Making the Best of It
Chapter 10
Wayne Manor
Following the Joker's apparent death, Bruce had distanced himself from Gordon and the GCPD. Believing it the best option to protect Gordon from the fallout.
Some politician high up in the state government demanded that a separate entity investigate the Clown Prince of Crime's death. But really this was all a smokescreen for the government to finally put an end to Batman's vigilantism.
It was obvious to Bruce, explaining his distancing from the police. Although, that didn't stop him from going on patrol, it was just swifter than before.
Stop a crime so fast not even the intended victim knew what happened. And then he was gone.
With the Joker gone, Bruce believed something worse would take his place. Explaining his even more vigilant behavior than before.
Diana didn't bring the matter up. She trusted him. She believed him, that he wasn't culpable for the madman's death.
Nor did she discuss with him the matter of his prison on the moon. She trusted his belief in humanitarianism, his enemies were being treated fairly and humanely.
Recently, their relationship has changed. Since they slept together once again, they somehow ended up in a "friends with benefits" situation.
Whenever she needed her 'itch' scratched, Bruce would offer to help her out. At the beginning, she refused to proposition him for sex, like she was some sort of escort needing some fun. But after the first few times she jumped him when he wasn't looking, her appetite for him insatiable because of hormones.
Bruce didn't think much of it, he was happy to help.
It provided him with an equivalent release and a distraction. He would be lying if he said he didn't like sleeping with Diana.
It was where he didn't have to think about anything. He could just be in the moment with her.
She, too, discovered the pleasantness of being with Bruce.
So, there they were in Bruce's bedroom, other times they were in Diana's bedroom, in a passionate embrace.
Covered by his bedsheets, concealing their acts. Diana straddled her partner the best she could given her protruding belly, their daughter growing more and more each day. Her body pressed against his chest as she rode him with abandon, the pleasure tingling her insides.
A sheen of sweat developed over her form from their rigorous activities. Her lips pressed against his as she took her pleasure from him.
Her hands cradled his head, fingers sliding through his dark locks as she rode him to a satisfying climax.
A silent gasp on her lips, as a jolt of electricity shot up and down her spine.
Her movements halted, as she collected her breath. Cheeks burning from their intimacy. She still hadn't bother to move just yet, enjoying the sensations brought to her by having Bruce beneath her body.
Panting, Bruce lightly raked his calloused hands down her hair to her back. This rendezvous winded him, to say she rocked his world would be an understatement.
The Amazon lightly pecked on his bare shoulder in series of kisses, silently offering her gratitude for yet another spectacular performance.
Eventually, her brain started working again. Her concern for their baby caused her to roll off him, a sheet wrapped around her chest, the back of her hand rested on her forehead.
With a pleasant sigh, she rolled over pressing her lips to his rugged cheek. She parted from him, in a happier mood than she was before they had sex.
She gathered her clothes that decorated his bedroom floor, slowly dressing, the fact that she felt Bruce's eyes on her as she dressed sent a tingle down her spine, enjoying the fact he was watching her.
Once fully dressed, she waved goodbye to him, leaving him alone once again.
This was how things usually went. Almost a routine now, one would accompany the other to their respective bedroom, they'd have sex and the guest would adjourn to their room.
At first it hurt the billionaire, but slowly over time he accepted that this was what she preferred.
And he didn't want to push her or alienate himself from her by voicing that he felt used.
This was enough. For Diana, he'd be anything she wanted—needed him to be.
The next few days were difficult for the pregnant Amazon. Her pregnant state unfortunately being a tad tough on her. The result was she had to work from home the next few days, it was nothing series, but Leslie suggested she relax and rest for a few days.
Her child was fine, Leslie just preferred that the mother be fine as well.
Bruce assured the older woman that he would make sure Diana followed the doctor's orders. To say the Amazon was displeased with him was an understatement.
She shared a few vulgar words regarding her thoughts on the matter with him and Bruce was stunned she knew such words. She even added a few insults from her homeland.
Bruce thought it best if he made himself scarce for a while, believing Diana would calm down if he wasn't around.
Unfortunately, that only aided in manifesting Diana's depressed state. Her depression hung over the manor like a dark cloud. Her brightness diminishing with every passing day.
Eventually, Alfred thought it best to voice his concerns to the master of the house.
"Sir forgive me, but I think it best if we do something about Miss Diana?" the butler voiced concerningly.
"What about Diana?" Bruce responded absentmindedly, going through his mail.
Alfred fought back the urge to reprimand the younger man for being oblivious to the woman's unhappiness. "Sir, shouldn't we arrange a baby shower?"
"We haven't done that yet?" the billionaire sounded surprised.
Stunned, the butler returned, "No, sir."
"I thought it was done already," the younger man stated, believing he missed it because he was busy.
"I believe it is just the thing to cheer up, Miss Diana."
"Hmm," the billionaire thought. "You're right," he agreed, dropping the mail onto an antique table. "But I'm not going," he stated firmly.
"Sir?"
"It's a woman thing. I don't want to be there. Don't baby showers have that diaper game and the candy or water guns shaped like male genitalia?," Bruce explained his stance.
"The latter belongs to a bachelorette party, sir." The older man corrected the other.
"Oh? Still. Not going. Can't you plan it and throw it?" Bruce posed the question to his oldest friend.
Alfred shook his head, "I'm terribly busy organizing that fundraiser for the children's hospital," he answered with remorse.
Lips pursed as Bruce was deep in thought. He went through the options and then he came upon one who was perfect for the job.
The only problem was, he's been avoiding her calls. As well as her husband's.
With a weary sigh, he picked up the phone and made a phone call, mentally prepared for the impending conversation.
Daily Planet
Pulitzer winner, Lois Lane-Kent, typed furiously on her computer finishing up an article that will expose the corruption in city hall.
Just as she was finishing up, her phone rang.
She answered without looking at the caller id, "Lane," she stated automatically.
"Lois. It's Bruce."
Hearing Gotham's favorite son over her receiver made the reporter's eyes widen. "This is a surprise. I was under the impression you were avoiding me and my husband's calls," she responded bluntly.
Ignoring her jab, Bruce continued, "I need your help."
"With?" she raised a fine curious brow.
"I'm sure you've heard from Clark regarding Diana," he mentioned.
She nodded, "Yes, Clark mentioned it. Congratulations by the way," she courteously congratulated.
"Thanks. I was wondering if you'd be willing to plan and throw her a baby shower?" he requested.
"Really? You didn't do that already?"
"No," she could hear him grumbling, it brought a scoffing laugh out of her.
Glancing at her packed desk, she uttered, "I'm not sure," voicing her uncertainty.
She quickly changed her tune when Bruce offered his unlimited card. "I'm in." Bruce offered sparing no expense for Diana's party.
"At the manor?" she proposed. "Considering your identities," she mentioned.
"Yes," he curtly confirmed. "Conditions are invite only people who know who we are," he dictated terms to her.
"Understandable," she absently said, jotting down notes for Diana's baby shower.
"Alfred will cater."
"Okay," she nodded again, writing more down.
"Clark can give you the contact info to who Diana's close with. I want Diana to be surprised," he surprised the reporter as she could hear a hint of hopefulness in his voice.
"Sure thing," Lois happily replied. Ever the reporter, she coyly, "Any chance I can get a comment on the death of—"
He interrupted the woman, "Diana and I were there for you and Clark when you had Jon. The least you could do is turn the reporter off for a while," he barked at her, mentioning him brought out the worst in him lately.
Visibly she winced, but offered no apologizes, she was who she was. "O-okay," she said awkwardly. "Anything else?"
"Can it be done in two weeks?"
"Uh," she glanced at her calendar, "yeah that works."
"I appreciate you doing this," Bruce admitted to her after an awkward pregnant pause.
Taken slightly off guard, Lois returned, "Don't mention it," a tiny smile crept on her lips. She paused and then said, "Bruce, these are the best times of your life's," she offered her advice for impeding parenthood.
"…Thanks," he hung up not long after that.
The brunette raised a slightly offended eyebrow at the abrupt hang up but paid it little mind. Looming over her computer she started planning a baby shower for her friend.
As well as pondering what gift she should get for the Amazon.
Days passed and somehow there was a leak in the superhero community regarding Diana's baby shower.
Many unexpected visitors and dropped off gifts at the manor were so frequent it was nothing short of a miracle Diana was still unaware of the whole thing.
What really got under his skin was the fact that Jason somehow got wind of it and sent a gift over. Bruce immediately donated it to good will, making sure it remained unreceived by Diana, much to Alfred's great disapproval.
"I won't have it," Bruce remained incandescent toward the Red Hood. "I won't have anything regarding Jason around my daughter," he made his obstinate stance know. "Don't try me on this, Alfred," he warned. "He went too far and he's out of second chances," they left that topic at that, much to the older man's melancholy.
Wayne Manor's unexpected 'guest' arrived in the form of Booster Gold. Bruce felt a headache coming on as he opened his front door and saw the twenty-fifth century 'superhero' on his doorstep, in his arms was a car seat sponsored by him.
"Hey, I heard about the little wonderbat and I thought I'd give you my gift ahead of time," the blonde-haired man excitedly spoke to the man. "Head's up, she's going to very important in history," he gave Bruce a spoiler warning.
Bruce was stoic as he recalled Booster's wedding gift and how all that turned out. Looking over his shoulder he shouted into the house deadpanning, "Alfred! Get the chainsaw!" he bellowed.
The time traveler paled, from the sound of Wayne's voice he was serious. "Well, I can tell this is a bad time. So, I'll just leave this here and be on my way," he placed his baby gift on the doorstep and flew away.
Bruce's eyes followed him as he left the property. He was serious about the chainsaw.
"Your chainsaw, sir" Alfred suddenly appeared behind him, chainsaw in hand freshly cleaned and ready for use.
Days later it was the evening of Diana's baby shower, miraculously she suspected nothing. Alfred and Bruce finished decorating the ballroom for the party. Streamers, balloons, buffet tables adjourned with all Diana's favorite foods and non-alcoholic beverages for the expectant mother and some wine and champagne for the guests.
They even put up a banner that said, "Happy Baby Shower!"
The colors were white and pale pink ranging from the balloons to the tablecloths. Lois used Bruce's card liberally for the shower and Bruce had to admit it turned out pretty good.
Guests should be arriving in the next couple of hours, with Lois arriving an hour before them. The easy parts had been handled, now came the hard part—getting Diana to dress up for it.
Consumed with watching a few movies on Netflix while being under doctor's orders to not work for some time, Diana seemingly was oblivious to all that transpired within the manor.
Content with being in her room on a Friday night, a bowl of popcorn resting next to her, her feet up on her bed.
Her state of dress was gray shorts and a red tank top, crumbs of popcorn decorated her shirt atop her baby bump.
A knock at her door interrupted her 'me time'. "Yes?" she called out to her unexpected guest. She was surprised to see Bruce enter her room; she was under the impression he was avoiding her.
She inwardly wondered why he was visiting her. Her first thought immediately went to sex, mentally she shrugged, she could go for some sex right now. Curious on trying that 'Netflix and chill' concept.
"Hey," he greeted her with an uncharacteristic smile on his face. "You busy?" he inquired.
She wordlessly gestured to her television.
"You want to take a shower and wear something nice?" he offered, leading her to something.
Blue eyes narrowed hotly, "I showered last night," she answered. "I haven't done anything to work up a sweat," she reasoned. "Why? Do I smell?" she asked heatedly, the sound of her voice making Bruce stiffen.
It wasn't his intention to upset her. Trying another approach, "I thought you could use some company. I know you've been in a dejected state for the last few days and I wanted to cheer you up," he explained, obscuring the specifics of the plans for the evening.
At the mentioning of company, Diana appeared to brighten up. As fast as she could, given the circumstances, she dusted herself off, the crumbs falling onto her bedding before she padded to the bathroom.
An hour later, Diana walked down to the ground floor of the manor, dressed in a sky-blue maternity dress with silver slippers.
Bruce guided her to the ballroom, she prodded him for answers, but he was tight-lipped, not wanting to spoil the surprise.
The double doors open automatically as the pair reached the ballroom. The raven-haired woman gasped as she saw the decorated ballroom. Balloons, food and streamers all devoted to her.
She's having a baby shower.
What surprised her even further was the fact that she saw, Lois, Dinah, Starfire, Kendra, Zatanna and Donna, of all people here.
"Surprise!" the women inside exclaimed.
"Wha-?" Diana's brain froze. Overwhelmed by the sudden surprise of seeing all these people here celebrating her unborn daughter.
She turned back to Bruce, who nudged her forward.
"Thank you everyone," she displayed her gratitude towards all of them for coming. She greeted Lois and hugged. "Thanks for coming."
"Wouldn't miss it," the reporter returned. "By the way, I planned all this, so I hope you like," she mentioned.
The expectant mother smiled, "I am. Thank you so much," she gushed.
Silently, Bruce retreated from the ballroom as night had just fallen and there was work to be done. Let Diana enjoy her evening with friends, while he kept their city safe.
The party was quickly in full swing. Diana couldn't remember the last time she laughed so much or truly enjoyed herself among friends.
Music blared in the background, but not too obnoxiously so people could hear one another talk.
Each person offered their congratulations and best wishes.
They ate fabulous food that made everyone crave more, especially the baby. She kicked inside Diana in delight as she got a taste of the nutrients and flavors from Alfred's cooking.
Diana rubbed her belly with her hand in gentle smoothing motions, silently beseeching her unborn child to settle down.
Eventually, the cake was served. Diana laughed as the cake was designed like a baby carriage.
Alfred watched and served the party as he relished in the fact Diana's spirits had been lifted so highly. A fond smile formed on his lips as he saw the Amazon enjoy herself in the festivities.
It truly warmed his heart to see her back in high spirits. The Amazon's presence shined a light within the manor that had lost its light some time ago.
Time passed and they got around to presents. They all sat at a round table adjourned with used plates, balloons, and a table piece.
Lois presented her gift to Diana first. It was a tiny white gift bag with pearl handles.
Eagerly, the soon-to-be mother peered inside. Moving the wrapping paper aside she discovered the gift and pulled it out for all to see.
Diana held in her hand a baby sized plastic white tiara with fake pearls decorating it. The gift brought a hearty chuckle out of her.
"Too much?" Lois joked, looking a lot like the cat who ate the canary. The daughter of a princess was still a princess wasn't she? Well that's what Lois thought.
"It's adorable," the Amazon princess laughed as she raised the tiara for all to see, bringing laughter out of the other guests.
She embraced the reporter and offered her thanks for the gift as well as planning this party.
Subsequently, the gifts kept coming.
Starfire had gotten a teddy bear for the baby.
Dinah had gotten her a car seat.
Kendra gave her an adorable set of blankets.
None bothered to go crazy with the gifts considering who the father was.
Next person was Zatanna. She handed Diana a tiny bag similar to the one Lois had. "Now this is more a you gift than a baby gift," the magician explained, as the pregnant woman accepted her gift.
Gingerly, Diana opened it revealing a lavender stoned bracelet. The stones appearing rugged and misshapen. She sent a curious look Zatanna's way, silently asking for an explanation.
Matter-of-factly, Zatanna justified, "It's a concealment charm. Wear that and no one will ever be able to make a connection between you and Wonder Woman. It's the most powerful charm I could get my hands on."
"Oh, Zatanna, thank you so much!" Diana happily accepted. "This was my biggest concern," she admitted. With this she wouldn't have to worry about any of her enemies figuring out was she secretly Diana Prince. Now Bruce and herself can breathe a little easier.
Most of the cooed over the bracelet as it's coloring was very appealing.
For some reason Dick showed up, which was a surprise to many.
"Hey, hey!" he greeted the women. "I'm sorry for interrupting but I heard about the party and I thought I'd give you my gift now since I'm heading back to Bludhaven later tonight," he explained.
"I'm happy you came, Dick," Diana returned.
The acrobat moved closer handing his gift to her. Intricately, the raven-haired woman unwrapped the box thus opening it. What she saw made her exhale adorably.
They were little onesies with half of Batman's symbol and half her own on the chests. She looked at the sheepish man, who rubbed the back of his head. "I had them made for the little bat," he confessed. "So, the little one knows where she came for."
The other women found the onesies adorable.
Diana leaned up at Dick and gave him a kiss on the cheek. "Thank you, I'll be sure to make sure she wears them," finding his gift extremely thoughtful.
The last one to present their gift was Donna. To say she was nervous was an understatement. She was invited by Dick, who got wind of a party in the making.
Diana and she weren't on the best of terms. Considering the revelation that she was created to kill Diana years ago, only for her memories to be changed so that she would be who she chose to be.
Diana had given her the cold shoulder around the time of the revelation unsure on what to do with her.
But eventually the two worked out their differences. Seeing as they are quite possibly the last Amazons in the world, considering Diana has lost her way to Themyscira and seemingly with no way to return, they were alone.
For all anyone knew Themyscira was gone and everyone on it.
Diana and Dick chatted with each other for a little bit, before he took some cake and made himself scarce.
Donna feeling crushed by anxiety considered sneaking out, only for one of the women to stop her.
"Where are you going, Donna?" Kendra couldn't help but say, noticing her sneaking away. "We're still doing gifts."
"Oh, uh, I was just…" she stammered, unable to find the words for a good excuse.
"Come on," Kendra pressed, lightly pushing the brunette forward back to group. "You haven't even given Diana your gift yet."
Resigned, she swallowed and chose to bite the bullet. She walked over to large horizontal box that contained her gift for Diana.
Effortlessly, she lifted her gift as she and Kendra walked back to the group. Nervousness danced inside her stomach. She inwardly scolded herself, this shouldn't be so difficult.
They had healed their rift, hadn't they?
But it wasn't like the two were very close 'sisters.' They were practically estranged for months.
Kendra lightly pushed her forward to deliver the present, "Diana, we still have one more," she announced, shining the spotlight on Donna.
The pregnant woman along with the other females chatting, focused on the other Amazon in the room. She suddenly felt bashful with all eyes now on her, she swallowed and summoned her self-confidence.
"Here Diana," Donna delivered her present at the expecting woman's feet. "I hope you like it," she said in strained manner.
Curiosity and a tad of eagerness guided the Amazon princess as she opened Donna's gift.
Inside the box was a white rocking horse with a matching wool mane. "Oh, Donna," Diana cooed, the sight of the gift touched her heart. "It's adorable." She reached up and gave her sister a hug full of thanks.
"Thank you so much!" she said in the other woman's ear, who returned the hug.
"You're welcome," Donna responded, a smile creeping on her lips.
They pulled back and Donna sat down with all of them and joined in on the merriment.
Alfred, a smile on his face from observing the scene from afar, was mildly startled as his phone vibrated inside his breast pocket. His eyes widened when he saw the message and who it was from.
Cave infirmary now.
Subtlety, the butler dismissed himself from the party, leaving the ladies to enjoy themselves.
Hours passed; Diana's elation had diminished marginally when she noticed a certain someone wasn't there anymore.
Most of the people had left, Donna was the last to leave only Diana stopped her, hoping to have a private discussion with her.
"Look I know we haven't been as close as I would have liked us to be, and I know that's my fault," Diana explained. "But I want to change that," she earnestly said to her.
Her declaration surprised the younger woman.
Reaching over Diana clasped Donna's hands, "We are most likely the only Amazons left in this world. We're friends—we're family," she expressed. "I would be delighted if we could be family again," she admitted, a faint smile of her lips.
Donna was completely surprised. She wasn't expecting this when she arrived for a baby shower. But she would be remiss if she was overjoyed about the whole thing. She's be alone for so long, wandering aimlessly from one team to the next one mission to the next. She didn't know what was real anymore. But she knew Diana was real and that was enough to make her uncertainty cease.
For now at least.
She squeezed Diana's fingers with her own, "I would like that very much," she admitted, uncaring that she sounded a little too enthusiastic.
Her enthusiasm brought out a complete smile from the pregnant woman.
"Good because my daughter will be ecstatic to have her Aunt Donna spend time with her."
"Aunt Donna," the younger woman exhaled, speaking just over a whisper, her heart skipping a beat.
They hugged each other once more, but this time they promised to set a date for the next time to see one another again.
Later she departed, after she helped clean up a little bit. Diana briefly tried to dissuade her, saying she would take care of it. Only for Donna to retort that she was pregnant and Alfred's nowhere to be found.
She pouted, unable to formulate a retort.
Her sister helped her clean up a bit and left, leaving Diana alone in that large house.
Immediately, she sensed something was wrong. A feeling trekked up her spine all the way to her brain, synapses exploded as dread washed over her like a cold sweat.
Something was wrong.
Following her instincts, she went to the one place where she knew everyone usually congregated in the Wayne household.
Especially lately.
Batcave
The elevator to the cavern beneath the estate came to an abrupt stop. Clad in a coat, she exited the elevator the moment the doors opened. Instantly, she felt the cool chill flow her way, she came to understand that Bruce prefers the cold climate for his underground sanctuary.
She didn't voice any objections regarding the climate, especially during this scorching summer season.
She padded past the garage, the car's rotating platform, the hall of armors, the trophy room, and then made it all the way to the cave's infirmary.
Logically the location of where Alfred and no doubt the second most important person in her world. She found Alfred hunched over a gurney that Bruce occupied stitching the man up once again.
His upper body was bare, dried blood dirtied his torso as Alfred struggled to mend to a stab wound to the younger man's right lower quadrant that housed a fair portion of his large intestine. Pain etched the billionaire's face as he winced with Alfred's every stich. A mild painkiller was administered but the butler needed Bruce lucid so that the older man would know of any repercussions forthwith.
"What can I do?" Diana made her presence known, offering her aid. Concern etched on her fine face as she saw the father of her child in pain.
Offering no reaction, Alfred gave instruction, "Get gloves and alcohol to clean the wound. So damn bloody I can't see anything," he ordered as his hands were busy keeping the flesh together so he can sew the man up.
Without missing a beat, Diana got to work. The dark-haired man grunted in pain as cool alcoholic liquid was poured over his throbbing wound.
"Sorry," she whispered to him, as Alfred finished the stitching.
Half an hour later, the impromptu nurse exhaled exhaustedly. They had just finished mending the wounded man.
She saw Alfred preoccupy himself with cleaning the medical utensils, sweat on his brow.
The operation was a long and treacherous one. Bruce was resting, antibiotics flooding his system to reduce the chances of infection.
Worry clouded her mind as she observed Bruce fast asleep in the infirmary, she knew he was mortal, prone to injury and disease, she's seen his scars, felt them.
She was aware that he danced with death almost every night. Especially, these days. But for some reason tonight, reality hit her full on like a bus. Is this what they had to look forward to? She being up at night watching him fight for his life while their daughter grew up, oblivious to their crusades? Would Bruce even be alive to see his daughter for the first time? The mere idea chilled her down to her bones.
A gentle hand on her shoulder interrupted her frightened thoughts. She turned her head seeing Alfred offering her his best reassuring smile, "Do not worry, Miss. Master Bruce has suffered worse injuries and came out stringer than before. He will recover. It's just always the ugliest when he's first treated."
Numbly nodding, Diana returned her gaze to the unconscious man, patiently she resumed her vigil of him.
Alfred made himself scarce, trusting the princess to watch over the man and alert him if he was needed further for the night.
He sighed to himself, and the evening was started out so lovely, he thought woefully.
An hour later, Bruce regained consciousness. Diana was on him immediately, offering him some water which he took languidly.
His gaze filled with regret as he watched her take a seat next to him, silently observing him, awaiting to give him anything else he needed.
Swallowing his suddenly parched throat before he uttered, "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to ruin your party," Bruce expressed guiltily.
"Bruce," she said gently, reaching over parting some hair off his forehead. "It was a lovely party. But it was a little spoiled because you weren't there," she confessed to him weakly.
Self-consciousness reared its head as she admitted to what she was feeling during the party.
"I didn't mean anything by it, Diana. I just thought it was more of a women's party than a man's," he confessed obvious shame hitting him.
A fine eyebrow raised itself," A women's party?" incensed at his phrasing.
The bedridden man immediately recognized his error, "You know what I mean. You see me almost every day," he reasoned.
Indignation rescinded as a playful smirk formed on her lips.
Realizing her playfulness, he laughed. Only to regret it as he winced in pain, his wounds acting up.
Regretting her action, Diana continued, "I was afraid, Bruce. This was celebrating our child and you… weren't there," she confided sadly.
Ashamed of his unintended actions, Bruce tried to dissuade her of those thoughts," Diana, I told you, I'm not going anywhere," he adamantly reconfirmed.
"I know," she rubbed her suddenly cold arm, looking away from him. "But I'm pregnant, my thoughts are everywhere."
"I'm not going anywhere," he repeated softly, making her look at him again. He reached up with his hand which was more effort than he cared to admit, grasping her hand in his, he squeezed tightly, almost reassuringly.
A fond smile crept on the Amazon's lips as she squeezed back. He smiled at her, a real one, well one that was characteristically him.
One he hasn't had since before Selina left him.
A feeling compelled her to act. She leaned forward pressing her lips to his forehead, kissing him softly and comfortingly.
A long minute passed before she pulled back, a calm look in her eyes, that smile never leaving her lips.
She squeezed on his hand once more.
Enjoying the time with the woman, Bruce smiled again before fatigue overcame him and returned to sleep.
