230 After Conquest
Third person pov:
It has been a week since Walder's uncle left with the 100 hundred men for the Iron Bank and Essos to set up the accounts and the mercenary company.
The day after they left, they began construction on the bathhouse inside the Twins.
That same day the first group of boys was sent to the compound they would become the huntsmen.
They will be taught to be versatile unit, trained to fight with quarter staff, long sword, long axe, dagger, spear, recurve bow, crossbow, horse riding, and how to swim. They will choose which to take as their personal melee weapon.
They will be taught a more in-depth education of math, reading, writing, and history. New subjects such as economics, warcraft, medical skills and etiquette.
The training would consist of dueling the teachers, each other or straw dummies. They had calisthenics workout, running, and slapping water training.
Their training would end at 16 years old and then they will be given the choice to leave or stay.
Walder pov:
I wish to make my dream a reality in this pit of a world, first comes wealth, then comes influence, and finally power. The power to alter the world around me.
I never understood why in those fanfiction stories would bring gun powder or democracy to this world.
A knock from the door broke me out of my day dream.
"Come in." I said, sitting up in my chair.
Alora came in with Octavia in her arms, Visenya and Nymeria around her legs.
"Papa!" They both yelled, running to me.
"My little stars!" I said smiling, grabbing both of them.
Sitting back down with them on my knees, Alora pulled a chair up across from me rocking Octavia.
"When do we get to fight like you and Momma?" Nymeria asked, playing with my fingers.
Glancing at Alora, she was staring at me with expectant eyes.
"Your training will begin when you both turn seven the same as I did." I said
There was a knock at the door, "Come in." I said
Maester Harran came in with a stack of letters.
"Maester good that you're here, today the girls will begin math, literature, history, and etiquette lessons." I said
"Yes milord." He said, placing the stack on my desk.
"Girls go to your lessons with Maester Harran." Alora said
Nymeria and Visenya left with Maester Harran.
"Walder when you said they would begin training were you serious?" She asked
"I will not deny them the right to defend themselves, but I hope they will never have to use it." I said
"They will be taught the art of war the strategy of it and the martial side of it. They will still be taught lady etiquette." I said
"If you weren't going have them taught to fight then I would've done it." She said
"At least you're not having them taught by a septa." She said
Getting up from my chair, I started to pace.
"I wouldn't have their heads filled with ideas of chivalry, the wrongness of bastardy, and or how they should act as ladies." I said
"That is for me and you to decided as their parents." I said, holding her hand.
Sitting back down in my chair.
Cracking the letters seals, spent the next couple minutes to read them.
"Alora, how would you like to visit your father?" I asked
"What's behind this decision since I know you are terrified of my father?" She asked
"I was only scared of your father a little it was mostly you." I said
"I want to establish business interests in the north and beyond the wall and wouldn't it be good for your father to meet his grandchildren." I said
"Me and are children aren't going beyond the wall." She growled
"Neither am I. I'm just going to hash out deal and if yes then plan the posts out." I said
"When will we be going?" She asked
"Two months from now gives Maester Harran, Jarrad Rivers, and I to develop plans and blueprints." I said
She got up to leave.
"I'm going to send a message a head of time to my father." She said
"I thought house reed didn't have a maester or ravens."
She walked to the door stopping at smiling.
"We crannogmen have are ways while you southrons have your gold and stone castles, we have something much more powerful." She said, walking out.
She must be talking about warging or green seer I forget what exactly a green seer is but I know a warg shares the body of an animal of some kind.
Ringing a bell on my desk a guard stepped in.
"Yes milord." He said
"Tell maester Harran to come to my solar after he is done teaching my daughters, he is to come to see me." I said
"Yes milord." He said, leaving the room.
Time skip:
The was a knock at the door.
"Come in." I said, writing out plans.
Maester Harran came in taking a seat in front of my desk.
"You asked for me lord." He said
"Yes, I want to discuss a few of plans and ideas." I said, handing him a piece of parchment.
He looks at them for a couple minutes.
"What is this engineers corps?" He asked
"It is a group of thinkers that will come up with innovations and or inventions to improve ways to do things, but they have to be useful and if so, they will get paid." I said
"This list of ingredients and steps?" He asked
"The first step is how to make lime, burn lime stone and then the lime can be for cement making and steel forging a better flux." I said
"Milord all your vassals are gone then why do you need these forts." He said, looking at the blueprints.
The blue prints were a simple moat and bailey with thick wooden walls filled with compact dirt in them. Two main concentric hills one for the bailey and another for the keep. The moat was filled with sharpened wooden poles.
"The forts are trade posts I want to build in the north and beyond the wall along with a dock for the ships." I said
"Milord we can't build these forts its winter now, and you can't just take land from the north disturbing the king's peace!" He yelled, getting up from his chair.
I glared at him, he sat down slowly.
"I would like to remind you that you're a maester that means you are to do as your told." I said
"And I'm not going to be taking land, I will be making a deal so I can set up posts and if they dash the forts in the north then build just a walled town with towers." I said
"There only in planning now, in two months I'm going to talk to the starks and their vassals and when winters over I will begin construction." I said
"Maester I think that is all, go to the forges and have the smiths start making, using lime in the steel, and stockpile a small supply of it." I said
He got up to leave, "Bring some guards with you just in case." I said
