CHAPTER XLVIII
Jötunheimr, the world of the jötnar was a place completely hostile to life. Its inhabitants had made many sacrifices to survive after the "great cataclysm", but along with their desire to survive, hatred had also been a reason for them to patiently build a new world. A world whose sole purpose was revenge. Patiently they had accumulated enough resources so that their ancient hatred could be brought to reality.
Now millions of years of preparation were about to end, soon their insidious plans could come to an end.
It was a large space, completely devoid of decorations and furniture, a place that looked like the interior of a machine, designed only with practical considerations, and not designed for the presence of people. The equipment lacked any covers and protections. In the minds of its designers that was a waste of resources, it only mattered that it could work.
Near a large window was the figure of a demon looking out, immobile, like a living statue.
He was Anang Reng, immobile and devoid of the will to move, he had been a silent witness to the elaborate preparations. He had seen everything. An immense army being organized, an army that possessed powers capable of exterminating gods and demons. In the distance, he could see factories where combat weapons of unimaginable power were created. they were weapons that endowed warriors with shields that rendered both magic and curses useless. Neither gods nor demons had the ability to deal with such a force. It was the result of eons of dedicating all their ingenuity and resources to design weapons capable of counteracting any powers gods and demons could have. On top of that there was also an insidious plan to weaken and collapse their societies. Once the invasion began, all resistance would be crushed, humiliated, and then a systematic extermination would proceed using the cruelest methods they had planned after centuries of deliberation on the subject.
Each stage was coldly planned to provoke as much suffering as possible. Such was the hatred inside the jötnar.
Anang Reng felt his heart freeze. He had fought for what he believed was the best way to return the lost pride to his people against the influence of the gods. But now he was just one more gear to reach their almost complete annihilation. He had been promised that he would rule a small number of survivors… just knowing that he was part of the plan was worse for him than death.
But his mind was subdued, he knew that they had left him just a fragment of his consciousness for the purpose of humiliating him. If only he could break his mental chains, but every time he tried to free himself, his mind was subjected to new and cruel torments...
-"I see that you still have some will power" - He heard a harsh and deep voice behind him- "That's why I thank you for serving us as entertainment. But soon your suffering will end, in a short time we will have a few million more toys."
Anang Reng tried to move... but his body did not respond to him. He tried to fight, only to receive pain in return, lastly, using all his willpower he managed to emit a single word, barely audible.
-"Why...?"
-"Why?" - The being laughed cruelly- " And you have to ask? Did you know that your kind purposely erased the reason out of your minds. Do you know how humiliating that is? We were superior to you, but now we don't even exist in your memories. Your kind reduced us to nothing. But you will pay a thousandfold. Facing the pain that we will cause you, you will have to remember... and then, as we exterminate you one by one. Your people will beg our forgiveness. In the equivalent of 1 Earth year, Heaven and Hell will be ours. As they always should have been and we will also take on the mortal world, it will allow us to have eternal power, of course, after sterilizing it. I doubt that you want to keep any of them as a pet. Be patient, soon everything will come to an end. "
In the Tarikigonhan temple it seemed that caos had befallen. Sentaro was carrying Skuld in his arms, and quickly tried to explain what had happened.
Without much waiting Shugahara took the young girl from his arms and carried her to Urd and Belldandy. The goddesses hastily attempted a healing chant, but the young goddess did not respond to their efforts. Shugahara said to Urd.
- "I think we need a bigger power. We have to ask Hild sama for help. "- Urd bit her lip and nodded. - "Hild sama, I beg you to help us. This will conclude our contract. "
The lady of Hell looked at him with a slight smile and said:
- "Mortal, what do you expect me to do? "
- "Please prevent the hidden directive from activating, it seems it´s something similar to what happened to Wotan. With the things Dr Kawazu explained to us, I think you could stop her. Fortunately it is not on the same level as the one that affected Ghadril. "
- "Very well mortal" - The great demon smiled and said - "However... this will not pay off my debt." - she smiled looking at Urd- "If I don't help her Urd would never forgive me for not helping her sister."
Hild stared at her daughter, waiting for an answer.
- "Mother, I beg you, you will have to intervene in her and block her last memories, but that's a level that is beyond my knowledge."
Hild smiled, the word "mother" that Urd said more and more easily gave her comfort.
- "Back everyone. I will have to use magic powerful enough to break a Norns protection. "- Then she looked around and spoke aloud-" You, the being called Galileo. I will need your help to locate the code and block it. "
- "Yes milady Hild, I will assist you in the disassembly."
Hild traced a large magic circle on the floor. With her authority as the great Daimachio of Hell, the magic circle possessed a high level magic. She order to Shugahara to put the unconscious goddess in the center. Immediately the young woman began to float. To Sentaro's terror Skuld's body seemed to be snapping at the waist. After a few moments in the space between, her divine code began to be seen. Shugahara took the young man by the shoulders to reassure him, while Urd hugged Belldandy.
At a Hild´s commands the code sequences of the young goddess began to unfold in the room. Hild had observed the tools that humans had used to save Wotan and had now made them their own.
Then Galileo's voice was heard.
- "I managed to identify the dangerous routines. They are intertwined with various subroutines and modules. We cannot eliminate them without damaging the modules. "
Galileo had placed markers in the exposed code of the goddess. These appeared scattered everywhere.
-" Yes, I can see it. How insidious it is! Any attempt to remove it can cause damage. What do you suggest?
- "We can patch it."
- "Patch it?, I don't know that term. What d'you mean with that?
- "It is a technique used by some humans called hackers. We can rewrite some lines of code so that it modifies the operation of the routine, without having to eliminate it. For example, that section of code causes fear as soon as you try to remember certain memories. Instead we could redirect to a null routine, or to the code of happiness. "
Hild smirked.
- "Witty, I would like to meet one of those hackers. So let's start locating conditionals and changing the functions they execute. "
- "I will proceed to mark the decision tree, for you to patch all possible options."
Slowly, with Galileo´s help, different entry points were marked in the Skuld´s code that was floating around the room. Behind her everyone watched Hild's manipulations expectantly.
Hild smiled and using the marks from the AI began patching the routines so that their activation became harmless.
There were thousands of code segments to patch. It was an indication of how deep these routines were embedded in the goddess's code. It would be slow and painstaking work.
A few hours later, with an elegant gesture, Hild finished her work:
- "Urd chan, Belldandy. It is your turn. You can reintegrate her code and apply a healing chant to avoid any side effects. "
Skuld's body had reintegrated and began to descend. Sentaro took her lovingly in his arms. With relief painted on their faces, Urd and Belldandy sat next to her and began a beautiful healing song. Hild pointed to Kenji and Keiichi.
- "We need to talk, I need a meeting with all your sages and leaders. If only we could convince the stupid gods to participate. Now I realize the danger that lies in wait for us. "
Hild headed for the garden, but her walk was unsure. Kenji approached, ready to help her, but she brusquely rejected him. He asked with concern reflected on his face.
- "Hild sama, are you alright?''- She looked at him angrily, but after a few moments her countenance softened a bit.
-"No, no, I'm not well. The same routines that were activated in Skuld are being activated inside me, I am trying to block them. "- Keiichi and Kenji looked at her in horror, but she looked down on him."

- "I have analyzed the entire procedure. Although the code snippets can change position, they all have tags that identify them, we can create a worm that runs as part of your own code. "

-"Indeed. It is a small standalone program that runs within a system taking advantage of some vulnerabilities, it can be used to harm, but also to repair. "
Hild moaned, but containing the pain she said.

Hild tried to answer, but a stab of pain stopped her, then without saying anything else she finally reached out to Kenji and Keiichi for their help. The two men lifted her up between two and carefully led her to lie down in Keiichi's old room where they laid her down on a futon. The mighty Mistress of Hell cringed and went into fetal position and with one last effort cried out:

Her body tensed as the magic ties held her tight, suppressing most of her magic. She needed to contain her power to keep it from spinning out of control. In his private cubicle inside the Nidhogg facility, Walharen was in the midst of a lively conversation.

An hour later in the Tarikigonhan temple, Hild was still lying in Keiichi's room, she had ordered that no one enter so that they would not see her in that state, but she could hear voices outside the room.

They were interrupted by another voice. It was Kenji:

Hearing that, Ms Rosenthal got a light blush and said apologetically.

Urd brought a small vial to her lips. Hild was weak but made an effort to drink it. Instantly she felt a heat that embraced her body, and seconds later she lost consciousness.
At the Chiba University, in the Materials Research Center a magical dimensional portal began to materialize. Dr. Yukiko Ohta as always, kept taking notes and checking her measuring instruments. The phenomenon fascinated her, even though it was already a common sight. Step by step she kept deciphering its secrets
She felt the already familiar unfolding of space/time and the portal to Hell's universe appeared. The young students from the university rushed to greet the demons that came from Hell for a new batch of moon bracelets.
In contrast to the fear and mistrust of the first meeting, there was now a feeling of camaraderie between demons and students. However at this moment some of the demons looked a little nervous. Behind them appeared a young demon, with marks of high rank. It was Walharen, who was watching the entire procedure nervously. This was his second visit to the mortal world, the first had occurred at an extremely delicate moment and apparently this time it would be the same.
With respect, the highest ranking demon officer led him to Dr. Ohta and introduced him.
-Dra ohta, This is our superior, Walharen, first class demon, supervisor under direct orders from Hild, he has instructions to verify that everything is in order and to offer the respects from the great Daimakaichō.
Immediately the demon walked away from him leaving him alone. He had resented to have an inspector without warning. Walharen couldn't help but watch as he seemed to forget about him to merrily mingle with mortals.
To Walharen, mortals still seemed strange beings and did not understand them. The stern gaze from the woman in front of him didn't help. Without taking his eyes off the notebook she asked:

At that moment Walharen remembered the young Valkyrie's instructions. He approached and said in a barely audible voice:

At that, Dra Ohta looked at him in amazement, she left her notebook to look him in the eyes, that sounded suspicious.
- "I didn't know that demons and gods could be friends. "I find that hard to believe." Do you have any evidence? "

Shugahara became thoughtful. Through "the grid", Galileo already had access to the computing resources of all the scientific organizations in the world, but so far they had limited themselves to using only the information network. Using those resources meant stopping a lot of scientific research. However, the combined capacity of all of these computing centers far exceeded the capacity of the HPCI.
- "I will talk to Gyrid and Dr Kawazu. We are going to have a lot of angry people, but there must be some way to make up for them. "Galileo", give me a diagnosis of the computational capacity accessible on the grid. Could you take advantage of it? "

She heard footsteps approaching, it was Kenji.

- "It is a relief to hear that, now we just have to wait for my mother to wake up. The worm apparently managed to accomplish its tasks. She is no longer in pain and is relaxed, but she is very exhausted. The struggle consumed much of her power, I put on her one of the new moon bracelets, the model the gods asked for Kamisama that contains much more energy and seems that slowly she is recovering. But I did come to fear for her life. "
Kenji put his hand on Urd's shoulder to comfort her.

Urd hugged her mother who accepted her without protest.
- "Thank you daughter, I still feel weak, as much as I find it hard to accept it, I will have to depend on you."
- "Hild Sama, you must still rest, we cannot entertain Wotan much longer, and I don't think we can hide what happened to him."
- "It won't be necessary. Urd I need you to make more of that potion. Much more. I begin to realize about the chains that tie us. Wotan must drink it and then we must set my people free ... "
- "More potion? How much potion do we need? "

At the Materials Center in the Chiba University, Dr. Ohta waited patiently for the new portal to open. She had just recalibrated her equipment to adjust for differences. The doctor smiled imagining how much different was that from the imagen of demons the old humans tales painted. While now she knew lots of demons, this was on a whole new level.
Suddenly she felt the impact of the energy from the heavenly portal. She was fascinated by the differences and similarities between the two portals. Her current work was trying to understand the difference.
She verified again her instruments were working and then went to the portal to receive the gods. An extremely young Valkyrie was the first to appear. She even seemed younger than the rest of her squad, yet was exemplary in her conduct.
- "Hello Trud. Welcome back to earth. "- The young Valkyrie stood in front of the mortal woman and adopted a martial salute

Dr. Ohta knit her eyebrows in surprise. While there was a certain flow of information with heaven, until now the gods had been quite reluctant to exchange, unlike demons. The exchange from heaven had been reduced to old legends and stories, while the information they had been sent to them seemed to have been simply ignored.

The young Valkyrie froze for a moment... She didn't expect Dra Ohta not to know the importance of the chancellor and she whispered apprehensively.
