Third person pov:

Four months since they began construction of both roads from the twins to the Kingsroad and Seagard, and they were a day away from the completion of it.

Walder has convinced people in his lands to do crop rotation, and introduced a wooden plow pulled by an ox or two but only a few people in his lands are able to do this, he hopes after awhile it will become common in his lands.

He has started to refit and retrain the guards in the twins themselves.

Refitting his soldiers with leather lined Viking helms that have face plates, chainmail beards going full around it, gambeson shirt that ends at their knees, sleeveless steel cuirass with steel pauldrons, steel greaves and vambraces.

They were given oval shields that were big enough to protect head and chest. They armed with eight ft steel spears, steel short swords, steel single edged dirks, and everything had the house Frey sigil on it.

Walder was having a meeting with his uncle.

"Uncle, I know we can't beat any with numbers, so we beat them with quality, that's I want are levies trained every year for one month, refitted, retrained, and reordered." Walder said

"But Walder it costs money to refit are levies." Lord Myke said with a huff sitting down

"It's not like we're making full sets of armor, we're making vambraces for arms, greaves for calves, pauldron for shoulders, cuirass for chest, helmet, and wooden shield, all these things are easily fit for any wearer." Walder said, sitting up from his chair

"I would say we're reordering are levies, since the was no order before, this how we're ordering them for every thousand is a legion, for every legion there is ten groups of hundred is a cohort, for every cohort there is ten groups of ten is a century lead by a centurion." He said, staring at his uncle slight anger

"No need to get angry, we can afford this easily as long as there is no mistakes, and you should consult the maester Harran." Lord Myke said

"Now retraining for the month will be marching eighteen miles a day, practice formations for battle and if there are surprised attacks, and setting up camp everyday and they will do this for one month every year, so that we're more prepared than any other river lords, react faster." Walder said, leaning against the desk

"I can train them, but this will only be apart of our army what about the thousand knights that serve House Frey." Lord Myke said

Walder thinks for a second, "No new gear since that have full armor and horses, only change is that they will train a month after the levies are trained." Walder said

"Uncle when you leave can you have a servant get maester Harran." Walder said, sitting back in his chair

His uncle left the solar, a couple minutes later maester Harran came in, he was a balding man with grey hair, aged face wearing the standard maester chains and grey robes.

"Maester Harran, can our coffers handle the stress of my plans and actions?" Walder asked, he motioned for Harran to sit down

"It's not they can or can't handle the stress milord, its that is this a good investment of your coffers." Harran said

"You know what I've learned since becoming lord and before everything takes too damn long, travel and trade through my land slow and irregular, and I'm pretty sure that when I call levies it will be slow." Walder said, leaning out of his chair

Pinching the bridge of his nose, "I know I can't have a standing professional army; I can have a semi professional army that is better equipped, and better trained than most lords." He said, sitting back into his chair

Walder grabs three sealed letters from his desk.

He held them out for the Maester to take, "Have ravens send these letters." He said

Harran too the letters, "Who will I be sending them to?" He asked

"Top one is to the Mallisters of Seagard, the middle one is to the hand of the king, and the bottom one is to the Reeds." He said, waving his hand for Maester to leave

Maester Harran walks out of the solar.

Walder pulls out a leather-bound book, flipping it open grabbing a quill he starts to write.

Walder pov:

It is still weird living in a world where nobility is prevalent, and the majority of the world can't read, write, or think beyond what their told by a septon or lord.

The first steps of my plan are to have paved roads built too funnel trade from the north and Seagard to the twins, my "uncle" says that house Frey can call four-thousand men, three-thousand levies and thousand knights.

For the future events I need better fighters, I can't sustain a professional army, so semi professional will have to do train every year for one month. I want more from this world, I can't expand outward, so I'll have to improve quality wise in my lands.

Even if I improve quality, I don't think I will be satisfied with what I have or will have.

Yours truly, Walder Frey, lord of the Twins
