Hello again everyone! This chapter isn't too bad with triggers, just a bit of medical things in the first paragraph and then a bit about the oppressive situation Roman used to be in. As always take care of yourselves and thank you for reading.
Janus went through the things he'd been told as he waited out in the hallway for Roman to be done and Remus to return. There was a decent number of things he'd been told but none were very surprising. He assumed he'd need to talk all of it over with Logan once he got home. For now he knew he needed to make sure Roman was giving a nutrient and protein rich diet, slowly working him back to eating normal amounts of real food. They also said he'd likely be suffering from a lot of mental trauma relating to information he asked to remain private as well as the death of Belle. He'd need to be given space to grieve but not leaving him alone for long periods to prevent any feelings of abandonment. He'd also need to return for a checkup in four weeks to check up on his physical condition, although if he experienced anything unusual, it would be best to bring him in earlier. There was also the matter of making sure he'd have pads for the post-birth lochia he'd likely be secreting for the next four to six weeks. He was also informed Roman would still be producing milk, which without breastfeeding would cause a lot of mental and physical discomfort for the omega, he was then given a series of ways to help through the process or suppress the lactation. On top of that, since Roman had suffered from a lot of tearing during birth, he had several stitches that Janus had to make sure he took regular warm baths to keep them from getting an infection. There would be pain medication ready at a pharmacy near Janus's home to help Roman through the pain he'd likely feel during the four to six week recovery period. Beyond that it was mostly just preventing Roman from over exerting himself while he healed. With his work and Virgil's heat coming up, he was really going to need all of his mates to pitch in and help Roman, although he had to keep in mind that Virgil would be incapacitated during his heat and Logan would soon have finals to study for. Usually, he wouldn't trust Remus to take care of this sort of thing, no offense to the omega he just had a tendency to get distracted or forget things, hopefully it'd be different with it being his brother who needed to be taken care of. He knew Patton would take good care of Roman, he took care of everyone who came to live in their household.
"Sir?"
Janus blinked himself back into reality and realized Roman was peaking out around the door of his room.
"No need for formality, Roman," Janus chuckled. "Are you ready?
"Yes, Sir," Roman replied, stepping out where Janus could see him.
The deep collared green shirt he wore was typically fairly tight on Remus however on Roman it was only form fitting on his chest which had bloated a bit from pregnancy hormones while the rest of the shirt hung limply from his thin frame. Over the quarter sleeves he wore a warm knitted wool overcoat of a dappled gray color. His dark colored jeans, like the shirt should have been fairly tight but now they just hung from his hip bone not even showing off the bit of pudge he had after giving birth. Still, he looked much better in real clothing and in his brother's favorite colors he looked even more like Remus.
"Really, there is no need to call me Sir," Janus said, walking closer.
"But you are an alpha, you're superior. Sir and Master are the only proper titles I've been told to use… Perhaps you have a special title for your omegas?" Roman rambled, pulling at his coat.
Janus felt a bit of sadness at the comment. He knew it was common for bred omegas to think like this, they were mostly brainwashed but to think so little of ones-self simply because of gender was ridiculous. He hated that society had done this to what was quite possibly the gender that should have the most respect after all of the things they had to go through. They shouldn't be looked down upon for having heats, they should be praised and taken care of. He hoped he could make Roman realize that but after twenty four years of life being stuck like that, it tends to be hard to forget.
"I do, it is my name. Roman I am not superior to you, secondary gender doesn't matter to me. You are more than welcome to call me Janus, however if it makes you more comfortable for the time being I don't mind you calling me Sir, as long as you know it isn't a title of superiority," Janus said.
Roman's gaze fell awkwardly, clearly unsure of how to respond to such a comment. Janus decided to change the topic.
"You look nice in those clothing. Do they feel alright?" He asked.
"Yes Sir Janus, they are quite nice. Are you… Are you sure it is alright for me to be wearing this much though? Roman asked.
Another pang made Janus's throat feel like it was tingling and swelling.
"Did your former master not give you things like this?" Janus asked.
Roman shook his head.
"No… Mistress did, but Master only really had us wear skirts and in the winter sometimes shirts too, unless we were going somewhere of importance of course. Oh, is that why I'm wearing this? Are you bringing me to a showing?" Roman asked curiously.
"No, Roman, I am just bringing you to my home. Everyone else has always preferred to wear normal clothing. Do you prefer skirts or less clothing? I am intending to bring you shopping tomorrow, you are more than welcome to pick out things that are more your style," Janus explained.
"I… I don't know," Roman's brow shook as he spoke, unsure of how he should feel. "I've never had a choice? No one has ever given me a choice before, I wouldn't know what I'd want… d-do I have to wear clothing when my heat comes again Sir Janus?"
Janus would kill a person if he didn't need to have a clean slate to keep his job as a lawyer. Anyone who treated an omega, or any living being for that matter, like this should be given the worst punishment available. It was cruel brainwashing. Then again, Janus's father was a person like that. There were more brainless bred and trained omegas in his father's home that he cared to count, his recent midlife crisis buying wasn't doing him any favors in that fact either.
"No, I would never force you to do anything you don't want to or, for the most part, not let you do something you want to. I know you've likely been in a very unfortunate circumstance of not being given much of a chance to learn about your own opinions and learning anything about the real world, but trust me when I say you are not property. From now on you are free, you are allowed to make opinions and do the things you want. I'll be here to help you through this and if you can't trust me yet, Remus is going to be with you too. I won't sugar coat it, your brother is probably the most freely spoken omega I've met," Janus tried to reassure him.
As if to prove his point there was a screech from down the hall and when he looked over Remus was in a power stance a few feet away, his mustache twitching smugly.
"Sup Bitches!" He called over.
"Wow, Remus, what perfect behavior for a hospital. No one would throw you out for that," Janus sighed sarcastically.
"Come on, Snakey, shouldn't you be saying I look sexy or something?" Remus complained.
Remus walked over and gave a bit of a pout, his hands on his hips as he popped one out a bit. His large muted green sweater fell from his left shoulder and his ripped skinny jeans clung tightly to his muscular legs. He'd covered his ears with a black beanie and a patterned hoodie tied around his waist to hide his tail. Remus was handsome, Janus would never say he wasn't unless it was clearly sarcasm.
"You look lovely as always, although I do love seeing your ears and tail," Janus replied simply.
"You knew what you were doing bringing these," Remus replied.
"I'm aware. I want you to be comfortable and safe. Although we both know it is just so you can confuse people," Janus chuckled.
Roman looked at Remus curiously, almost a bit concerned by the fact Remus wasn't showing his omega traits. He didn't know if that was even allowed in society, he'd never really seen anyone do it before, then again he never really looked when he had the chance.
Remus stuck his tongue out at Janus, a playful glimmer in his eyes. He then turned his attention over to his brother.
"Hey Ro, Janny keeping you good company?" He asked, raising an arm to welcome Roman under it.
Roman gave a nod and took the opportunity to be close to Remus, enjoying the way their similar scents mixed with each new time they touched. It'd been too long since he'd been held platonically like this, he never wanted to lose this again, he'd die if he did.
"Are we good to get out of this stinky place or are we going to have to wait around until we go insane from all of the beeping machines?" Remus asked.
"We need to head to the front desk so I can sign some paperwork and so they can give Roman the prints before we leave," Janus explained.
So that was what they did. Roman was practically mute once they left the seclusion of the quiet hallway, only muttering a small thank you when he was given a copy of a certificate with Bellissima's name as well as the prints of her hands and feet. One the way home Remus chose to sit in the back with Roman leaving Janus alone in the front to drive, both of them tried to include him in conversation but he still spoke very little. Janus got the pain medications from the pharmacy near their house, leaving Remus and Roman in the car for the time being. Once he got back in he started heading home.
"Don't worry Ro, you're going to love it. Janus has a very nice house and everyone is going to love you," Remus tried to reassure him.
Roman drew in on himself a little, unsure what else to do. He had absolutely no idea what to expect. Remus made Janus sound different than the others he'd met but he wasn't quite sure what different entailed. It'd been a while since he'd even been with the normal, he wasn't quite sure he could even fully get back into the swing of that.
Roman heard the car's blinker and looked up to see them pulling up a long driveway into a mansion estate. It wasn't as large as his old master's home but it was still rather impressive for being in the middle district. The building seemed to be two stories with a third one over part of the building and seeming to have an upper patio area. Both the first and second floor had wrap around, covered porches that covered the front and both sides but appeared to end just before reaching the back. The house was built up a bit, having stairs up onto the porch and a honey brown lattes siding the underside of the porch, a delicate fence carved from wood surrounding the edge. The whole perimeter of the house was surrounded by tall, still blooming sunflowers. Roman had to assume this was likely one of the last days before they began to wilt as Winter was just around the bend.
"Do you like what you see?" Remus asked.
Roman nodded.
"It's really nice," he replied.
The car pulled up front alongside another which was parked in an offshoot of the otherwise circular driveway. Janus put the car in park and turned off the engen.
"Are you ready to go in or do you need a minute?" Janus asked.
"I'm fine Sir Janus," Roman said after a moment of hesitance.
The three of them exited the car and headed up to the house, Remus helping Roman up the stairs more than it was necessary but Roman smiled at the kindness his brother was so willingly giving him. The double doors opened to expose the foyer. The area was lit by lights on the walls casting a shadow over two hallways across from each other going left and right. Directly in the center there was a doorway between two sets of curved stairs heading up to the second floor. Janus kept walking forward towards the door. Inside the room three omegas sat on a couch casually watching television. The room was small and quaint for the rest of the house's size but it seemed so cozy. There was a couch, two arm chairs, a coffee table, and on the opposite wall from the door they entered through was a glass door looking into the back yard, directly at a covered hot tub.
"We're home," Janus announced.
The first to bounce up was a blonde omega that had wild curls framing his freckled face. The fur of his ears and tail were white, the fur was long and well groomed, seeming very shiny and healthy. Hiding behind a pair of glasses, his gray blue eyes held a genuine kindest that Roman wasn't sure he could compare to anyone else's.
"Janny, Re, welcome home! You must be Remus's brother. I heard what happened and I'm so sorry, Kiddo. Are you okay? Is there anything I can do for you? How about some cookies? Would cookies help a bit?" He rambled.
"Patton, breathe. You are going to overwhelm him," Another of the omegas said, walking forward calmly.
He was taller than the first. His black hair was neatly combed out of his face, rounded cat ears of an identical color being the only thing to stick up amongst the hair. His tail was relatively stationary compared to the first omega's which was twitching with excitement. The tail was short furred and the same color as the ears pardon the white tip. He wore more formal clothing, similar to Janus's style and had the exact same glasses as the one called Patton.
"Oh, sorry, I got excited," Patton apologized.
"It's… it's okay," Roman replied, not used to being apologized to for a reason like this.
"So you're Remus's brother, hm? You two really are nearly identical," The third omega mused.
He was slightly smaller than the other two as well as more slender but curvy, even though he was attempting to cover it with baggy clothing. His dark brown bangs fell into his face, covering one of the light brown eyes. He had black fur just like Logan but it was a medium length and was missing the white tip.
"Yes. My name is Roman. Sorry for my intrusion," Roman replied, bowing his head slightly before exposing his throat in a sign of submission.
He waited a moment but none of them seemed to be coming over to acknowledge him. He wasn't accepted. He closed his eyes and was about to move back behind Remus when he felt a nuzzle against his scent gland as someone marked him with their scent. He opened his eyes to see Logan backing away and exposing his own throat. Logan didn't see himself as superior to Roman, they were equal. He couldn't help the sting in his eyes as a smile broke across his face and he accepted Logan's offer to scent mark him as well.
When he backed away, Logan smiled kindly.
"Don't mind the other two, they just don't understand what you were doing. They were lucky enough to not be born into one of those places," Logan explained. "They literally have no idea, trust me. I tried it with Patton when I first came. He gave me a hug instead."
Roman nodded absently as he glanced over at the other two omegas. They had been born to normal families, not in the facilities. Roman wondered what kind of life they had gotten to have outside of being prepared for a sale, he could barely imagine what it might be like.
"Yeah, it's alright Ro, they all welcome you here," Remus added.
"There is no need for you to be afraid or submit here," Janus reassured him, resting a hand on his shoulder.
There was a menacing hiss and Roman looked over to see it had come from Virgil. His tail was bristled and his pupils constricted. Before he could do anything he was shoved away from Janus, Virgil taking his place and releasing a scent to make it clear he was claiming the alpha. Stupid, Roman was so stupid. He was so careless about the situation. He and Janus reeked of eachother's scents. Remus had even warned him Virgil was a recently claimed omega that was about to enter heat. Of course a strange omega being so casual with his mate would make him aggressive.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to. I wasn't trying to steal him." Roman tried to explain.
"Virgil, you scared him," Patton lectured.
"No, really it's okay, it's my fault," Roman pressed.
Patton and Janus seemed to ignore him, although they were speaking gently and not stopping Virgil from possessively clinging to his alpha it was clear they were both disappointed in his reaction.
Logan rested a hand on Roman's shoulder.
"Why don't Remus and I show you where you'll be sleeping?" he suggested.
Roman nodded and followed them through a third door in the room, beside the wall mounted TV, heading towards the right side of the house. He was led into a hall with a little alcove with fish tanks and around the corner, looping around to another hall that seemed to be the right side one he'd seen from the entrance.
"You can have this room. I'm sure Janus will let you personalize it as you want, it's a bit underwhelming since it was being used as a guest room," Logan explained.
"Wait, don't all the omegas stay together?" Roman asked.
"Nah, we all get our own rooms, no need for crowded shared rooms like back at the facility," Remus replied.
Roman's chest felt heavy with disappointment, he'd get used to this. At least there were other people around that he was fairly certain he was allowed to see. But still, it was similar to those horrible days.
He shook it off and opened the door to look around. Wooden floor, cream walls, cream and pink bedspread, perfectly clean.
He wasn't allowed to leave, master ordered it. He couldn't touch anything, master hadn't told him he could. It was dark. Cold. Lonely. No was coming. He was scared. Stupid. So stupid. This was all his fault. They were angry and it was all his fault.
"Ro? Ro-Bro, are you okay?" Remus asked worriedly.
Roman snapped out of his thoughts and quickly smiled back at his twin.
"I'm fine, don't worry."
"You were trembling," Logan pointed out.
Roman stayed silent, he didn't know how to make them stop worrying. Logan let out a soft breath.
"How about we take you on a tour of the house? Then we can spend the night together in your room. I'm sure you're used to more omegas being around in your old him," Logan suggested.
Roman brightened at Logan's words, excited for a bit of normality for the first time in so long.
"I'd love that," he replied.
