Two hours after the battle, Illidan has destroyed the remaining outposts on the way to Silvermoon with the help of a small undead army that Naxxramas dropped off to aid the demon hunter. The army that assaulted the demon's base at the borders of Quel'thalas have been busy replenishing their ranks. It took a lot of skilled necromancers in order to reanimate multiple corpses into frost wyrms, abominations and flesh golems while also raising any unused corpse into skeleton warriors. The army with Illidan that destroyed the outposts have since held their ground up until the first group could finish their preparations

In the meantime, Anub'arak and his nerubians have tunneled their way underground, being careful to avoid any potential traps that would alert the Legion to their presence. The Legion's defensive structures were mostly erected in Silvermoon's outskirts and not near the Sunwell isle itself. This meant that the generators were deeper into demon territory and chances are, Anub'arak and the rest of the undead nerubians won't make it out alive. They took this chance knowing that this would severely cripple the Legion's hold on Azeroth

From what they have learned, the Legion only had ten defensive towers with each capable of draining the energies of anything that isn't a demon, even the Scourge, as they can easily be reconfigured on what to target. These energy draining towers were powered by five generators located in different areas around Silvermoon

While the first undead army was marching towards Silvermoon, Anub'arak sprung his attack which caught the Legion off guard. The demons were barely able to defend themselves before they were killed while the first generator was destroyed with the nerubians not suffering significant damage due to the surprise. As such, it didn't take long for the generator to be destroyed, which disabled two of them. The nerubians didn't know if the main army are close but it really didn't matter as the only goal was to disable the towers and the Legion won't be able to finish repairs in time. The result from the surprise attack have caused large groups of demons to gather at the other generators, which were far enough from each other to ensure that no single sneak attack would take them all out. This worked as the nerubians were slowly getting overwhelmed

"Enough. Don't bother prolonging the battle. Just head straight to the next generators." Anub'arak said while using his spiked carapace to defend his backside from any attacks. "Ignore the demons and focus on the objectives." he ordered before slamming his claws into the ground, causing spikes to protrude and killing many demons while those that didn't die were trapped by the spiked protrusions

"Move out." another crypt lord said before unleashing a swarm of locusts which greatly bugged the demons and distracted them, allowing the nerubians to rush out

On the way to the next generators, they reached a crossroad with each leading to a different area. One would lead deeper into Silvermoon where the most heavily defended generator was while the other lead to the eastern side, where the final three were held

"The two of you." Anub'arak said while pointing at two other crypt lords. "We'll tunnel our way through towards the heart of Silvermoon. The rest of you attack the final three." he ordered and the nerubians quickly obeyed

As Anub'arak were near the generator, they were forced out of the ground by none other than Mephistroth. The three crypt lords were thrown out of the ground and slammed into a wall before one of the towers started to drain their energies

"You undead have gotten on my last nerve. You dare disobey the Legion? We are the ones that created you." Mephistroth raged before grabbing one of the crypt lords by the neck and slamming it into the wall, destroying it. "Now, tell me who is this new demon you have been working with?" he demanded to know from the crypt lord he just threw

Anub'arak and the other crypt lord tried to use this opportunity to rush to the generator, despite the fact that their energies were slowly being drained, since the dreadlord was distracted but they were stopped when two fel lords jumped down and standed in their way. Much to their surprise, five more undead nerubian warriors suddenly came out of the ground and attacked the fel lords however, they were quickly targetted by the nearby tower and started draining their energies. Two of them were quickly killed by the fel lords as more demons surrounded them all. Anub'arak and the other crypt lord barely managed to reach the generator before the other crypt lord and nerubians were killed by the fel lords

"What now, insect? Not even your Lich King will save you from us." the fel lord mocked as Anub'arak barely leaned against the generator, close to death. "Last words?" the fel lord mocked once more but the crypt lord merely stared at his attacker as he could barely move thanks to nearly all of his energies was sapped

Mephistroth, in the meantime, was busy slowly ripping apart the crypt lord to vent his frustration. The crypt lord yelled in pain but the dreadlord kept hitting him with lightning bolts while tearing off its limbs. "I should have melted your precious Lich King's prison myself and damn the consequences." he raged but his attention was taken when he heard a fel lord mock the nerubians. The dreadlord got even more furious as the fel lord was about to swing his blade at the helpless nerubian, who was barely leaning on the generator. "You worthless fool. Don't..." but he was too late. The fel lord swung his blade, killing Anub'arak but at the same time shattering a huge part off the generator and disabling it

The fel lord realized his mistake only when the generator shattered. His face almost went completely pale when he realized that he was tricked so badly. "You fool." a voice yelled. The fel lord turned around and was instantly killed by Mephistroth with a lightning bolt. The dreadlord then killed three more demons out of frustration. "Why the hell did you just stand there?" he yelled before grabbing a succubus and throwing her away. "Prepare for an attack. The undead will be here any time soon. Guard the remaining generators." he ordered and his minions all went to carry out the dreadlord's orders

"Mephistroth." a voice said. The dreadlord, who was furious, was suddenly afraid as a fel hologram appeared behind him. "Status report."

"Pardon, Lord Kil'jaeden. The undead have breached our southern defenses and are marching here. They will be here any time. They are aided by an unknown demon." Mephistroth said with the fear in his voice being evident. "There is a traitor among us." he said, hoping to pin the blame on someone else

Kil'jaeden merely stared at his underling, neglecting to inform him of who the demon aiding the undead is. The demon lord was somewhat furious at Ner'zhul but this did not come as unexpected. Ever since he heard about Archimonde's defeat, Kil'jaeden had already expected this would happen for a few reasons, the main one being there is no way Illidan Stormrage would not explore the eastern kingdoms. The only thing that the eredar didn't know was how Illidan was aware of the Legion's defenses, or specifically, how the Scourge informed him. Rather than get furious himself, Kil'jaeden decided to turn this situation into the Legion's advantage in the long term. "If all is lost, retreat back to Argus." he said, not even bothering to send more reinforcements. After Mephistroth gave his affirmative, Kil'jaeden considered what events would happen next and thus decided to pull back the rest of the dreadlords. In only a few minutes, Varimathras, Detheroc and Mal'ganis all returned to Argus

"Yes, my lord." Mephistroth said as Kil'jaeden disappeared. In his state of fear and fury, he did not notice that Kil'jaeden wasn't bothered by what Illidan is doing. When the eredar disappeared, Mephistroth quickly went towards the highest point in the city but he still could not see that battles outside their stronghold. He also noticed more demons entering from the demon gate in the city. Mephistroth thought these were from the Twisting Nether but it was actually from the other kingdoms they have destroyed

At that same time, the other nerubians have reached the entrance to the area where a generator was but most of them were killed. This generator was heavily defended and even though the nerubians had a decent number, they were greatly outnumbered. Fel guards, bats, succubus and doom guards all joined the slaughter. The nerubians fought hard but the towers were draining their energies at a rapid rate, making it a losing battle. In only a matter of few minutes, the nerubians were all killed however, one of the crypt lords managed to cause spiked protrusions to come out of the ground, some of which hit the generator, damaging it. It wasn't enough to disable the towers but it did weaken it by greatly reducing the area it can cover

Silvermoon outskirts

The main undead army have been in the clear over the last half hour. The demons have not even bothered to try and regain their lost territory, much to their surprise considering the Legion is usually aggressive

A death knight approached the demon hunter who was just sitting down on a downed tree. "Illidan, the nerubians were not able to destroy all the generators. Out of the five generators, they only destroyed two and damaged the third." he said

"I see." Illidan said and made a thoughtful face. "Have Kel'thuzad see if he can cover us with Naxxramas." and he got up. "Let's do this." the demon hunter said and walked back towards the rest of the army with the death knight following him

"So, when do we attack?" Rivendare asked when Illidan came

"Now. Let's end this." the demon hunter replied. The death knight nodded at this and motioned for all of them to head towards right outside the gates of Silvermoon

The undead army stared down the army of the creator of their king, both sides ready to end this once and for all. "Bring up the Meat Wagons." Rivendare ordered and in a matter of seconds, meat wagons began raining down corpses on the gates with some aiming at the disabled towers. After a few dozen hits, the towers came crashing down. "For the Scourge!" Rivendare yelled and charged, the undead following him. While they were all charging, the Legion's siege weapons returned fire, setting the ground on fire but the undead just ignored it and continued

"Drak'thul." Illidan said and got the attention of the warlock. "Get on that hill over there and provide us cover." he ordered while pointing at said hill. The warlock nodded and did just that while the demon hunter took to the skies and began raining down eye beams

Fel bats and nether dragons swarmed the skies and engaged the undead flyers. Naxxramas soon appeared over the trees and provided support by raining down ice magics from above while deploying the remaining flyers that were still on board. When the necropolis flew over the city, it was quickly attacked by both siege weapons and the all six of the remaining towers, suffering heavy damage as a result. However, even though it was taking hits, the necropolis was still using its own weapons to rain down ice shards, freezing entire portions of the battle field solid

"Lord Kel'thuzad, we are taking heavy damage. We won't be able to remain airborne for long." one of the remaining death knights in the necropolis said

Kel'thuzad considered his options and looked at the city below. The attack from the ground while the Legion's flyers attacked the necropolis. A few fel bats even managed to breach inside. The death knights quickly engaged them with Kel'thuzad completely freezing some and slowing their movements enough for the death knights to kill them without much effort. Knowing there was no point in this. "Continue deeper into Silvermoon. We'll crash Naxxramas right in the heart of their stronghold." he ordered. The effects of the towers soon began to take effect as their strengths were slowly being sapped

In the meantime, Illidan, who was flying, caught on to what Kel'thuzad was up to. 'Drak'thul, cover us with a lightning storm.' he said telepathically. In just a few seconds, the skies thundered and lightning bolts shot down, hitting both friend and foe. Taking advantage of the distraction, Illidan went invisible and managed to catch up with Naxxramas before climbing his way onto its top. The demon hunter looked around but was unable to make out where the remaining generators were even with his spectral sight. Just a few minutes of flying, the necropolis began to lose altitude, crashing right down into the largest group of demons that were firing at it. Acting quickly, Illidan blew a hole on one side of the necropolis, rendezvousing with Kel'thuzad. "Lich, what's going on?" he asked, noticing the undead were growing weaker and weaker

"I think you already know what I'm planning." Kel'thuzad answered and received a nod from the demon hunter

"Once we arrive on the ground, I'll rush out and find the nearest generator." Illidan said and the lich made a grateful nod. It didn't take long for the necropolis to crash into the ground. Illidan quickly went invisible once more and headed out while Kel'thuzad erected a shield of frost to protect them all from any falling debris

On the ground, the demon hunter quickly snuck around, ignoring the demons. He was spotted by a few spectres but he simply shot eye beams at them, killing them and allowing him to evade their sight. Illidan soon came across a generator and summoned one of his falchion blades, throwing it at the generator, causing it to explode after a few seconds. Illidan was quickly attacked by a few demons and was wounded by a few of them before he managed to summon his twin blades and killed them. The demon hunter fired another eye beam before flying up and retreating

In the meantime, Mephistroth himself entered the battle when Naxxramas crashed, easily swatting away the death knights before he was blasted with ice by Kel'thuzad. "You traitorous little wretch. I will make you beg for death when I'm done with you." he raged before using his own lightning bolts, which the lich managed to block with a shield of ice. At this point, Illidan had destroyed the generator powering the nearby towers with his falchion blade, making the battle even. More demons arrived to aid Mephistroth and were about to overwhelm Kel'thuzad when Illidan arrived and killed them all, who then proceeded to kick the dreadlord away. A small group of undead also arrived on the scene in an effort to rescue the survivors of Naxxramas and was personally led by Rivendare

"Who are you?" Mephistroth asked, glaring at the demon hunter

"No one of consequence." Illidan responded but before he could attack, Kel'thuzad had blasted the dreadlord with his ice magics. A doom guard tried to flank the demon hunter and swung down his sword but Illidan quickly side stepped before beheading the demon. He then quickly rushed towards the Legion warlocks and targetted them specifically before they can cause much havoc. They tried to use their magics against Illidan but the demon hunter near perfectly countered or blocked them due to his familiarity with them. 'Illysanna, Kor'vas, Altruis, we are already deep into Silvermoon. Ignore the flank. We need all the help we can get. Find a generator and destroy it.' he telepathically ordered

The night elves, who were still holding in the southern area of Quel'thalas, moved out to Silvermoon. It would take them at least an hour to get to the battle if they go on foot so Illysanna ordered them to get on the sky barge they were on, which was kept hidden for an event such as this

"Would this be a good idea?" Kor'vas asked with uncertainty, worried about their flanks and for good reason

Illysanna thought about this for a few moments. "Leave the army behind. We'll take a few necromancers and shades."

"If you do that then you will be more vulnerable when you attack." the lich with them pointed out

"That is true. Why don't we just travel in the sky barge while the rest travel on foot?" Altruis suggested

"Good point. Let's do it that way." Illysanna said and went in the direction of the sky barge. It took them only twenty minutes of air travel before they reached the outskirts of the city where they found Drak'thul on a hill, who appeared to be using some sort of map spell

"Drak'thul." Illysanna called out

"Illysanna? What are you doing here?" Drak'thul asked curiously

"Illidan wanted us to take out one of the generators." Kor'vas answered before looking at the battle, which seemed to be at a stalemate. The undead were able to kill and raise lots of demons but can't go further because the remaining towers would take them out. "I'm guessing this battle can go either way at this point."

"Indeed. I've been using my powers to locate the other generators. Two of them have been taken out. One of them is in the far east, a little over four miles away from here while the nearest one is about two miles to the northeast." Drak'thul answered while making a map made out of fel energies. It didn't exactly point to the city but merely showed the general direction from their current location

"What about the third one? I thought the Nerubians only destroyed two." Altruis asked, expecting the worst

"The third was only damaged but not completely destroyed." Drak'thul answered

"I see. Can you make us a portal to one of the generators?" Illysanna asked

"I can get you close but not exactly to it. That would be suicidal. It will be heavily guarded." Drak'thul pointed out

"We may be able to help with that." a feminine echoing voice said, which belonged to a group of banshees that approached them. "We can take over the minds of the lesser demons which would help us quite a bit."

"It's still a huge risk. You could die." Drak'thul argued back

Illysanna thought about this for a few seconds, knowing they were wasting time. "Hardly matters. From your map, the coast is not that far. If we get in trouble, we'll just have to jump into the water."

Drak'thul frowned at this before muttering an incantation which resulted in strange energies surrounding the three night elves. "That should help you. It's a protective spell to protect you from any potential poison the Legion might have placed in the waters. However, it won't last for more than an hour so be quick and get back to land as soon as you can." he warned before conjuring up a portal, which basically used up all his remaining energies. "Go." he urged and the night elves, banshees went through along with a few skeleton warriors and ghouls. After he closed the portal, Drak'thul collapsed from fatigue with a few skeleton warriors took him to safety

On the other side of the portal, Illysanna and the others were quickly attacked. Being forced back almost immediately due to the sheer number of demons. The banshees quickly possessed a few succubi and used their whips to wrap around some fel guards and threw them away. Many of the fel guards and other succubi weren't able to instantly tell which ones have been possessed. In that moment of distraction, the night elves were quick to take down their immediate attackers while not suffering significant injuries. The remaining banshees then possessed more fel guards and finished off their attackers. Much to their surprise, the spell that Drak'thul used on them also greatly reduced the effects of the nearby tower

"We will have to move quickly. They will catch on to us possessing them in only a few minutes." a possessed succubus said before pointing at a certain direction. "The generator is inside the building but there are still a few guards surrounding it." she said

"Don't bother coming back for us. Just jump into the water once you are done." another possessed succubus said before leaving into an incoming demon reinforcements while the necromancers raised more skeleton warriors

The three night elves quickly moved out, heading straight into the building. Warlocks quickly threw fire balls and cripple spells, slowing them down. Illysanna quickly countered this with a dispelling magic Drak'thul had taught her before. Some banshees then came to their aid and provided some anti magic spell on them before they were instantly killed by the warlocks with powerful lightning bolt. Kor'vas then quickly threw a dagger at one of the warlocks which hit him right in the eye, instantly killing him

The demons were distracted at how good she was able to aim that throw which the night elves quickly took advantage and killed them. The demon guards were able to fight back but were eventually killed due to the night elves preferring speed and agility in a fight over brute force. As Illysanna was using a fel guard's blade to destroy the generator, a shivarra was able to sneak up on her and run her through, right in the abdomen. Altruis was able to quickly react to this and threw his dagger at her, forcing her back before Kor'vas engaged and killed her. She then removed the sword from Illysanna but she collapsed from the injury

"Illysanna, hang in there." Altruis said and put pressure on the wound. He looked at Kor'vas who wasn't trying to help her and noticed she instead slammed multiple spears into the generator, making it spark and slowly destroying it

"We should move. The banshees won't be able to hold out for long." Kor'vas said and helped Altruis carry Illysanna to a window. Just when they reached the window, the demons were able to reach them with a warlock quickly sending a stream of flame their way. It scored a direct hit and they were thrown out the building, suffering burns as a result. They hit a few rocks along the way before they landed into the water. As Altruis got hurt by the flames a lot more than Kor'vas, she was the one who swam underwater and picked up the unconscious Illysanna, trying her best to keep her alive while not yet revealing themselves to the demons who were still in the building. Altruis tried to use some healing magics that the watchers used to keep Illysanna alive while underwater

After a few more minutes, they surfaced as the demons didn't bother to rain down any spells or weapons from the building, most likely due to the battles that raged in other areas. "Over there." Altruis said while pointing to a nearby islet. The two of them swam, making sure to keep the unconscious Illysanna alive. When they reached the islet, they tended to Illysanna's wound with Kor'vas using her healing powers that many sentinels know

"We're stuck here. We won't be able to do anything else from now." Kor'vas said, ignoring her own injuries due to Illysanna's more pressing one

"Agreed. We will have to wait for the outcome of the battle." Altruis said, mimicking Korvas's actions

At that same time, the undead army that was with Illysanna from the southern area of the high elven lands arrived and slowly turned the tide of the battle, which was partly aided by Kil'jaeden pulling back the Legion's forces from the other kingdoms. Illidan has also managed to sneak past many demons and destroyed the final generator, the one that the Nerubians left damaged, completely making the battle an even fight. During the battle, a doom guard managed to slash him across his back. Illidan managed to survive this and killed his attacker before retreating as the generator was already destroyed

Near Naxxramas' crash site, Mephistroth has been fighting Kel'thuzad and Rivendare. The death knight was easily taken out of the battle. This left the dreadlord and the lich to fight one on one as they both used their respective magical powers to get rid of each other's armies. Mephistroth held the advantage in this battle due to Kel'thuzad, and liches in general, are not that proficient in direct combat. Kel'thuzad was quickly forced on the defensive as Mephistroth took full advantage of this fact and forced the battle up close

Mephistroth expected an extremely easy battle but was surprised due to how creative the lich was. Kel'thuzad was quickly conjuring shields made out of frost to deflect any attacks by the dreadlord and ensuring that if Mephistroth would try to hide in the shadows, the ice will freeze him in place. The dreadlord realized this and instead used his carrion swarms to distract the lich. Kel'thuzad responded by freezing the swarm before quickly erecting a frost shield to block incoming hits. Much to the dreadlord's surprise, Kel'thuzad summoned spears made out of ice and used it as a melee weapon. He wasn't proficient in that style of fighting but was able to wound the dreadlord purely by catching Mephistroth by surprise

The dreadlord then hid in the shadows, which the lich quickly froze the immediate area. This turned out to be a distraction as Mephistroth used this chance to ignite the ground in flames, melting the ice and forcing the lich back. The dreadlord then fired off a powerful lightning bolt, which was a finger of death, which blew off a part of Kel'thuzad's ribs, sending him reeling. Before Mephistroth can go for the killing blow, he suddenly felt something was horribly wrong. Instinctively, he erected a shield around himself right as a powerful beam of fel energy was heading his way, which the shield blocked. Mephistroth turned to face his attacker and saw the demon from earlier. He wanted to attack the demon hunter but was pierced by an ice spear. Realizing he was outmatched, Mephistroth teleported away. Illidan and Kel'thuzad wondered where he went and instinctively looked towards the Sunwell Isle, which was right across the nearby river. When Mephistroth retreated, all the other surviving demons followed suit

Illidan wanted to fly after him but was stopped by a badly injured Kel'thuzad. "What?" he asked as he wanted to finish the dreadlord off and end this but also partly so he could kill another dreadlord, which he had somewhat enjoyed since his battle with Tichondrius

"There is no doubt that the Legion have prepared traps on the Sunwell Isle itself. It would be folly to chase after him with just the two of us especially since we are not in the best of states." Kel'thuzad pointed out. "If he is retreating then that means that the Legion has pulled out of this world."

"That is true. The only question is, what is Kil'jaeden up to." Illidan wondered aloud

Mephistroth returned to the Sunwell and summoned a fel hologram of Kil'jaeden. "Pardon, Lord Kil'jaeden, but where is the rest of our forces?" he demanded to know as he knew they had more pit lords stationed at other strongholds

"I pulled them all back." Kil'jaeden answered, much to the dreadlord's surprise. "Now, if the battle is lost, retreat back to Argus."

"We would just let the Scourge get loose and take control of this world?" Mephistroth asked in confusion

"For now, yes. Now, get back to Argus." the Deceiver ordered before fading away. Knowing he won't get anymore answers, Mephistroth obeyed and turned the corrupted Sunwell into a portal before passing through

A few things to note, a couple things I forgot to mention in the previous chapter. The part of the portals destroying a world if too many are opened, that was based off what happened to Draenor. If I recall correctly, Ner'zhul opened multiple gateways and shattered the world. That is what I based that assumption on. The other thing is the names of Illysanna's compatriots when she travelled to the broken isles. Those three were the demon hunters that Illidan brought to Outland in the canon. I decided to kill them off because I legit have no idea when Illidan found the time to train other demon hunters. Their last names are also made up, not official, including Altruis'. Lastly, I destroyed the other kingdoms. As I said, I don't know that much about the minor details and since I'm lazy, I decided to simply get rid of them. Yes, that includes Varian

With that out of the way, this chapter was inspired by the final mission in TFT, the assault on Magtheridon's fortress but instead of destroying the generators smoothly, this one isn't. In fact, it was a failure

In this chapter, I was actually planning on explaining where the Blackrock Orcs are but when I looked at the number of words, no, so that means that the next chapter will reveal where they have been during this whole battle

That's about it for now
