Chapter 7: Lost in the Desert
Brita's face is beat red and moans in pleasure as Set thrusts into her from behind.
"Harder my lord!"
Set continues to pound into her until he finally reaches his limit and explodes inside of her. Brita screams in ecstasy and pants as she starts to lose consciousness.
"That was amazing my lord."
Set rubs her head as she dozes off. It's been about three months since the battle in the cemetery and Set has been strangely restless lately. No matter what he does or how many times he fucks Brita into goo, he just can't seem to feel satisfied.
"Why do I feel so empty?"
He puts on his loincloth and walks out of his room, leaving Brita to rest. He walks through the tomb and slowly takes a tour through the Tomb. As he keeps walking, he begins growling as his agitation begins to grow. He eventually arrives outside the cantina, where he hears laughter and cheering.
He looks inside to see Anubis and Beta sitting with some of the other NPC's. He turns and walks off, not wanting to disturb them. Nobody notices his presence except for Anubis. Set heads for the entrance of the Tomb and steps out to gaze at the night sky.
"Father."
Set looks over his shoulder, then back at the sky.
Anubis walks up and stands next to his father, "Something is troubling you."
Set growls, "I feel so empty."
"It's as if there is a hole inside of me that I just can't seem to fill."
Anubis frowns, "Hmm, perhaps it is a sense of longing that vexes you."
Set looks down at him, "Longing?"
Anubis hums, "We've spent so long without any of our people around us."
"Not only that, but how long has it been since we've walked through an actual desert?"
Set growls, "I think you may be right."
"Perhaps it is loneliness that is killing me."
His body glows before his armor appears onto his body, "Let's go, we're going for a walk."
The following morning, the whole Tomb erupts into chaos.
Everyone gathers into the throne room.
Ainz's eyes flash, "What do you mean he's gone?"
Albedo bows her head, "Forgive me, my lord."
"I went to retrieve Lord Set just as you asked, but he wasn't in his room." "I immediately searched the Tomb, floor by floor." "But I have been unable to locate him."
Azazel frowns, "It isn't like him to just up and disappear like this."
He turns to Brita, "What about you?"
"How did you not know he left?"
Brita looks at the ground and fidgets, "I was…incapacitated."
Narberal raises an eyebrow, "Incapacitated?"
Brita turns red, but doesn't say anything.
Beta smirks, "Oh…Papa wore you out, huh?"
Brita's face turns completely red.
Ainz facepalms, "At any rate, we need to figure out where he has gone."
He turns to the Guardians, "Has anyone tried to message him?"
Demiurge bows his head, "Apologies, my lord."
"I took the initiative to Message him, but he appears to be either out of range or is ignoring me."
Azazel groans, "Great."
Shalltear smiles, "At least he is not alone."
They all turn to her.
Yuri raises an eyebrow, "What do you mean?"
Shalltear hums, "Whilst searching for Lord Set, I noticed that Anubis was gone as well."
Cocytus exhales, "He must have followed after Lord Set to keep an eye on him."
"Such a loyal son he is."
Sebas clears his throat, "My Lords, perhaps you could use the Scrying spell to discern Lord Set's current location?"
Both players mentally facepalm, 'Oh god, why didn't I think of that?'
Ainz stands up, "Yes, of course."
"Thank you, Sebas."
Ainz waves his hand and a cloud appears in the center of the Throne Room. The cloud waves and shifts until the image of a desert appears.
Brain's eyes widen, "The Romagon Desert."
Azazel turns to him, "What is that?"
Brain folds his arms, "It's a massive desert to the east of here."
"It's actually where I was born."
Ainz hums thoughtfully, "How big is this desert?"
Brain shrugs, "It's big."
"It stretches out for thousands of miles."
Beta blinks, "Could that be it?"
Everyone turns to her.
"Papa said that he's from the desert." "Could he be in the desert because it reminds him of home?"
Azazel turns to Ainz, "She might be onto something."
"Set's jackal biology could be acting up."
Ainz nods, "Perhaps."
"I must confess that I hadn't considered it."
He waves his hand and the image starts moving.
Aura's eyes widen, "There he is."
Sure enough, the image shoes Set slowly walking across the sands.
Mare's eyes widen, "And there's Anubis."
Anubis is seen following after his father, while keeping back a short distance.
Demiurge cups his chin, "It seems Anubis is trying to keep an eye on Lord Set, while trying not to get in his way."
Ainz lifts his hand and summons a small magic circle, "Set, can you hear me?"
Set doesn't respond, but Ainz knows he heard him due to his ears twitching.
Ainz frowns, "Set, don't ignore me."
Azazel puts a hand on his shoulder, "Let me try."
He clears his throat, "Set, please answer us."
"We just want to know where you are going."
Set stops moving and is quiet for a moment.
After a while of silence, he finally speaks, "You could never understand."
"Either of you."
Both players frown, 'What is he talking about?'
Set starts walking again, "You and Ainz both have people of your own to converse with."
"I have nothing."
Azazel's eyes widen, 'It's just as we suspected.'
Ainz turns to him, 'What do you mean?'
Azazel sighs, 'It's his body now, not just his avatar.'
'The body's physiology and lore is affecting his mind, his psyche.' 'He's starting to become Set, not just play him.'
Ainz's eyes flash, 'I was afraid of that.'
'This means we could be next.'
He clears his nonexistent throat, "What exactly are you trying to say?"
Set growls, "This world is not lacking in undead and there are angels to be found."
"There are no others like me." "I am alone."
He stops again and the air around him ripples as his magic responds to his emotions.
Azazel's eyes widen, "Set, calm down!"
"Getting angry is not going to help."
Set takes a deep breath to calm himself and blows steam from his nostrils.
He continues his trek through the desert, "I need some time."
"I'm sorry for worrying everyone but if I don't get out, I'm going to kill someone without meaning too."
He shakes his head, "I just can't seem to relax lately."
"I've felt nothing but frustration."
Ainz hums, "I see."
"Do what you have to do." "We will be waiting for your return."
Azazel nods, "We'll be here."
Set nods in confirmation and continues his wanderings, Anubis faithfully following.
Ainz turns to the others, "Everyone continue with your assigned tasks."
"There's no telling when Set will return."
Azazel nods, "In the meantime, Ainz and I will continue our adventuring."
They all bow, "Yes, lords."
Set and Anubis' wandering proves to be uneventful for the most part. This changes when they both feel the ground to start shaking.
Anubis looks around, "Something's coming."
"Something big."
Set summons his polearm, "Get ready."
The ground beneath Set breaks away as a massive set of teeth closes around him and drags him under.
Anubis' eyes widen, "Father!"
He looks around, before jumping back as a massive creature bursts from the ground and roars in pain. It slams into ground and groans. Suddenly, the side of it is sliced open, gallons of blood pouring out all over the sand.
Set coughs and hacks as he climbs out of the creature's body.
Anubis runs up to him, "Father!"
He looks over his father sighs in relief at his father not being hurt.
"Father, what was that?"
Set stands up straight, "Sand Worms."
He looks around and clenches his polearm, "Be on guard, my son."
"Sand Worms are apex predators that will devour anything and everything." "And they rarely travel alone."
At that moment, sand geysers erupt nearby. A small horde of Sand Worms burst from the ground, roaring in anger. It doesn't take too long for the two of them to slay all the Sand Worms, with Set placing their corpses into his inventory in case they are worth something. They continue their walk, slaying any other creature that tries to attack them.
They end up coming to a stop when they hear the crying and screaming on a child. They turn to each other, before they begin searching for the source of the sound. They manage to find it; there is a child in a small cage that is surrounded by a small gang of about 6 bandits.
Set turns to his son, "I'll handle this."
"You go take care of the child."
Anubis, "Yes, father."
Set kneels down, pouring all the strength into his legs. He leaps high into the air and comes back down like a meteor. He lands on top of one of the bandits, splattering him all over the ground. The rest of the bandits all freak out and jump to try and pull out their weapons.
Set shoots forward and grabs another one by the face and lifts him up before he squeezes and crushes his head. He tosses the body aside and immediately sets to work taking out the rest.
Anubis walks over to the cage, "Hello?"
"Are you alright little one?"
The child looks up at him, making his eyes widen.
Set quickly makes work of the remaining bandits. The first he slams into ground and then stomps on his head, splattering his brains onto the sand. The second he grabs by the arms and slowly pulls until he is ripped in half. The third he grabs around the throat and yanks on it, ripping the entire spine out. The fourth and final bandit he grabs by the shoulder with one hand and with the other hand, he rams it straight through his torso.
Set growls as he looks over the bodies of the bandits.
"Father."
He turns and walks over to the cage, "How is she?"
His eyes widen in absolute shock; the child is a jackal.
She sniffs, "Who are you?"
Set turns to Anubis, "Get her out of there, now."
Anubis nods and smashes the lock on the cage with his staff. The child slowly walks out of the cage and looks up at them with a nervous expression.
She starts to tear up, "I want my mommy."
Anubis hugs her and starts to comfort her, "It'll be okay little one, you're safe now."
Set is silent, his mind racing.
'How is this possible?' 'If she's here, does that mean…?'
He kneels down, causing the child to squeak in fear.
"Where do you come from, little one?"
She wipes her eyes, "My village was attacked by bandits."
"He took me from my mommy and put me in a cage."
He frowns, "Do you think you could find your way back home."
She shakes her head, "They kept me blindfolded."
Anubis hums, "Is there some sort of spell that we could use?"
Set nods, "I think I might know one."
He slowly reaches his hand out, so as not to frighten the child and places it on her head. His eyes glow white as he scans through her memories. Once he's finished scanning, he turns to see a small trail of light leading into the distance.
"This way."
Anubis picks the child up, "Hold on little one, we'll take you back to your mommy."
She smiles, "Thank you."
Anubis starts to follow after his father, "By the way, what's your name?"
She looks up at him, "My name is Ife."
He smiles, "My name is Anubis."
He points to Set, "That is my father, Lord Set."
Her eyes widen, "You're daddy is a giant."
Anubis chuckles, "Yes, he is rather big, isn't he?"
"I also have a sister, but she's not with us right now."
Ife blinks, "Is she pretty?"
He smiles, "Yes, she's very pretty."
Set continues to follow the trail, Anubis faithfully following after him. They walk for almost half a day, when they hear some commotion approaching them. Set growls, while Anubis moves to stand behind his father. Their eyes both widen in shock to see a small pack of jackals approaching them on camelback.
The pack slides to a stop at the sight of Set. The jackals' eyes widen and they whisper amongst themselves.
"Look at him, he's massive." "Where did he come from?" "He's definitely not from around here."
The leader climbs off of his camel and approaches Set, "Greetings, my name is Asim."
"Who are you?"
"Daddy!"
His eyes widen and Set looks over his shoulder to see Anubis walk into sight.
Asim gasps, "Ife!"
Anubis walks up and hands the child to him.
Ife snuggles into her father's shoulder, "Daddy."
Asim starts to tear up, "My child."
He looks up, "Thank you."
Anubis smiles, "There is no need to thank us."
"We couldn't allow a child to suffer such horror."
Asim nods, "I see."
"Who are you two?"
Anubis hums, "My name is Anubis."
He gestures to Set, "This is my father, Lord Set."
Asim holds his hand out, "I thank you from the bottom of my heart."
Set clasps his hand, "As my son said, you don't need to thank me."
Asim gains a serious look, "The bandits…would I be right to assume that they no longer draw breath?"
Set nods, "I took care of them personally."
"They will not be troubling your village any longer."
Asim nods, "Good."
Set frowns, "This village of yours."
"How far is it from here?"
Asim hums, "From where we currently are; it's about half a day from here."
Anubis nods, "We've been walking for half a day."
"So the bandits made it a full day's ride."
One of the other jackals turns to Asim, "Asim, it is getting late."
"Perhaps we should camp down for the night."
Asim looks up at the sky, "I think you're right."
"Alright, everyone set up camp."
The jackals immediately set up camp, with Asim sitting near the fire with Ife.
He gives Set a contemplative look, "So where you do come from?"
"We've met others like us, but we've never seen one of your size."
Set hums, "I doubt you would believe me."
"My story is rather crazy."
Asim smiles, "You'd be surprised."
"I've heard a lot of crazy things over the years and many of them turned out to be true."
Set shrugs, "Very well."
He un-equips his armor, "We are not from this world."
Asim blinks, "Okay…that's a new one."
He shakes his head, "Tell me more."
Set looks up at the sky, "The world I lived in was known as IRL."
He smiles, "I lived in a desert kingdom called Egypt."
He looks back at Asim, "My people and I prospered."
"As for my size, well…that's hard to explain."
Asim turns to Anubis, "You said that Anubis is your son."
"Yet he is much smaller than you."
Set chuckles, "He takes after his mother."
Ife turns to Anubis, "Is your mommy beautiful?"
Anubis swallows and looks away from her.
Asim's eyes widen, before giving Set a sympathetic look, "She's passed on, hasn't she?"
Set nods, "Yes."
Asim smiles, "What was her name?"
Set has a sad smile, "Her name was Nephthys."
"Anubis was an infant when she passed, so he has no memories of her."
Asim smiles and hugs his daughter to himself, "Ife's mother is named Dalila."
"She is the love of my life, my desert flower."
Ife looks up at her father, "He has a daughter too."
Asim blinks, "Is that so?"
"Is she not with you?"
Anubis hums, "My sister is back at home."
Set grunts, "Her name is Lupusregina Beta."
Asim blinks, "That's a…unusual name."
Set grunts again, "Blame it on her mother."
Asim chuckles, "I hear that."
He looks at Anubis, "How much older is she than you?"
Anubis blinks, "She's my younger sister."
Asim's eyes widen, "But you said that you were an infant when she passed away."
He turns to Set, "They have different mothers, don't they?"
Set narrows his eyes, "Is that a problem?"
Asim looks uncomfortable, "Our people traditionally mate for life."
Set scoffs, "So did I."
"When I married her, it was for life." "I never had any intention of falling in love again."
He snorts, "Love isn't something that follows tradition."
"It just happens beyond our control."
Asim nods, "I'm not disputing that."
"I personally have no problem, but the elders of our village may take issue."
Set snorts steam out of his nostrils, "I don't answer to anyone."
"I made my choice, and I'm not going to feel about it just because some old relics say I should."
They choose not to say anything else on the subject and bed down for the night. In the morning the group all packs up and get ready for the trip back to the village.
Set changes back into his armor, "Let's go, we're heading back."
Anubis bows his head, "Yes, father."
Ife gains a sad look, "You're leaving already?"
Asim smiles, "Why don't you come to our village?"
"I can give you a good meal, it's the least can do for saving my daughter."
Set frowns, "I don't know."
"Like you said, the elders will judge me and I don't want to end up having to commit a massacre."
The group shivers at his cold tone and words.
Asim smiles, "I insist."
Set groans, "Oh…very well."
He turns to Anubis, "Go get your sister."
"If we're going to do this, then we're doing it as a family."
Anubis nods, "Of course."
He teleports out, shocking the whole group.
Asim looks at Set with wide eyes, "You can use magic?"
Set nods, "It was necessary where I'm from."
Asim shakes his head, "Anyway, what about your daughter's mother?"
"Will she be coming as well?"
Set turns to the horizon, "She has passed on as well."
Asim gives him an understanding look, "I see."
"I can't imagine what that feels like."
With Anubis.
He arrives back at Nazarick and immediately reaches his senses out to locate his sister. He detects her in the Throne Room. He teleports there and heads inside in time to catch Beta giving her report to Ainz and Azazel.
"And that's the most report, my lords."
Ainz nods, "Very good."
"Continue your great service to Nazarick."
She bows her head, "Yes, my lords."
Anubis takes this as his cue, "Sister."
Beta turns to him with wide eyes, "Big brother?"
Azazel blinks, "Anubis, you're back."
He bows his head, "Yes, Lord Azazel."
Aura looks around, "Did Lord Set come back with you?"
Anubis shakes his head, "Not yet."
He turns to Beta, "Father has requested your presence."
Beta blinks, "Papa wants to see me?"
Anubis nods, "That is correct."
Albedo frowns, "Did something happen?"
Anubis hums, "We've managed to find others like us."
This causes murmurs to break out all over the room.
Ainz's eyes flash, "Other jackals?"
"Are you certain?"
He nods, "Yes, my lord."
Azazel gains a business-like demeanor, "How did you come across them?"
Anubis hums, "Father and I were making our way across the desert."
"We had a slight delay due to be attacked by a pack of Sand Worms."
Ainz and Azazel turn to each other.
Azazel turns back to Anubis, "Did you say Sand Worms?"
Anubis nods, "Yes, there were about a dozen of them, my lord."
Azazel cups his chin, "Sand Worm corpses could be worth a lot of money."
Ainz nods, "That's true."
"Back in Yggdrasil they were high-risk targets that offered high reward."
He hums, "Continue, Anubis."
Anubis nods, "Yes, my lord."
"After slaying the Sand Worms, we continued our journey." "We eventually came across a little girl that had been taken from her village by bandits."
This causes the other NPC's to hiss in anger.
Azazel snarls, "I take it Set took exception to that?"
Anubis nods, "Yes, my lord."
"Father made quick work of the bandits."
Shalltear smirks, "Good, such is the fate of scum."
Albedo nods, "I agree, Shalltear."
"They should have known better than to anger a Supreme Being."
Demiurge adjusts his glasses, "Especially by abducting one of his people."
Anubis nods, "After eliminating the bandits, we rescued the child, who introduced herself is Ife."
"Father decided to bring Ife back to her village and we walked for half a day, when we encountered a pack of jackals."
He hums, "The pack's leader was Asim; Ife's father."
"He thanked us for saving his child and invited us to the village for a feast." "We bedded down for the night, during which Set formally introduced himself."
He turns to Beta, "That is why father wishes for Beta."
"He wants us to feast as a family."
Beta gives Ainz and Azazel a hopeful look.
They chuckle, "It's fine, go ahead."
She cheers, "Yes!"
Anubis grabs onto her shoulder and teleports them out of the Tomb.
Azazel smirks, "I think this is really good news."
Yuri turns to him, "What do you mean, Lord Azazel?"
Azazel hums, "Set's recent outbursts came from a sense of loneliness."
"Not having any of his people around."
He smiles, "But now, he's finally found a way to fill the emptiness inside of him."
Ainz nods, "Yes."
"And he will be stronger in the future because of it."
Set has his eyes closed as he waits for his children to return, while Asim smiles as he plays with Ife.
"Papa!"
Set smiles and slowly opens his eyes as Beta runs over to him and latches onto him.
He chuckles, "Hello sweetie."
"How has your mission been going?"
Beta grins, "It's been awesome!"
Asim blinks, "I thought you said you were getting your daughter?"
Set raises an eyebrow, "This is my daughter."
The pack's eyes all widen and they start to murmur amongst themselves.
Set narrows his eyes, "What is it this time?"
Asim swallows, "Well, the elders of our tribe frown upon mating with someone of a different race."
Set growls, "Well that's not my problem."
"Lupa was my love, and Beta is the greatest gift she ever gave me."
He lets go of Beta and stands up, before walking up to Asim.
He leans down, their faces almost touching, "I'm only going to warn you once."
"You can say whatever you want about me." "But say or do anything to either of my children."
His eyes glow, "And I'll raze your village to the ground."
Asim starts to sweat in fear.
"Same species or not, I don't know you." "My children mean everything to me, you can honestly say mean absolutely nothing to me."
Asim nods, "Understood."
He puts Ife onto his camel, "Follow us, we'll take you to the village."
Set and his children follow after the pack as they make their way towards the jackal village. They travel for half a day, before finally reaching the village. Set and his children's eyes widen at the sight of the village. The village isn't huge, but it isn't tiny either, so it's a good size. There are jackals moving about and continuing on their daily routines.
One of the jackals notices the pack, "They're back!"
The rest of the jackals all start running towards the end of the village to meet with them.
A female runs to the center of the group, "Ife!"
Ife smiles, "Mommy!"
Asim climbs off of his camel and hands her to her mother.
Dalila begins to cry in happiness at having her daughter back, "My baby."
Asim walks over and hugs his family, "We are together again."
Dalila smiles at her husband, "You saved her."
He shakes his head, "Not me."
He points behind him, "I had help."
Everyone's eyes widen at the sight of Set and his children.
Asim smiles, "They saved Ife and met us half way."
Dalila smiles, "Thank you."
"You brought my precious baby back to me."
Anubis hums, "There's no need to thank us."
"We saw a child in danger and stepped in."
A group of elders step up to them.
Their leader scowls at them, "Asim, why did you bring these outsiders to our village?"
Asim frowns, "They saved my daughter."
The elder scoffs, "And I told you to forget about your daughter."
"It was not worth risking the safety of the village to retrieve one child."
Dalila hugs her daughter closer, "If it was your child, you would have ordered us to rescue them without any time to prepare."
The elder turns his nose up, "We are more important."
"Our wisdom and experience makes us a priority."
Set narrows his eyes, "You're not worth shit."
This causes the elders to hiss while everyone else gasps.
Set walks up to the elder, "I had people like you back in Egypt."
"They thought they had the authority to control everything and everyone because they were old and wise."
He smirks, "Do you want to know what happened to them?"
He leans down, "I stuck their heads on pikes."
"And their bodies I threw into a beetle pit."
The elders all turn pale and unconsciously take a step back.
Set snorts, "Bunch of cowards."
"If this village were to be invaded, you would abandon it to save your own skin in a heartbeat."
The elders hiss at him, before turning and running away with their tails between their legs. The younger warriors, Asim included, all smirk at the elders being taken down a peg.
Asim turns to his wife, "Dalila, I wondering if you could make some of your delicious cooking for our new friends."
Delila smiles, "Of course, it's the least I can do."
With everything settled, the village sets up a huge feast in the center of town. Set, Anubis and Beta are set up near the center of the gathering.
Set grabs a piece of fruit and examines it before taking a bite.
"It's good."
Everyone cheers and starts to dig in.
Beta grins as she bites into a hunk of meat, "It's so delicious."
Anubis nods as he drinks from a goblet of wine, "She truly is a fantastic cook."
Dalila smiles, "I'm glad you like it."
One of the older men, but not an elder turns to Set, "So, your name is Lord Set?"
Set hums, "That's what people call me."
Asim chuckles, "This is my father Ur."
Ur hums, "So who is this fine gentleman with you?"
Set takes a bite out of his fruit, "This is my son, Anubis."
Ur nods in appreciation, "He looks strong."
He smiles, "He must take after his father."
Set laughs, "I hope not."
"I think he takes after his mother more."
This makes Ur and the other fathers all chuckle.
Dalila smiles, "And who is this delightful young lady?"
Beta grins, "My name is Beta, it's nice to meet you."
All the women in the group can't help but squeal, 'So cute.'
One of the elders sneers, "I don't understand why he needed to bring his servant with him."
Asim and the others that were with him all take in a sharp intake of breath.
Dalila blinks, "Asim?"
Set reaches over and starts to rub Beta's head, making her blush and purr at the affection.
"She's my daughter."
This causes murmurs to spread through the gathering.
Dalila smiles, "So you adopted a child."
"I think that's wonderful."
Asim clears his throat, "Dalila, she's not adopted."
This causes everyone who didn't know's eyes to widen.
Dalila has a shocked look, "She's yours by blood?"
Set nods, "That's right."
"And I don't give a damn what anyone thinks." "It's my life and I'm not going to apologize for any choice I've made."
The lead elder sneers at him, "You should be ashamed of yourself."
"You have shamed our people by mixing blood with other races."
Set climbs to his feet and dons his armor, "Let's get one thing straight."
"I'm not like you." "We may look alike, but we are not the same."
He turns to Asim, "You asked me where I came from."
"Well I'll tell you."
He smirks, "I come from beyond the stars."
"A world far different than this one."
This causes shocked murmurs to spread throughout the crowd.
Ife has an amazed look, "There are other worlds?"
Set smiles, "Oh yes, there are countless."
"I myself came from a world known as IRL."
He sits back down and gazes at the fire, "I lived in a desert kingdom known as Egypt."
He smiles, "It was so beautiful."
"There was nothing else like it." "It was unlike any kingdom you'd ever seen."
He turns back to the fire, "My family and I were worshipped as gods by the people of Egypt."
Ur's eyes widen, "You're a god!?"
Set shrugs, "I've never once considered myself to be a god."
"Gods are fickle beings who care nothing for the people who worship them."
Asim chuckles, "So jackals are gods in your world."
Set laughs, causing everyone to give him a bewildered look.
Beta blinks, "Papa?"
Set gives everyone a fanged grin, "Nephthys, Anubis and I were the only jackals in the family."
Everyone's eyes widen again, "What!?"
Set nods, "My brother Osiris took on the form of a human."
"While our father Ra took on the form of a falcon."
He chuckles, "It goes even further."
"My nephews, Horus and Sobek, take on the forms of a falcon and crocodile respectively."
Dalila hums, "You have a weird family."
Set grunts, "You don't know the half of it."
"My grandmother Geb and uncle Khepri were the weirdest by far." "Geb took on the form of a massive being made of stone, water and vegetation, while Khepri had the form of a massive scarab beetle."
Ife looks up at him, "What were you the god of?"
Set cups his chin, "Well, it really depended on the god."
"Some of us had multiple assignments, some only had one."
He points to Anubis, "Anubis was too young to have officially been given a title when Egypt fell."
"But his mother and I had decided on God of the Dead."
Asim cringes, "The dead?"
Set nods, "He would have been in charge of funerals and taking care of the bodies of the deceased."
Ur nods, "A truly important task."
Dalila blinks, "What about your wife?"
Set scratches his chin, "Nephthys?"
"She had a number of titles, but her main ones were Mourning, Night and Childbirth."
He hums, "As for myself, I also had multiple titles."
"Such as Storms, Violence, Disorder and Foreigners." "However, my main title was God of the Desert."
He turns his gaze to Asim, "Eventually, IRL fell to ruin and my comrades and I had to leave."
"Nephthys had already passed on by that point, so I took Anubis with me."
He reaches over and starts petting Beta again, "We arrived in a world known as Yggdrasil."
"It was there that I met Lupa and had Beta."
Dalila smiles, "How did you come to this world?"
Set frowns, "To be completely honest, I'm not entirely sure."
"Yggdrasil had begun to die and we were entirely prepared to die with it." "But instead of being consigned to oblivion, we awoke in this world."
He looks up at the sky, "So, we decided to make ourselves a home here and ensure that our people survive and thrive."
Ur nods, "Tell me, how many jackals came with you?"
Set shakes his head, "None."
"My people were hunted down to extinction and there were none in Yggdrasil."
He turns to him, "I am the last of my kind."
Asim swallows, "I see."
Set stands up, "I think it's time for us to go."
Ife frowns, "Awe, really?"
He chuckles, "Sorry, little one."
"I would love to stay, but I have responsibilities elsewhere."
She sniffs, "You'll come and visit sometime, right?"
Set smiles and pats her head, "I promise."
He rolls his shoulders, "Before I go, there is one last thing I need to do."
Ur blinks, "What's that?"
Set raises his hand, causing sand to rise up and cover the elders' bodies.
"Dufin Alraml."
The sand solidifies and crushes their bodies, freaking out everyone else.
"There, you are free."
He puts his hand on Ur's shoulder, "It's up to you now to lead this village into the future."
"Do not allow antiquated elders control your life."
He nods, "I will, I swear."
Set lifts his hand and summons a mystical rune. He slams the hand onto the ground, sending out magic through the village.
Asim's eyes widen, "What did you do?"
Set hums, "I placed a protection ward around the village."
"Should this village run into any trouble, the rune will activate and alert me instantly."
Ife hugs his leg, "Thank you."
He smiles, "Farewell."
He and his children disappear and arrive back at the Tomb.
Ainz and Azazel are meeting with the NPC's, when Ainz turns and gazes at the door.
Albedo gives him a concerned look, "Is something wrong, "Lord Ainz?"
Ainz's eyes flash, "He's here."
All the NPC's straighten up and try to make themselves more presentable. After a short wait, the doors to the room open.
The NPC's all bow their heads, "Welcome back, Lord Set."
Ainz and Azazel stand up, "Welcome back."
Azazel grins, "How was it?"
Set sighs, "I'm not sure."
Ainz frowns, "What do you mean?"
"Isn't it what you wanted, to find others of your species?"
Set nods, "It was, for a long time it was."
He shakes his head, "But now I don't know what to do."
"I wanted it for so long and now that I've found it…" "What do I do now?"
Demiurge adjusts his glasses, "Perhaps you need a new purpose my lord."
"A new goal to strive for."
Sebas nods, "He's right, my lord."
"A new purpose may be what you need to push forward."
Set frowns, "A new purpose, hmm."
He closes his eyes and begins to think. Everyone waits patiently for him to speak.
He slowly opens his eyes, "Our friends; I want to see them again."
"Despite finding my people, I still feel empty."
He gains a sad look, "I think it's the absence of our friends that continues to haunt me."
"We were a family and they just left us." "I understand why they left and I don't blame them, but it still hurts."
Ainz and Azazel both go quiet and secretly clench their fists at the reminder.
Set exhales steam from his nostrils, "What I want…"
"Is to find our friends and for our family to be whole again."
Ainz and Azazel stand up, "As do we."
The three of them grasp their hands together, "Together."
The NPC's all smile at their lords' loyalty and comradery.
Demiurge clears his throat, "Apologies for ruining the moment, my lords."
"But I think I've found something that could be of use in our path moving forwards."
Ainz turns to him, "Tell us, Demiurge."
He smirks, "Some of the undead doing reconnaissance informed me of a swampland near here."
"The swamp is under the control of a tribe of Lizardmen."
Azazel smirks, "Lizardmen huh?"
He turns to his friends, "Do you think we should check it out?"
Set has a bloodthirsty grin, "I'm in."
"I haven't fought Lizardmen in a long time."
Ainz's eyes flash, "Very well."
"Then we shall go and face them."
Azazel blinks, "That reminds me."
"Anubis told me you found some Sand Worms."
Set nods, "Oh yeah."
"I honestly forgot about that."
He snaps his fingers, causing the Sand Worm corpses to appear on the throne room floor.
Azazel whistles, "Nice."
"These could make us a ton of money."
He turns to Ainz, "Maybe we should ask Nfirea if there are any potions that can be made from them."
Ainz puts a finger under his chin, "That's not a bad idea."
Set hums, "Before I forget…"
"Aura, I've found myself a pet and I need you to help train it."
Aura gets stars in her eyes, "Really!?"
Set nods, "I was planning on having it as a guard for the fourth floor."
She salutes, "I won't let you down."
Azazel deadpans, "What is it with you two?"
"One of you gets something and the other needs it too."
Set grins, "Jealous?"
Azazel rolls his eyes, "Sure…"
He reaches into his inventory and pulls out a small sack. He puts the sack onto the floor and opens the top. The sack starts to shake and wiggle, before a small head pops out.
Azazel raises an eyebrow, "Is that a baby Sand Worm?"
Set smiles and pets its head, making it chitter at the affection.
Aura and Mare have amazed looks, "It's so cute."
Set hands the sack to them, "I'm counting on you."
