Rio de Janeiro is beautiful and lush during this time of the year. It's the last week of July, which is technically winter in Brazil, but you'd never guess given how nice the weather is. Now, Tobias is marveled at how fast the past couple of months have flown by.
After Tris's graduation, her father was true to his word, staying in the city to be close to his two children. Tobias found himself a bit skeptical of Andrew at first, he wasn't certain what his motives were or if he really felt true remorse for his actions, but as time went on, Tobias saw for himself how eager Andrew was to make things right with his children. Nothing is perfect or even spectacular between them, much like Tobias's relationship with his own mother, but it's an improvement, which is more than either Tris or Caleb thought would happen.
The siblings even spent the weekend at their father's new home over the summer, right before Tris joined Tobias, Evelyn, Richard and his daughters at their lake house for a week. It was a relaxing few days of swimming and barbecuing and lazing about, and the family left a couple days early, to give Tris and Tobias some alone time there, which they were more than thankful for. Two weeks later was Evelyn and Richard's wedding. It was a small affair in Chicago, as neither of them wanted a big fuss, and Evelyn had already done the whole grand wedding thing before. Tobias was pleased to see his mother remarried, to a man who actually loves her. She deserved this second chance of happiness.
And five days ago, they finally embarked on their big excursion of the summer, which was Tris's father's graduation present to her; a trip to Brazil. In addition to bringing along Tobias, she also invited Uriah, Zeke, Marlene, Shauna, Christina, and Will.
Tobias isn't used to being in a friend group in general, so traveling with so many people is a new experience for him, but he's been enjoying himself so far. He's never been to South America before, and the sights are more exquisite than he could have imagined. His phone storage is overflowing with the amount of photographs he's been snapping, but he wants to commit all of this to memory, especially because this is his last great escapade with Tris before she leaves for college.
They still have a month left together before the inevitable happens, but Tobias already finds himself dreading it immensely. The past few weeks have been more wonderful than he could have ever dreamt, and he fears that he'll only be a summer fling to her once she's gone and can clear her head. Don't think about that right now, you're on vacation. Besides, you've got a job to do.
Tris is going to arrive back at their hotel room momentarily, and Tobias needs to complete the finishing touches on his surprise for her. The suite they booked is phenomenal, with a large window and balcony for them to look at the ocean view. Tobias doesn't go out there much, given his fear of heights, which has kept him from doing some other things on this trip like zip lining and hang gliding, but he's still been able to enjoy the gorgeous views from afar.
He adjusts a rose petal that fell astray, and lights the final candle just in time as he hears the lock on their door beep, indicating that Tris is back from the spa. He rushes over to the door behind her as she walks in, cupping his hands over her eyes so nothing is spoiled for her.
"Tobias! What are you doing?!" She demands in surprise.
"I have a surprise for you…"
"Okay, well, please don't sneak up on me like that," she huffs, though Tobias sees an excited smile begin to creep about her face.
"Sorry, sorry, though I think you'll forgive me when you see what I've set up," he tells her, guiding her into the bedroom and removing his hands.
Tris's eyes slowly take in the scene that Tobias attentively put together- the rose petals scattered across the bed, the two candlesticks he lit on each nightstand, the bottle of red wine open on the coffee table, the balcony doors open with a slight breeze sifting through the room.
Tobias watches her nervously, relief flooding through him when her face stretches out into an awed smile. "You did all this?" She murmurs.
"You know it. It's our last night and I-I want it to be special." Tobias's voice is thick with emotion, hoping his tone conveys what he really does want.
Being older than Tris, he knew it was important to take things slow during their relationship, especially given how much he had violated her trust at the beginning of everything. He'd done that, but now that it's been nearly six months, he wants to take the next step forward with her. If she still wasn't ready for that, it would be okay, he just wanted her to feel comfortable, but he also wants to be clear about his desires, in case she feels the same way.
"This is definitely special." Tris says, her voice barely a whisper as she approaches him, taking her face between her hands and pulling him down for a slow, languid kiss.
When she pulls back, she smiles. "Thank you for this."
"Of course. Shall we sit down for some wine?" Tobias gestures to the table with the open bottle.
"Mm, I think there are more pressing matters to attend to first. Especially since we have to meet our friends for dinner in a couple of hours."
"What pressing matters?"
In response, Tris gently backs him up to the bed, pushing him into a sitting position before climbing atop him, straddling his waist. She crashes her lips to his forcefully.
Well, I can't argue with this.
As they sit there kissing, Tobias wraps an arm around Tris's waist, gently easing both of them down onto the bed as he stretches out into a lying down position, neither of them breaking the kiss.
His hands continue roaming her body, snaking up the bottom of her shirt. Tobias grins against Tris's mouth when he feels her shiver at the contact.
He uses the disconnect between their lips as an excuse to kiss her neck, nipping, and licking, and loving the soft mewling sounds emitting from her mouth. "Oh, Tobias," she gasps, throwing her head back.
"What do you want, Tris?" He murmurs against her neck, trying not to get too hopeful about her answer.
But without hesitation she sighs, "You. Always you."
Tobias halts for a moment. "Are you sure?" He needed to know she one hundred percent wanted this.
She nods, her head bobbing up and down as she swallows thickly. "I'm sure, Tobias. I've been quite sure for some time."
He stares back up at her, her honey blonde hair falling down around his face like a curtain, her baby blue eyes dark and full of lust, her cheeks a gorgeous, rosy hue. "You're so fucking beautiful," he murmurs, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. "I can't wait to make love to you. Over, and over again."
She closes her eyes, breathing in deeply as her chest heaves up and down. "Oh, please, Tobias." She rolls her hips against his slowly, and blood immediately flushes to Tobias's pants at the contact.
Tobias stored some condoms in the bedside table just in case this moment arose, and now he reaches over to grab one, Tris's eyes tracking his every movement.
"I'm going to make this unforgettable for you, Tris," he promises, sighing as her head dips down to pepper soft kisses across his neck.
She pulls back, her lips quirking up slightly. "I don't doubt it."
Tobias grins, wrapping both arms around her tightly as he rolls them over on the bed.
"Tris? Something's different about you." Christina comments, her eyes scrutinizing the blonde's appearance across the dinner table.
"What do you mean?" Tris asks nonchalantly, though Tobias senses a slight quiver to her voice as his fingers make circles around her inner thigh under the table.
Their first time had been… Tobias doesn't have any words to really describe it. "Incredible," or "mind-blowing" wouldn't even suffice in this situation. And then they did it again. And again. And again. Until they realized they were running late to their final dinner with their friends. They'd hurriedly jumped into their clothes and rushed out the door, Tobias nearly forgetting his key card.
And at this moment he wants nothing more than to take her back up to their room, drink that whole bottle of wine together, and lock themselves up for the rest of the night, finishing right where they left off. But for now, teasing her under the table will have to suffice.
"I'm not sure…" Christina states. "Just different."
"She's right," Marlene pipes up. "You do have a new sort of glow about you."
Tris chuckles. "You're probably talking about my very attractive sunburn."
"No. No, it's not that." Christina continues discerning her, and Tobias watches the exact moment that realization arrives in her mind. "Oh my gosh!" She laughs, looking between Tobias and Tris now. "You two!"
Tobias halts the sinuous movement of his fingers as he internally sighs. Of course their last dinner together on this trip would entail eagle eyed Christina breaking the news to everyone that he and Tris had finally had sex.
"Christina? Are you on drugs?" Uriah asks through a mouthful of rice. "What the fuck are you talking about?"
Christina's lips curve into a slow smile, as she continues to assess the pair for a few more moments. "Oh, nevermind, Uri. I'm not on drugs but I might be a little drunk. That Boscato Vinicola was just too good." She shrugs impishly.
"Yeah, no fucking shit," he chortles, shaking his head to himself.
Tobias risks a glance at Tris, noticing that she looks very relieved that Christina spared them. He finds himself feeling similarly.
"Okay, well," Shauna raises her own wine glass. "A toast to this amazing trip, and to the amazing Tris Prior for bringing us along."
Everyone raises their glasses in return, and Tobias loves the sight of the flush that runs up Tris's neck. It makes him wonder just how low it goes…
He continues his dirty thoughts as everyone around the table shares what their favorite part of the trip has been. It turns into Zeke and Will returning to giving Uriah flack for allegedly cheating at golf, but Tobias isn't listening, nor caring as he continues to stare at his beautiful girlfriend.
Her honey tresses fly from her face in the evening breeze, her eyes dart between all of their friends as she intakes the words they're exchanging, and he loves her low throaty laugh that bubbles up whenever someone says something funny.
Sitting here, beside Tris, surrounded by all of their friends, Tobias decides that this is something he may very well want for the rest of his life. And admitting that doesn't scare him anymore.
To Brazil. To Tris. And, to the future.
I hope everyone had a good new year's. I know I've been gone for a few weeks but I had been working on this chapter in (very) small bits and pieces when I could, and when I felt up to it. I am still very much committed to this story, as I hope you all are.
Sadly, though, our time here together is drawing to a close. Next chapter of Million Dollar Bills is the last, but I still have other stories in the divergent universe planned, so keep your eyes peeled.
Thank you for all the continued support and reviews. I know this was a short chapter but I would love to know what you guys thought.
Till next time,
-Kiki
