It was a bright morning, as the blue sky was overhead. The new building loomed in the distance, as it was visible from the freeway. A green colored coupe was driving down towards the exit, as the car entered the city.
A welcome sign was visible, as the car drove past it.
"WELCOME TO BUSHNELL, UTAH!" the sign screamed, as it showed a cityscape background with a crescent moon at the corner. It was heading directly by GPS to the Mountain Elkwood Lofts, an apartment building in the middle of the city.
"You're listening to 99.7 FM, where we have some more local news for the day. Fazbear's Entertainment is to open the new Freddy Fazbear's Mega Pizza Plex later late next week, after the company conducts a rehearsal day later this week. So far, the public in Bushnell is expressing interest and concern at the tourism that the new family entertainment center is bound to draw in, though CEO Neal Bundy explained in the press interview that the new attraction will bring back interest in the state of Utah for tourists. Reports from locals on social media have posted that Fazbear's Entertainment has brought in possible celebrity guests, including influencer Heather Myers." the car radio blared, as the coupe was starting to pull up at the parking lot of the apartment building. The car radio was switched off, as a young woman exited the car.
The landlord Carl was already at the front desk, when he heard the front doors open. There was a woman carrying a large cardboard box, which he helped set it down at his desk. "Oh dear, you arrived early! Hang on, let me have this at the desk to give you some breathing room." Carl said, as the woman set the box down. "It's ok. It's not that heavy. I just do one box at a time." the woman said.
"Right. So you must be Vanessa Price, I presume?" Carl asked, which Vanessa nodded. Vanessa was a young woman with blonde hair with a ponytail, apple green eyes, and glossy lips. Aside from having a white complexion and some tiny freckles on her face, she was a normal woman. She came to the apartment wearing some casual clothing of a plain green t-shirt with a symbol of a white tree, blue jeans, and some pale white sneakers.
"You can call me Carl. I take care for this place. I got the key to your room. I already know you're staying with a roommate. She already arrived two weeks ago. Brought up some weird stuff, but I don't probe into other people's business. Supposed to be a peaceful place at Bushnell."
Vanessa got her apartment key, as she carried her box. "You sure you don't need help with that?"
"I'm good, but thanks for asking." Vanessa said, as she carried her box to the elevator. The inside of the building wasn't bad. Some dim lighting lit up the upper floor, as Vanessa got out of the elevator. The walls lacked anything and were completely bare in a white color. At least, the floors blocked noise from reaching the floors below. Vanessa checked the door numbers, where she checked her key. 404 was her room number. She found her door easily. Like all the other doors, they were made out of plywood. Turning the key after setting the box down, she opened the door.
The apartment room itself was made for two people or more. Vanessa already saw a living room with a large couch and a TV that might require some subscription service or two, but Vanessa didn't want to focus on watching television right now. She set the box down on the coffee table. She only wanted to get her bearings to her new home. Near the living room was the kitchen, though there was the lack of a dining room. Didn't matter, since Vanessa could eat at the living room. The fridge looked big enough to share groceries. There was a hallway that led to 4 doors. Two of them appeared to lead to bathrooms, while the others led into bedrooms. Vanessa heard someone behind one of the doors. It was the only door that was closed, so she figured it was her new roommate.
She gave the door a knock, as she heard some footsteps from behind the door. It wasn't until the door opened was when she let out a gasp. There was a woman in a bunny mask that had a bloody kitchen knife. The woman practically lunged forward, when the door opened, where Vanessa had to immediately step back as the blade was pointed directly at her. "Oh! Sorry! Sorry!" the woman immediately said, as she could tell that Vanessa was scared. She moved the mask to her head, revealing a pale face, as she reassured Vanessa. "Uhhh.. Are you my roommate?" Vanessa said, as she was looking at the bloody knife that the woman had. "Oh this? This is just fake blood! I was just practicing something. You could tell how fake it is, due to how less thick it is than real blood, right?" the woman explained.
"I'm Vanessa.. You must be.."
"Olivia. Olivia Ness. A lot of people at work like to call me Ness, but I'm good with either name." Olivia explained, as Vanessa tried to peek over the side of Olivia. Olivia noticed that Vanessa was curious, so she took a sidestep to allow Vanessa to look. Vanessa couldn't see all of Olivia's room, however in the middle of the bedroom floor, which was covered with a thin film of plastic, was a male mannequin covered with blood. There were empty packs of blood nearby, which confirmed Ness's story.
Olivia appeared to be the same age as Vanessa. She was slim and a bit taller than Vanessa herself. She had long brown hair, where strips of her hair in the back were dyed in rainbow colors. As Vanessa noted, her face was unnervingly pale, though the brown eyes from Olivia looked welcoming. Olivia was wearing a dark trench coat over a long-sleeved purple shirt, where she wore black jeans and some black and white running shoes.
"I'm sorry for scaring you early. I'm doing something as part of research for a screenplay that I'm doing."
"A horror movie?"
"It's what you would call a slasher. I wanted to see how good the stab wounds would look with the blood, but I forgot that you were supposed to arrive. Go ahead and get your stuff set up in your bedroom. Be mindful that the window leads out into the fire escape. I was thinking of taking a break for now, but I do like the results I have so far." Ness said, as she walked over to the other bedroom, opening the door for Vanessa to carry the box in. Vanessa didn't need the door open, but she appreciated Olivia's help.
Vanessa later got the rest of her stuff from her car into her apartment. Olivia had her bunny mask and trench coat off, when Vanessa finished up. Olivia kept her door closed, as she was in the living room, watching a documentary on medieval torture. Vanessa didn't appear to mind Olivia's "interests" though. Vanessa thought she was just eccentric, yet she remembered how some people back at her hometown saw her as weird.
Vanessa checked the fridge and the cabinets for food. She saw some ramen, though she knew to ask for Olivia's permission, before she can share some of her new roommate's food. Sitting down next to Olivia at the couch, she figured she would get to know her roommate better. "So what kind of slasher movie are you doing? The bunny mask looked creepy."
"Were you scared?" Olivia asked her with some interest. "A little, but it was mostly because I was caught off guard."
"I still need to work on that part. Say.. You didn't bump into a guy named Luis, right?"
"No?"
"Ok, just wondering."
"Who's Luis?"
"Just a friend from work. Liked to email me for stuff at where I work."
"Work where?"
Olivia took a moment to answer that part, where she knew that Vanessa was only curious. "I'm part of Fazbear Entertainment. I work on the video games that they do and I help with IT stuff." Olivia explained to Vanessa, where she was more interested at Olivia. "Fazbear? That's why I moved here to Bushnell. I'm going to be working at that new Pizza Plex that they set up."
Something immediately clicked in Olivia's mind from Vanessa's point of view. She immediately looked at Vanessa with heavy interest and delight. "The Pizza Plex?! That...That's great!"
"Something you like about that place?"
"I know I'm already in a job and all, but I never imagined that you would actually work there! I mean, I hadn't heard what it's meant to be like, but it's supposed to be the company's biggest project yet. Normally, I don't get too excited, but I always wanted to be in a pizzeria like what Fazbear would do. Do you happen to see the inside of it? Or anything about your job?" Vanessa could tell that Olivia was heavily obsessed with this revelation that Vanessa revealed, but she didn't know if she should be honest. Olivia was tapping her five fingers on the couch in a rhythm, which Vanessa noticed.
"Just a nightguard. I never seen the inside. I just got here."
"That's alright! I was just curious. After they did some moving and shaking to force me here with some other workers, I was wondering if we would be helping with the Pizza Plex, but you know how it is in an office building under new management!" Vanessa gave a small smile at Olivia, even though she thought that Olivia was being a bit worked up. "I'm sure things will look up to you at work." Vanessa said.
Olivia returned to her bedroom later that night, where she let Vanessa had some ramen for dinner and watch TV by herself. Vanessa wasn't interested in the torture and gory stuff that Olivia seemed interested in, but she found re-runs of a soap opera The Immortal and the Restless that she could watch. As Vanessa got herself comfy, she made sure to be ready for her first day of work. It was only the rehearsal day, however she couldn't let her new employers down.
Meanwhile, Olivia Ness was happily taking note of what Vanessa had mentioned to her. She works as a nightguard. I could see if she has anything that would let me in, without getting caught. Olivia thought to herself, to which he heard her. She didn't need to open her mouth. She can speak in her mind and he will know what's she doing. Olivia happened to have a VR headset on her desk next to her computer. She didn't need to wear it to see him. He already stood at the corner of the room, near the mannequin that was wrapped up in plastic. He was there in the living room, listening in with Olivia on what Vanessa said, but of course Olivia was the only one who can see him. He wasn't a ghost, but one could say he is.
"Don't worry. I know I was lucky, but I'm not here to disappoint you. She brought the same excuse I gave Luis."
Glitchtrap gave a head motion, similar to one's eyes rolling. "I don't want to kill her. I see potential in her. Maybe she can be like us. I wouldn't disappoint you. I already have a plan set up." Olivia said, as she walked over to her closet. Stuffed within behind some clothes was an unnerving costume. Stitched together with whatever Olivia could get her hands on, she managed to create something that would be helpful in her plan.
"I know how much you like rabbits.."
"It's missing something.. A name."
"What do you have in mind?"
"...How about Vanny? Vanny the Bunny?"
"That could work." Olivia said, letting out a giggle.
Author's Notes: Vanny's character was interesting, since while there isn't a canon appearance for her yet, I made sure to do some digging and take ideas from the plenty of fanart that was available to her. There were some designs that I liked that I wanted to use, but there were about 3 types of versions of her that I got conflicted. For right now, Vanny's appearance and design is based on mobox87's version of her, which they made a post containing a human version of the hare. Mobox87 is known for their AFFINITY AU on both Pininterest and Tumblr, so I will give them credit for Vanny. Vanny's appearance might change a bit (some short hair), but that could happen in the future.
Now that we've seen our two main characters, let us introduce our setting next chapter.
The Pizza Plex.
