Doctors Serizawa and Graham, seated in the back of a unique looking jet, checked their watches.
"Doctors! We're approaching the landing site!" Called the pilot over their headsets.
The vehicle began turning as a structure resembling an oil drilling platform on the ocean's surface came into view. Jet's engines suddenly turned downwards allowing the vehicle to hover over the center of the platform, and the "landing pad" suddenly released a puff of steam it split in half revealing a massive tube leading down into the depths.
The jet began its descent into the gloom as lights softly undulated to illuminate its path. Within a few minutes, the jet exited the tube and entered a massive internal landing bay with a few other jets of identical design sat idle nearby. Carefully maneuvering forward, the jet landed on its designated zone and the doctors hopped off to examine the structure.
"I don't think I'll ever get used to traveling in that thing." Doctor Graham whispered.
Serizawa smiled and nodded.
Traveling from the Pacific to the Atlantic in just over an hour was a feat of engineering most would only dream up in Scifi movies.
As for the structure they were now in… It was massive, and another amazing feat of the world's best engineers and scientific minds at work. Just this room was at least a two hundred meter by two hundred meter square shape. Other rooms and paths connected to it from all four directions leading to various regions of the base. And Doctor Serizawa led Doctor Graham towards the West end where they entered a hallway leading to an elevator. Once inside, Serizawa pushed the button for the 4th Level.
"Sensei. The Titans can't be kept hidden from the world anymore. And now that they've been revealed, what about this place?" She asked.
"This Castle Bravo facility began construction in the late fifties under the utmost secrecy. The only ones who know about it are the President, and certain key leaders in the Department of Defense. So long as that remains true, this facility will remain secure."
"But what if someone in MONARCH talks?"
"They won't. Every member of MONARCH signed a contract serving as a lifetime gag order. If they violate it, they'll be sent to prison for life with no bail or parole. And all official reports will be moderated by MONARCH to attribute their talk to a mental breakdown and delusions."
"A bit harsh. But I think I understand why."
Serizawa nodded.
The elevator stopped on the 4th level, and the two doctors emerged into a branching hallway and took the straight path forward which led through a few smaller rooms before opening into a massive observation room with triple reinforced glass panes allowing them to see out into the gloom of the ocean. To either side of the glass were at least half a dozen computer stations, each one manned by a staff member monitoring either a Titan, or Godzilla specifically.
"Doctor Serizawa!" Called a middle-aged man of Japanese descent as he briskly walked over and shook his hand.
"Kyohei Yamane. It's a pleasure to finally meet your, sir."
Serizawa returned a nod of greeting and the three of them approached the glass.
"Any news?" Serizawa asked.
"Yes, sir. The male MUTO made landfall almost an hour ago. But the Female is still at the edge of Nevada heading towards him."
"Good. So we have time?" Serizawa asked.
"A little bit, yes. The male seems to be waiting for her in San Francisco for some reason or another."
"Perhaps it's something to do with the moisture in the air?" Doctor Graham offered.
Serizawa's eyebrows furrowed.
"Sensei?" She asked.
"Show me the Male MUTO!" Serizawa called.
"Yes, Doctor!" Came a reply from one of the staff.
A large monitor descended from the ceiling taking up nearly the entire area of the glass behind it, and showed the Male MUTO's position at the edge of San Francisco.
"Zoom in, please." He called.
The image zoomed in closer, and tiny movements were visible as the Male moved about the edge of San Francisco Bay.
"What's it doing?" Doctor Graham asked.
Serizawa's eyes opened wide.
"Oh no…" He whispered.
In San Francisco, the Male MUTO was engaged with United States Military forces spread out across the area and opening fire on it. Nearby was a large apparatus which a large bulk of the forces were gathered around.
In the bay were half a dozen US Navy ships all with guns and missiles locked onto the creature. But due to the danger close proximity with their ground forces, they were hesitant to launch an attack.
The Male MUTO continued scanning the tiny creatures and shielding its head and face from the incoming hail of bullets. It was almost as if these puny pests were directly aiming for its sensitive eyes. But it wouldn't last. Whatever they were guarding was far too alluring to ignore. And it would not be stopped by this pesky display of futile aggression.
The Male's left arm came up and swiped across the line of soldiers directly in front of it. The blow took a large chunk out of the ground as well as throwing them all high into and through the air for hundreds of feet before being introduced to a short and sudden early grave by the time they came down. The others began spreading out to cover more ground which was more than a little irritating. But as it was about to attack again it felt something pricking its back.
Turning around, the Male's shoulder and then head were bombarded by a relentless stream of those flashy little things flying through the air at it from one of the ships. Bringing its wing up to shield itself, it turned a bit more to get a good look at what was happening. Some kind of big tube on the front of the ship was releasing a never ending stream of these annoying needles. And even though it didn't exactly hurt, it didn't tickle either. And-
The MUTO let out a painful roar as the stream managed to adjust just enough to be directed straight into its left eye which caused the Male to recoil back and turn away to further shield itself. And of course the little pests on the ground hadn't given up either and were trying to finish what the ship started. The Male growled deeply and opened its wings wide before slamming them down towards the ground and launching itself into the air before disappearing into the clouds.
All the bullets stopped, and an eerie silence permeated the area. The only thing that broke it was the faint screech of the Male high up in the sky beyond their field of vision as the rain began pouring down onto them.
Meanwhile, on board one of the vessels to the rear…
"Captain! We're picking up something on sonar from the ocean."
"Probably just a big school of fish or a whale or something. Focus on the flying thing!"
"But sir, it's-"
"I said focus on the flying thing!"
"… Huge…"
The sailor looked at the sonar blip at the edge of the screen and gulped back a lump in his throat. And one by one each ship's sonar pinged the same blip in turn as it moved closer and closer.
"… Captain?"
"What?!"
"It's several times larger than our ship, sir!"
"Well it-… Wait, what?!"
The Male MUTO suddenly broke through the clouds, jaws agape, and slammed down into the first ship which had sent a hail of bullets into its face. The ship was very neatly bisected and sank in a matter of moments as the MUTO reappeared from the water and shook itself off. The gunfire on the shore resumed, but this time the Male was distracted from them by the sounds of the ships blaring their horns and trying to turn and move out of the way of a large mound of water approaching from the open ocean.
The mound was flashing blue, and two small blue dots at the front just beneath the surface flared before Godzilla's head broke the surface as he released a roar which shook the entire bay. The MUTO roared back in challenge, and Godzilla's neck and shoulders rose up out of the water just has be passed under the Golden Gate Bridge. Standing to full height, his spines just missing the bridge by a matter of a few feet, he flared his arms out to the sides and roared again.
The MUTO lifted its right claw, and its eyes and body began flashing before it slammed its claw down into the ground releasing an EMP. The blast struck Godzilla square on and the lights in his eyes and along his back flickered violently before going out. Godzilla himself seemed to cough several times before snarling and charging the MUTO.
With a lift and flap of its wings, the Male was airborne and flew around Godzilla who slowed to a stop just before reaching the shore.
Tracking it as it turned, Godzilla's eyes remained locked on it as it flew in a circle like a vulture circling a carcass before the feast. Godzilla growled, his throat vibrating and the waters churning beneath his feet. And the Male croaked back at him before disappearing into the skyscraper laden heart of the city.
Godzilla roared in frustration while stomping his foot and slamming his tail into the water, completely oblivious to the gunfire being sent into his legs by the ground forces. Marching into the city proper, Godzilla paused just short of the skyscrapers as he realized he was too wide to fit through most of them. He heard the croaking cackle of the Male from within and snarled. Looking again at the buildings, he huffed and bulldozed his way through a pair of them and into a wider space in which he could maneuver more easily.
"Sir, what do we do?!" A sailor asked the Captain.
"We finish the job! Contact the ground forces and tell them to get that nuke armed already! We've got to lure them out to sea so we can blast them to Kingdom Come."
"Yessir!"
And so the call was made...
