Garmadon glared at Yakunan, his eyes narrowed in suspicion. Even if the latter was purified, he still held contempt towards the person who ruined his life. "What is the meaning of this?! We thought you died! You hurt my family and the only friends my son ever had!"

Yakunan winced from the pain of the wound his son had inflicted on him. "Y-Your son, Lloyd… He purified me as he did you, but my son, Xenudah won't let that slide. Your father trapped me on the Island of Darkness, and the only reason I had embraced the evil was because I wanted my son back."

"I don't get it! Why did my father hate you?"

"Your father never told you." Yakunan scoffed, "Typical of him." He took in a deep breath. "Years back, he and I were childhood friends… But they came."

Garmadon cocked an eyebrow as Yakunan told him about his family. "Who are you talking about?"

"Your father never told you that either. He was the descendant of the first oni and dragon to ever exist. The oni have destruction powers while dragons have creation powers."

"What does that have to do with all of this?!" Garmadon snapped. "Why does your son hate mine so much?!"

Yakunan sighed. "You see, after the first oni and dragon created your father, the union didn't last long. For one reason or another, oni hated dragons and vice versa. Both sides wanted your father for themselves to tip the tide of the war in their respective favor."

"And then what?" Garmadon asked, though he put his question in a different manner.

"I was best friends with your father for a long time, so I fled with him to create Ninjago. But the Oni followed, I got corrupted, and you know the rest." Yakunan sighed. "I have done horrible things to both you and your family, and I'm sorry…"

"So you corrupted me all because you wanted Xenudah back?!" Garmadon growled, his face twisting in pain and anger. "Why do the rest of the people have to pay for your mistakes?!"

"It was the Oni's fault!" Yakunan shouted. "They corrupted me because of their dark magic! I'm sorry, but if it wasn't for them, I wouldn't have had done anything like that."

Garmadon angrily looked away. "Nonsense! You did all of this just to get your son back! Then you got your wish, and it clearly didn't do anything to help you, so you went off looking for a proper resolution to this!"

"I went off to search for you so that we could end all of this. I didn't like what I became, and I wanted to change and redeem myself… But no one will listen to me."

The two looked at each other, and Garmadon suddenly felt sorry for the man in front of him. He had done horrible things, but clearly he wanted to stop. He didn't want to destroy the world. He didn't want to ruin everyone's lives.

Yakunan held his head up high. "I know I'm useless now, but your son and the rest of the ninja managed to purify me. If it's any consolation, Garmadon, we've both been through similar things."

Garmadon sighed. "I know, I know… But I don't want to carry this hatred forever… I've already lost so much and I can see you've been losing a lot too."

"I've learned my lesson, something I realized way back," Yakunan said. "I am not the monster you see me as. I have wronged others, but this resentment shouldn't last forever. At this point in time, it'll only cause more wounds to keep on going."

Garmadon nodded. "I know you're right… But even with all of this, you have to admit… It wasn't me who drove your son away."

"Yes… I am aware of that." Yakunan said before looking away. "But even if it wasn't for me, your son would've still driven him away. As it stands, for as long as he's corrupted and I'm not, he'll never stop hating your son."

Garmadon sighed. "I can see the pain in your eyes. You really and truly miss your son. I was lucky to have spent as much time with my own son as it was."

"I never hated you, Garmadon..." Yakunan said, lowering his head. "I hated myself for what I did to you and your family." He raised his head and looked Garmadon in the eye. "But I am glad we finally found closure to our issues."

Garmadon nodded. "I know we have, but we can't do it in the past… We have to go in the future. That's the only way for both of us to look to the future with hope."

"You're right," Yakunan said, his head still lowered. "But I do regret it all. I wasn't in control of myself when I did these horrible things. I could blame the oni for corrupting me, but I chose to be evil. For that, I apologize."

Garmadon nodded. "I too. Knowing that it was you, I started hating you more. I hated everything to do with you, and that hatred started to bleed into everything else. It wasn't just you that I blamed, but anyone even remotely involved with you."

Yakunan sighed. "I know you've been affected, but please leave this hatred behind. I think we have a better future ahead of us."

"I wasn't born to hate," Garmadon said with a sigh. "But I don't want to keep this up. Yakunan, I trust you… I do." He saw the desperate look in the former Overlord's eyes. It was like the man was willing to do anything to redeem himself. He didn't have to know everything, but investing his trust would be enough.

Yakunan sighed. "I'll stop blaming you for anything, I promise. But I'll ask you to do me a favor. You see, I've chosen to stay where I am. I want to stay on this island. And I know how to make things right on Ninjago." Yakunan said. "And with you by my side, I can make things right for my son and I."

"Alright." Garmadon nodded. "I'm willing to help, but I can't just forgive you right away. There's a lot of pain in my heart for both of us, however, you can be certain that I will make things right."

"I know this as well," Yakunan said. "But I'll do everything I can to bring my son home." He clenched his fists. "I'll do everything I can to bring Xenudah back."

"I'll help you in that." Garmadon nodded, and the two smiled at each other. "Now, I have a son to see and to make sure he's alright."

"I don't have a home anymore," Yakunan said, his face falling.

"You're welcome to stay with us," Lloyd replied, hovering a hand on Yakunan's wounds, healing them instantly.

"You know I can't bring myself to forgive you for what you've done to me," Garmadon said, although the tension in the area had finally dissipated.

"But forgiving me is the first step," Yakunan said. "You can't keep on hating, or you'll suffer. You have to forgive yourself as well as others. That's...something I've been struggling with for the last day since my purification."

"That's completely understandable…" Garmadon sighed, "Come stay with us for now. We'll pull through this together.

Lloyd nodded. "Yeah, don't worry, I'll help in making things right. You're not a bad man, and I can see that now more than ever."

"Are you sure, though?" Yakunan said. "I've done some horrible things to you and your family."

"We all make mistakes," Lloyd said. "We have to learn to accept them and move on."

Yakunan looked down at his feet. "I know I could've done a lot better... But I'm trying. I'm trying as hard as I can."

"I can tell," Garmadon replied with a smile. "Come, you should rest up."

"I'm not sure if it's okay..." Yakunan said. "I don't want to be too much of a burden."

"It's not a burden," Lloyd said as they began to head back to the Hero Suite. "No one should be alone at times like these."

"Besides," Garmadon added, "This will be your new dwelling. Who knows? You may just want to be here when you do find Xenudah."

Yakunan nodded. "That's kind of you to say," Yakunan said.

"It's the least I could say," Garmadon said. "I feel like I haven't done what I can to make it clear that I don't hate you anymore."

Yakunan paused. "I don't think I ever really said it...but I am very thankful for your help in saving me and bringing me into your life. It means the world to me."

"I'm just glad I could help. I will always listen, and I'll always be there for you."

"I know." Yakunan smiled. "I feel bad I'm imposing for staying here. And I'm sure it's too sudden..."

"It's not," Garmadon smiled. "And if you ever need anything, no matter what time of day or night, just ask."

"Thank you," Yakunan said, looking back at the destruction elemental.

As the group entered, a familiar surge of hope created an aura around the group.

They would get through this...together.
