"What happen at the Blue Sky jewel heist a month ago? To be exact, what happen between you and Conan on the roof?"
Kaito is in lost words, he didn't expect that he will question what happen between them instead of the reason why he steals
"You're a detective right? Why don't you figure it out?"
"I already did it for weeks but there are so many lack of information and no evidence to point out. The only thing I can do is faces one of you. But Conan didn't even want to tell me anything about that day and he just…"
Shinichi seems hesitated to continue which surprised the phantom thief. Shinichi then shake his head and faces him again
"Never mind so I have no choice to ask Kaito Kid instead. But I need a lot of time to make you explain everything so I can't do that in your heists so I have to ask directly to the person behind Kaito Kid for answers"
Kaito look at Shinichi who's very serious. He then smiles at the love toward his little brother and the funniest thing is that, Shinichi is easier getting his identity instead of evidences of what happen to the rivals which is laughable yet scary so Kaito quickly conclude that is Kudou Shinichi's biggest weakness. Which is he can't focus on a case that he always does like walk in the park if his little brother is involved. Kaito then gives in and sit on the window and faces outside
"That day… I happen to be in a very bad mood, from school and of course heists. It's just driving me crazy and Hakuba tailed me everyday… That heist get into my nerves because my magic trick that I have been working for months didn't work and looks like someone sabotage it"
Shinichi start to understand everything afterward, now he knows what Sonoko means about Kid sudden face change when facing the polices and his little brother
"I got the jewel and rush to the roof but instead it's not the jewel I'm looking for. I got quite angry so I quickly presume that the one who sabotage my magic trick is the only person there who can easily read my tricks which is… your little brother"
Flashback
The door opens shows Conan who panting tiredly and see the phantom thief. The phantom thief become irritated and then tossed the blue jewel to Conan. The night sky was already filled with clouds which really complement on how Kid feel right now
"Just what is your reason huh?!" shout Kid in anger
"What?" asked Conan surprised
"Do you know how much work I have to do to make every heist! Do you know how much time and sweat I use to get this done but in the end I got nothing!"
Conan just stood there in surprised look by sudden thief outburst
"I know you just want fame for being Kid Killer and being famous without using your parents and brother's name but is it have to be this way?! You're just a kid who want to get known and got respected by many people right?!"
Conan face change immediately and became pale but he quickly brushed it and shows anger look to Kid
"What nonsense are you saying! What do you even know about me?!" shout Conan angrily
"Cih, just go away and don't interrupt me"
With that, the phantom thief turn around and let out a smoke bomb. He uses that chance to fly away from the rooftop. In the air, he just realizes what he has done… He let out his irritation to the one who see as his rival and a grade schooler that he adore for his skills
"What have I done…"
Conan then become angry and hit the wall hard beside him. Suddenly the cloud pour out water, Kid stop flying and then got rain shower on one of the roof buildings not far from the museum while Conan already inside near the door just look at the rain showing a very angry look. After he holds his emotions properly, he goes back to meet the police to give the jewel back
Back to present
"So you let out an angry outburst to my little brother" said Shinichi glaring in anger
"I'm sorry! I want to apologize to him but to my surprised that he didn't show up to any of my heist… I purposely make additional heists but he still didn't come… I even make advance notice to your house but he still didn't react"
"Of course he will not come after what you said you stupid thief!"
Shinichi glare at the thief who just look outside in sad and regret look. Shinichi then realize that not only Conan who seems down the earth. The thief seems to feel bad to let out an angry outburst to an innocent child. He also seems to know that due to circumstances, he can't just barge into his house to meet Conan after all
"Now let me say this, you still get a good point on this" said Shinichi as he sighs
"What do you mean?" asked Kaito surprised
"Thanks to your outburst, it's clear now that sooner or later Edogawa Conan will take off his title as Kid Killer by other words, retiring"
Kaito eyes shot up in shock hearing the detective statement which to be not a joke at all since he is the one who lives with the Kid Killer for a long time
"Which means you lost one of your heist threat… It will make in big advantage of searching the jewel you need right?" said Shinichi serious
"That's…"
Shinichi start to analyze the phantom thief's reaction and face. He sighs and then rest his back on the wall behind him and folded his arms
"It is very advantageous for you to lost one of the biggest threat of your heists but do you feel the slightest difference when you face the police without Kid Killer? Do you feel something lack of your heist when Kid Killer is not there?"
Shinichi's words directly hit the phantom thief. The thief just lose his poker face hearing the high school detective words
"Yes or no great magician?"
"Yes… My heist become interesting rather than just with Nakamori-keibu or Hakuba… He's smarter and wiser than Hakuba which I really respect… Every time he's there, I will always present my most refine tricks so that he has a hard time to see it" said Kaito as he close his eyes
Kaito sit on the table and then squeeze his hands together while looking down. Shinichi just stand by the wall looking at the phantom thief showing his real affection toward his little brother. Shinichi can see the sincere on Kaito's voice, he keeps hearing him
"Besides being a thief, I'm also a magician. Magician always needed audiences but most of the audiences will only see for the tricks and how amazing it is, some of them want to know behind the trick but after knowing it, they will just try to ruin the atmosphere by telling the trick to everyone or in my case, used it to captured me but Tantei-kun… He's amazing"
Kaito stand up and then take out two doves from his uniform which Shinichi didn't bother to be impressed since he has zero tolerance of magician and tricks. Kaito look at one of the dove on his finger while the other dove is sitting by Kaito's shoulder
"Tantei-kun… is the rarest audience for all magician in the world. Rather than prioritizing on catching me like Nakamori-keibu, Hakuba and you did… He's more focusing on figuring out the trick behind my heist. He really made the whole atmosphere becomes more intense and the best of all, he's a detective. Detective's job is to tell everything of what they figure out which he gives me a great critic of what I did wrong on my trick so I can upgrade it to make him can't see it anymore for my next trick and Tantei-kun living up the name as Kid Killer because his satisfactory face after solving my tricks is killing me to every bit of my sleeves"
As Kaito said that, he smirks and make the doves disappear from him. Shinichi smiles by Kaito's words and proud of his little brother for being different of him and their father. Both of him and their father will be prioritizing more on catching Kaito Kid rather than his tricks but Conan, he's prioritizing on figuring out the tricks of what the phantom thief did and then he will try to catch him. From magician view, it is indeed the audience that he needed the most. With that, Shinichi then let out a small smile
"Thank you for the kind words about my little brother. As his big brother, I'm very honored that you respect him so much… Now is the serious part… Do you want him to comeback chasing you so badly even though he's one of your threat? Do you want Kid Killer back?"
Kaito look at Shinichi's eyes which shows a determined look to him which Kaito quickly give a smile
"Yes, I want Kid Killer back" said Kaito serious
"Thank you for the answer… Then tonight 11.30 PM… Use your mask to Haido City Hotel. Use that chance to properly explain yourself, If you really want him back"
With that Shinichi want to go out from the classroom but Kaito stop him
"Why you do this? I thought you hated me for making your brother in so much trouble"
"Yes I don't like it when you get my brother hurt but… The little brother that I know is a Kid Killer. Catching you is already passed down from my father and it's in his blood from the first time he moved to Japan. The only rival that Kaito Kid 8 years ago have is my father, Kudou Yusaku. So it figures if the second Kaito Kid's rival is the son of Kudou Yusaku. But since I never have interest on thieves in my jurisdiction and I didn't show interest when you strike instead Conan who did it so it can be sure that he's the one who get inherit our father's work. I will not lose that side of him so easily due to dumb angry outburst from his rival"
"Meitantei…"
"So you better fix this problem, I only help this far… Don't even try to ruin it. I'm not doing this for you… I'm doing it for my little brother, that's all"
Shinichi close the door of the classroom leaving Kaito alone. Kaito quickly show a serious face as he let out a certain one eye monocle on his pocket
"I will gladly take that chance Meitantei, I will get my rival back" said Kaito serious as he wears his one eye monocle
Time Skip~
At Haido City Hotel
"Why are you taking me with you?" asked Conan on his back while taking off his helmet
"Well why not? I'm planning to make both of us ditched school tomorrow"
"Oi oi?! Are you for real?!"
"Hehehe, I'm joking. Don't worry, it will not take long, let's go"
"You should just let me stay at Ran-neechan's house"
Conan actually didn't like going here but Shinichi insists he comes with him. Shinichi look at his watch and it seems it almost time so he and Conan on their way to the rooftop
Few moments later
Both of them arrive to the rooftop of Haido City Hotel. Shinichi pretend to look at the crime scene at the back of the door while Conan stay at the end.
"Conan, you stay there… I will take a look at the back, be careful okay" said Shinichi
"Okay"
After that Shinichi stay hidden behind the pillar and on cue the white magician arrives to which surprised the grade schooler
"Hello Tantei-kun…"
"What… why are you-"
Before Conan ran away and does anything, Kid jump right in front of him and hold his hand to prevent him for going anywhere
"Oi! Let go of me! Just what are you planning to-" said Conan but then interrupted
"I'm sorry!"
That simple words surprised the grade schooler. Shinichi sees everything behind the pillar and look amused
"Wow that indeed straight for a phantom thief" thought Shinichi looking at them
Conan was surprised by Kid suddenly apologize. He then shoved his hands away from Kid and put his hands on his pockets
"What are you saying?" asked Conan didn't like it
"I'm sorry! About what happen at Blue Sky jewel heist… That time I was-"
"I know"
Kid look surprised by Conan's words. Conan looks to the view without looking at the phantom thief
"I know, you were in an awfully bad mood that day and just outburst it to me, the last person you see of the day. To be honest, you lose your poker face from the first time you arrive at the museum so that's why I stay behind the officers"
"Eh?"
Conan continued to stare at the buildings without noticing on how surprised the phantom thief is
"You also thought that I'm the one who sabotage your trick but truth is not me but Hakuba did it" said Conan folded his hands
"What?"
"You don't know? Hakuba was there for a while until he got called by his father… It seems he found out your trick. I also found out the trick after Hakuba cut the wires and tell me that I will have an easy time to catch you"
Kaito Kid was in deep shock. He didn't even think of it through. Conan will always let him do his tricks and rarely sabotage it before comfort him unlike Hakuba who will always sabotage before comforting or do it in the middle of the trick. That's what he likes from Conan, he will at least let him do his trick rather sabotage it from the beginning
"If you know then why you stop going to my heists? You even mad at me when I see you at that professor's house"
"Because you're right"
"What…"
"I used Kid Killer title to be known in Japan and got respected by some police officers by doing it. Your outburst make me realize it and then got me thinking, maybe I shouldn't do it. Our meeting shouldn't have happened after all and it should be my brother who do Kid Killer job instead of me since he's the worthy successor of Kudou Yusaku"
Kaito Kid was surprised by Conan's words as he just looks disbelief by the grade schooler words. The big brother who also hears it can't accept it that easily
"In my age, I shouldn't even do this kind of things… Japan should be my brother's jurisdiction. It got me thinking, maybe moving to Japan was a bad idea after all-"
Shinichi who have been hearing the whole time gets out from his hiding and about to shout but Kid already do it for him
"NO IT IS NOT!" shout Kaito Kid in anger
Conan look at the phantom thief who surprised by his sudden shouting. Phantom thief hold both Conan's shoulders and shows an anger plastered on his face
"You still don't understand?! I came here trying to apologize because I want you to be the one who's chasing me and not him!" shout Kid while pointing the high school detective
Conan was surprised by the thief words. Conan saw his brother's face who seems very unhappy by his remark before. Conan looked down and didn't face either the thief or the detective
"Why me… my brother is a better detective than I am"
"Why?! Do you know the word of thrilling? Fighting you is more thrilling than with this Meitantei or Hakuba! Both of them didn't respect my tricks like you did… I should have realizes from the start that you're not the one who sabotage my tricks… Hakuba always do that and Meitantei once did it at the clock tower" said Kid glaring at Shinichi
"Hahaha…" little laugh Shinichi behind them
Conan just look away although the thief holding his shoulder. It seems Conan still not sure to comeback chasing him after all of that
"You sometimes did sabotage my tricks but you are different Tantei-kun…"
"Eh?" asked Conan surprised
"Unlike Hakuba or your big brother, you properly see my tricks and give me proper critics on each trick. You have this kind of personality of having fun solving tricks I did and respecting my tricks. You live up your name as Kid Killer way better than anyone… so that's why… I had more fun fighting you!"
Conan eyes shot up as he heard the thief's confession. He never knew that Kid really need his presence that much. Conan who still not sure about coming back grab Shinichi's attention on his behavior and with that Shinichi knows that it is indeed time to stop
"Kid… I think you have done enough for today" said Shinichi with a sad smile
"Meitantei…"
"At least you give your thoughts really well"
Kid then let Conan go and go toward the end of the rooftop, he looks at the view while letting his cape blown by the wind
"Tantei-kun… I'm going to tell you the truth" said Kid serious without looking at Conan
Conan look at the white magician while folded his hands
"When we first meet here one year ago, I'm sure that you are my true rival… The extreme rival I had longed for my heists to be more thrilling and fun"
With that Kid goes away with his hang glider and fly off from the hotel building, Kid use his phone to call someone
"Jii-chan, it's me… I already know what my next heist target will be" said Kid serious
Few days later
"Kaito Kid has sent another advance notice! For the first time, he openly challenged Kid Killer, Edogawa Conan-kun!" said the newscaster on TV
The scene change to a reporter with Inspector Nakamori right beside her
"Right now, I'm with Inspector Nakamori. Nakamori-keibu, can you explain detail about the advance notice?!" asked the reporter
"Just as he said at the notice that, he said that 'Tomorrow night, I will gladly take the Sapphire Crown from the prince of truth. We have been ourselves for a long time so now it's time for us to fight face to face properly without anyone. The world known you as my killer and I want to see you in action!'… We can conclude that the killer that he means is the famous Kid Killer, Edogawa Conan" said Inspector Nakamori serious
"So is Edogawa Conan-kun will be joining after his absence in few heists lately?"
"We already contact his caregiver but he said that there's a chance that they will come or not come. Even though Conan-kun can't make it, I will still be the one who put him behind bars!"
That was on the TV
Shinichi, Ran and Sonoko are on their way home from school. Haibara text him that Conan is with Professor Agasa right now. Shinichi told Ran and Sonoko what happen between the Kid Killer and Kaito Kid himself at the Haido City Hotel rooftop. Of course, he's omitting the fact that now he knows Kid's true identity
"Woah… I didn't expect Kid-sama will be like that" said Sonoko surprised
"But are they going to be fine? Conan-kun and Kaito Kid?" asked Ran worried
"I'm being honest… I don't know, after that Conan didn't want to talk about it"
Time Skip~
The next day
At Kudou's house
Conan is at the library alone looking at some files, Shinichi became worried because there's only three hours before the heist time yet he's still not moving. Shinichi goes inside and surprise the boy and he put the files back
"You're not going?" asked Shinichi
"I… don't know" said Conan looking away
Shinichi sit on the chair and sign Conan to sit on his lap. Conan take it and immediately sit on his lap. Shinichi hold Conan's shoulder and then look at their numerous amount of books
"Conan… are you really going to stop being a Kid Killer?" asked Shinichi
"…"
Conan didn't answer him and just stay quiet but Shinichi know that his little brother is shivering
"Do you really can let go of the excitement of chasing him?"
The grade schooler just sigh and then look up to his brother's face. Shinichi notice that Conan's eyes seems show a doubtful and concern face
"Niichan… am I really using Kaito Kid as my get away of recognition?" asked Conan in low voice
Shinichi quickly shake his head and then turn Conan's body to properly face him
"No, you are recognized not only mere of his fame as a thief but the fact that you outsmart him"
"But… it was still not enough"
Shinichi was surprised by the remark. He looks at his little brother who seems down after telling him that
"What do you mean?"
"I… figured his trick after he has done it, not purposely waiting for him to finish. Hakuba and you sabotage their trick because you guys notice it early before he got a chance to do it…" said Conan while looking away
"I don't know about Hakuba but I'm like you, I figure his trick after he has done it"
"Eh? but at clock tower heist?"
"He already did his trick remember. You saw it right, when he make the clock hands disappear… That's his trick, I found out when I ask the helicopter I was in to fly closer"
Conan look at his brother's eyes which show a sincere truth to him. He became more confuse by this fact until Shinichi stand up
"Conan… You are not yourself ever since you stop chasing him. I remember perfectly how you develop your Edogawa Conan persona the day you are confirmed to be Kid's rival and that's the little brother I have been living for months now"
"Niichan…"
"Try coming today to see that it's worth or not? If not, you can announce that you stop being a Kid Killer to the reporters… How about that?" said Shinichi shoving his hand toward Conan's face
Conan look at his brother who is giving him some energy to make up his mind. With that, Conan nod and then take his hand
Time Skip~
The reporters are waiting in front of the museum for further notice from the police, suddenly one reporter caught a particular motorcycle with two people. As the two people open their helmet, it was the two brothers. The reporter didn't wait any longer and start to interview them especially the Kid Killer
"Edogawa Conan-kun! Are you taking the challenge?!" "Where have you been all this time?!" "The rumor of you stop being a Kid Killer is not true right?!"
That basically all the questions that was being asked to Conan but Shinichi quickly held him and go toward the entrance and with help some police officers, they manage to get a good space. Conan face them and smile
"For now, I will be accepting the challenge from that magician. For that rumor that was going on around media… Well my answer will be judged by today's heist. That's all I can say" said Conan smiling to the reporter and then go toward the museum
The reporter start making their news by Conan's statement which got into the whole news media that was captured in the whole country and worldwide and of course the ear of the thief himself
"You got to be kidding… you're still planning to stop fighting me, Tantei-kun…" said Kid angrily through his phone
Jirokichi and Inspector Nakamori goes to the boy and ask how have he been for a month while Shinichi goes toward Sonoko and Ran who have seen them make that statement to the reporter
"Is it true Shinichi? Conan going to stop being a Kid Killer?" asked Ran worried
"Whenever happen today… I already tried my best so it's up to him now" said Shinichi while looking at his little brother
Sonoko and Ran look at the boy who tried to stop the bombarding questions from Jirokichi and Inspector Nakamori. Suddenly someone tapped Shinichi which to be Hakuba
"Hakuba Saguru?!" shout Shinichi surprised
"It's been a while Kudou Shinichi… I rarely see you at Kid heist" said Hakuba
"Woah good looking!" thought Sonoko in awe seeing Hakuba
"Ahh I'm here to be Conan's guardian. I'm not going to help the police like you and he did" said Shinichi
"I see… but your relative really make a big news. Now all news is about him and Kaito Kid suppose to be last fight today"
Hakuba show his phone to be news about his statement just now which already reach to the whole world news.
"Woah this will get ugly... The media really had to misunderstand the statement huh. Ah Ran, Sonoko… this is Hakuba Saguru, he's also a high school detective from London. Hakuba, this is my childhood friends, Mouri Ran and Suzuki Sonoko"
"Nice to meet you" said Ran and Sonoko politely
"Nice to meet you, my name is Hakuba Saguru"
After get away, Conan look surprised to see Hakuba was near his big brother, Ran and Sonoko
"Hakuba, what are you doing here?" asked Conan surprised
"Well you have been away for a month so Inspector Nakamori ask for my cooperation because they thought you will not come today"
"Hahaha I see…"
Suddenly Shinichi was called by Inspector Nakamori, he then quietly goes to him
"What's wrong keibu?" asked Shinichi
"Is it true Conan-kun will stop chasing Kaito Kid?" asked Inspector Nakamori
"Whenever happen today I guess… why do you ask keibu?"
"Well that thief also seems to be not on his usual pace for a month now ever since the boy didn't come"
Shinichi look down since he knows what actually happen between the thief and rival. Suddenly the inspector said that it's almost time so Shinichi quickly goes to in front of the entrance so he can give a proper space
As on cue, the light goes off and there it is the white magician right at the window. Hakuba, Inspector Nakamori try to attack him but Kaito Kid then attack them with a net. Which leaves only Conan and some police officers who still free to capture him. The thief quickly take the Crown but much of his surprised that the Crown was thrown away from the pillar and Conan quickly catch it
"Conan…" thought Shinichi
"Tantei-kun? Why am I so pleased to see-"
"Shut your introduction. You plan this from the start right" said Conan while looking at the Crown on his hand
"Eh?!" shout all of them in the room except Kid and Conan himself
"What do you mean Tantei-kun, I'm just-"
"First you prepare the net to trap your initial target, Hakuba Saguru-san. You already sabotage the Crown's pillar which make the Crown fly toward where you predict me to stand. The notice you said that you will take the Crown from the prince of truth… You were referring to Hakuba right" said Conan while glaring at the Crown
"You did see it and deduct my notice, at least I want to shut that detective down first"
"You do realize that there's another detective over there"
Shinichi just raise his hand and shake his head as if he has nothing to do with this
"So, what's the big idea of this?" said Conan unhappy
"Hehehe but first let's go to more quiet place" said Kid smirking as he dash toward Conan and capture him
"Oi!"
"Conan!" shout Shinichi as he goes in
"Don't worry Meitantei, I will not harm him"
Kaito Kid let out some smoke bombs and after that he disappear with Conan. Shinichi look around and dashed toward one spot that they will always face each other, the roof
Ran, Sonoko and some reporters follow him and there they see it. Conan and Kaito Kid facing each other at the roof but Kaito Kid already make some fences between the roof so that none of them can interfere them
"Now that the audiences have arrived… You should try to get this if you can Tantei-kun" said Kid while holding the Crown
Conan was glaring at the thief, Shinichi became worried about this situation. The reporter and camera just shoot them without knowing anything
"Now Tantei-kun… what should you do now?"
"Nothing"
"Eh" said all of them who see the scene except Shinichi who look serious
Conan put his hands on his pocket as he says it and look at the phantom thief uninterested
"What? Oi oi Tantei…"
"I told you that I will stop chasing you just like you ask me to… Why bother so much to have me return by calling me on your notice" said Conan serious asking again to at least tell the media what happen between the two rivals
"I did say that… but in the end it's hard after all… I realize that my heist become paler than when you are not there… No offense to Inspector Nakamori and London detective but the thrill is different when I'm fighting with you Tantei-kun… That's why, forgive me for my words that day"
"You sure you want me to chase you? In here, you still have Hakuba and of course that mystery geek high school detective relative of mine"
"Oi oi…" said Shinichi who irritated by Conan's remark
Kid just look at the grade schooler whose now very serious by his words and just smirk
"I'm sure… because you're the only one who can scare me and that karate boyfriend of Suzuki's princess" said Kid while looking at Sonoko who seems surprised
"You sure you want Kid Killer back?" asked Conan behind the light of his glasses
"Yes I'm sure, that name is made by Suzuki Jirokichi-san after all. Why not live up to his expectations"
"Then… NOW!"
"Sure!" shout Shinichi throw something right to Conan
Conan grab it and then activate his shoes and soccer belt. He kicked right to Kid but he managed to get away. When Kid goes from the edge of the roof, he realizes that the Crown is not in his hand anymore but in Conan's head
"How did you-"
"That Crown has a magnet specialize inside it for safety, Shinichi-niichan ask the police to give him the magnet that was supposed to be in the Crown's pillar so I used my suspender to grab it. It's an easy game after all if you have a partner" said Conan smirking
"Now that's my rival that I want to see. You beat me off with tricks, well then since it's not the jewel that I was looking for. Take this as your win, Kid Killer"
"Not until I put you behind bars… Kaito Kid"
Kaito Kid smirk and then let out a smoke bomb. As the smoke release, they saw Kaito Kid already run away with his hang glider, Conan got unhappy seeing him escape. Shinichi jump from the fences and goes beside his little brother
"You got him alright" said Shinichi smiling to Conan
"Well most of it is still your idea to use the magnet as an advantage" said Conan while taking the Crown from his head
"Now, are you going to stop being a Kid Killer after all of that?"
Shinichi bend down to his size and hold his shoulders. Conan look at him, Ran, Sonoko and some reporters who wait for his answer and he just smirk
"Well if you let me, then Edogawa Conan will continue being Kid Killer for a while" said Conan smiling
"That's the smile I have been waiting for" thought Shinichi smiling back at him
"Hehehe sorry for the wait" thought Conan back
The reporters shout happily hearing Conan's statement and quickly make the news in front of camera. Shinichi and Conan just laugh and Ran was very glad that see Conan seems happier than before. They didn't know that someone that already disguised as a police officer look at the scene and grin
"Finally you're back Tantei-kun"
The police officer run away from the roof as he confirmed that everything is back to normal.
