Chapter:42 A Bad Time in the Farm
Ruby stares at the moon through a window, sitting on the staircase. Snow is drizzling outside. Ruby checks on Blake, Weiss, and Yang, who are sitting on the rug and staring at the fire from the fireplace. Maria reads a book while sitting on the sofa and Oscar is pacing back and forth. Nomad and Mel just sleeping behind the three girls while their Pokemons are out.
After checking everything, they returned to the house as they saw everyone of Mel's Pokemon and were quite interested to them.
The first one is a bulky, bipedal Pokémon with pig-like features. It has a red nose, large bushy black eyebrows, and two tusks protruding from its lower jaw. Constantly burning flames cover the front of its neck and shoulders. It has short legs and thick arms. Its arms have orange upper portions while the legs have red upper portions. All of its limbs have black lower portions with thin yellow lines where the upper and lower colors meet. These lines are straight on the arms and spiked on the legs. The arms have red lines around the wrists and tufts of fur on the elbows. The hands are tipped with three claws, while the feet have two claws. A large, dark horizontal stripe on the chest of it has swirled yellow markings. Its small tail ends in a tuft of hair.
The second is a bipedal Pokémon with a dark, yellow-green covering on its back and most of the front. It has black skin covering its torso, tail tip, and thighs, as well as red talons and claws. Its large tusks, which resemble scythes, are black and edged in red, and are located on its upper jaw on the side of its mouth. Its medium-sized eyes are red with black pupils. Ridged plate-like skin travels from its back to its head region. It has solid armor and the legs and tail have a dividing line pattern. Its arms are quite small, with three digits with two elliptical triceps and biceps and circular elbows. Its hands are small and circular with small red claws. Its legs are formidable and strong with three-toed feet with a red talon on each toe.
The third is a bipedal, canine-like Pokémon with predominantly blue and black fur. It possesses a short, round spike on the back of each forepaw, in addition to a third on its chest. It has red eyes, a long snout, and ears. When its mouth is open, two pairs of pointed teeth, one in the upper jaw and one in the lower, can be seen. It possesses cream-colored fur on its torso and blue fur on its thighs that resemble shorts. It has a medium-length tail of the same blue color as well. It has developed four black appendages that hang down from its head.
The fourth is a Pokémon resembling a game bird. It is primarily dark gray with lighter gray markings. The light gray markings consist of a heart-shaped patch covering its face and throat, two patches divided by a lacy line on its wings, and intricate stripes with dark rimming on its tail feather. Its beak and eyes are yellow, and it has light gray legs with three clawed toes and a spur on the ankle.
It also has a reddish-pink wattle around its eyes. Long, ribbon-like growths from the wattle extend over its head and down past its shoulders. It also has a mint green underside with speckling towards the chest.
The fifth is a canine Pokémon. On its face, it has cream-colored fur that forms voluminous, white-tipped plumes and a three-pointed crest. The plumes are so long that they run the length of its body and bunch close to it. It has tufty, pointed ears with dark blue insides, a black nose surrounded by short black whiskers, and small eyes that are nearly hidden behind its facial fur. Its body is covered with shaggy fur that is dark blue along the back and grayish-blue toward the legs. Its face and paws are light brown, and each paw has three toes with white claws.
The last is a simian Pokémon that is primarily blue. Its ears are broad with light blue insides, and it has oval eyes and a small black nose. There are several tufts of fur on its head, which resemble dreadlocks. It has a white marking around its neck that resembles a ruff; and a cream-colored face, hands, arms, legs, and feet. Its hands have five fingers, and its feet have three toes. Its tail is tipped with a blue plume, resembling a spout of water.
They are Fume the Emboar, Blade the Haxorus, Yin the Lucario, Wing the Male Unfezant, Browny the Stoutland, and Vapor the Simipour.
All twelve Pokémon in the room are sleeping on any comfortable spot in the area as they either sleep or enjoying the fire while the Alolan Vulpix sleep next to Weiss, and U. Pichu sitting in front of Yang.
After checking on the others, Ruby stands up and walks toward Qrow Branwen. Qrow is sitting nearby the window with Hunch sleeping beside him, looking outside with his feet propped on the drawer.
"Storm's cleared up for now. We should be able to leave by morning," Qrow said to his youngest niece.
"That's good," Ruby said.
"No... I don't have a good feeling about this place, especially with me around..." Qrow said gravely.
Ruby looks down at a wine bottle on the floor with Qrow's hand hovering near it, then looks at him.
"Are you... okay?" Ruby asked as Qrow scoffed.
"Sure. Tell everyone to get some sleep. I'll wake you guys up just before sunrise," Qrow said as Ruby walks away as Qrow drinks from the wine bottle. Ruby pauses and looks back at him before narrowing her eyes downward.
Back in the other room, the fire continues to burn. The book Maria is reading has a "III" on the cover, with the other two volumes on a nearby table.
"It's a diary?" Oscar said.
"The head of this household, Bartleby. Apparently, he and several other families founded this little settlement to try and live on their own. It sounds like it worked, at least for a spell," Maria said.
"Grimm?"
"Just one of many hardships. Slowed down their farming, made everything harder... It's a shame, really. He seemed like quite the ambitious fellow, always thinking of new schemes to overcome the odds."
Ruby then walks in the room and said, "Hey guys. Qrow said we should get some sleep. We're gonna head out early tomorrow."
"Thank goodness," Blake said.
The others then get up to get ready to sleep while Maria gets off the couch.
"Hmph, the last thing you'll catch me doing is letting some kid tell me what to do," Maria said in a mimicking voice as she then scoffed. "Go to bed!"
Maria sits on an armchair, turns on the lamp next to it and continues reading from the book. Ruby shrugs and smiles before going to sleep herself. The fire continues to burn in the fireplace.
In Atlas, Vic and the Polendinas are outside the safety of their kingdom with the prototype Pokeballs in a box. Vic's Pokémon standing guard for any intruders that would come.
"Anything in sight?" Vic asked as Penny look around the frozen wasteland.
"There's something below the ground," Penny said as she points at the ground meters away from them.
"Is there anything that else?" Vic asked.
"It has Aura," Penny said.
"Its either a Rock, Steel, or Ground type then," Vic said as he then look at Bunta. "Use Earthquake but focus it on a single point."
Gamabunta nods as he walk in front of everyone and slammed his fists on the ground with a battle cry as the ground trembles from his power.
Then a large Pokémon came out of the ground which towered everyone.
It is a long, serpentine Pokémon with a silvery-gray body made up of rock-like sections, which can possess chips and scrapes from fights and tunneling. Three of those sections have long rock spikes coming out of them on either side. It has a massive head mainly made up of its large, wide jaw with sets of large square teeth inside. Along its bottom jaw are ridges. Several small, square lumps cover the underside of its lower jaw. Its eye sockets are slightly deep-set, and the eyes themselves are red. Its head has two long ridges going from the eyes up to the top of its head. The tip of its tail is conical with a blunt tip.
"Amazing," Pietro said in awe as he look at the large stone serpent.
"Penny," Vic said as Penny nods and she began to scan the Pokémon.

It is thought its body transformed as a result of iron accumulating internally from swallowing soil," Penny said with her new Pokédex function.
"We have our target! Everyone battle formation!" Vic shouted as he let out his weapon and the flag inside unfurled. Vic then focused his Aura as it covered his weapon and went to his Pokemons in a line of energy that began to empower them.
The Steelix then roared as it charged right at them.
"Bunta use Surf! Maru use Petal Dance!" Vic ordered as said two Pokemons went in front.
The Mud Fish Pokemon then created a large wave of water right at the Steelix with the Flower Pokemon creating a twister of pink petals.
The Steelix quickly burrowed down to the ground as the attacks missed.
"Kin! Gai! Get Ready!" Vic ordered as the Superpower and Loud Noise Pokemon stood in front of the group.
The Steelix then jump out of the ground to slam its entire body to everyone but the two muscles of the team grabbed it and tossed the Steelix away like it was nothing.
The Steelix would then burrow through the earth again as some rising stone indicates that its escaping.
"Penny! The magnets!" Vic shouted as he quickly jump on Temari while Penny through him a high tech chain.
Vic then began to swing the chains then threw it below as the magnet attached on the chain attracted the Steelix' body slightly out of the ground. Vic and Temari began to pull but struggled due to the Iron Snake Pokémon's weight. Gai and Kin quickly help pulling the Steelix by its tail while Kakashi using Quick Attack over and over again right at its head.
"Bunta! Maru!" Bunta then used another Surf to sweep the Steelix out of the ground while Konohamaru propelled the wild Pokémon into the air with Petal Dance.
Vic quickly get down to the ground with the chain on his hand as Kin and Gai grab hold onto it as well.
"Pull!" The three of them then pulled the Steelix down which crashed to the ground hard. Vic then look at Penny and shouted, "Throw one!"
Penny nods as she grab one of the prototypes in the box and threw it at the Steelix.
With the reinforced casing of the prototype Pokeball hitting the Steelix, it sucked the Iron Snake Pokemon inside it by a red beam and began to shake once.
Everyone then look at the Pokeball in anticipation as it shook twice.
They began to sweat as it shook thrice.
As they then heard a click, the group sighed in relief.
The Polendinas then went to Vic's side as the orange haired teen has the prototype on his hand.
"Now for the final test," Vic said as he pass the Pokeball to Penny.
The ginger girl took a deep breath as she then threw the Pokeball into the air and lets out a red beam towards the ground as it slowly materialize to the Steelix from before.
They stood in front of it warily till the Steelix look at Penny and it lowered its head for her.
They then celebrate to their accomplishment to their creation.
"It took us a lot of attempts to finally got that Dust crystal to finally stabilize, but its finally worth it," Vic said as when they reverse engineered the leftover Pokeballs, they have found crystals that us very rare in his world but its common in Remnant. They could see that the crystals used in the Pokeballs are heavily processed with multiple materials, but its components are easily similar to Dusts. AN:1
"It took a lot of Dust and research to get the right amount, but it is really worth it," Pietro said.
Vic then look at Penny and said, "What do you call it?"
Penny look at him confused till she finally realized what he meant in shock so she said, "Are you sure?"
"You did catch it and call it as a present from your boyfriend," Vic said with a smirk as Penny smiles at him. She then look at the resting Steelix and scanned it.
"Your gender is male so why not Chrome," Penny said as the now named Steelix let out a affirmative growl. The gynoid then smiled and hugged the Pokemon's giant face in joy.
Vic and Pietro smiled at this sight, especially their success and a friend for Penny herself.
By next morning, the fire is out. Sunlight seeps through the curtained window while Team RWBY, Nomad, Mel, and Oscar sleep on the floor. Maria rests on the armchair, still holding the book she was reading. Qrow sleeps on the chair by the window, still barely grasping the wine bottle in his hand. A couple other wine bottles are also on the floor. The bottle slips from his hand and clatters on the floor, causing Ruby amd Mel to wake with a start. They look around before rubbing their eyes and getting on their feet. Ruby walks over to the window and opens the curtains while Mel stretches.
"Close the window!" Weiss muttered in her sleep.
"Well someone needed their beauty sleep," Mel joked as he went on to wake up his Pokemons.
Ruby then walks over to the entrance hall and picks up the empty bottle Qrow dropped before walking over to her uncle.
"Uncle Qrow. Come on, get up," Ruby said as she shook her uncle's shoulder.
Qrow groans and muttered, "Leave me alone..."
"We overslept."
Qrow, still groggy, just lightly shoves Ruby away. Ruby looks at the empty wine bottle, and after a moment, her hand starts shaking. She angrily throws it against the wall, shattering it which startled Qrow and the Pokemons from their sleep.
"What?" Qrow said as he looks around, seeing Ruby stand before him and then to the shattered bottle. "Oh, right. Sunrise."
Ruby's angry expression softens, and she hugs her uncle.
"You know, you can talk to me about stuff. Yang too," Ruby said as Qrow hugged her back.
"Let's just get outta here," Qrow said as he gets up from the chair, with Ruby and Hunch following him.
Later on, the group moves outside. Weiss is seen using Myrtenaster to weld a metal ball to a makeshift trailer hitch attached to Bumblebee with the Alolan Vulpix just sitting by her side. Weiss, Blake, Yang, Nomad, Qrow and Oscar's pupils appear to be dilated, while Ruby, Mel, Vulpix, Hunch, and U. Pichu's are their usual size.
"There," Weiss said as Oscar and Blake can be seen sitting on the porch steps.
"Can we just go back to bed?" Oscar asked as he was tired along with everyone else.
"If we're all so tired, maybe we should make breakfast?" Blake suggested.
"You wanna make it?" Oscar asked her.
"Not really."
Ruby, Nomad, and Qrow push the flatbed trailer behind Bumblebee. Once it's in position, Ruby walks up to Yang.
"You guys got the bike ready?" Ruby asked but Yang just gestures to it.
"Well, it's done now. So let's hook this thing up and--" Qrow was cut off when he rests his foot on the side of the trailer, and the tire on the opposite side goes flat. He groans in frustration before checking on the tire.
"You people are just beacons for bad luck, aren't you?" Maria said.
"Not helping," Mel said as he look at everyone strangely.
Frustrated, Qrow just walks over to a nearby fence post and sits on the ground as Hunch look at him in worry. Yang and Nomad also sits on the ground by the well.
"I'm starting to think the universe just doesn't want us getting to Atlas," Yang said.
"Luck shouldn't even go this far of bad," Nomad said as he struggled to stay awake.
Ruby sighs and said, "It's just a flat tire, I'm sure there's a spare."
"It's not just that, it's everything. Storms, crashes, monsters..." Yang then sighs. "I'm so tired..."
"I just to go back to a comfortable bed," Nomad muttered.
"Me too. It feels like we're always having to fight to get by," Blake said.
"Yeah. But that's what we signed up for," Ruby said.
"We signed up to try and save the world, not just... delay the inevitable," Oscar said.
"Last night, I..." Weiss then held her arm and said, "I couldn't stop thinking - why are we even going to Atlas?"
Everyone shares troubled looks.
"Weiss, we have to," Ruby reminded her.
"Why?" Yang asked as she stood up. "Ozpin hid the Relics behind giant doors under enormous schools, but... how long would it take Salem to find a Lamp in the middle of nowhere?"
"What? The Grimm might--"
"They'd find it eventually, sure, but bury it or just throw it down the well, it would take years. It might not even happen in our lifetime. But we could be done with it now."
Ruby detaches the Relic of Knowledge from her belt, glancing at it before looking up at her teammates and Nomad, who appear to all have dazed looks as if they were in a trance. Ruby stares at the Relic one more time before walking over to the well.
"I am... really..." Ruby's eyes then began to dilate. "tired..."
"Ruby. Ruby!" Mel tried to call out to her.
Ruby starts to have the same dazed look on her face as she holds the Relic out above the pitch-black darkness of the well as Mel run up to Ruby to stop her. However, instead of dropping it immediately, Ruby hesitates for a bit before composing herself. She starts to pull the Relic back, but then notices a pair of glowing red eyes at the bottom of the well, startling her and snapping her out of her trance-like state and returning her pupils to their normal size. In her fright, she accidently drops the Relic into the well. Ruby and Mel helplessly watches it fall into the darkness below.
"Ruby! What in the world are you doing!" Mel yelled at her in shock.
"No! No! No! I didn't mean to!" Ruby said in shock as the rest of Team RWBY and Nomad continue to stare at her and Mel with dazed looks.
"Ruby, it's okay," Weiss said to assure her but to no avail.
"No! No, there's something down there! I saw it, it was looking at me!" Ruby said as she and Mel looks back inside the well, only to notice the glowing pair of red eyes are gone.
"What is going on with this place," Mel muttered.
Yang then placed her hand Ruby's shoulder and said, "Hey, it's okay. You just said you're tired. It's probably nothing. Now let's go."
Ruby swat her hand away and yelled, "What's wrong with you?! We can't just leave, we have to go down there! We have to get the Lamp back! Oh, what was I thinking?!" She then put her palm on her face in shame.
"All we have to do is fix this trailer. Hey, farm boy, check the shed for a spare," Qrow ordered.
"I'm not leaving without the Lamp!!" Ruby yelled in anger.
Weiss, Blake, Yang, and Nomad continue to dazedly stare at her.
Blake then sighs and said, "I'll go down with you..."
"We'll go down together," Weiss said.
"Might as come as well," Nomad said.
"Fine!" Qrow yelled in annoyance as he stood up. "Get the stupid Lamp. Oscar, fix the stupid tire."
Qrow heads to the house, passing by Maria on the porch.
"Where are you going?" Maria asked.
"Where do you think?" Qrow said as he shakes his flask and walks back into the house.
Maria just look down and said, "Stupid."
Maria takes a seat on the porch steps and continues to read another volume of Bartleby's diaries.
Team RWBY, Nomad, and Mel hop down into the well together, into a vast underground waterway system. Ruby and Yang take out their Scrolls and turn on their flashlights.
"Maybe the current carried it away," Yang said as they proceed forward cautiously. Weiss notices more tunnel openings along the path.
Back above ground, Oscar works on fixing the tire while Maria continues to read. She turns a page, and the words "I did it! I found my solution" are visible.
Back underground, Team RWBY continue sloshing through the waterway.
"Oh, come on, where is it?" Ruby said anxiously.
"Something is really wrong," Mel said.
"Turn off your lights and just look for the glow?" Blake suggested.
"Okay..." Ruby complied nervously.
Ruby and Yang turn off their flashlights, and Ruby pulls out Crescent Rose and proceeds forward with caution.
Back above, Maria continues to read, with the words "The huntsman pointed them out to me the other day." visible on the page. Maria narrows her eyes, reading more intently.
Underground, Team RWBY and the two Trainers continue their search.
"There," Blake said as the Liepard Faunus points ahead.
Ruby looks to the direction Blake is pointing toward and notices the blue glow of the Relic of Knowledge coming from a tunnel along the path. Ruby runs forward by herself.
Above ground, Maria turns a page, revealing an illustration of a humanoid-looking Grimm with its name on the adjacent page: "The Apathy". Maria gasps.
Underground, Ruby and Mel arrives at the tunnel, and finds the Relic of Knowledge on the ground. Ruby runs over and picks it up.
"Guys, I--"
Ruby and Mel then looks up behind the Relic, adopting a horrified expression on their faces. Multiple humanoid-looking Grimm of different sizes are bunched together. They turn their heads toward Ruby and Mel reaching their arms out to them. Ruby and Mel lets out a terrified scream with Mel being the loudest due to the passive effect of his Semblance, and the rest of Team RWBY and Nomad snap out of their trance-like states, their pupils returning to normal.
Yang gasps and called out, "Ruby!"
Ruby and Mel backs away and runs out of the tunnel. Yang, Weiss, Blake, and Nomad see them run out and approach the two.
"What is it?" Yang asked.
The rest of the team notice the skeletal Grimm slowly trudging out of the tunnel. Ruby takes out Crescent Rose and fires multiple rounds at them. One of the Grimm lets out an ear-piercing scream, causing everyone except Mel to struggle to stand.
"Guys?" Mel said as he look around confused.
"What is this..." Yang said as she began to weaken.
"My weapon... feels heavy..." Blake said.
"Run!"
From behind, everyone notice Maria appear.
"Now!" Maria shouted at them as she turns around and runs. Team RWBY and the two Trainers watch the Grimm start to move toward them.
"Go, go!" Ruby ordered as everyone turn around and run, catching up with Maria. They see daylight coming from the well, but more of the Grimm appear and block their path. Another ear-piercing scream is heard, affecting the five women. Ruby notices another tunnel entrance next to her. "This way!"
Everyone run into the tunnel. They continue to run through the complex underground passages while avoiding more of the Grimm's kind along the way. They then make their way to an underground room. However, Team RWBY, the two Trainers, and Maria notice a much larger group of the Grimm at one end of the room. They make a run toward the other way, but one of the Grimm lets out another scream, causing everyone except Mel to collapse on all fours.
"I can't... do this... I can't..." Yang said weakly as Mel glared at the horde and took a deep breathe.
"Cover you ears!" Maria called to them as they covered their ears.
Mel then let out a focused ear piercing shout right at the horde in front of them which blown them away to walls. As Mel continued shouting, Maria then gets back up, using her cane to support herself before collapsing again. On her fall, she feels a set of stairs in front of her.
"An exit. An exit!" Maria called out to them as Mel stop shouting in exhaustion.
Ruby looks up and notices the stairs leading up to the cellar door. Ruby crawls forward to Weiss.
"Come on!" Ruby ordered as she then hears a weapon drop behind her and notices Blake collapse to the ground, while the Grimm continue to inch toward her. "Blake... get... up!"
Blake's pupils then dilated as she muttered, "It's fine..."
Blake starts get her dazed look from before. More Grimm emerge from the entrance Team RWBY, the two Trainers, and Maria came from. Ruby looks on in horror and in her desperation, crawls and attempts to reach out towards Blake, who continues to lie down motionless. The Grimm reach their hands down to the Liepard Faunus...
"BLAAAAAKE!!!" Upon yelling out her friend's name, Ruby's eyes start to glow brightly, causing the Grimm to back away in pain. Blake gasps and snaps out of her trance, her eyes back to normal. Ruby helps her up while Weiss, Yang, Nomad, Mel, and Maria also get back up.
"I've got her!" Ruby called out to them.
"What just happened?" Maria asked.
"No time," Nomad said as he and Weiss run up the stairs and tries to get the doors open, but they do not budge.
"They're locked!" Weiss called out in horror.
"Out of my way!" Yang shouted as she runs up the stairs. The Grimm recover from their incapacitation, and another scream is let out. Team RWBY, Nomad, and Maria collapse once again. Yang tried to reach out for the cellar door but couldn't. "No... No...!"
Mel tired to push them back by shouting at them again but his throat slowly began to sore from overusing.
As the Grimm kept coming closer, Maria crawls toward Ruby, only able to see the world in shades of cyan.
"Ruby... what color are your eyes?" Maria asked.
"They're... silver..." Ruby said as Maria let out a gasp of excitement.
"You have a family? Friends?" Maria asked.
"What?" Ruby said in confusion.
Ruby looks up to see the Grimm getting closer with Mel slowly running out of breathe, but Maria lays her head down and covers her ears. From Ruby's perspective, Maria's next words sound slightly muffled.
"Don't think about them. Think about the people who love you. Focus on the thought of them, the way they make you feel. Focus!"
Taking Maria's advice, Ruby closes her eyes and concentrates. While Maria speaks, Weiss tries to budge the doors open, and Yang reaches out in desperation before falling under a trance, her eyes even more blank than before.
"Life... is beautiful. It is precious. And it must... be protected."
After focusing, Ruby opens her eyes, the silver gleaming. She sits up and her eyes glow brightly once more, driving the Grimm back and disintegrating them all. Maria, Mel, and Ruby stare in awe while Weiss, Blake, Yang and Nomad recover. Yang crawls up the stairs and punches the doors open with her prosthetic arm while firing from its gun. Team RWBY, the Two Trainers and Maria run out and find themselves in the basement that Ruby and Weiss discovered the day before.
"We're back in the house?" Blake said.
Team RWBY, Nomad and Mel then look at the bar and see Qrow leaning on the counter, passed out while Hunch is beside him looking at the group in surprise.
Ruby runs towards him as she began to shake him and said, "Uncle Qrow, get up!"
"Hey! Get off me! What are you doing here?" Qrow muttered with a slur.
"We're leaving, you idiot! Come on!" Maria shouted at him.
Maria runs out of the room, with Blake, Yang, and Mel following her. Weiss and Nomad looks back towards the basement entrance.
"Not yet..." Weiss said.
"Until this things are gone," Nomad finished.
Outside, Oscar has replaced the tire for the trailer and is filling it up with air with U. Pichu and the Alolan Vulpix watching him. The noise from the air machine muffles the sound of people crying out his name.
"Oscar! Oscar!"
"Oscar!"
Oscar looks behind him to see Yang, Blake, Mel and Maria run out of the house.
"Oscar! We have to go, now!" Yang called out to him as the farm boy look at them in bewilderment.
Back inside, Weiss and Nomad grabs a few of the alcoholic bottles from the shelves and throws them towards the basement, shattering them.
"Hey... Hey! What are you doing?!" Qrow said as he still slurs his words.
As more of the Grimm slowly start to come out from the basement, Nomad fired a round of bullets at them with his weapons while Weiss uses Myrtenaster and a glyph to send fire toward the cellar doors. Using the spilled alcohol, she sets the Grimm on fire.
"Now we can leave!" Weiss said.
"Then let's go," Nomad said as Weiss helps Ruby grab Qrow's arms as they drag him out of the room, and the young Trainer firing some more bullets to some more wine bottles to increase the fire and ran off.
"Stop it! Stop! What's wrong with you?! What's..." Qrow was cut off when he looks up, he sees the Grimm on fire still walking towards them. Qrow looks on in shock as he is dragged out of the house by his niece and her friend with Nomad just behind them.
Outside, everyone sits in the flatbed trailer while Yang starts up her motorcycle. She wastes no time driving away from the now burning house.
Yang continues driving Bumblebee down the snowy road with everyone sitting in the trailer being pulled behind her.
"The Apathy. They're not strong or ferocious. They drain your will to go on. Bartleby's estate was hemorrhaging money towards the end. He wanted to cut costs on Huntsman protection, but in order to do that, he needed everyone calm... always," Maria said.
"Managed to get two away from their pack. Hike back was miserable, but got the bastards in the cellar. Wife thinks I was out sealing the waterway entrance. I'll do it tomorrow and tell her the truth once these things take the edge off of everyone. I'm tired." Oscar read from the book.
"The next page proves that he did, but not before the rest of the pack followed their missing pair all the way home. My guess is they made their way beneath the estate through the water tunnels that Bartleby sealed up the next morning. Bartleby's plan worked," Maria then took the book from Oscar. "No one was angry or sad or scared. No one was anything. And then... no one was left."
Maria takes one more look at the final page of the diary, the last words written down being "I'm tired". She then closes the book and tosses it out into the snow, the cover having "VIII" on it, while the group continues to drive down the road.
"I'm... sorry for what I said... about giving up," Weiss apologized as Yang stops driving.
"Me too. We can't quit until the lamp is safe," Yang said.
"It's not your fault. It was those... things," Blake said.
"We felt so powerless," Nomad said in shame.
"Good thing I have a keen sense of hearing which made me ignore their attacks, plus with a little help from my headphones," Mel said as he pat his headphones.
"I should have known. The signs were all there, but I'd never seen an entire settlement withered away like that. I suppose my mind just isn't what it used to be," Maria said.
"Miss Calavera? How do you know so much about the Grimm? And in the tunnels, you knew exactly what to say to make me... to make my eyes do that. How?" Ruby asked as Maria smiles.
"Well, isn't it obvious, girl? I had Silver Eyes."

AN:1- That is the only reason that I could think of, its really impossible to focus light to something without something reflective, not to mention that the way of capturing is impossible if you don't add magic in the mix.
Anyways, I am clearly getting exhausted at how long it took me to what I need to change.
It's kinda is one of my big issues, its really hard to think of what parts I need to change. While I did succeed on letting Pyrrha lived, it made a big impact to the story that I need to change for the future chapters in the story.
That is why I work in advance because I want the time to let my mind think of what to do next along with relaxing it.
But enough of my issue, I know you guys are anticipating for Weiss to finally get the Vulpix but I don't want to rush it, I want her and the Vulpix to form a bond first then she can catch it.
And Penny catches a Pokémon! I really want our favorite gynoid to have her first experience as a Trainer in Remnant outside of Qrow. It was quite difficult to what Pokémon I would choose since they are pretty much in a frozen wasteland and Steelix is the only Pokémon that is part Steel and Ground which made my choice perfect because it can come out of the rocky wasteland without any difficulty.
Other Steel Types I saw is completely out because some doesn't really dig while the other Steel/ Ground Pokémon is an Alolan Dugtrio which quickly denied. I will not give Penny a trio of moles with hair!
I am also gonna skip the comics since some parts aren't really following the group, so I am just keeping following the show instead.
I am also not planning to rewrite this story because I really don't want to because I want to finally be free after finishing this story and have a small break.
