Chapter:66 Faults to Recover
Robyn cheerfully laughs, lying on the bed in her cell and examining her fingernails.
"You should have seen the look on Joanna's face. I don't think she'd ever lost a fight before that. At least, not fair and square," She said but was met with silence, Robyn sits up and looks over at Qrow, then to Hunch, and then Jacques, the latter of whom has his eyes closed while his arms is crossed while Hunch just sleeps. She then let out a sigh. "Tough crowd tonight. Guess Ironwood should have paid for better cell block entertainment."
Robyn stands up and stretches, walking over toward Qrow's cell. Her comment earns a small chuckle from Qrow while he stares at Clover's pin.
"And he smiles. Did I win?" She asked cheerfully.
"Hey, it's your game. I don't make the rules," Qrow said as Robyn loses her cheerful demeanor.
"I'm sorry for what happened. It wasn't your fault," She said with sympathy.
"It was, though. I made a deal with the darkness, and he paid the price. It was all happening so fast, but Clover wouldn't let up. Could have worked together against Tyrian if Clover just... But the thing that really stings? For the first time in awhileI thought, maybe, maybe I could be around somebody - anybody - without my Semblance making it… complicated. And now, it just feels like a childish dream. Gone... like everybody else," Qrow said with guilt as Hunch open one of his eyes while letting out a whine.
Robyn sadly looks at her hand, listening to Qrow and said, "Believe it or not, I know a little of what that's like."
She walks over to the wall between her and Qrow's cells.
"When people are worried you're gonna sniff out their secrets, they tend to push you away. It makes a real connection… difficult," She said as she places her fingertips to the cell wall, the Hard-Light distorting in reaction to her touch. She then pulls her hand away and looks at it.
"I..." A small beep is heard, and the door to the chamber opens. Qrow and Hunch look over to the door with Qrow clutching Clover's pin to his chest as Atlas soldiers bring Watts back to his cell, accompanied by Marrow and Harriet. "Never thought of it that way."
The soldiers toss Watts to the floor, and Harriet stands next to Qrow and Hunch's cell with her arms crossed.
"You don't get to keep that," Harriet said to Qrow while Hunch just let out a growl.
"I didn't kill him," Qrow just said.
"You keep saying that, but it was your weapon covered in his blood," She said adamantly as Qrow lowers his head and sighs.
"If you really wanna know what happened, mohawk, why not open this cell and take my hand?" Robyn speak up as Harriet scoffs and starts walking over to Robyn's cell, while Marrow locks Watts' cell.
"If I open this cell, it won't be to shake hands," Harriet said as Marrow looks over to Harriet, a worried frown appearing on his face.
"Yeah, because you don't care about the truth. You just want someone to be mad at. Easier than taking an honest look at what side you're on," Robyn said as Harriet narrows her eyes and quietly growls in annoyance. There is a tense silence as Qrow and Hunch watches the two and Harriet looks over at the security panel for Robyn's cell. Harriet looks at Robyn and shifts on her feet.
"Hare? What're you doing?" Marrow questioned as Harriet looks at Robyn, then at Marrow, angered. She pushes past Marrow, storming out.
"Nothing," She said as Marrow watches Harriet leave, then looks at Robyn, who walks back over to her bed and lies down with her arms behind her head.
"Well, that was… almost exciting," Robyn could only say.
"I say that was a great," The three then look at Jacques as he has his one of his eye open.
"Why do you say that?" Robyn said in suspicion while Marrow and the rest of the soldiers left.
"Because it gives an opportunity," Jacques said as he slowly slid his hands to his pocket, carefully not getting Watts attention, and grab a shrunken Pokéball that he hidden for a long time. The three were shock by this as Jacques just smirk. "We just need another."
Jaune, Pyrrha, Yang, Ren, Randy and Nomad drive their hover bikes across the tundra just outside Mantle, following The Hound up into a rocky chasm with Pyrrha trying to use her Semblance to slow it down while Nomad shoots it.
"It's going to lose us in these mountains! We can't keep up!" Jaune said as Ren's bike starts shaking, and he looks at the frost-covered display, to find its engine is losing integrity.
"I don't know how much longer these bikes can stand the cold," Ren said.
"I'm really wishing one of us could fly right now," Yang said as Pyrrha and Nomad kept shooting.
"No help here, I'm driving," Randy said as he really can't get his Pokéball when driving in high speed.
"Wait, hold on!" Jaune said as he deploys his shield on his arm and hits the brakes on his bike, moving back to drive parallel with Ren. "Ren, going to get you up there."
Jaune lifts his shield up with Pyrrha following along, and Ren leaps from his hoverbike to land on on both their shield. Ren quickly walk on Jaune's shield as the blonde charges the Gravity Dust in his shield and blasts Ren toward The Hound. As he flies through the air, Ren launches one of StormFlower's blade cables and wraps it around The Hound's hind leg.
"Nice," Yang said as she drove alongside the couple and highfives Jaune, causing Jaune to briefly lose balance on his bike. The Hound begins flying more erratically, slamming Ren against cliffs.
"Okay, not as nice," Yang said over the comms.
"He's slowing him down," Jaune said as he also talk on the comms. "Hold on, Ren!"
"I don't have much of a choice!" Ren said in annoyance as he shoots his other blade cable, wrapping it around a boulder to further slow The Hound. However, The Hound suddenly pulls up, causing the cable to come loose from the boulder, with the blade zipping past Yang and Jaune.
"Hey big guy! Take control!" Randy ordered as he stood on the hoverbike and Nomad quickly grab the handles. Randy then turn to his Specter Form as he threw a ghostly chain at The Hound to assist Ren.
The Hound would then slams Ren and Randy onto the ground and against pillars, continuing on its way through the chasm. Yang spots an incline to her left and drives up it onto a cliff parallel to The Hound, where she begins shooting it in the head. The Hound lowers Oscar from its mouth into its hands and flies faster, leaving Yang confused. The Hound then lets out a loud roar, and the earth begins trembling before a horde of Centinels emerge from the ground, cliffs and archways.
"Did it just call for backup?" Yang said in shock as a Teryx swoops at Yang, who leans away and drives over an arch. Down below, Jaune slashes Centinels in half as he passes them while Pyrrha fires at a flock of Teryxes flies behind them. Ren and Randy continues to hold onto their means of attaching themselves on the The Hound with Ren have one been detached from the gun. Ren watches what is happening on the ground, then looks up at The Hound, seeing Oscar pale and unconscious in its arms. Ren holsters his second gun and begins pulling himself along the cable toward The Hound.
A Centinel spits acid onto the engine of Jaune and Pyrrha's hoverbike. As they zips across a stone arch above, Yang calls out to them, "Jaune! Pyrrha!"
"Hang on!" Nomad called out as he sped up towards them.
A pair of Centinels twist around each other, heading straight for the couple from behind. Jaune sheathes his sword and leaps from his bike with Pyrrha following along with her weapons out, Jaune then uses his shield's Gravity blast to bounce off a Centinel's head onto a stone arch. He tucks, rolls and teeters on the opposite edge before Yang drives by and grabs him, swinging him onto the back of her bike. Pyrrha leap over the Centinel with Nomad ramming the Grimm out of the way so Pyrrha could land on his hoverbike.
"Get some!" Nomad yelled as he and Yang drives off the arch and onto a cliff, where a group of Centinels burrow up from the ground ahead of them. The two accelerates and expertly dodges past them, only for a Teryx to land up ahead. Jaune and Pyrrha pulls out a pair shield device and activates and tosses it. The device bumps into a boulder before deploying its Hard-Light shield, and Yang and Nomad rams the shield with their bikes, causing it to lean against the boulder and form a ramp. The bikes are sent flying over the Teryx's head before it can stop them. There are two Centinels behind the Teryx, and Yang and Nomad firesEmber Celica and Knockoff just before landing, sending their bikes into a spin and hitting the Centinels with their engines. Before they can regain control, the bikes slams into a rock. Their engines begins smoking, and a tank on the side of their bikes begins leaking a glowing purple material.
Yang and Nomad continues driving, dodging and speeding past Grimm on their way out of the chasm. The four of them sigh in relief, but when they look in front of them, their eyes widen with the realization that they are driving straight toward a sheer cliff. Yang and Nomad turnsl their bikes, and they topples over, sending the four of them and their bikes tumbling along the ground. The bikes slams into a boulder, while Yang, Jaune, Pyrrha and Nomad continue rolling toward the cliff. In an attempt to prevent their fall, Jaune, Pyrrha and Nomad stab their blades into the ground while Jaune holding onto Yang's hand, only for the four of them to fall over the edge, screaming.
Ren and Randy suddenly appears in the air above them, Ren firing StormFlower's cables while Randy threw his chain. One cable wraps around Jaune's sword, and the other wraps around Jaune's leg. Randy's chains also caught Pyrrha and Nomad by their arms. A Teryx flies toward the two, but Ren activates hisSemblance, hiding themselves. The Teryx passes by harmlessly. An army of Centinels and Teryxes arrive at the top of the cliff, only to turn and leave when they fail to sense anyone. Once it is safe, Ren deactivates his Semblance and looks into the distance to see The Hound flying towardMonstra.
"Well that was a bust," Nomad said as Randy hits him at the shoulder for that.
Weiss knocks heavily on the front doors of the Schnee manor, and soon after, the double doors are opened by Whitley, who looks upon Weiss and her friends in surprise with Neige. Ruby and Vic is standing with her, Blake and Mel is holding the still unconscious Nora, and May is keeping watch behind them.
"Come in quick," Whitley said as everyone quickly went inside. "What happened?"
"Everything went fine till it went to shit," Mel said as he and Blake lay Nora on the ground.
"I still can't believe that the General would resort to this," Whitley said with a frown while Neige let out a whine.
"Me either, I guess he had enough," Weiss said as Eis let out a whine of her own, as the heiress picked her up.
"Are there any rooms that we could use?" Ruby asked.
"All of the staffs are gone, so you can choose any. I still need to get mother out of her room," Whitley said as he then left with Neige.
Weiss has a look of worry but kept it in to focus for her friend, "This way."
Weiss walks away, and May lifts Nora and follows her. While Weiss and May exit the room, Blake walks over to Ruby, who is staring outside through the front doors.
"Ruby?" Blake said to her.
"I hope everyone's doing alright," Ruby said.
"If you're worried about Yang, you could always try calling her," Blake said.
"That's the thing. I did."
"Same," Vic added as Blake looked at him then to Ruby.
The two then showed their Scrolls to her as it actively calls Yang and Randy respectively.
In the mountainous tundra, Yang, Randy and Pyrrha gathers up nuts and bolts while Ren does nothing and Jaune and Nomad wave their Scrolls in the air in search of a signal.
"I repeat, if anybody can hear me..." Jaune tried to call as he looks over at the crashed hoverbikes, which has a trail of the leaked purple material in the snow leading to their damaged tank. He then let out a sigh. "We need transport back to Mantle."
"You think?" Nomad said to him.
Some time later, the five are trekking through the tundra, with Ren and Randy leading and Jaune and Nomad pushing the hoverbikes. The sun is beginning to set, and it is snowing. Yang is using her Scroll to keep an eye on theirAuralevels. Jaune's is at 41% but then lowers to 39%. The other four meters turn from yellow to red as Yang's, Pyrrha's, and Nomad's drops from 34% to 32% and Ren's and Randy's goes from 33% to 31%.
"We need to get out of this weather before the cold drops our Auras completely. How much farther to the outpost?" Yang asked.
Ren remained silent as he has an angry look on his face.
"Ren, how much--"
"I don't know," He cuts Yang off.
Yang looks back at Jaune and Pyrrha as they just shrugs. She catches up with Ren.
"I thought you said you saw it when you were up in the air," Yang said to him.
"I did, before I had to cut myself loose to help you guys," Ren said as Yang uncomfortably brings her hand to the back of her head, then lowers it as she speaks
"Yeah, you've brought that up a couple times now. Something you need to say?"
"Not really. Wouldn't want to waste any more time," He said as he walks ahead, while Yang stops with a small gasp. Annoyed, she catches up with him again.
"Oh here we go," Nomad said as Yang was now next to Ren.
"Hey! What is your deal?" Yang questioned him as she steps in front of Ren, stopping him.
"Don't worry about it," Ren assured her.
"Well, I'm sorry things aren't going smoothly enough for you," Yang said as everyone stop on their tracks.
"Guys-"
"They're not going smoothly at all," Ren said, unintentionally cutting off Jaune.
"I hate to break it to you, but that's part of being a Huntsman," Yang rebutted.
"Are you kidding?! We don't know the first thing about being Huntsmen. We clearly weren't ready," Ren angrily said as Jaune takes a couple steps toward them.
"Guys, stop it," Jaune tried to order them.
"Were wenotready when we saved Haven? When we took down a Leviathan? We got the Lamp to Atlas," Yang pointed out.
"And then we lost it! And after that, when we had to make real decisions, we got every single one wrong," Ren rebutted.
"Ren," Pyrrha also tried to dissuade the situation, but it was already gone to far.
"I'm not going to pretend like we did everything perfectly, but if we'd done nothing, things would be even worse than they are now," Yang defended.
"How could they possibly be worse? We are stuck out here while Salem has the Lamp and Oscar. We've got no plan, no army," Ren rebutted yet again.
"That's enough!" Surprisingly, it was Randy who shouted it as everyone look at him. "You two are acting like children, shouting to one another's fault when we have a situation in hand."
"You have no say to this, you don't even belong here," Ren said to him as everyone look at him in shock.
Randy then walk up to Ren as he suddenly grab him by the collar.
"Randy wait," Nomad tried to stop him, but Randy simply look at him to stop the huge teen.
Randy then look back at Ren and said, "If lives of everyone are at stake then I have a say on this. No matter how difficult it might be, I won't think of abandoning anybody. We are supposed to protect everyone from the Grimm and we have to do it."
Randy then let Ren go as he walk ahead more, leaving the rests look in shock. Nomad was first to shook it off as he look at the rests.
"He's right you know, while I haven't experienced the things the others had, I could still understand what they felt during those times," Nomad said as he watched Randy going further away. "When I heard their story, their joy, their troubles, their sadness, and their triumphs. I could see how they felt mature than us. They're journey molded them to what they are now, someone who knows the struggles and have conquered over it."
Nomad then began to push his hoverbike, before looking back to the others.
"We are still going to our own journeys, our choices would lead us to the end we can never know, we can only hope. We can never mature if we can't learn anything from it by doing it alone."
Nomad then continued to push as the others look at each other, with Ren looking conflicted, and they hesitantly follow.
'Oscar? Don't panic. We're going to be okay.'
Oscar began to regain consciousness as he look at his feet, which are hovering above the ground.
"Uh, what?" Oscar only said as he looks up to see fleshy walls, bone spikes, a bone staircase and a membrane door. Standing in the shadows of the doorway is Salem with a cloud of smoke hovering above her hand.
"My long-lost Ozma, found at last," Salem said as the smoke forms shapes of her daughters, all running in a circle and giggling. As Salem turns her head to look at Oscar, the smoke dissipates. Oscar's eyes widen, and he looks around and begins struggling. The Hound is holding him in the air by the back of his coat's collar while it holds U. Pikachu by his neck. Salem walks over to him.
"So small, this new host of yours. It's a wonder my Hound didn't break you along with your little friend here. It's been how many years since we saw each other like this, face to face? And nothing to say?" Salem said.
"I'm sorry the reunion isn't living up to your expectations," Oscar said in a way that is similar to Ozpin.
Salem suddenly grabs Oscar's face, her own face wrinkling slightly with a furious glare.
"You can pretend, boy, but you're not fully him. Not yet, at least," She said as she relaxes and lets go of him with a sigh. "Well, perhaps you and I can have a better working relationship. Oscar, was it?"
Salem then began to walk around the Hound.
"The Beacon Relic. My forces have been unable to locate the Relic beneath the school. If I know my Ozma, he has used some means of deception to hide its location differently than the others," She said as she stops next to Oscar and smiles at him, scratching The Hound's shoulder. "I need to know where it is."
Oscar then realized that that he has to keep the Relic hidden, so he said, "I... That's not something I know about."
Salem then stops as she walks away and said, "Of course. He would keep that one guarded as long as possible."
Oscar sighs, and Salem stops at the other end of the room.
"How about something easier, then? The password for the Lamp," She said as Oscar pauses for a moment, his eyes dart down then back up.
"The Lamp is all out of questions," Oscar answered, wanting to hide that there is still one remaining question.
Salem turns to face Oscar and smiles, before summoning a black orb of magic in front of her. The orb sends out a rainbow of magic beams, all converging on Oscar's chest, causing him to scream out and writhe in agony as U. Pikachu struggles to get out of The Hound's grip. With an intense glare on her face, Salem keeps the torture going for eleven seconds while U. Pikachu cried out to get her to stop., then lowers her hands with a frown, letting the magic fade. She walks over to Oscar, who is still squirming and gasping with remnants of the magic floating from the scorch mark on his chest.
"The lies come out of you so easily," Salem said as Oscar turns away, cowering, as Salem gently puts her hand to his cheek and gives a sweet smile. "Like-minded souls indeed."
She turns and walks away, heading back to the door.
"One of you is going to tell me what you know. I don't much care if it is you or Ozma. Either way, I'll finally have the Relic," Salem said.
"I won't tell you anything," Oscar said defiantly.
Salem turned to him as she hummed and the membrane door pulls open to reveal Hazel.
"Hazel?" Oscar said as he began to fear when Hazel walks over to Oscar, who weakly lifts his hand toward him. "Wait, wait--"
Hazel slaps his hands away and punches him, causing The Hound to drop him and U. Pikachu on the floor, but quickly restrains the Mouse Pokémon before he tries to attack.
"That was for Haven Academy," Hazel said as he kicks Oscar toward the wall which caused U. Pikachu to let out a cry of horror, then cracks his neck. "Everything that follows... will be for my sister."
Hazel approaches Oscar, while Salem watches.
Salem and The Hound walk together through a hallway inside Monstra. There is a low, rhythmic beating in the distance. As they turn a corner, they encounter Cinder, Roman and Neo. The criminal duo having their Pokémons in their Pokéballs.
Cinder kneels and addresses Salem, "Your grace, I--"
She then noticed The Hound.
"What... is that?"
Salem scratches The Hound's chin and then scratches behind its ear. It appears to enjoy the scratching.
"An... experiment. So far I am pleased with the results," Salem said as she then loose her cheerful tone. "Did you need something, Cinder?"
"Yes, I… I want to search for the Winter Maiden. I think--" Cinder said unnerved, but slowly falters.
"Do you hear that, my pet? She thinks. She wants," Salem said mockingly as Salem stops scratching The Hound, and she and her Grimm walk past Cinder. "As if she's done something that warrants me caring about either of those things."
Frustrated, Cinder stands up and turns to face Salem and then begins following her.
"We're just sitting and waiting. Without the Maiden power, the vault means nothing. Let me claim it for you," Cinder said in a pleading manner.
"I will tell you when and where you are needed," Salem said as she glances toward Cinder, unamused.
"But your grace-"
The Hound turns and roars at Cinder, frightening her. Salem stops walking, keeping her back turned to Cinder.
"I would like to think I have shown a great deal of patience over my many years walking Remnant. But I do hate repeating myself," Salem said as she look over her shoulder to look at the False Maiden. "You will remain here. Is. That. Clear?"
Cinder stares for a moment, then adopts a more docile tone and kneels, lowering her head.
"Yes, yes, of course. Without you, I am nothing," She said as Salem resumes walking away, and The Hound follows her. Cinder stands back up with an angry expression, Roman and Neo steps up beside her with the mute raising an eyebrow.
Shortly afterward, Cinder is walking through another hallway, with the criminal duo following her.
"So that's it?" Roman questioned.
"I know what she said. I just wanna check on something. We'll be back before anyone realizes," Cinder said as she begins descending an incline toward the docking bay. Roman and Neo, looking unconvinced, Neo uses her umbrella to float down, putting her hand on her hip as she passes Cinder while Roman just walk ahead.
"I wanna see if anything is still going on at Amity Colosseum," She assured the two.
When Neo reaches the wing of the airship she, Roman and Cinder arrived on, she tiptoes across it and then drops down to sit on it with one leg crossed over the other.
"Salem doesn't know those children like I do. They wouldn't just abandon their misguided attempt to save the world," Cinder said.
"Then what are you gonna do?" Roman asked as Cinder stands at the edge of the dock, then turns to look at Roman Neo, who quickly look away. Cinder growls in frustration.
"If she doesn't want to, I'll come," The sudden voice of Emerald surprised the three as Roman and Neo look at Emerald with Neo narrowing her eyes, and Emerald walks forward. "I've been working on my Semblance. I can help.I won't tell anybody.
There is silence for a moment, as Cinder thinks it over.
Cinder let out a frustrated sigh and said, "How much did you overhear?"
Cinder then walks over to Emerald.
Night has begun, and there is heavy snowfall over the Mantle tundra. Inside an abandoned outpost, Jaune hits a furnace until it lights up with Pyrrha and Nomad standing by the fire. Ren is staring out of a window with his arms crossed.
Jaune let out a sigh and said, "You know that I cheated my way in Beacon right, Ren?"
Jaune stands up and walks over to Ren, standing beside him.
"And I'm glad that I had people around me to help me see that I was bigger than that mistake. You've got people around you, too. You don't have to force yourself to be strong. The more you hide from what you're feeling, the more alone you're going to feel. Trust me," Jaune said to him but Ren glances at Jaune, then uncrosses his arms and walks out of the small building, shoving the door open. Yang and Randy are standing by the door, having just returned, and Yang sadly watches Ren leave. She holds up a purple canister.
"If anyone cares, We found a part to fix the bike. So, yay. Good news," Yang said to try lifting the mood while Randy sat by Nomad. Yang walks over to a workbench, and Jaune turns back to the window to watch Ren sit down beneath a lamp post. "I really hope that Randy didn't took it hard, Ren should've been careful with what he said."
"We're all under a lot of stress right now. I used to push people away too, maybe some of us did before," Jaune said as he wondered about Randy's attitude before.
Yang turns to the workbench and begins using a wrench to put the canister inside a piece of the hoverbike. After a bit, she pauses.
"Do you… think she thinks less of me… for not helping out with Amity?" Yang asked.
"Ruby is your sister, she's always going to love you even if you disagree with each other," Jaune said.
"Yeah. Ruby…" Yang said as she resumes fixing the bike part, and Jaune sighs and lies down in one of the bunk beds with the others following along.
"We need to get some sleep, but I can't stop thinking about Oscar," Jaune said.
"Don't worry, we can still save him," Pyrrha assured him as Jaube smiled a little.
"She's right. Right now, we need a plan of action," Nomad said as Yang puts the wrench down and walks over to the window.
"Go on with your talk. I'll make sure Ren doesn't brood himself to death out in the cold," Yang said.
"Just becareful out there," Jaune said as Pyrrha embraced him.
Down the hill from the outpost and a fair distance away, the ground has begun cracking and noises can be heard beneath it. Suddenly, the cracks lengthen and then expand.
And that's it for that chapter.
Just like always, I will be talking about the story that I would make after the hiatus for this story since Volume 9 hasn't come out yet. I am still waiting for it so I could continue the story till the end. If the next Volume haven't come out yet, I have to make another story to keep myself busy.
I am doing the Pokémon Adventures x RWBY Crossover first since the manga needs to be seen by people that doesn't know about the manga that much.
Still on the GSC sections so I am using the first four main characters and I love them. While I love Red x Yellow, I am somewhat a Red x Blue fan myself, and I couldn't help but feel that Red is a dense Harem protagonist along with Ash. Along with a thing I really love, Red is Ash's father, so like father like son? I know that many disagrees with this, but I really can't help that the anime and manga are somewhat connected. Let a guy dream along with other people who have the same dream.
The second would be Fate x RWBY and I have different ways I want to do it, characters having Servants, or Chaldea has somewhat entered Remnant like a certain fanfiction I read before.
I also want to redo my old RWBY fanfic where I have my OCs in Remnant, but I am removing the overpowered ones with my fanmade RWBY characters remaining.
I also have two stories where my overpowered OCs are involved, mostly on BNHA and RWBY. The BNHA one is gonna be like that story where it is a Crossover with Fate and the Servants are taking over in a good way, I'm gonna do it in the same way. The RWBY would also be the same, but it would be inspired by another Crossover with Fate with a certain fanfiction writer that made really amazing stories.
And that is all I have to say, so I'm just gonna see you guys on the next chapter, and I hope you guys like this one.
Vic out Peace.
