After nearly three months, finally, chapter 13 has arrived.

Hope you enjoy.

Pov/Eren

They rode towards the gate of Karanes district, the wall stretching up fifty-meter and unbeknownst to most on the island, were filled with titans. After a couple of hours of riding with their horses at full speed, they had finally slowed down. The danger from the titan-shifters finally passing.

He had been expected an attack from Reiner and Annie, but surprisingly, they didn't attack. And there had been no sighting of either shifter with only several pure-titans being spotted throughout the return home.

But after thinking about it, he came to the conclusion that with Reiner so badly injured and Annie's strength drained, they had decided against attacking him, as it would most likely lead to them capturing another shifter or killing one of them.

He wouldn't be surprised if they were trying to contact Marley now, with the strength of the colossal gone, they would need the help of Zeke.

The gate was slowly pulled open, the chains creaking and groaning as they lifted the heavy stone entrance which had left an indent in the ground.

As they passed through the wall he felt eyes watching him as a large crowd gathered outside their houses. The crowds looked on at them surprised to see them back so soon and horrified by the casualties. They usually went out for several weeks at a time. But today, they weren't even out for a day before they returned with heavier casualties than usual.

More than half the Scouts had given their lives to capture Bertholdt, who was still in a carriage that was covered by a tent. He had been bound and gagged and next to him sat several scouts, who were continuously removing his regrowing limbs.

Whispers ran throughout the crowd, many of them insults towards them, others were simple questions. But then who wouldn't be confused at seeing the Scouts in this bad shape after only a day of going beyond the wall. Usually, they could last a couple of weeks before returning.

Too many good soldiers had been lost beyond the wall, and all because he had taken too long to attack Annie and Riner, bother of which had now escaped.

At least they had Bertholdt. But they can't hold him forever. It would only take one misstep and he would be freed to wreak havoc across the walls, and it would take some time to recapture him and along with the number of lives which would be lost would be monumental. They only had one option, they needed to pass on his power, the power of the colossal titan, to somebody within the Scouts. But the serums on the island were with Rodd Reiss, who would not give them up easily.

It seemed they were surrounded by enemies. With Annie and Reiner still on the island, who knows what they would plan next, and beyond the walls stood Marley and a dozen other nations who wished for the extinction of his people. And within the walls stood the corrupted government and Rodd Reiss.

All of which wanted him dead.

They rode deeper into the city, every Scout looking forward towards Wall Rose, which they rode for slowly.

The citizens of Karanes district quickly disbanded after watching them for several minutes. Though several of these people stood still with tears rolling down their faces from when they learned of the death of their sons, daughters, husbands, and wives, all of which had fallen to the titans.

As they continued to ride forward, his mind ran past dozens of different futures which now could happen. With the capturing Bertholdt so quickly, the Marleyan government had lost one of their most powerful weapons, and without him, Reiner and the other shifters would not be able to use him, like they did last time.

But they could only hold him for so long. Eventually, he would escape. As all it would take is one slip up.

They reached the gate of wall Rose, which began to open up slowly, the thick chains creaking and groaning as they did so.

Though their mission was slightly successful, they had lost dozens of Scouts in capturing Bertholdt. But unlike last time, they had something to show for it.

He gazed up ahead as they passed through the wall, and though they were miles away from it he could still make out the wall, which stood high and still over Stohess district.

Pov/Jean

The sun blared through the window, as he walked down the steps. Every step he took echoing throughout the stairwell.

He had been one of the few able to join the MPs, out of the top ten, only three joined the MPs, the rest joined the Scouts. Speaking of the Scouts, they go on their expedition soon. The 54th Scouting expedition, whereas usual many of the Scouts would die. Many of his friends would die, people, he spent years training with.

Finally reaching the bottom of the stairwell, he headed towards the officer's chambers, which was where they had been told to wait for further orders.

By the time he got to the chambers, a dozen people were already there, waiting outside the door.

He walked to the end of the line where Marco stood, the new MPs chatting amongst themselves while he did.

"Jean… You're late again," Marco stated as he leaned against the wall.

"Yeh, I know," he replied with a sigh.

Marco looked concerned about him, but as usual, he said nothing.

He looked to the stairwell, expecting Annie to appear, but she wasn't there.

Odd.

"Hitch," he said, looking along the line to where she stood.

"What? She asked, leaning back against the wall.

"Where's Annie?"

She shrugged her shoulders before replying.

"I don't know. She sometimes just disappears, usually just for the night but sometimes longer. I'm surprised you haven't noticed that yet."

"I've never noticed her go missing until now. She usually arrives here on time, or she's just a couple of minutes late," he stopped for a moment. "Did she return last night?"

Hitch shook her head in response.

"But don't worry. She'll be back soon enough."

He opened his mouth to speak again but the sound of someone coming to the door of the captains quarters caught his and everyone else's attention. Silencing all of them within a couple of seconds.

As their captain came out of the room everybody saluted him, including Hitch, who was often disrespectful towards their superiors.

Not that they care when she does it anyway.

"I told this already," the officer said, his voice slurred from the drink. "No salutes."

At this all their salutes dropped, only Marlow held his, surprised his superior would hold such little regard for them.

Today, you're going to be doing something a little different from your normal chores," their captain started, looking the sheet of paper in his hand up and down several times.

"Alright, listen up. The Survey Corps have been summoned to the royal capital, to show what their mission beyond the walls accomplished. You lot will be escorting them there. You'll be given temporary permission to use your manoeuvring gear within the city. Follow alongside their convoy and reinforce their security." Their captain explained.

That's all," he said beginning to turn round.

"Sir, may I ask a question?" Marlow asked straightening his back.

"Hm, what is it?" Their captain replied sounding bored.

"What will we be guarding the convoy against?"

Exactly what I was thinking.

"Well, I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the prisoner they caught beyond the wall."

As soon as he said 'beyond the wall' his eyes widened in surprise.

Beyond the wall? If he's talking about a prisoner then that must mean there are still humans within Maria.

"But that doesn't matter. Your job will be to escort the Scouts and their prisoner as their passing through the town. You'll be given temporary permission to use your ODM gear inside the city to follow alongside their convoy and reinforce the security."

"Alright, all of you get going. Except you," their captain said, pointing directly at him.

As the rest of the newly made Military Police Brigade members left the captain walked towards him, the orders in hand.

"You ", he pushed the paper booklet into his chest before continuing. "Will be in charge of this mission."

"But-" he started, only to be cut off by his superior.

"I have the stuff to do," he said, glancing back at the door as the others in the room let out a cry of disappointment.

"Anyway, you have the most experience of the new MPs, didn't you do something in Trost?"

He opened his mouth to speak but was cut off again.

"Doesn't matter. Just get this job done."

He gave a nod in reply, watching as the captain wandered back into his quarters.

A moment after the door shut he left the now empty corridor and began to walk towards the grounds where the rest of the new MPs stood.

As he arrived he saw his squad putting their ODM gear on, most were silent, though some, including Marlow and Hitch, were bickering.

Marlow glanced up at him for a moment, before he continued to strap the many parts of his gear to his body.

"So," he said, still looking down. "Why were you held back?"

"He wanted to give me command of the mission," he answered bluntly.

Marlow didn't reply, instead, it was Boris who had just come over.

"But why you? I mean, Annie was in Trost as well, and she made it higher in the rankings for your division."

"I don't know," he said, shrugging his shoulders before grabbing the last ODM gear on the stand.

Boris seemed intent on finding out why was chosen for the mission. So instead of leaving him alone, he continued to send a barrage of questions ranging from 'Did you kill a dozen titans?' to 'Did you lead the attack on Trost?'.

He sighed before standing up, his ODM gear only half on. He had finally got bored of the endless questions which were being thrown at him and decided to try to shut himself up, without making a scene.

He stood a head taller than Boris, which made his job a lot easier. The smaller MP looked up at him while he stared right back, discontent in his eyes.

Boris backed away without another word.

The yard was silent for a moment, but once again the whispers of his colleagues filled the Terrence. Though most were trying to stay as silent as possible.

He finished strapping his gear to his body while the rest of the group mumbled amongst each other almost silently.

As he stood Marlow walked towards him.

"Well then, captain," he started. "What are our orders?"

Well, sorry for the long wait. I'm not going to make excuses, the reason I took so long with this chapter was I just lost interest in the story. And not just this story, I've also just lost interest with attack on titan ever since it ended. And while I do want to continue this story, its going to be updated slower, than before.

But I will be starting a new fic soon, though it is not attack on titan, it is a game of thrones fic. A lot of the plans I had for other fics never came to pass due to me disliking the idea after a while.

Again sorry for the long wait, and sorry to those who wanted more attack on titan fics by me.
