Chapter 8, a celebration.

'October… 31st…? 2021.'

'Its been… over a month since i became a Pokémon. I've mostly been doing exploration and scouting out around the village, and me and Ava have gotten to know each other pretty good. I've actually told her most of what i can remember, at this point. My interests, my hobbies, where i used to live, but… for the life of me, if it weren't for this book I wouldn't be able to remember much else. It feels like the transformation has had an effect on my memory. But… I'm living a peaceful life, and one I would have killed for as a human, so I'm continuing on.'

'Todays Avas "hatchday." i guess they wouldn't have birthdays. Mines in 2 months sharp now. It would be the end of march right now, actually. But it isn't. Its October. Our team is getting the day off from Neo and Nova for her hatchday. Anyways, I've gotta go. We're setting up the cabin for it.'

'Ian Eevee, signing off.'

He closed the book yet again, and tossed it back on the bookshelf, sandwiched between a book about prepping for cold weather, and a travel guide, of all things for Noe town.

"Come on, my parents are supposed to arrive in a couple hours!" Ava called, as she stepped outside.

"Yep. coming." Ian stepped out, his now quite scruffy fur blowing in the last October wind. It had gotten quite cold since he had arrived, and there was already half a foot of snow, being shovelled by a Glaceon. Into a large snowbank on the edge of town. There were a few younger Eevee sledding down it, traditional coloured scarves around their necks.

He stepped out, and walked over to Sylveons to take some stuff out of storage. He had gotten Tenpepper to ship in a beautiful, pale pink scarf a couple weeks ago, and he had kept it hidden in storage.

"Aye, ya getting that scarf out?" Sylveon said, as the lone Eevee walked up to the stand.

"Yep. Avas hatchday today. I'm gonna meet her parents, and I want it to be a nice bi- er- hatchday. She deserves it." there was a very slight blush under his fur.

"Ah. that she does. She's a fine lass, alright. Doin good for herself." Sylveon said, as he used a ribbon to hand Ian the scarf. It was fairly long, almost too long for Ava, and was pale pink, with a purple spot in the middle.

"Thanks dude." Ian said, as he left.

"Aye."

He went back to the cabin. Ava had disappeared somewhere around the south gate the last few minutes. He stepped inside the cabin, shaking off some of the snow, and plopped down next to the fireplace, beginning to start a fire. They had already gone through two stacks of wood in the past month.

Neo had even noted their increased wood usage, and had a larger allotment given to them. Ian took a few logs out, and began working on starting a fire. He had gotten quite good at it, despite the stubby new paws.

"You know, where as a human did I learn this anyways? Eh, whatever. Its useful to have." he thought, as the kindling at the bottom lit up like, well, a fire.

He sat back on the large hay pile, and looked at his newest fire. It was one of his better ones since he had gotten here.

The door burst open, and Ava, a Lucario, and a Jolteon walked in. the Lucario was fairly tall, being around 5 feet tall, and had noticeably blue eyes, and an unzipped coat. The Jolteon looks fairly standard, and of course Ava. she stood between them.

"Nice place ya got here, Ava. and whos this?" the Lucario said.

"Oh, uh, hi. I'm Ian. I'm assuming you're Avas dad, Jonah?"

"Yep. sure am kid."

"So mom! I've been doing missions and rescues and stuff, just like you two!" Ava said, as she shut the door, and sat down next to Ian. "Me and Ian started team Supernova!"

"Wow! I can't believe it, my little baby already has her own team and partner!" the Jolteon said, nuzzling up against Ava.

"Oh sarah, cut it out. You know ava doesn't like being nuzzled like that, hell, she's 16 now."

"I know, Jonah! But she's cute!"

Ava sighed, and laughed a bit. "Ok mom…"

Jonah sat down in the one quad chair. "So Ian, I'm assuming if you've been working with Ava for over a month now, she's told you about us?"

"Yep. she even said how you were, uh, a human." Ian responded, awkwardly.

"Oh she did, did she?" he shot a fake-stern look at Ava. "I bet she didn't tell you how Sarah and I saved the world from being paralyzed."

"You saved the world?"

"Yep. me and Sarah, back before we evolved went through a huge fiasco over on the grass continent. Wigglytuff's guild, Dusknoir, the time gears, that was all us. Hell, even Grovyle. I still haven't seen him after everything that happened. I miss him." Jonah explained.

"Wow. you guys are pretty strong then." Ian said, his inner fanboy wowing,

"Yep! We settled down a few years after that, had Ava, and here we are, nearly 20 years later, and she's got herself a partner and discovery team! We couldn't be prouder!" Sarah said.

"Thanks mom."

"So, Jonah… well, everyone but Ava, I need you guys to keep this secret. I'm, uh, actually a human… as well." Ian said.

"...really kid?" Jonah said.

"Yeah. and I don't have any amnesia. At least, not real amnesia."

Jonah sat there, deep in thought for a moment. "This… could be bad. Every other human whos shown up, Churchill, Brandt, Brandon, they all were followed by disaster. The meteor, the Bittercold, Dark Matter… look Ian. whatever happens, you better keep Ava safe, ok? If she dies in the line of fire, whether it be by accident or not, well… you better keep an eye out behind you."

Ian went white as a shiny underneath his fur, and gulped. "I-I know. I'm worried about what's gonna show up with me. But nothings happened yet, sooo…"

"Still, kid. But aside from that… its nice meeting with other humans. And you don't have amnesia? What's the human world really like?" Jonah asked curiously.

"Its fine. A bit depressing if you ask me. too many corrupt leaders. This worlds much simpler." Ian responded.

As the day went on, the 4 Pokémon had left the house. Ava had shown her parents around the village, the hot springs, everywhere. Ian had had some "human" time with Jonah, and it was getting quite late into the day. Eventually, everyone returned to the cabin for the evening.

"Hey, you know, everyone, I just wanted to say thanks. Thanks mom and dad for coming up to see me on my hatchday, and thanks Ian for being here for me the past moon." Ava announced this to everybody, a large smile on her face.

Unbeknownst to everyone there, Ian had actually procured a real gift for her hatchday. The scarf, from earlier, had been for Ava. It cost nearly 500 poke, and was where most of Ian's savings had gone while he was here.

"Hey Ava, did me and your mom give you your gifts yet?" Jonah said, pulling out a leather pouch. "Here ya go, kid. From me and Sarah. Its our old treasure bag, from back when we were in the guild. Here ya go kid." Jonah tossed a worn leather satchel, noticeably larger than Avas current one to her.

"Yep! Me and Jonah used that back during our adventures!" Sarah explained happily.

Ian looked around a bit nervously. "Uh, Ava, I actually got you something too. I've been saving for a couple weeks for it. Here." he took out the decently sized pink scarf from his own, smaller bag, and handed it to Ava.

"Okay!" she sat down, and fiddled with the paper bag a bit with her front paws, before opening it. Inside was of course the pink scarf. Ava pulled it out, and unraveled it.

"Do you, uh, like it?" Ian asked curiously.

"Like it? I love it!" Ava said, holding it close to her, before putting it on. "This is really nice! Thank you so much!"

He blushed a little bit. "It's not enchanted or anything, like most of them, it just looks nice. But, uh, your welcome!"

She gave him a semi awkward hug with her forepaws. "I don't care about that, it's a gift, and it looks nice! That's what matters!"

'I'm so glad she liked it. She deserves it…' Ian thought, as he broke off from the hug, her parents watching.

"Good kid, Ian. most Pokémon don't do hatchday gifts, but you did. Good on you." Jonah said, giving an approving nod.

"Thanks guys, but it's just a common courtesy. No need to make a big deal out of it.'' He stopped for a moment. "You know, I'm getting kind of hungry, and it is getting late. Would anyone object to me making dinner?" Ian asked, standing up.

"Ooh, can we do those sausages again?" Ava asked.

"I, uh, think we ran out." Ian said, quickly running to the cold storage room.

While he was in the storage room, Jonah spoke. "So Ava, what do you think of him?"

"Well… he reminds me of you, dad, quite a lot. I guess it makes sense." She let out a small laugh. "He was COMPLETELY different on the first day we met. Kind of immature, and he kept going on about it being a dream."

Sarah smiled. "Imagine if you woke up a human sweetie, you would think the same thing."

"I know. After he realized it was real, he was honestly kind of sad and somber for a couple weeks, but he's brightened up a fair bit since. He still writes in his journal daily, though. I haven't peeked… yet." Ava monologued. "Oh sorry, I didn't mean to just ramble."

"Its fine, Ava. we all do from time to time." Jonah explained.

As if on cue, Ian walked back in at that moment. "Hey, uh, I wasn't able to find much. We mostly just had old jerky, which we eat all the time."

"Oh, we actually have some other stuff, kid. Since we live over on the grass continent, we brought some fruits and berries. Here." Jonah opened up his bag, and pulled out a pouch. "We packed this thing full of rarer berries like sitrus, razz, and pinap berries. Here."

Sarah grabbed the pouch from Jonah and passed it around. "Come on Joney, you don't need to ramble!" She passed it around, and the two Eevee each took one out.

"Ooh, a Sitrus berry!" Ava exclaimed excitedly. "These are super rare!"

"Yep! Sitrus berries are one of the more valuable berries you can find. They are exceptionally good at healing people, but they haven't been domesticated yet." Sarah explained.

"Yeah. this'll be good if we get hurt on a mission." She exclaimed, stuffing it into her bag's berry pouch.

"I got… a Belue berry, I want to say?" Ian said, slightly confused.

"Oh yeah, I remember when you first woke up, you said something about blue or Belue berries, so I asked my parents to bring you one in a letter!"

"Thanks. Its, uh… not my favourite berry though. I had only said that because… well… they're good for your brain and stuff. Healthy, I mean."

"..." Ava just laughed after a moment. "You're such a dork! What is your favourite berry?"

"I liked strawberries a lot. They had a good taste, and a nice size and texture… what kind of berries here would be similar to them though?"

Jonah finally got back into the conversation, after he had finished laughing. "Don't know kid. Maybe a razz berry would suit your tastes better. But about what you said with the belue berries, that's actually an interesting side effect. I bet Chatot would like to know that…"

Sarah walked over to the window and peeked outside. "Its getting pretty late you guys."

"Hey mom, do you and dad have a place to stay the night?" Ava asked

"Wigglytuff was kind enough to provide us with a tent, so we'll stay in that tonight. Tomorrow we gotta head back. Chatot only gave us 3 days off, and today is day two." She explained.

"Yeah kiddo, we'll have to head out of here soon. But we'll still be in town tomorrow morning, and you can always send a letter. Last thing before we leave though," he eyed Ian. "don't go letting Neo and Nova know about your humanity kid. After the Bittercold cold a few years back, they became super paranoid. I would be surprised if Neo didn't already know. Just stay careful and don't tell anyone you don't trust. I made that mistake with Dusknoir… believe me." Jonah and Sarah opened the door. "See you two kids later then."

"Bye dad!"

"Bye honey!"

The door shut, and the two Eevee were alone again inside the small cabin. There was an awkward silence for a few moments before ava spoke.

"Guess that's that then?"

"Yep… too bad I couldn't keep up my lie… about berry preferences."

Ava chuckled a bit. "I'm heading to bed. Its late. I'll be over on the hay, don't be late."

"Yep." he took his journal off the shelf, and began writing.

'October 31… Halloween. I think. I missed a few entries before now. Ava's birthday, or I guess "hatchday" was today, and her parents came by. I was right, too. They were the duo from the explorers games. They mentioned chatot, and even dusknoir, as well as told us straight up they were the heroes.

'I guess my birthday is in about 2 months, but other than that, winter is setting in as well, so being up on the mountain is gonna get really cold. Thankfully, my fur coat grew out a fair bit, which is gonna help a lot.'

'That's really it. I'm out for tonight.'

As per usual, the journal was closed, and put back on the shelf in its hidden position, and he wandered over to the hay pile, and snuggled up onto the bed.

"Night Ava, and happy hatchday."

"...thanks Ian."

The two fell asleep quickly.

I'm sorry. This took FAR too long. I've been busy with a lot of school, exams and such, and haven't had much time to write.

Also, i cannot fucking believe scytherider read this on stream. I know he and vulpi stopped, and havent been caught up, but I just wanted to say thank you to them.

Lastly, i wanna say sorry for the slow chapters (in content and in quality)

I'm kind of stalling for time until certain events can happen in the world of my fic before I can bring in any real conflict. Mostly waiting on 3 certain chapters, and their respective special episodes.

Around 12 is where stuff is going to hit the fan though, and from there, i have the entire rest of the fic planned out. (i have since around chapter 3s release, actually.. hehehe…)

Anyways, I'm done ranting. Next up is another special episode featuring… well, another eeveelution. I'm sorry to those who hate super popular mons.
