Chapter:21 Truths and Spies
Around a campfire, Ruby, Qrow, Jaune, Pyrrha, Ren and Nora sit on four logs positioned in a square. Qrow has just finished telling the story of the Maidens.
There is silence and Qrow takes a swig from his flask. He has a bandage wrapped around his abdomen over his clothing.
"Really? No questions?" Qrow asked as the teens were shuffling on their seats while Pyrrha look at her hands to avoid the other's stares.
"Of course we have questions. This is just... a lot to take in," Jaune said as Qrow sighed.
"Sure, of course," Qrow said.
"So these... Maidens... They're powerful fighters that don't need Dust to use magic," Ruby said.
"Yeah."
"And there are four of them?" Nora said as her Pokemon team were securing the perimeter.
"Yup. Always."
"Which means that, whenever one of them dies, the power transfers to someone - a female - that they cared about?" Ren added.
"Whoever was in their thoughts last. Important distinction. Best option is someone we can trust. Regardless, their souls become combined, in a way."
"And that's what you were trying to do to Pyrrha... the night the tower fell. You were trying to turn her into one of them," Jaune said with a glare as he was so worried for his girlfriend that day.
"The previous Fall Maiden, Amber, had been attacked. She was young, inexperienced. And her assailant, who we now know is Cinder, somehow managed to steal some of her power, but not all of it. We were afraid that if we didn't do something, the rest would go to her as well."
Jaune look at him in anger and said, "So you forced it on Pyrrha."
"No Jaune they didn't," Pyrrha said as she look down in shame. "They... They explained me to this, and gave me a choice. I... I was under pressure that day because I don't what to choose."
Jaune absorbed the new information and took a deep breathe, "I... I was really scared you, if I wasn't there on time then... Everything wouldn't be the same without you."
The two of them smiled and embraced each other.
"That guy, Tyrian- why was he after me?" Ruby asked as Qrow sighed.
"Well, you definitely painted a target on your back with what you did at Beacon. I told you having silver eyes is a rare trait. And the fact that you were able to use them seems to have upset some very powerful people. Not many people know about the silver eyes. Those that do aren't very happy that one has surfaced. That's why I've been keeping an eye on you in order to make sure you were safe. All of you," Qrow said.
"Well, then, why not just travel with us? It seems like that would've been way easier," Ruby said.
Jaune was about to say something but Pyrrha quickly stops it.
"Look, I wouldn't put it like that - it's complicated," Qrow said as Jaune faced him.
"What is all of this? Ruby's being hunted, the schools are being attacked, all for what?! What is the point of all of this?! Will you just tell us what's going on?!" Jaune demanded as he was really worried for their safety. Qrow stared at him and slouched over with a sigh.
"Will you calm down for a minute. You're stressin' me out, 'kid," Qrow said as Jaune slowly calm down and the drunkard took a swing of his flask, but quickly stop when it reached his lips. "Not many people are super religious these days."
He then closed his flasks and set it down as he faced the five teens.
"This world's been around for a long time, long enough that people have created dozens of gods. But if you believe Ozpin, two of them are actually real," Qrow said as he began to tell the story.
"They were two brothers. The older sibling, the God of Light, found joy in creating forces of life. Meanwhile, the younger brother, the God of Darkness, spent his time creating forces of destruction. As you can imagine, they both had pretty different ideas about how things should go. The older one would spend his days creating water, plants, wildlife. And at night, his brother would wake to see all the things that the elder had made and become disgusted. To counteract his brother's creations, the God of Darkness brought drought, fire, famine, all he could do to rid Remnantof life. Life always returned. So one night, the younger brother went and made something - something that shared his innate desire to destroy anything and everything."
"The creatures of Grimm," Ruby said as Qrow nods.
"You guessed it. The older brother finally had enough. Knowing that their feud couldn't last like this forever, he proposed that they make one final creation... together, something that they could both be proud of, their masterpiece. The younger brother agreed. This last great creation would be given the power to both create and destroy. It would be given the gift of knowledge, so that it could learn about itself and the world around it. And most importantly, it would be given the power to choose, to have free will to take everything it had learned and decide which path to follow - the path of light or the path of darkness. And that is how Humanity came to be."
"But... what does that have to do with us?" Ren questioned.
"Well, that's the kicker. See, the four gifts to mankind - knowledge, creation, destruction and choice - aren't just metaphorical. Each of them exists in a physical form, left behind by the Gods before they abandoned Remnant, and each of them is extraordinarily powerful. If someone were to collect all four, they'd be able to change the world. That's exactly what the enemy wants. The Huntsman Academies were created to train generations of Humanity's protectors, but they also serve another purpose - guarding the Relics. When Ozpin's predecessor founded the schools, he built them around the Relics to act as a fortress. Not only would they be easier to defend, but they would constantly be surrounded by trained warriors. The hope was that hiding them would keep mankind from using them against itself... and, of course, keeping them out of her reach." Qrow said but he wasn't finished yet. "But there is a story so old that no one even knows, not even historians today."
"What is it?" Ruby asked as Qrow smiled as he grabbed something out of his pocket and revealed something shocking to the teens.
A rather old looking Pokeball with a transparent top to show a rather scary Pokemon inside it rather than the opaque Pokeballs Nora have.
"That gods from another world also come here."
Blake stands on a second story deck outside her father's office. The broken moon shines over the house. Blake stares at her father's door, beside which hangs an empty birdcage.
"You know, you can always go in and say hi," The sudden voice of Kali, Blake's mother, startled the young Cat Faunus. Blake looked behind her to see Kali carrying a tray with a tea set on it.
"I don't wanna bother him," Blake said as she saw Fox the Staraptor about to land on the railings and she quickly make room for him. Kali smiled when she saw this and brushed her hand on his soft feathers.
"A father's never too busy for his daughter," Kali said to Blake.
"Not all of my friends would agree with you on that," Blake said but Kali kisses her daughter on the cheek and hands her the tray. Blake accepts it, but is a bit taken aback by being handed it.
"Here."
"What? Where are you going?"
"You've never been very talkative, but that boy you brought home loves to run his mouth. I wanna hear more about the adventures of Team RWBY," Kali said as she then walk away along with Fox.
"Kali? Is that you, dear?" Ghira called out inside his office as Blake gives a nervous start of surprise when she hears his voice. The tray shakes in her hands, and she lets out a quiet whine.
Ghira straightens some paperwork on his desk. The porch door slides open and Blake steps inside.
"Uh, hey dad," Blake said as Ghira look in surprise.
"Blake! Well, this is a pleasant surprise," Ghira said.
"I..." Blake was cut off when her father stood up.
"Please, come sit," Ghira said as he and hjs daughter both move to the oversized coffee table and lounge furniture, and Blake sets the tea set at the end where her father sits.
"Don't worry, I've got it. Sit down, sit down," Ghira said as he grabbed the teapot.
"I don't wanna keep you if you're--" Blake was cut off when Ghira began to pour them some tea.
"Nonsense, I've been cooped up in here all day," Ghira said as he put sugar to the cup near Blake. "You still take sugar, right?"
"Oh, actually, uh-" Ghira instantly pull back nervously.
"Oh! Sorry!" Ghira apologized.
"No, no no no, it's fine," Blake assured him.
"Oh, here, take this one," Ghira said as he gave her another cup, but she quicky got her cup.
"No, really. It's, it's no big deal," Blake said.
"You sure?"
"Positive."
"Old habits, I suppose."
Blake takes a sip of her tea and winces with a tiny exclamation of pain.
"Might wanna let it cool," Ghira said in worry.
"Right," Blake in slight pain as she sets the cup down on the table.
"So... is it... warm... in Vale?" Ghira asked as Blake look at him in confusion.
"Huh?"
"It just... seems like your outfit doesn't cover very much," Ghira said as he kinda questioned her choice of clothing.
Blake looks down at herself and crosses her arms.
"It covers plenty," Blake said.
"I mean, a little more armor might help. Don't you think?" Ghira said.
"I'm fine. I don't need armor. I can look after myself."
"I..." Ghira sigh and said, "I know you can. I'm sorry."
He sets down his own cup. Blake's expression saddens, and she looks away, bowing her head.
"Why?" Blake asked.
"Hmm?" Ghira look at her in confusion.
"Why would you say that?" Blake asked with guilt.
Ghira moves to be beside his daughter, going down to one knee and putting a hand on her back as he said, "Sweetheart, what's wrong? What did I say?"
"How can you still love me after what I did?"
"Blake..." Ghira then gets up and sits beside her on the couch, putting his arm around her. "Your mother and I will always love you."
"You were right. I shouted at you and yelled at you," Blake said with emotion as she look up to her father. "But you were right. I called you cowards!"
Remorsefully, she lowers her head closer to her father. He holds her.
"It's okay," Ghira assured her.
Blake pulled back and said, "I should have left the White Fang with you and Mom. I should've listened to you, and I'm sorry." She then turned away. "I'm so, so sorry."
Ghira turns her by the chin to look at him and then wiping a tear from her eye with his thumb as he said, "Blake, it's fine. We never held anything against you, and I never feared you would fail. The only thing I ever feared was that you would fall down the wrong path, and I am so proud to see you haven't."
Blake sniffed, "But I did!I was--"
Blake then look down again with guilt.
"And you pulled yourself out. You came back. There aren't many who possess that kind of strength and even fewer that have the courage to face their demons again. Vale,Mountain Glenn, Beacon - you confronted the White Fang time after time," Ghira said with pride.
"I didn't do it alone."
"No, you didn't. Which is why I wanted to ask you... why did you leave Vale? Why did you leave your friends behind?"
Blake sniffed again. "I..."
They then suddenly hear a scream and someone getting beaten up as they look to porch doors and wondered what it was.
Outside, Fox is standing on top of a beaten up Sun as said Monkey Faunus groan in pain.
"Did you have to do that?" Sun whispered but his only answer is a shrug from the Predator Pokemon.
Fox was about to fly off he saw a pair of familiar red eyes, and flew towards it, and leaving an escaping Sun.
Back with Ruby and her group, they are still by the campfire with shock faces.
"When do you have one of them?" Nora asked as Qrow put back his Pokeball.
"Since I was a kid, when I went hunting with the tribe and saw him, Hunch, I was really scared that day since I know he wasn't any known animal or Grimm. When he look at me with his bright red eyes, I flinch by his gaze, but he didn't attack me. Instead, when I tried to reach out for it and it quickly jump back in fear. I also jump back as well, but when I did it again. He let his head touch my hand, and instantly felt attached to him. On the next day, I would always meet Hunch again and again till the tribe finally suspected my sneak outs, and I felt fear that day. But Hunch gave me something, a Pokeball, he gave it to me and he pressed the button and he went in it. When the members of the tribe saw me, they hadn't saw Hunch because I hid him in my pocket, and gave them a simple excuse. Then after that, I always go somewhere privately to train with Hunch in battle, and learned new things more and more," Qrow then finished his tale as the give teens look in awe.
Ruby then decided to say her thoughts, "Also this she? The Queen? You mean Salem?"
"That's right. Not much is known about her. Quite frankly, that's not what matters. What matters right now is that she wants the Relics, and if she gets them, it's not going to end well," Qrow said.
"Not gonna lie, I'm not even surprised anymore," Jaune said with a sigh. "We only had Grimm to worry about, then the existence of Pokemon here, then possibly the Queen of all Grimm. Why hasn't no told of this?"
"Why aren't we in more of a hurry to get to Haven? Shouldn't we be getting them a message? What if they're next?" Nora said.
"The Headmaster over there saw what happened to Beacon. He's not dumb. He'll be on his guard. Besides, it takes time to mobilize forces like that. Do you really think they planned out that attack on Beacon overnight?" Qrow then points at Jaune. "And to answer your question, it's the same reason we keep quiet about the Maidens. If the whole world knew about the Relics, about Salem, there would be chaos. There'd be another Great War on our hands, and this time, you'd have to fight."
Jaune could only take a deep breathe while Pyrrha comfort him.
"Look, I had the same questions, too. But ol' Ozpin would always put his foot down. "We can't cause a panic." Heh, can't tell you how many times I've heard that. Salem's smart. She works from the shadows, using others to get what she wants, so that when it comes time to place the blame, we can only point at each other. She's trying to divide us - Humanity, and so far she's done a pretty damn good job," Qrow said as he lean back to see the broken moon and gave out a sigh.
"Alright, so what should we do?" Ruby asked as everyone look at Qrow.
Qrow chuckled and said, "I don't really know."
The teens all look at each other, surprised and nervous. They return their gaze to him when he starts speaking again.
"Ozpin has put a lot of trust in the Headmasters. Like I said, the schools are an important part of stopping Salem.Atlas is going to be on high alert after the last attack, and Vacuo is - well, Vacuo. It'll be hard to hire thieves and scoundrels to fight against other thieves and scoundrels. Take that, add in the fact that Cinder and her crew claim to be from Haven, and I think it's likely the next target. So, we're on our way to the Headmaster. Haven't heard from him in a while, even before the attack. I'm hoping he has the answers," Qrow said as he stood up, but grabbed where his cut was and groans. "Alright, I think it's time you kids got some sleep."
"Uncle Qrow?" Ruby said.
"What?" Ruby then stood up.
"This is a lot to take in, and it all sounds crazy, but... I'm willing to do whatever I can to help because I trust you. But why couldn't you trust me? Why couldn't you just travel with us, instead of this secrecy, and, and--"
"Look, this has nothing to do with trust. I-- It's a long story, okay?" Qrow said to her
"Seriously? Now you're tired of telling us stories?" Nora said in annoyance as Qrow stares at the fire in silence before speaking. As he talks he kneels down, picks up a stick and pokes at the fire.
"Did you know that crows are a sign of bad luck? Old superstition, but it's how I got my name. See, some people can absorb electricity and some people can burst into rose petals and some people are just born unlucky. My Semblance isn't like most - it's not exactly something I do. It's always there, whether I like it or not. I bring misfortune," Qrow then chuckle bitterly. "I guess you could call me a bad luck charm. Comes in real handy when I'm fighting an enemy, but it makes it a little hard on friends... and family."
While Qrow get up and still hold his side, Jaune wanted to make a snarky retort but Pyrrha elbowed her boyfriend to stop him. Qrow then stood on his two feet and walk away from the campfire slowly.
"Where are you going?" Ren asked.
"Taking a walk," Qrow said as he kept walking.
"There's nothing else you want to tell us?" Ruby asked.
A red-eyed raven lands on a tree branch with a quiet caw. Qrow looks at it, and it cocks its head, looking at him.
"Not tonight," Qrow said as he continued his walk.
He continues his slow walk away, leaving the five teenagers to themselves for a bit. The log he had prodded earlier rolls out of the campfire. Ruby watches Qrow, concerned.
Back in Menagerie, Fox the Staraptor is currently flying in the air till he saw the similar pair of red eyes by a balcony of an apartment and landed on ther railings.
The Predator Pokemon then got a good look to owner of those eyes.
It was a male Corvid Faunus. He has black hair, a bushy beard, a pair of red eyes, and black feathered wings. He wears a full black armor that covered almost every part of the body except for the lower part of the face.
"Good, you're here. Let's get inside," The man said as he open the door and went in, and Fox followed along.
As the two were now inside, they saw five other people inside. Two humans and four Faunuses.
The first one is a young man with spiky black hair, brown eyes, and a rather thin body. He wears a black jacket over a green shirt with a white V neck, he wears black jeans with green stripes and boots with the same color pattern. Finally, a neon green mask covering his face.
The second one is a male blue Lizard Faunus. He has short combed blue hair, sharp yellow eyes, and a long blue tail. He wears a black and blue tuxedo that is doubled as a wingsuit with yellow wings, black and blue pants and shoes, and black gloves.
The third one is a male salamander like Faunus. He has black hair, a moustache that formed a boomerang shape on his face with red tips, yellow eyes with black irises, and a teal tail with white on the tip. He wears a dark navy blue jacket with a cream colored middle and three red arrows pointing upwards on the chest, teal pants, and teal sneakers.
The fourth one is the only female and the other non-Faunus looking one in the group. She is a woman with short green hair, bright red eyes, and rather pale skin. She wears a beautiful white dress with a green underside, green gloves that covered the whole arm with it paling to white right at the end, white thigh high boots, a red tie, and a pair of white wing-like clips near her ears with white roses on them.
The fifth is a male white Rabbit Faunus. He has short white hair, red eyes with blue face paint underneath it, and a pair of white rabbit ears. He wears a blue and white jersey, red shorts with yellow accents, a pair of long blue socks, and red spikes shoes.
And lastly is a male gray Snake Faunus and the tallest of the group. He has short gray hair, red eyes, a long gray moustache and beard with spiked ends, and a long, rough, gray tail. He wears a full metal armor with rough edges, and a pair of blunt spikes near the neck, on the shoulders, and on the knees.
Currently the six of them are sitting by some sofas and chairs as they felt the two's presence, and the male human look at them.
"So you finally came," The teen said as Fox lands on one of the chairs. "You must wonder why you have some kind of familiarity with everyone except me right?"
Fox look around and nods.
"Well... They are Pokemons as well," The teen said as Fox look in shock. "Let me introduce ourselves. My name is Randy Ryunosuke, previous Champion of Galar, and this is my team."
"My name is Yunero, you might know my species name: Inteleon," The Lizard Faunus said as he has his arms crossed.
"Mine is Drago, I'm a Dragapult," The Salamander Faunus introduced.
"My name is Lanaya the Gardevoir," The only woman shyly said.
"Hey there chap, my name is David, David the Cinderace," The Rabbit Faunus introduced.
"My name is John and I'm a Steelix," The Snake Faunus introduced.
"You could already know who I am fellow flyer, I am a Corviknight and my name is Charles," The Corvid Faunus introduced.
Fox only perched there in shock to see them all human.
"You must thinking why they are like this?" Randy asked as Fox numbly nods. "Did your trainer get sucked into a black hole?"
Fox nods again as Randy sighed.
"Well it happened to me as well, and somehow. During my transportation here, somehow all of my Pokemon turned to humans when we finally exited the hole, and I saw them like this," Randy explained.
"Then we began to wonder around Remnant for information, and got some racists comments from some people because we look like a Faunus," Yunero said as he then scoffed. "Just being a human with extra ears and tail will get you instant racist comments. Like sheesh, they have problems."
"We then began to wonder why we were sent here and couldn't get any information at all, so we went for hiding for now and we stayed here for the time being," Charles said.
"Then Lanaya got a link from someone, and got some of the information we needed. So waited for someone that knows your Trainer so we could join with them," John said and Fox gave out some few caws that the Pokemon turned humans could easily understand.
"So what did he say?" Randy asked.
"He said that one of them is staying in Atlas, one of them is heading to Haven, and the other two is staying in Vale to help with the repairs," David said as Randy nods.
"Then we need to leave soon so we could join up with them," Drago said but Fox gave them some more caws. "You're guarding on of your Trainer's student. Then this is troubling, the White Fang is keeping watch since your arrival."
"Then we must protect her then leave," John said.
"But it would take a long time," Charles said. "We need to wait for the time for the Fangs to strike."
"I'm already watching over Khan and Taurus, so you guys focus on helping with the Belladonnas," Yunero said as everyone nods.
Randy then faced Fox and said, "You continue your watch. We'll wait for the right opportunity."
Fox nods and flew out the apartment building as he then saw Blake and Sun chasing a member of the White Fang, and decided only to watch.
The Fangs don't need to worry about them yet, but he wouldn't stay back for long.
Time for some aerial spying.
Back in Vale City, there sitting on a recliner by the balcony of an apartment building is a more mature looking Seier with longer hair and mature body. On her arms is a baby girl wrapped in red blanket as she hum in a soft tone.
She then suddenly stop when her eyes glowed.
"Another Champion will join the fight for the light, and a boy hidden from us will support within the shadows as he helped an injured bird," Seier muttered as she felt the child in her arms getting uncomfortable, and she quickly adjust her arm for the little tike.
"Sleep well my little hope, because there will be a bright future soon," Seier said to the child as the baby smiled in her arms. Seier then look to the broken moon as she took a deep breathe. "May they have guidance to this path they will take, for there will danger that they need to overcome and resist. May Arceus grant you strength."
She then stood up and went inside to see a sleeping Shori on their bed as she shook her head with a smile as she then put their daughter in her crib as she then join her husband in bed and slept peacefully.
And that is it for this chapter.
This story is going really well.
I really have high hope for this story to continue further as I can finally have a story that will reach the end of it. I could even have a sequel for this with another anime series. I just hope someone finally make a complete transcript of all the anime that I would use.
I'm just really tired going to someone's story to find the lines for it, but you need to go to another one if the other parts are not even in it.
Also, I thank Nitro zeus for sending me an OC of his own so I could finish the whole team. I will show it in the next chapter since I can finally be relieved that I don't have to use another of my Locke teams in it.
