Urarakas' face turned red as she shook her head. "It wasn't like that."
I raised an eye at her. "Wow I don't even need my quirk to know that's a lie."
Uraraka covered her face, ashamed. "It's not like that anymore I swear."
I extended my jack and used it to pull her hands away from her face. "Why are you getting so upset?"
"What kind of friend has a crush on her friends boyfriend?"
"What kind of fucked up love octagon is this? I mean seriously, first Kaminari and Momo, now there's Uraraka. I'm still suspicious of that Yukihira girl and something about that Togata guy doesn't sit right with me." I started to laugh which caught her off guard. "There's no law saying that you can't have a crush on a guy that's taken is there?"
Uraraka shook her head. "No, but still-"
"But nothing, you can't help it if your heart wants something." I sent a smirk over to Momo. "Besides you're not the only one, isn't that right Momo?"
Momo's face turned a deep red. "J.. Jirou I told you that in confidence!"
Mina turned to Momo as her horns began to twitch. "So Yaomomo has a thing for him as well… you know I could totally see them together."
Hagakure held up a sign with a thumbs up. "Agree, but I could actually see him with any of the girls in our class."
Hearing the two of them say that did hurt a bit, but I knew they didn't mean to hurt me. I was the one that made this bed so now I had to sleep in it. I did my best to laugh it off to not ruin the mood. "You know it's crazy to think what could have been if things just played out a little differently."
As much as I tried to keep composed I saw Momo looking at me concerned. "Hey Jirou, we're these sound absorbers always here?"
I looked at her confused. I knew for a fact I had told her that Izuku put them in before the training camp. "No, Izuku installed them so we wouldn't disturb any…one… oh shit"
Mina and Hagakure both leapt up and got in my face. Somehow the two of them managed to speak in perfect unison. "Tell is everything!"
Momo just started to laugh at the scene she had just caused. As much as I wanted to be upset with her I couldn't be. One reason was because I knew she only did it to keep my mind from overthinking. And second being I was currently preoccupied with not only trying to get Uraraka down from the ceiling, but I also was having to explain to Mina and Hagakure that it was for music reasons only… mostly… Izuku and I would have to have a talk about it at some point… probably.
A/N:
Alright I promise that these notes at the end aren't going to become a constant thing. I actually planned to have this chapter drop on Friday, but due to unforeseen circumstances our lord and savior Horikoshi threw at us I spent all Friday and Saturday theorizing. For all of you that are caught up to the manga you know what I'm talking about. As much as I want to just spoil what's happening I have decided to be a benevolent ruler and not spoil it.
However I will say based on how a few things were said and worded I don't actually think that agent X is actually agent X. If anyone is curious as to what my reasoning is then feel free to message me and I'll do my best to explain.
With all that being said I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and if you don't celebrate it… I hope you had a great Thursday.
