With Joe's wheel chair secured on one isle, and Ford sitting just opposite him, the two ate a mid-air meal in relative silence until Ford glanced out the window and happened to catch a glance a shadow in the clouds. Blinking quickly and leaning over to see better, nearly knocking his drink over in the process, his eyes raced across the skyline before he sighed in relief after his eyes adjusted to the cloud formations.

"Something wrong, son?"

"No. Just a shadow in the clouds."

"Thought it was the MUTO?"

"For a sec, yeah."

"I see."

Ford leaned back in his chair and sighed.

"What's wrong, Ford?"

"Just stress at not being able to get in touch with Elle. The phones still weren't working back on the island or the ship before we spoke to the Doc."

"We'll be at the mainland in an hour or so, son. You'll be able to call her from there. Don't worry."

Ford nodded and Joe reached a hand across the isle. Ford took his hand and gave it a good, firm shake along with a weak smile which Joe returned.

Suddenly, the plane's lights flickered and turbulence immediately followed.

"What's happening?" Joe asked aloud.

A flight attendant soon appeared from the front curtain.

"Gentlemen. Please ensure you're strapped in. We're experiencing unexpected turbulence." She said.

Ford's eyes widened as he and Joe made eye contact. Ford unhooked his seat belt and rose to his feet.

"Sir! Please return to your seat!"

"I know what's happening! I need to speak to the pilot!"

"I can't allow that, sir. We-"

The plane rocked violently as the lights flickered again. Ford caught the flight attendant and helped her to a seat before holding himself up using the side walls and knocked on the pilot's door.

"Hey! I know what's happening to the plane! Let me in!"

A second later the co-pilot opened the door and Ford leaned in.

"Fly lower!" He ordered.

"What? Why?" The co-pilot asked.

"Just do it!" Ford barked.

The pilot lowered the plane's nose and as they began gliding lower a massive shadow appeared off to the right in the water. Looking towards it, Ford looked up and saw exactly what he'd been fearing. A massive wake in the clouds similarly to if a speedboat was tearing through the water.

"Bank left and get us the hell away from that thing!" He ordered.

"Sir! If we stray off course, we may run out of fuel before we land!" The pilot objected.

"We have no choice! That thing out there is emitting an EMP field around itself! If we stay on course, this plane's going down for sure! We need to clear the field! So bank left!" Ford yelled.

The plane's lights flickered more violently as the MUTO's roar cracked the skies and it broke through the clouds in full view of the pilot of and co-pilot.

"What in God's name?" The co-pilot asked as he crossed himself.

"Stop staring and bank the fuck left!" Ford demanded as he slammed a hand into the wall.

"All right! All right!" The pilot yelled back as he veered the plane left.

As Ford's eyes trailed to the MUTO he saw its head turn in their direction.

"Oh shit." He whispered.

The MUTO's mouth opened and another croaking roar emanated from it. The plane's electronics began going haywire and the wheel suddenly became stiff.

"What's happening!?" The pilot cried.

"It's the EMP field! Whenever it roars the field must get stronger! Keep the plane in the air and bank harder to the left!" Ford yelled.

"I can't turn the wheel!" The pilot replied.

The plan was already in a banking motion with a slight dip of the left wing. Left uncorrected, Ford saw only one destination for the plane's nose. And as blue as that destination was, he had no intention of meeting it.

Ford grabbed the wheel and helped the pilot strong arm it into a harder bank first turning almost seventy degrees away from the MUTO's position before helping him level it out. After ten worrisome seconds or so, the plane's electronics returned to normal and the wheel regained its full range of motion.

"What the fuck…" The pilot whispered.

"That, buddy, was a Titan. A dangerous one at that." Ford replied through a series of short breaths.

"Hey Martin. How far away from that thing were we, by chance?" The pilot asked.

"Uh… I dunno. A mile or two?" Martin responded.

"Sweet Jesus." The pilot whispered.

"Just find us a new airport and bring us in. The further we are from that thing, the better." Ford interjected before returning to his seat next to his father.

"Everything okay, Ford?"

"Yeah. Close call with the MUTO, but I think we're okay. We're going to have to touch down somewhere other than San Francisco though. That thing was flying an almost perfectly straight line along our course."

"Oh my God… I don't suppose you can tell the pilot to step on it?"

"He was already unhappy with a change in course and said we might not have enough fuel if we turn too far. I think it's best to trust him and the co-pilot to get us on the ground safely at this point."

Joe nodded.

"I hope the others are doing all right."

Back on the USS Saratoga, Serizawa stood up on the deck observing Godzilla's spines about a mile ahead out in the open waters slicing through the surf. Doctor Graham stood beside him, as well as several other crewmen and MONARCH scientists who'd since joined the crew following the incident.

"Doctor Serizawa?" Came a male voice behind him.

Serizawa turned and saw a man of African American descent approaching with the MONARCH symbol on his coat.

"My name's Collin Farow. Nice to meet you, sir." He said as the two men shook hands.

"What can we do for you mister Farow?" Doctor Graham asked.

"I wanted to brief you on something. MONARCH's jurisdiction over the Titans has been pulled, and it's now under military operations. So, uh…" He looked around and leaned in to whisper, "unfortunately that means we're now under the Admiral's command."

Serizawa nodded knowingly.

"Is there anything you need, Doctor? I'm under orders from HQ to get you anything you need."

Serizawa looked back towards Godzilla's spines as they gracefully slid through the water with a gentle left-right undulating pattern.

"I'm fine." He replied quietly.

"Very well. Doctor Graham? Anything you need?"

"No, thank you mister Farow." She replied.

"All right. I'm going to return to HQ. But if you need to get ahold of me, here's my card." He said as he handed a card to Doctor Graham.

Not long after Collin's departure, Doctor Graham walked a bit closer to Seirzawa and tapped his elbow.

"Sensei. You've been watching Godzilla for hours. Aren't you hungry?"

Serizawa shook his head.

"I see."

She looked out at Godzilla.

"What do you think is going through his head, Sensei?"

"I believe he's determined to catch the MUTO."

"Well, yes. But I mean do you think he has any worries or fears?"

Serizawa turned to meet her gaze.

"Why do you ask?"

"I don't know. It's just, I guess it would be somewhat comforting to know that Godzilla has fears too. If that makes sense. If he's at all nervous about taking on the MUTO again given its ability to use the EMP and shut down his most powerful weapon. And if he loses, then…"

"He won't lose." Serizawa replied firmly as he looked back out to Godzilla.

"He was the Alpha Predator of his time. And he has yet to relinquish that title. Even if the MUTO is dangerous, he will find a way to win." He continued.

Doctor Graham took a deep breath with a nod.

"I hope you're right, Sensei."

"I doubt Gojira has any doubts about what he needs to do, Vivian. Trust in him. He will defeat the MUTO."

Doctor Graham nodded again. But as they both watched Godzilla they noticed something odd happening in the water ahead of his spines.

Without warning, Godzilla's spines sank sharply into the sea before his tail swung up into the air from the water and then slid down into the depths. Warning alarms were blaring as the PA announced Godzilla had turned around and was heading for the ship. And a moment later Godzilla rose up in front of the USS Saratoga unleashing a low frequency growl from his throat which caused the water around his body to ripple violently and the deck of the ship to resonate with it.

"Sensei!"

Serizawa was unmoved. He stood tall and stared directly up at Godzilla who was now leaning down. Closer and closer his nose came to the edge of the Saratoga so he could get a good long look at these pesky creatures that were following him. And the noise of the PA and alarms began to get his attention as a snarl appeared on his face.

Serizawa's eyes widened and he turned to the nearest crewman.

"Shut the alarms off and kill the PA! They're disturbing him!" He yelled.

"Wait! Me? But-I don't-"

Serizawa grabbed the crewman's radio.

"Attention. Whoever's listening. This is Doctor Serizawa. Shut off the alarms and PA system! Gojira is becoming agitated by them! Shut them down immediately!"

A few long seconds passed which saw Godzilla's snarl deepen as he locked his eyes on the flashing red lights. But at last, silence. The alarms ceased and the PA crackled to nothing. Serizawa sighed in relief and looked at Godzilla who shook his head with a huff through his nose which nearly blew everyone on deck off their feet.

Godzilla leaned back and corrected his position to face the center of the vessel and peered into the window of the command tower. Everyone inside froze, not daring to risk a single movement lest they individually attract his attention. A moment later Godzilla shifted and looked back at the deck and leaned down even further so his chin nearly touched the edge of the deck. Other ships around them began slowly locking weapons onto him, but did not open fire.

Godzilla's eyes slowly scanned the faces of the puny creatures scattered about like unorganized ants until they landed on Doctor Serizawa.

Godzilla blinked and leaned in even closer. His chin gently touched the edge of the deck as he arched his neck so he could look down slightly further at this one.

Serizawa gazed back and stood up straight. And as Doctor Graham glanced between the two, she noticed something happening with Serizawa as he slowly walked towards Godzilla.

"Sensei?" She called in hushed tone.

"… Beautiful…" Serizawa whispered to himself as his eyes began welling with tears.

Godzilla's eyes remained locked on Serizawa as he advanced.

"So many pictures from my father's time. The new footage of your battle. But to see you this close…" He thought out loud as he extended a hand out towards Godzilla.

Godzilla's throat rumbled again causing the ship to vibrate. But Serizawa remained on his feet and continued walking closer as Godzilla's eyes trailed after him. In order to continue looking at this little thing, Godzilla had to arch his neck even further so his nose was nearly touching the deck.

Serizawa approached calmly. And just as his hand was about to reach Godzilla's scales the Titan's head pulled back and he huffed a breath before slowly turning around, which gently rocked the Saratoga, and resumed his steady course forward.

Doctor Graham walked over to Serizawa's side and placed a hand on his elbow.

"Are you all right, Sensei?"

Serizawa nodded and wiped his tears.

"I've never seen him so close before." He said quietly.

"It was… Frightening, Sensei. If I'm being perfectly honest."

"Perhaps. But you cannot deny how beautiful he is."

Doctor Graham smiled and nodded.

"Yes, Sensei. He is beautiful. But knowing what he can do still makes me a bit uneasy when we're this close. If he wanted to he could incinerate us all with no effort."

"Vivian." Serizawa began as he turned around to face her directly.

"You can't let such untoward fears alter your judgment. Gojira is a passive being. He will only attack if provoked or if we attack him first. When he was growling at the alarms, he was giving us all a warning that he was unhappy. If we pay attention to the signs he gives us, we can live beside him in peace."

Doctor Graham nodded and lowered her head.

"Yes, Sensei. Apologies."

"It's not me you should apologize to." He said as he stepped out of her way and gestured towards Godzilla whose spines were visible slicing the surf once more.

"Godzilla. I'm sorry. I let myself be intimidated into thinking the worst could happen. I'll try my best not to let it happen anymore."

Serizawa nodded and put a hand on her shoulder.

"Have faith, Vivian. Gojira is not an enemy of humanity. And when this battle with the MUTO is over, he will prove it by returning to the sea in peace."

"Yes, Sensei."

A muffled roar from Godzilla shook the waters and vibrated the hull of the deck. Despite this, both Doctors retained their smiles as they watched after him.
