I stared at the water just hoping beyond hope that Rival would breach and be completely fine, but nothing happened. I could barely breath as I stared at the rushing water, a few bodies floated out of the wrecked tank and floated away.

"Hey?" a voice said behind me, I resisted the urge to scream bloody murder as I turned my head to see the mechanic I saved, in his hand a bow. He must have been the one that shot that brute on the tank, which effectively saved my life.

"What? If you are going to kill me make it fast." I muttered not really caring what anyone did anymore. I heard him get closer and then he knelt down next to me and stared at me.

"I'm not going to kill you, you saved my life. I'm grateful but...why would you save me? We are enemies." he said and I scoffed, well tried to I'm pretty sure most of my ribs are broken and might be digging into my lungs.

"Trust me, a few days ago I would have ripped you open without a care in the world, but certain things in my life have me rethinking my tactics. You aren't the enemy kid, the Generals are." I explained as I was able to turn on my back and stare straight up at the sky.

I never understood how a dickhead like Zeus was the one that got something as beautiful as the sky.

"You really need to work on your social skills man." he said sitting next to me, dropping his bow next to him. I glanced over and he made no attempt to finish me off, he literally could kill me right now and become the hero of the Triumvirate and be showered in fame.

Yes I know, oh Sam why would killing you make someone famous do you really think you are that important? Bitch its a fucking statistics game here! I know my death is highly sought after by anyone against me.

"Thank you for saving me...I really didn't want to get flattened." the guy said with a soft chuckle. I just sighed deeply and he looked over at me then pulled out a small canteen "Drink this." he said helping my head up so I could sip.

It was Nectar, I felt the wound on my head start to close and the blood rushing out of me slowed. He then pulled out a small box and in it was some Ambrosia, he broke off a chunk and helped me eat, I could feel the throbbing in my chest and my stomach start to become dull. My breathing became slightly more stable.

"I owe you my life, for saving me. This is the least I could do." the guy said helped me sit up, I looked towards the road and police and such were already stopping to investigate the chaos.

"You realize that by saving me you are betraying the General you work for right?" I asked softly and the mechanic stiffened for a second before he resumed helping me up.

After a few minutes of walking he finally spoke again "Fitzpatrick is a psychopath. I was pressured into joining because of my mechanic skills. I don't have any loyalty towards him just like the rest of his guard." he explained.

I stopped walking when he said that "None of his men are loyal?" I asked and the man nodded. I shook my head as we kept walking "Then why do you follow him?" I asked curiously. We had reached the road and in the distance I saw a small car, did this dude drive here? I mean...it seems weird that a soldier took a car to an ambush point...there's no reason for it to be weird but...it is right?

"None, he relies on his reputation and his veteran soldiers to keep everyone in line. He preys on the weak and the desperate, recruiting in places that you shouldn't recruit from. Colleges, high schools, orphanages, broken homes. He's a horrible human being." the man said.

What kind of sick fuck takes advantage of people that don't know any better? I mean once upon a time sure I would have done that in a heart beat but this guy is something else! That crossed my mind but then another thing entered it.

"Where are you taking me?" I asked as we finally reached the car and he opened the shotgun seat, its not like I had much strength to fight or anything so I sat down.

He quickly jumped into the drivers seat, started the car, and drove right into the state of Virginia. After the wreckage vanished from sight the guy spoke again "I'm taking you to an underground doctor, my sister. She's going to patch you up. I want to help you." he said as he kept glancing in his mirrors as if expecting to be followed.

"Why?" I asked coldly, I started looking out the window and I could see my reflection, I looked like I just was in a fight with Freddy Krueger. After a few miles of silence the guy finally spoke again, god he needs to speak faster! It's like talking to a snail!

"Because I don't want to be in an organization that kills the innocent and takes advantage of those that can't defend themselves. My father and my grandfather were both a part of the Gargareans, they were informants. For years they urged me to follow them but I wanted to fight, I had to fight on the front lines. Then I was transferred to Fitzpatricks base. Everything changed then and its been getting worse ever since." he explained.

"You know just because you helped me doesn't mean I trust you got it?!" I growled out maybe a little bit harsher than I intended but he nodded, not in fear but in understanding.

"I don't expect you to seeing as I just tried to blow you to pieces with a tank. I hope that will change eventually but as of right now let's get you patched." he said and I nodded, my eyelids starting to feel heavy.

"I'm Sam." I muttered, it felt like my eyelids were made of lead and I could barely keep them open.

"Shane, nice to meet you King Strife." he said, though his voice sounded distant. I felt my head drop and my eyes shut tight.

Darkness took me.

I saw a man in the shadows, I had no idea what he looked like all I saw was his outline. I tried to make out where we were but it was a small room, a desk, a bed, a closet, and a small window on the wall overlooking a random neighborhood, the blinds were down making the room even darker. Must have been his bedroom if I had to guess.

There was a knock and the man opened it and two young men were on the other side, both wearing what looking green college sweatshirts.

"Hey dude, the others are gathering in the science building. You coming?" one of them asked and the guy shook his head and said something but when he spoke I heard nothing but silence. The two guys nodded in understanding then turned around and left.

The figure moved towards his desk where a computer was set up and he sat down and quickly started typing on a website I didn't recognize, it seemed like he was making a poster of sorts. I couldn't make out his features but I could definitely see he was smiling.

He perked his head up and glanced at his window, he must have heard something I guess? He stood up and walked towards the window, he was standing just a few feet away from me now. He lowered one of the blinds and I caught a glimpse of him, brown hair, glasses, and green eyes. He looked worried as if expecting to be attacked when I remembered what Shane had said, college students were victim to Fitzpatricks recruiting. This kid must be worried about getting recruited, those two guys must have been a part of the Gargareans.

He let out a shaky breath before returning to his computer, who is this kid? Why am I dreaming about him? Is he important? Do I need to find him? Save him from being recruited? What the fuck is going on?!

He lifted his head up and then turned around and stared directly at me, I knew he couldn't see me but the way he looked I swear he was looking me in the eye and he knew it.

Then the scene dissolved.

My eyes snapped open and I saw Shane shaking my shoulder "Hey, we made it to my sisters. Come on." he said helping me out of the car. I saw a small townhouse in front of us, a decent place to live to be honest, the door flew open and a short blonde haired woman in scrubs walked out "Shane!? What did you do?!" she demanded to know glaring at the young man.

He whimpered a little before I lifted my head up, I doubt the copious amounts of blood covering my face didn't look very appealing. she turned to me as I moved "Your brother here saved my life, he said you could help me." I said and her features softened before she nodded and took my other arm and helped me inside.

"Shane grab me all the painkillers in the basement this is going to be one hell of a surgery." she said as she laid me on a dinner table.

I was just staring at a fan going round and round, it was almost soothing, hypnotic really. I felt a slight sting in my arm and I tried to see what it was.

"It's okay, this is something that requires you being unconscious, sorry about this." she said as she pushed the plunger of a needle. I tried to nod but I could hardly register anything at this point, the Ambrosia was wearing off and the pain was coming back.

"Just let it take over, this will be over soon. Just close your eyes." she said and her voice sounded like it was echoing through a fan. This high pitched whine was ringing in my ears as the fan above was distorted as it moved making a whirlpool.

That's my last memory before the drugs overwhelmed me and my muscles relaxed completely to the point I couldn't even move them. I had one final thought before everything shut off and I fell asleep...

I don't want to die!
