Disclaimer: I don't own Overlord

I own nothing but this story and my characters

I need to rant about something before we start. Somebody posted something and it honestly pissed me off. They said that they were going to stop reading simply because I have Set speaking Arabic. They basically called me a lazy idiot that didn't do any research.

Well, I obviously did more research than them. They said that it didn't make sense for an Egyptian person to speak Arabic. Newsflash, Arabic is the # 1 spoken language of Egypt.

They said that it didn't make sense for Set to be speaking Arabic because the language didn't exist back then. Well, it most certainly did exist back then, this person must have never heard of Ancient Arabia.

Finally, they said it was unrealistic for someone from a polytheistic region to speak a language that they claim is monotheistic. My argument for that is the fact that Ancient Arabia was pre-Islam. And also, there were plenty of gods and creatures in Ancient Arabian folklore.

Okay, rant is over.

Chapter 8: Lizardmen

The three players have kept themselves busy ever since the incident with the jackals. Ainz, Narberal and Hamsuke have been continuing their adventurer's career. Azazel has continued to prosper within the empire and has earned himself a place amongst the nobles. Finally, Set and his group alternate between adventuring and making trips to the jackal village, which have prospered under Nazarick's protection.

Ainz returns to his office, only to find Albedo waiting for him.

She blushes, "Welcome back, my beloved Lord Ainz."

Ainz inwardly cringes, "Hello, Albedo."

"What are you doing here?"

Albedo shivers, "Newlywed duties, my lord."

Ainz cringes again, 'Aw man, this is getting insane.'

'I really don't want to deal with this.' 'She's only like this because I messed with her programming.'

He completely ignores her ramblings.

'I mean, there's no denying that she's drop dead gorgeous, but I've never really wooed a woman before.'

He clears his nonexistent throat, "That's enough Albedo."

"As much as I would like to discuss such things with you, we have business to attend to first."

Albedo stands up straight, "Yes, of course."

"Forgive me, my lord."

Ainz sits at his desk, "Gather Azazel and Set, then bring them to my office."

Albedo bows, "At once, Lord Ainz."

Ainz slaps his hand to his face, "I don't know how much longer I can hold off on this."

It doesn't take too long for Albedo to return with his fellow players.

Ainz gestures to the chairs around his desk, "Please sit down."

"There's something we need to talk about."

Azazel hums, "What's on your mind, Ainz?"

Ainz nods, "I've been thinking over our actions, moving forward."

Set raises an eyebrow, "What did you have in mind?"

Ainz pulls out a rolled-up piece of parchment, "This is the world map that we received in E-Rantel."

Albedo frowns, "That's all!?"

Ainz nods, "It doesn't seem like much."

"But I'm not surprised."

Azazel smirks, "Yeah, the people of this continent have never seen the outside world."

"They probably think this is all there is to this world."

Set scratches his chin, "After we're done in here, we'll need to spread out and see what else this world has to offer."

Ainz nods in agreement, "I considered that myself."

"After all, if we are to search for our friends." "Then we'll need to search beyond this continent."

Ainz points to a location on the map, "This is the Great Tomb of Nazarick."

"To the west, we have the Re-Estize Kingdom."

Set snorts, "We've done pretty good for ourselves."

"Our reputation in the Kingdom is taking root."

Azazel points to the map, "Then we have the Baharuth Empire to the east."

"They attack the Kingdom constantly and this has a severe effect on the Kingdom's economy and resources."

He smirks, "Thanks to my new position, I'm ready to begin sabotaging the Empire from the inside."

Albedo smiles, "Truly my lords have thought of everything."

Ainz points to the map again, "Then to the south, we have the Slane Theocracy."

"It was they who attacked Carne Village."

Albedo snarls, "Those pathetic humans that tried to control Shalltear."

Ainz turns to her, "Albedo, in your opinion, which of these are the biggest threat."

Albedo gains a thoughtful look, "I would have to say the Theocracy, my lord."

"Out of the three, they are the ones we know the least about."

Ainz hums, 'She's right.'

'I'm actually glad she's here.'

Azazel scowls, "I'm going to enjoy removing them from the board."

"They attacked someone precious to me and must pay the consequences."

Set gains a bloodthirsty look, "Not to mention their crimes against other people like us."

Ainz points to a different point on the map, "I've located a number of locations that might be of interest to us."

He points out a spot to the south, "This the Holy Kingdom of Roble."

"They are a religious kingdom, though thankfully, not to the same extent as the Theocracy."

Set grunts, "Let me guess…"

"They hate people like us too?"

Ainz nods, "Yes, but I don't think it's the same level of hatred as the Theocracy."

"They primarily clash with the demi-human tribes of the Abelion Hills."

Albedo blinks, "The Abelion Hills?"

"Isn't that where you sent Demiurge, my lord?"

Ainz nods, "I sent him there to acquire the materials needed to create magical scrolls."

"The area itself is inhabited by numerous tribes of demi-humans."

Set grins, "Sounds like my king of place."

"We'll have to visit sometime."

Azazel cups his chin, "That's not a bad idea."

"Set's proven that we can cooperate with the non-humans of this world." "We should see about possibly forming connections with them."

Ainz points to the map again, "To the south of the Abelion Hills is the Great Forest of Evasha."

"Apparently, the forest itself is the home of various tribes of elves."

Set's eyes flash, "Elves, you say?"

"I think that's where we should send the twins."

Azazel turns to him, "You want to send Aura and Mare there?"

Set nods, "I think being around other elves might help them in the long run."

Azazel smiles, "When you put it like that."

He turns to Ainz, "I think he's right."

"Aura and Mare really should be exposed to other elves."

Ainz nods, "I agree."

"When the time is right, we will bring the twins to the forest."

Turns his attention back to the map, "Next is the Azerlisia Mountains."

"According to what Ninya told me, the mountains hide a great kingdom of dwarves."

This causes his friends' eyes to light up, "Dwarves!?"

Ainz nods, "There is also rumored to be dragons in the mountains as well."

The room goes silent, before Set leaps to his feet, "Hell yeah!"

"We're going!"

He flexes his muscles, "Do you have any idea how long I've been waiting for the chance to duke it out with a dragon!?"

Azazel rolls his shoulder, "It's been far too long."

"They should prove a decent challenge."

Ainz deadpans, 'Of course these idiots only think of fighting them.'

He shakes his head, "Anyway, the final point of interest is a place known as the Great Lake."

"It's where the tribe of Lizardmen that Demiurge located is taking up residence."

Set's eyes flash, "I'm going."

Azazel raises an eyebrow, "Is something wrong?"

Set shakes his head, "I don't know."

"Ever since I heard about these Lizardmen, I've felt something calling out to me."

He frowns, "I need to check out this place for myself."

Ainz hums, "Very well, you may accompany Cocytus on his mission."

"But I want you to observe only." "This is his mission."

Set nods in understand, "I hear you."

"I won't get in his way."

Ainz turns to Albedo, "Albedo, gather everyone in the throne room."

She smiles, "Yes, my lord."

After she leaves, he turns to Set, "Is everything alright?"

Set frowns, "What do you mean?"

Azazel gives him a concerned look, "We had thought that finding other jackals would help."

"But you still seem agitated."

Set looks down, "I don't know how to explain it."

"My mind is becoming something else."

Azazel nods, "We know, our minds are being influenced by our new bodies."

Set shakes his head, "That's not what I'm talking about."

"My memories have been affected."

Ainz frowns, "What do you mean?"

Set sits back down, "I have two sets of memories now."

"All that lore we created; I actually remember it as if I was there."

Azazel raises an eyebrow, "You mean Egypt and your wives?"

Set nods, "I remember the feeling of the sand under my feet and the smells of the city."

"I remember the feeling of their flesh pressed against mine and the birth of my children."

He turns to them, "I still remember being human, but I also remember being Set."

Ainz hums, "I see…that is indeed concerning."

Azazel folds his arms, "Does this mean that we're next?"

Ainz frowns, "We just might."

"But we'll work through it together when that time comes."

He stands up, "For now, we need to focus on our goals."

Everyone gathers in the throne room.

Ainz' eyes flare, "I thank you all for your hard work."

"But now we have work to do."

Albedo bows her head, "We await your orders, Lord Ainz."

Ainz turns to Demiurge, "Demiurge, regarding your mission."

"Can you provide a steady supply?"

Demiurge hums, "I believe so, my lord."

"However, I will need a new source for stronger scrolls."

Ainz nods, "I see."

"Tell me, what is the name of this creature you have been using."

Demiurge smirks, "I've taken to calling them Abelion Sheep."

Ainz cups his chin, "Interesting."

Set and Azazel share a look, having seen through Demiurge's words.

Ainz turns to Cocytus, "Cocytus, I'll be awaiting your report."

Cocytus exhales, "Yes, my lord."

Ainz' eyes flare again, "Also, Set will be accompanying you."

This causes surprised looks to appear on the faces off the Guardians.

Cocytus pincers tap each other, "My lord?"

Azazel smiles, "You don't need to worry, Cocytus."

"Set will not interfere with your mission." "He wants to see the Lizardmen for himself."

Ainz nods, "He wants to see the battle first-hand."

Cocytus bows his head, "I will endeavor to not disappoint you, my lord."

Set smirks, "I no you won't."

"I'm looking forward to it."

With their meeting concluded, the group separates and leaves to fulfill their assigned tasks.

Set, Cocytus and Entoma teleport to a building in the forest.

Entoma gestures to it, "This is where we will be conducting the battle, Lord Set."

Set hums, "I see."

"It'll do."

Set turns to Cocytus, "Cocytus, prepare whatever it is you need."

He turns towards the direction of the lake, "I'm going scout out the lake."

"I want to see these Lizardmen."

Cocytus bows his head, "Of course, my lord."

Set begins his trek through forest and eventually arrives at a cliff face overlooking the lake. His vantage point grants him a great view of the village and the Lizardmen that inhabit it.

He sits down, "They look so happy."

"It's as if they don't have a care in the world."

He chuckles, "This is not at all what I was expecting."

"Things truly are different from Yggdrasil." "In Yggdrasil, Lizardmen were savages who enjoyed killing and war."

"What will you do?"

Set's eyes widen, 'How did someone sneak up on me?'

He turns to see an albino crocodile crawl out of the bushes next to him.

The crocodile smiles at him, "Now that you've seen the difference between the Lizardmen you know and the ones you see now."

"What actions will you take?" "Will you slaughter them, or will you spare them?"

Set turns back to the village, "I don't know."

"For the first time, I have no idea what I'm going to do."

The crocodile hums, "It's quite the conundrum."

"But then again, this isn't the first time you've had to make moral choices."

Set turns to him with a frown, "Who are you?"

The crocodile smirks, "Surely you haven't forgotten me…uncle."

Set's eyes widen, "Sobek!?"

Sobek chuckles, "In the flesh…so to speak."

Set frowns, "No, you're not real."

"You're just a delusion my fucked-up mind has conjured up to torment me."

Sobek walks over and lies down next to him, "Maybe I am, maybe not."

"I'll let you figure that out for yourself."

Set doesn't say anything, "If you are real, then how are you here?"

Sobek hums, "I don't exactly know myself."

"I was trapped in darkness, only to find myself thrusted into the light."

He looks up at Set, "When my eyes opened, I found myself here."

"In this body."

Set hums, "Do you know anything about these Lizardmen?"

Sobek grunts, "This particular tribe is known as the Green Claw."

Set frowns, "This is just one tribe?"

Sobek nods, "There are actually five tribes."

"Although there were originally seven."

Set raises an eyebrow, "What happened to the other two?"

Sobek grins, "There was a war years ago."

"The Green claw allied with two of the other tribes and wiped them out."

Set snarls, "What was this war about?"

Sobek hums, "It was mainly over resources."

"Now they all exist in an uneasy peace."

Set folds his arms, "So they didn't kill them because they enjoyed it?"

Sobek shakes his head, "They are a peaceful race."

"They do have warriors and are skilled fighters, but overall, they prefer not to fight."

Set grunts, "Then perhaps there is hope for them."

Sobek looks up at him, "So does that mean you will spare them?"

Set turns to him, "I will save as many as I can."

Suddenly dark clouds appear above the village, drawing their attention.

Set frowns, "Here we go."

Ainz' messenger appears and gives the Lizardmen its warning before disappearing. He turns to Sobek, only for him to have disappeared as well. Set stands up and heads back to the building, where Entoma and Cocytus are waiting for him, along with other vermin.

Entoma bows her head, "We're ready to begin, my lord."

Set turns to Cocytus, "There's been a change of plans."

"We're not wiping them out."

Cocytus's eyes widen, "My lord?"

Set frowns, "I don't want them exterminated."

"I want them brought under Nazarick's rule."

Cocytus is confused but bows his head, "Very well, my lord."

Set puts a hand on his shoulder, "You don't need to be afraid Cocytus."

"I will take the blame and talk to Ainz."

Cocytus exhales, "Thank you, my lord."

"I will fulfill your wishes without fail."

Set smirks and turns to Entoma, "What exactly is the plan?"

Entoma hums, "We have given them eight days to prepare for our attack."

"We are to use the forces we have been given." "We will not be given reinforcements."

Set cups his chin, "I see."

'So that's his game.' 'If this works, it'll change everything.'

He frowns, 'Who knows how much they can learn.'

Set shakes his head, "Alright, I'll leave you to it."

He smirks, "But remember, I'll be watching."

They all bow, "Yes, Lord Set."
