Chapter:18 Family and Bonds
Back in Patch, in the home of the Xiao Long- Rose Family, Yang has trouble sleeping in her bedroom as she constantly move around on her bed with a troubled look on her face.
The nightmares she is getting after the lose of her arm and the team separation kept her troubled all night long when she keeps remembering that familiar sword cutting her again.
Yang then woke up with a gasp as she looked around the room in anxiety. She saw the robotic arm she have received as it was out of the box, but Yang quickly look away in fear. She then hear laughter coming from downstairs.
Yang heads downstairs to discover Professors Bartholomew Oobleck, Peter Port, and Suesei Shori sitting at her kitchen table and laughing with her father, Taiyang Xiao Long. There's a bowl of fruit at the center of the table.
"And, and, and then, in comes Qrow, wearing a skirt! I was just a TA, I-I didn't know what to do, so I just... I just left the room to laugh!" Port told as the four men laugh jovially while Yang went near the kitchen door.
"We told him it was a kilt! He'd never worn a uniform before, so he didn't know!" Tai said as the four men continued to laugh.
"Oh my Oum that's hilarious!" Shori said as he hold his stomach in pain from the misfortune of the drunkard.
"That is terrible! What is wrong with you!?" Oobleck said as he also laugh as well.
"Hey! The girls all said he had nice legs! I did that jerk a favor! Besides, that's not even the best part! See, then we-" Tai was then cut off when Peter put his right leg on tabletop.
""Like what you see?"" Peter said as the four of them kept laughing and Port loses his balance.
"Whoa-oh!" Peter tries to save himself from falling, but ends up on the floor. There's even more laughter. Taiyang claps from mirth and Port joins in the hilarity from the floor. Yang giggles too, covering her mouth, but the four men become alerted to her presence. Oobleck and Shori stands while Port gets up off the floor.
"Oh, uh, Miss Xiao Long! Uh, please, join us," Peter said as Yang enters while Oobleck laughs, a little bit embarrassed.
"Oh, yes, yes, pull up a chair. Please, pull up a chair," Oobleck said.
"I'm good," Yang declined as she hoists herself backward up onto the kitchen counter, beside where her father stands. Port, Shori, and Oobleck sit back down.
"So, what are you doing here?" Yang asked.
"Professor Goodwitch is working 'round the clock to restore Beacon to its former glory! But, Mistral wasn't built in a day. And we all need rest from time to time," Port said as the others agreed with him.
"Teresa was getting tired on pulling the supplies that needed to be given to the people, so she is currently outside running by now," Shori said as they then heard a loud neigh outside.
"Now look, let's not worry about that right now. So, there we were, standing in the auditorium, looking at Qrow, wearing a skirt. Then Oz tells everyone, "It's time to work on our landing strategy!" Tai said.
"The Branwen twins have always been... interesting, to say the least," Oobleck said hesitantly.
"That sure didn't seem to stop young Tai," Port said.
"Hey, come on, man, she's right here," Tai said.
"Oh, please! She's a mature young woman! If she can handle combat, she can handle a few jabs at her old man!" Port interjected.
"That's not the issue, Pete! And besides, she's still a teenager!" Tai said as Yang began to get annoyed.
""She" is also in the room, and can be directly spoken to. And I think I've been through enough to be considered an adult at this point," Yang said in slight anger as Tai could only sigh.
"Adult or not, you've still got a long way to go before you're ready for the real world."
"Oh my gosh! Does every father figure have the same three condescending phrases?" Yang asked in annoyance.
"Yeah! But we only use them when we mean it!" Tai defended.
Port and Oobleck look at each other as father and daughter argue, a touch uncomfortable. Oobleck takes a sip from his mug while Shori mess with his hoodie's zipper and Port pulls at his collar.
"Is that so?" Yang said as she look at him with a competitive look.
"As a matter of fact, it is so! If you honestly think that you're ready to go out there on your own, ha, well I guess you lost some brain cells along with that arm," Tai said as Yang gasps and pulls back from her father's face while a stunned Port leans forward, Shori was frozen, and Oobleck's mouth drops open and his glasses slip down. There's a comedic beat before the mug slips out of Oobleck's hand to safely land on the table. All three stare at Taiyang for a few seconds.
"You...jerk!" Yang shouted as she playfully punches Taiyang, and the father and daughter laugh together.
"Are we finally talking about the Goliath in the room?" Oobleck whispered as Shori shrug. Taiyang and Yang look at each other and then laugh. Relieved laughter comes from both Port and Oobleck.
"Oh, Miss Xiao L— Yang, if you don't mind me asking, why haven't you tried on the arm yet?" Peter asked.
"Oh, yes, yes! A piece of Atlas technology given out like that is rare indeed! Not to mention the effort it took to deliver it here. It seems a great many people want to see you returned to normal," Oobleck said.
"A normal prosthetic is fine and all, but a robotic one is an offer I wouldn't refuse," Shori said.
"I'm... scared," Yang said in discomfort as Tai takes a sideways step closer to Yang, watching and listening. "Everyone keeps talking about me getting back to normal. And I appreciate it, but... this is normal now."
Oobleck, Port, and Shori exchange sad, knowing glances.
"It's just taking me a while to get used to it," Yang said.
"Well, normal is what you make of it," Tai said as his daughter look at him.
"What is that supposed to mean? Do you want me to just pretend like nothing happened? I lost a part of me. A piece of me is gone. And it's never coming back," Yang said in sorrow.
"You're right. It's not coming back. But that doesn't have to stop you from becoming who you wanna be. You're Yang Xiao Long, my sunny little dragon," Tai said as he then put his hand on her shoulder. "You can do whatever you put your mind to. So whenever you're ready to stop moping, and get back out there, I'll be there for you."
"I... I..." Yang stuttered.
"Fear is like any other emotion. It comes and goes. It's all in how you handle it. Why, even I find myself wrestling with that emotion from time to time," Port said as Yang look at the obese Professor unconvincingly.
"Really? You?" Yang asked.
"He's afraid of mice," Oobleck whispered as Shori held back his laughter.
Port pounded the table and shouted, "They bring only disease and famine!"
Yang laughs while Port rants about the creepiness of mice. Taiyang watches her.
"And don't even get me started on their tails! So hairless, and simply unnatural!" Port shouted.
"Port, I assure you, you are safe. There's no mice here right now," Oobleck assured.
"I might prank him with a Rattata plushie," Shori whispered to him as Oobleck tried to force back a devious smile.
The five of them then continued talking till it was near night time and Yang decided to go back upstairs. Yang is currently taking the last steps at the top of the stairs. She turns partially and lifts her hand to those below.
"Goodnight!" Yang shouted to them.
The arm on the bedside table is the first thing she sees when she walks into her room. She looks at it for a moment but then moves to the window when she hears the front door to the house open followed by the voices of the three men. She decides to stand out of side beside the window and listen.
"Thanks for having us over, Tai," Port said in appreciation.
"Yeah, you really gave me some tips if my kid ever grows up," Shori said as Yang raised an eyebrow in interest.
"No problem, you guys can come here anytime you like, you could even bring little Nozomu here if you want," Tai said.
"It may be a while before we return. There is still much work to be done at the school," Oobleck said.
"I hesitate to ask, but is there any word from young Miss Rose?" Port asked as Yang slightly peak out of her bedroom window.
"Not yet," Tai said with a sad frown.
"Have you thought about going after her? Trying to bring her home?" Oobleck suggested as Tai could only sigh.
"I've got to... look after some things," Tai then look to his daughter's window as Yang quickly went out of view and squeezes her right upper arm, looking dejectedly.
On the road in the woods with Ruby and Team JNPR, Ruby is looking on a map to their next destination. In the air are Bacchus and Monarch scouting from above.
"Come on, guys! If we pick up the pace, we can hit the next town before sunset!" Ruby said as she look up the map.
"Assuming it's still there," Jaune added as Pyrrha lightly elbowed him.
"Of course it'll be there. This one's supposed to be pretty big! Hee-gan...bayn-a," Ruby then look closer to the map with her eyes squinted.
"Higanbana. It's a well protected village with a popular inn," Ren said it for the redhead.
"Which means, no camping in the rain!" Nora cheered.
"It might actually be great to relax from all of the walking," Pyrrha said.
"You know, we've had a lot of ups and downs. But things could be a lot worse. I really thought we'd see more Grimm," Jaune said as everyone thought about it, and could agree.
"As did I," Ren said.
"I guess our luck is finally turning around!"
On a cliff with the five men team still in view, a lone figure watched them.
"To Higanbana!" Nora cheered.
"To Higanbana!" The rest of Team JNPR cheered along.
"To Higanban... ban-a!" Ruby stuttered a little as they continued walking forward with the two Flying Types still in the air.
A Beowolf stomps into view and growls at the five kids. Just as it is about to leap, it is stabbed through by Qrow himself. Three disintegrating bodies of other Beowolves are just behind him. A black raven caws from a tree branch on eye level with Qrow, catching his attention. He looks at it and it flies off, following the five teenagers.
Qrow scoffed and said, "Luck."
It's raining on the village of Higanbana. Through the window of an inn, the five kids are shown silently discussing with the proprietor. A backward zooms brings the visual out into the street, and through yet another window being viewed from the inside of a tavern. Qrow sits at a table, watching.
Suddenly a waitress placed a glass of liquor with ice in front of him as Qrow look in confusion.
"Oh, I didn't o—" "From the woman upstairs. Red eyes. Said you wouldn't mind bottom shelf," The waitress cut him off as Qrow turns and looks up. An overhead shot shows the spacious lower level of the tavern and its several round tables, while the edge of a balcony is just visible. Qrow turns back.
"Thanks," Qrow said as the waitress winked at him.
"But I went ahead and gave you top. Lucky you," The waitress said with a pleased smirk, Qrow watches the waitress as she walks away. After she is gone, he looks through the two windows to see no one visible in the lobby of the inn.
"Yeah," Qrow then takes his glass and heads upstairs. There he saw a woman waiting for him at one of the tables, a mask atop it.
She wears a shallow cut black and red dress with black shorts underneath, with series of beaded necklaces and a belt that wrapped around her waist and carried her weapon's sheath. Attached also is a long black object that is either fur or feathers, with a red and white bandana material like hanging from behind her. Her forearms bear red armored gauntlets that protrude outwards and black fingerless gloves. She wore black mid-thigh high leggings with red splatter patterns and black heels. She had long black hair and bright red eyes.
"Hello, brother," The woman introduced as Qrow stares at her from the top of the stairs for a moment before moving to her.
"Raven," He said back to the now named Raven as he pulls the chair that's beside her and drags it to a position across from her instead. With his hand on the back of the chair, he simply looks at her expectantly. Raven rolls her eyes and moves her mask to the side. Qrow sits down.
"So, what do you want?" Qrow asked/demanded.
"A girl can't just catch up with her family?" Raven said.
"She can, but you're not. Now how 'bout we get on with it? Unless you plan on keeping these comin'," Qrow said as he set his glass down.
"Does she have it?" Raven asked but Qrow doesn't answer right away, instead running his fingertip along the edge of his glass.
"Did you know Yang lost her arm?" Qrow asked.
"That's not—"
"Rhetorical question, I know you know. It's just obnoxious that you'd bring up family and then carry on like your own daughter doesn't exist," Qrow completely cut her off.
"I saved her."
"Once. Because that was your rule, right? Real "Mom of the Year" material, sis. At least a freaking electric lion did more than you." Qrow said as Raven leans forward and grabs Qrow by the forearm, stilling his sarcastic, nonchalant motions. The view slowly spins above their heads as she speaks intently to him.
"I told you Beacon would fall and it did. I told you Ozpin would fail and he has. Now you tell me. Does. Salem. Have it?" Raven said angrily.
"I thought you weren't interested in all of that," Qrow said as Raven glares and finally lets go of her brother and sits back down with a noise of disgust.
"You should come back, Raven. The only way we'd beat her is by working together. All of us," Qrow said.
"You're the one who left. The tribe raised us, and you turned your back on them," Raven rebutted.
"They were killers and thieves."
"They were your family."
"You have a very skewed perception of that word," Qrow said as Raven stands up, upset.
"I lead our people now. And as leader, I will do everything in my power to ensure our survival," Raven said.
"I saw. The people of Shion saw, too."
"The weak die, the strong live. Those are the rules," Qrow scoffed at that.
"Well, you've certainly got someone strong on your side. I've seen the damage," Raven then turned away.
"We couldn't have known the Grimm would set in as quickly as they did."
"I'm not talking about the Grimm," Still not facing Qrow, Raven looks up, eyes widening slightly at his words. "And I'm not talking about you, either."
"If you don't know where the Relic is, then we have nothing left to talk about," Raven said she reaches for her mask, Qrow grabs onto the top of it.
"I don't know where the Spring Maiden is, either, but if you do, I need you to tell me."
"And why would I do that?" Raven said as she pulled her mask out of Qrow's grasp.
"Because without her, we're all going to die," Qrow said. A moment of tense silence passes between them as a nearby lantern dies out till Raven scoffed.
"And which "we" are you referring to?"
Qrow grimaces as Raven walks away. The sound of her sword getting unsheathed is heard and he looks up, unhappy. Raven walks into her red portal and disappears. There's the sound of breaking glass and a gasp. Qrow turns to see the waitress, trembling at the sight of Raven disappearing. She takes a cautious step backward as she looks sideways at Qrow.
"Make this one a double," Qrow said as he gestured to his glass, and the waitress left to get his order. As she was now away, Qrow felt something moving on his pocket as quietly shush and pat it. "Soon bud, soon enough."
Back at Patch, Tai is outside the house, watering his bed of sunflowers. Yang comes out, wearing the robotic arm. She uses it automatically to shade her eyes from the sun, and then looks down at the metal hand interestedly, moving the fingers around. Tai stands.
"Okay. Let's get started," Tai said as Yang looked prepared.
Unbeknownst to them, perching by a nearby tree is Alpha the Pidgeot as he watch in content, and flew back to Vale.
An order that he wishfully follow.
Guard and keep a look out for Yang Xiao Long.

A happy smile and a waving tail was her only and already knew the answer.
"Hey Nora!" G. Vic then saw G. Team RWBY walking over to them as the young hybrid hide himself from the four female hybrids.
"Hey Nora! What are you doing here?" G. Ruby asked.
"Can't I look out for my little brother?" G. Nora rebutted as G. Vic slightly peak from her shoulder.
"Well... hehehe," Ruby nervously laugh as she rub the back of her head.
"You know that it was a stupid question," G. Weiss said as she then faced G. Nora. "So can we properly introduce to Vic?"
G. Nora look at G. Vic as he hesitated a little till he shyly nods. G. Nora then faced them and said, "Well sure."
G. Nora then placed G. Vic on the ground as the young hybrid hides behind her legs like a young child.
G. Ruby could only cooed at how adorable he looks, but G. Blake and G. Yang were quite nuetral since they were still angry to their first meeting.
"Hi," G. Vic in a higher pitched voice that only a young boy in his stature can produce, and G. Ruby couldn't take it anymore and ran up to him to give him a hug.
"You are just to cute~" G. Ruby cooed as she embraced the little hybrid, G. Vic was paranoid at first but he quickly relax at the light hug that he was receiving.
"Wow. Personally, he is always shy around people in this stage, but I am surprised that you did it instantly," G. Nora said in amazement.
"Really?" G. Yang asked in wonder.
"Big sister always scares them away," G. Vic said as G. Nora glared at him which caused G. RWBY to giggle a little.
"You know, you ain't so bad," G. Yang said as she tried to pet G. Vic, but he reacted negatively by trying to bite her but she quickly put her hand away before he could even take a bite. "Never mind."
"Well, he kinda always avoid people that he have bitten as its a reminder that they are the one's that scares him," G. Nora said.
"Really now," G. Weiss said in wonder as she then reach out her hand to pet Vic and openly accepts it.
"Okay that is bull..." G. Yang would've finished it if not for G. Nora glaring at her. "Poo. Yeah bull poo."
"Well let's continue our conversation on that tree," G. Nora said as the six of them were now talking below the rotten tree, and G. Vic gained new friends to play with.
