The cab screeched to a halt, and Ford helped Joe out of the car and into his wheel chair before tipping the cab and moving towards the Military control site just outside San Francisco. As they arrived, they were stopped by security. Following a relay of information from Ford about their connection to Serizawa, and following a call to said scientist, they were permitted limited entry to speak to Admiral Stenz who had also arrived not long ago.

"Admiral. Two men are here to see you. They say they know Doctor Serizawa."

Admiral Stenz sighed but nodded, and Ford and Joe approached.

"Gentlemen? Admiral William Stenz."

Ford saluted.

"Admiral. Lieutenant Ford Brody, US Navy. This is my dad, Joe Brody."

Joe gave a wave.

"Dad was one of the nuclear engineers in Janjira fifteen years ago when the plant went down because of the MUTO."

"Is that right?" Admiral Stenz asked.

Joe nodded.

"That's right. I need to ask you something Admiral."

"And what's that, mister Brody?"

"Are you planning to use nuclear force against the MUTO's?"

"Not just them, mister Brody. But Godzilla as well."

Both Ford and Joe cringed.

"Something the matter, gentlemen?"

Joe nodded rather vigorously.

"Admiral, with all due respect you need to recall any orders to drop a nuke anywhere near these creatures." Joe said.

"Excuse me, mister Brody?"

"You heard me, Admiral. Again, with all due respect, you can't drop a nuke on something you don't understand."

"We understand that these creatures are immune to all other forms of weaponry. The nukes are the only option we have left."

"That doesn't make it right. And it's not going to be any more effective, Admiral." Joe continued.

The Admiral rolled his eyes.

"You are friends with Serizawa." He sighed.

"Admiral. Please excuse my impertinence, sir. But these creatures feed on radiation. If you drop a nuke anywhere near them it's like opening an all-you-can eat buffet." Ford insisted.

"And how do you know that, Lieutenant?"

"Because-" Ford began.

Joe slammed his fist into the arm of his wheelchair.

"Because my wife was a casualty of the Janjira Power Plant incident fifteen years ago. She was one of the first to lay eyes on it before being trapped in the bowels of the factory because of the damage it caused. And I had to watch as she was sealed behind the bulkhead doors and left to die!" He screamed.

The Admiral was caught off guard, as was Ford. But Joe's steely gaze remained locked on the Admiral, eyes welling with tears.

"I don't give a damn about your rank, Admiral. Nobody will disrespect the memory of my wife and what Ford and I had to endure for all these years after her death. I know what I saw. I know what you've seen. And I'm a damn Nuclear Engineer. If you seriously think you know more about how radiation works than I do, or how best to deal with creatures that consume radiation for food and power, you're welcome to give me an educational lecture about it… I'll wait."

Joe leaned back in his wheel chair, lips tight and jaw clenched.

Admiral Stenz was speechless. But Ford, meanwhile, almost teared up himself as he nodded and took a deep breath.

Well said, dad. He thought.

"Admiral, should I remove them?" Asked another soldier.

Ford took a protective step closer to Joe's wheel chair.

"No, no… That will be all right." Stenz said, waving him off.

After adjusting his hat and letting out a breath, the Admiral nodded.

"All right, mister Brody. I'll listen to what you have to say. But if I'm not convinced that what you suggest is either the safest or most practical method to dealing with these things, I'm going to have to ask you both to leave. Is that understood?"

Joe smirked with a short nod in response.

"All right, Admiral. This is how these creatures work to the best of my understanding. Godzilla literally absorbs radiation from his environment. It's a passive feeding mechanism. The MUTOs, by contrast, physically consume radioactive materials. So if you set off the nuke, anything that's irradiated by it they'll be able to consume just like they did that Russian submarine during the Hawaii debacle."

"What about the blast itself? Even if it lets off radiation, the heat and blast force should be more than enough to obliterate them, right?" Stenz asked.

"For the MUTOs, I can't say. But for Godzilla, it's not going to work. If Castle Bravo's fifteen Megatons didn't kill him, whatever you're using now won't do the job either."

The Admiral took a deep breath.

"So even if the MUTOs die from the blast, we still have to deal with Godzilla. That about right?"

Joe nodded.

"So how do we deal with him?"

Joe shook his head.

"As far as we can piece together, and I'm talking about my son and I, Godzilla's only here for the MUTOs. If they die, he'll return to the ocean."

"And how do we know that?"

"Because this is the first time he's come to the surface since the Castle Bravo incident."

"How do we know that'll stick?"

"Because Godzilla needs radiation for fuel and food just like any other living creature on this planet. He's going to stay where the food is more plentiful. And the most radioactive places on Earth are down at the ocean's floor, or perhaps even deeper than that."

Stenz raised an eyebrow.

"Deeper, mister Brody?"

"I'm sure Serizawa must have mentioned something to you about Godzilla's habits, right? Somewhere he goes and sits idle?"

Stenz was about to shake his head until he remembered his conversation with Serizawa on the USS Saratoga.

"Every time we've tried to track Gojira in the past, he disappears after reaching a certain point in the Mariana Trench. If he were just resting there, we would still see him on thermal satellite imagery. And our deep-water audio recording devices stop picking up his vocalizations. It's as if he just disappears."

Stenz turned slowly and looked at the table nearby which had a world map spread across its surface.

"… He may have had something to say, yes." Stenz whispered.

"Then there's more proof for you. If Godzilla had some kind of beef with humanity, believe me we'd know about it." Joe urged.

"When it comes to the MUTOs, I might have something you can use too." Ford added.

The Admiral turned back to them.

"What do you have, Lieutenant?"

"When the MUTO fought Godzilla in Hawaii, it got tired pretty quickly. Being as small and fast as it is, it must need to metabolize a lot of energy to maintain its stamina. That, or it needs to take frequent rests."

"And how does that help us, Lieutenant?"

"Wait for Godzilla to tire it out and then hit it with everything you've got that's not a nuke. It'll probably retreat somewhere high like it did the mountain in Hawaii. If you can knock it down, Godzilla can finish it off."

Joe smiled and gave a nod.

"I'm impressed, Ford. Where'd you pick this kind of info up from?" He asked.

"Elle's a Nurse, remember? And she's into healthy eating so she's studied a lot about nutrition and the like."

"So let me get this straight, gentlemen."

Both Brody's faced the Admiral.

"You want me to do what Serizawa asked of me which is to basically let Godzilla handle it… Is that about right?"

After sharing a glance, both Ford and Joe nodded.

"Godzilla could probably use some help, though. Especially since there's two to worry about. So maybe your forces can distract or lead whichever one he's not fighting over to him once he's killed the first?" Joe offered.

Stenz pursed his lips and took a breath.

"Captain."

"Yes, sir?"

"Get me connected to the ground forces."

"Yes, sir!"

The Captain jogged away, and Admiral Stenz turned to face the Brody's.

"I hope you're right gentlemen. I really do. Because if you're wrong about Godzilla and he turns on us, we'll have no choice but to turn to the nuke even if you say it's a buffet. At least we can hope the heat and force of the blast does something."

"Sir, ground forces." The Captain said as he returned with a fresh radio.

"Attention all ground forces. This is Admiral William Stenz. I hereby order a halt to the operation. Get that nuke aboard one of our ships and get it out into the open ocean until further orders."

The radio crackled before a positive response came through, and the Admiral handed it back to the Captain.

As the ground forces began forming up to get the nuke loaded onto a ship, they felt a gust of wind hit them.

"What was that?"

"I don't know. Let's just get the nuke on board."

The men hoisted the nuke up onto their shoulders and started up the ramp onto the deck of the ship, but were stopped when another gust of wind, this time stronger, nearly toppled them off the ramp into the water.

"Jesus! What was that?!"

A horrible screen from above caught their attention. Too late they looked up into the gaping maw of the Male MUTO as he dove down onto them and bit into the nuclear device. Tearing the warhead from the container, he leaped into the air and flew away as the faint sound of Godzilla's furious cry from the heart of the city proper echoed through the skies.

"What the hell just happened?!"

"Someone call the Admiral!"

Frantic communications filled the airways, and both Ford and Joe looked out at the scene as it unfolded with slack jaws and eyes filled with dread.

"… God help us all." Joe whispered.
