"Love is the magician that pulls man out of his own hat."

– Ben Hecht

Erin pulled into the parking lot of the therapist's office. She took a cleansing breath, clenching the steering wheel in a white knuckled grip. Summer rain pelted against the windshield, competing with the hammering in her chest.

Against her better judgement, she allowed Peter to set her up with Dr. Shepard. The wife of Peter's business partner and she was fully vetted and approved by The Bureau. That didn't make it easier to walk into the office. Erin checked her watch, she was fifteen minutes early. Her phone buzzed in her pocket, the first few strains of 'It Had to Be You,' emanated from the phone as she swiped the screen to accept the call.

"Hi, Honey. Have you landed?"

"About 10 minutes ago," Dave glanced out the window of the town car as the car rolled away from Newark International Airport. Rain drops rolled depressingly down the glass.

"Did you make it?" Worry filled Dave's tone, no matter how he tried to hide it.

"I'm here…" she sighed, rubbing her forehead with the back of her hand. "I'm parked."

"Waiting for the rain to stop?" He was giving her an out.

"Yeah," the rain in question fell harder against the roof of the car. "We can go with that."

"I wish I could have gone with you-" Leave it to the HBIC to mess with his tour schedule at the last minute.

"It's not your fault," his agent broke up and extended his book tour. Instead of being gone for a week, he was travelling on weekends. "Did you book your room?" She knew the answer already.

"You're stalling," he checked his watch from the backseat. "Anyway, I don't plan to sleep in Cherry Hill, New Jersey." He would take the latest flight possible if necessary, "I've been ready to go home since I got on the plane."

"You're staying on your tour." She said, leaving no room for his argument. "Go to your room and try to make the best of it." She demanded, checking her watch. "Besides, you enjoy the crowds and the attention…why not embrace it now?"

"You're saying I'm making the choice to be miserable."

"Those are your words, not mine, Rossi, not mine." She took off her seatbelt and picked up her purse from the passenger seat. "I should go in." The sooner she started the session, the quicker she could leave. "I want to hear about your day-"

"I'll call you tonight," he promised. "What are your plans after this?"

"I have an appointment with Dr. Leigh, for Carlo's growth scan-"

"Dammit," he hissed, with a frustrated gleam in his eye. "I forgot about that-"

"That's alright," she wanted to soothe him and didn't know how. "You need to be there,"

"I need to renegotiate my contract," he countered.

"You're not missing anything-"

"It feels like it," he grumbled.

"You'll be here for the big things," she reminded him. "Don't worry. I love you," she added, without thinking.

She could hear the sudden smile in his voice. "I love you too."

She was just about to hang up.

"Hey?" He said quietly, almost embarrassed.

"What is it?"

"Can you send me a picture of the ultrasound?"

"Of course," she nodded, with a soft smile on her face. She hung up the phone and stepped out of the car, into the rain.
