Private Sessions
Athaga Fulmen, Head Gamemaker
I liked to be in control. Working my way up to Head Gamemaker was child's play for someone of my determination. I wasn't particularly intelligent, though far from stupid. No, my success came from hard work. I was wheeled to my office by my assistant, Maribel Leve. The Capitol could easily fix my paralysis from the waist down, but I chose to live with it. It was a constant reminder of the hardships I faced if I ever stopped working.
"Send the first one in." I commanded.
"Yes, Athaga." Maribel replied. I required everyone to refer to me by my first name. The first girl walked in. She was flawless, living up to her name. She launched herself towards the most skilled trainer we had, and had her disarmed in seconds. That was a twelve for sure. The next tribute came in after she left. He was just as good at first, but then he looked back at the door and stumbled. I was pretty sure it was intentional, but what did I know? The tributes from Two were not as skilled, but they would certainly rack up kills.
Centaurus Pentae, Cornucopia Stocker
Why I was here, I knew. Many gamemakers resented this part of the games, but the private sessions were important to me. The girl from Three did some boring survival stuff. Nothing of note to me. What she needed, she'd figure out. Her partner looked me square in the eye and told me I was overweight. The others began laughing until he tore into each of them as well. The girl from Four would surely be another standard career, I thought. That is until she cleared a table of weapons by throwing them, partially wounding some dummies, and fashioned the wooden table into a surfboard with an axe and knife. Her time ended before she got to use it, but we had an avox confirm it was functional. The boy from Four… embedded an axe into the wall and decapitated three dummies by using his sword as a boomerang. The pair from Five did the exact same thing as each other. Both proceeded to the track, and ran at mediocre paces until a toad somehow got loose, scaring them both into breaking the tribute speed record, the boy slightly faster. The next girl came in and sliced a dummy's face off. Most of her points would be for being terrifying. As her partner entered the room, he began crying, spending his whole time doing so. The next girl was one who I remembered talking with the careers. As she showed her skills, it was clear she picked up a thing or two from them. Next, a boy showed his strength, followed by a bizarre girl. She described how to navigate using Earth's magnetic fields, and she was correct. Her partner was thankfully more normal, finding water. It was lame, but a nice break. The girl from Nine shared some facts, but I wasn't listening. Wonder what they were about.
Athaga Fulmen
The boy from Nine came in. He was stronger than his ally, and demonstrated such. The girl from Ten was odd. She announced she would be using electricity to make an axe glow, but ended up zapping herself. I felt her pain, and was the only one who didn't suggest a 0. Of course, my vote mattered most. Her partner fared better, showing what he had learned with a bow. The girl from 11 built a shelter, and it was kickass. In her short time she built walls, a roof, various rooms, and even a hidden bunker. The boy merely flexed his muscles, which were admittedly impressive, but not necessarily useful. They didn't bother sending the comatose girl in. The boy from Twelve was still wearing rags, glittery ones. He didn't do much.
