The DigiDestined looked on as their Digimon destroyed the Control Spires in the large area before them. One by one, they either disintegrated or tumbled to the ground landing with a solid 'thump'.
"We've still got a long way to go…" Kagome muttered worriedly holding Kapurimon in her arms.
The~Ninth~Child
"Are you sure doing this is a good idea?" Ken asked Kagome as they stood off to the side from the rest of the group.
"Ken," the raven-haired girl said gently, "They're your friends, and this'll be just the thing that could bring you all closer."
"But why won't you come then?" the navy-haired boy looked as though he were begging Kagome.
"First, because I have things that I need to help out with," the raven-haired girl said, her smile dropping a bit, "And second would be because you need to face them yourself. Clinging to me like a safety net won't help, you know."
"I guess…"the navy-haired preteen grudgingly admitted. He knew he was using Kagome as a sort of shield, but he didn't think she'd noticed. "Do you really think they'd even want to come?"
"They will," Wormmon told him soothingly, "Don't worry."
Kagome and Wormmon, Kudamon around Kagome's shoulders and Kapurimon in her arms, watched as Ken went up to the group, successfully inviting them to his Christmas party with Davis and T.K's help. They smiled when Ken worked up the courage to personally invite Cody to his party.
"You're going to help Sora again, aren't you?" Kudamon asked softly.
Kagome nodded with a sad smile. "She told me that she'll be meeting up with Matt before the concert and she wants to give him some cookies as a present and asked for some help in making them."
"MeiMei? Are you okay?" Kapurimon asked, golden eyes wide in curiosity.
"I'll be fine," Kagome nuzzled the little Digimon, "I'll be just fine."
The~Ninth~Child
-Digital World; The Next Day-
"Hey there, guys!" Agumon shouted happily running up to the DigiDestined with Tentomon, Gabumon, Biyomon, Palmon, and Gomamon.
"Merry Christmas!" Davis laughed, running up with the others to the group of Digimon.
"What's Christmas?" The orange dinosaur asked curiously.
"It means you're gonna be the best presents the original DigiDestined ever got!" the maroon-haired boy said loudly.
"What about me?" Palmon asked sadly, her petals drooping. "Mimi lives in America!"
"Did you really think we'd let everyone meet up with their partners and leave you out?" Kari asked rhetorically. "Of course not! You'll be together with Mimi soon!"
Gabumon looked at Kagome and was startled at the somewhat forced smile she was giving along with the strange look in her eyes. "Kagome?" he walked over the raven-haired girl. "Is everything all right?"
"Everything's fine, Gabumon," Kagome assured the horned Digimon. "Oh! And before I forget…" She reached into the small bag she'd brought with her and took out two wrapped gifts. "Here, there's one for you and the other's for Matt, could you give it to him for me?"
"Why won't you give your gift to him yourself?" Gabumon asked quietly. "Did something happen between the two of you?"
"Not really," the raven-haired girl shook her head, "I just have the feeling that he'll be spending time with Sora after his concert today. I don't want to interrupt them or anything, so I just wanted to make sure he got his gift."
'Sora?' the striped Digimon's ears perked at the thought. 'Why would Matt be—Unless…Oh dear, that's what the look in her eyes was! Heartbreak! Oh Kagome…' "I'll make sure he gets his gift, don't you worry. By the way, can I open mine now?"
Kagome laughed. "Go on, I want to know what you thought of it anyway!"
Gabumon took the package addressed to him and carefully tore the wrapping paper and got passed the tissue in the box until he reached the gift inside. "Kagome…it's beautiful!"
There in his hands was a small white pendant with the Crest of Friendship painted on the front in blue hung on a sturdy leather cord. Inside was a picture of Matt and Gabumon from four years ago while the other picture was of the group shot they'd all taken four years ago just before they came home after the battle with Apocalymon.
"Thank you, Kagome!" Gabumon pulled the necklace over his head before grasping the raven-haired girl in a tight huge. He was tempted to bring up the situation between her, Matt, and Sora, but decided against it in the end.
They headed back towards the rest of the group, where Kagome handed out similar pendants to the rest of the Digimon, each painted differently with different-sized cords to suit the wearer.
"This'll be a snap!" Yolei grinned as they walked towards the nearest DigiPort. "We'll just open up a portal from the Digital World and drop palmon off right in the middle of downtown US of A. Say 'hi' to Mimi for me and when you come back, see if she'll let me borrow that pink blouse I love so much!"
"And don't forget to give her my gift, Palmon," Kagome reminded gently, "But other than that, have a Happy Christmas, okay?"
"Got it!" Palmon winked right when they made it to a small television.
"Okay, so let's get you into this…" Davis and Yolei stuffed Palmon into a sack-like bag they'd brought with them.
"Hey, what are you—" Palmon tried speaking.
""It'll be fine, so don't worry, you'll be seeing Mimi in just a bit," Yolei assured the plant Digimon.
"But I want to—" Palmon's words were cut off just as the portal sucked the bag and Palmon through.
"Well, that's one down and five more to go!" Davis grinned.
-Earth; Beach in Odaiba-
(AN: I honestly couldn't pinpoint the geography so I couldn't tell what beach this was, though I'm assuming that it's the one that T.K went down to while searching for Kari when she ended up at the Dark Ocean…)
The DigiDestined made their way to the beach carrying five large sacks, each wrapped loosely with a red bow.
Yolei wore a long red button-down coat over a white polo-neck with white gloves, a green skirt that had a crisscross design done in gold thread, navy tights, and a pair of orange boots that went a few inches above her ankle.
Her hair was left down but with a warm orange winter cap over it while Poromon rested in her arms, occasionally jumping out to zip around only to go back again before repeating the process.

Davis wore a navy jacket with a little red on the front and white fur lining the edges of his collar over a blue long-sleeved shirt. He wore a pair of beige gloves, brown cargo shorts, and white socks that stopped short of the knee complete with a pair of dark-blue sneakers.
His wore the goggle Tai gave him proudly in his hair as DemiVeemon rested in his arms, grinning widely.

Kari wore a long pink button-down coat similar to Yolei's over a pink long-sleeved dress with a red scarf wrapped snugly around her neck. She wore a pair of red gloves, a pair of yellow tights, and brown mid-calf-high boots.
A white fuzzy beret was situated neatly on her head while Gatomon was situated in her arms.

Cody wore a long navy-blue coat with a white furry folded collar over a white long-sleeved shirt. He wore a pair of black pants couple with brown shoes and white socks.
He held Upamon in his arms snugly.

T.K wore a long-sleeved green shirt underneath an off-white puffed vest. A pair of grey pants and blue boots with dark-brown cuffs.
On his head was a beige bucket cap on which Patamon situated himself on.

Kagome wore a black knee-length coat that had a folded collar over a small cream-fur-lined caped over the shoulders down to about mid-chest with a flared skirt-like bottom, a belt at the waist, six silver buttons going down the front and two more buttons clasped at the pockets. Underneath, she wore a white short-sleeved dress that had a flared skirt layered lightly underneath with tulle that stopped at a little below mid-thigh. She wore a pair of black tights underneath her dress, tucked into a pair of dark-brown knee-high lace-up boots with wedge heels.
She wore a light cream-hued scarf around her neck underneath her coat and a pair of cream-hued gloves. Her hair was left down and parted at the left with an elaborate lavender butterfly hair pin on the left side of her head and her bangs were splayed out neatly but brushed so that they nearly covered her right eye. In her ears were a pair of semi-medium-sized silver hoops with a lavender butterfly hanging off of each one.
Kudamon rested around her neck as Kapurimon sat in her arms.
"I know I'm supposed to be a present, but did you have to gift wrap me?" Agumon complained.
"Quiet or you'll ruin the surprise!" Davis hissed through his teeth. "Just wait for my signal!"
It was then that they saw the older DigiDestined coming up to meet them. "Hey guys," Tai grinned, "So what was so important that we needed to be here for?"
Tai wore a short dark-blue jacket with yellow paw-prints on the breast pocket over a grey long-sleeved shirt, a pair of dark-grey pants, and a pair of blue and white sneakers.
The blue headband that used to hold his goggles rested around his head.

Matt wore a black polo-neck underneath a black collared coat with black pants and equally black shoes.

Sora wore a long blue coat with a pink scarf over a red long-sleeved sweater-dress, a pair of navy tights, and a pair of white boots. She wore a pair of aqua gloves on her hands and in her ears were a pair of simple gold studs.

Joe wore a cream-hued polo-neck underneath a beige hooded coat with light-brown pants and dark-brown shoes.

Izzy wore a black T-shirt underneath a dark-green hoodie padded with fur on the inside, dark-brown pants, and black shoes.
The dark-brown-haired teen eyed his sister's outfit. "Where did you get that stuff? I'm pretty sure Mom didn't buy it and Dad's hopeless with clothes…"
"Someone special gave me the outfit," Kagome told him calmly, "And Mimi gave me the hair pin and earrings. And no I will not change!"
Tai slumped a bit, grumbling about 'sisters that never listen' and 'beating boys away with a steel bat', causing the group to sweat-drop in response. 'Typical Tai,' they thought exasperatedly.
"Um, anyway," Davis coughed, "Merry Christmas!"
The Digimon inside the sacks took this to be the 'signal' Davis had been talking about and the group watched with smiles as each Digimon leapt out of their sacks to greet their surprised partners.
"Surprise!" Agumon grinned.
"Agumon?! No way!" Tai exclaimed.
"Gabumon," Matt smiled down at his partner.
"It's great to see you Izzy!" Tentomon flew small circles around his genius partner.
"Don't squeeze so hard, Gomamon," Joe chuckled, "I might get a cramp!"
The current DigiDestined giggled or laughed as the previous DigiDestined reacquainted themselves with their partner. "I think they like their present!" DemiVeemon squeaked.
"Just call me Davis Claus!" the maroon-haired boy grinned.
"I don't think that'll catch on anytime soon," Kagome muttered amusedly.
"This is just what I wanted," Sora giggled, "How'd you know?"
"A little Birdramon told us," Yolei winked.
"Hey," Matt noticed the little Digimon in Kagome's arms, "Who's that?"
"Wha—?" Tai looked at see what Matt was looking at and gave a laugh. "That's Kapurimon; apparently, it used to be BlackWarGreymon, but it reverted back to this form. Of course, it gets a little weird since it follows Kagome around like a chick does with its mother…"
"Whoa," Yolei breathed out, "Look at that line! Loads of people are already lined up for Matt's concert!"
"No kidding!" Davis whistled.
"Do you want me to come with you?" Kagome asked Sora quietly, masterfully masking the painful pang she felt.
"Would you?" the orange haired girl asked hopefully with a tremulous smile spreading over her lips.
"You know I would," the raven-haired girl gave a smile to her friend. "Come on, let's go."
The~Ninth~Child
"Don't worry, Sora," Biyomon chirped, "We'll be able to find some good seats! Especially one you give him these homemade cookies!"
"That's not exactly what she's worried about, Biyomon," Kagome chuckled softly. She placed her hand atop Sora's trembling ones, keeping hold of Kapurimon with one arm. "Calm down; everything'll be all right, you'll see!"
"You know?" Sora spoke all of a sudden. "Tai asked me out just a few moments ago, and as sweet as he was, I—I told him that I wanted to be available for Matt just in case he's free after the show."
'So he did like her…' Kagome had known that Tai had a small crush on Sora, especially during the whole Diaboromon incident when he gave her those hairclips for her birthday and then sending that e-mail with a little 'typo' at the closing. However, it wasn't until just now that Kagome realized how serious her brother had been about Sora. 'Normally, he's just completely oblivious to the opposite gender,'Kagome stifled a snort, 'But when it came to Sora, he was always alert…'
"And what did Tai say?" the raven-haired girl asked gently.
"He didn't yell or anything like I thought I would," the orange-haired girl sighed in relief, "He just told me to tell Matt 'hi' and gave me the biggest grin I ever saw on his face."
The door before them finally opened to reveal Gabumon. "Matt's still getting ready, but I'll be happy to take those to him!"
"Oh no you won't," Biyomon mock-huffed, "You'll eat all the cookies yourself!"
"I resent that," Gabumon adopted a mock-hurt expression, "I'm on a diet!"
"Go on," kagome whispered, giving her friend a tiny push forward.
"Hey, Kagome?" Sora looked back at the raven-haired girl. "Thanks for everything; you're a great friend!"
"It was no trouble Sora," Kagome smiled. 'No trouble at all…' She watched as Sora walked into the building and quickly walked over to Gabumon before he closed the door behind him. "Gabumon, could you do me a favour?"
"What is it?" the striped Digimon asked.
"You know that I usually like to be prepared," Kagome explained, "I've had everyone's Christmas presents ready and wrapped long before today and I left a note inside Matt's. Could you just sneak it out and throw it away before he opens the gift?"
"Sure," the striped Digimon said slowly, "I'll get right on it…" 'Or rather, I'll see just why she wants to throw that note away…' he closed the door behind him.
"So, Matt, huh?" Tai asked as he stepped out into view.
"Sora?" Kagome looked at her brother.
The brown-haired teen rubbed the back of his head with a rueful smile. "Heh, I could never get past you…So how long?"
"I don't know…" the raven-haired girl shook her head. "I figured it out after our little 'camping trip', but I think I've always cared about him…You?"
"Same as you," Tai chuckled. "We're really some pair, aren't we? I guess we struck out this time…" He wrapped an arm around his sister's shoulders.
"Come on," Kagome nodded to where the concert was taking place, "Let's go and find our seats before too many people get in line."
Just then they heard a shout. "Look out! Incoming!"
The brother and sister duo turned to the source, only to get knocked to the ground by a rushing June. "Watch where you're going June!" Tai scolded the older girl.
"Sorry, but I'm on my way to see Matt!" the auburn-haired girl squealed. "He's just the dreamiest!"
Tai only twitched in response, while Kagome chuckled lightly.
"I don't think I'll ever understand humans," Agumon shook his head.
"Come on," Kagome helped her brother up and gathered a dazed Kapurimon back into her arms, "Let's get inside." 'I wonder everything's going over at Ken's?'
The~Ninth~Child
Kagome, Joe, Izzy, Tai, and Sora sat with each other, their Digimon in their laps, or in Kudamon's case, around Kagome's neck. Gabumon sat between Tai and Sora, Tai's jacket draped over the horned Digimon.
The crowd screamed loudly as Matt and his band began playing.
(AN: I couldn't really make out the lyrics so well and neither was I able to find a decent transcript of the song Matt sang, so I replaced it with another song I liked, not my favourite by the following group, but one of the ones I definitely liked.)

"Matt's a really good singer!" Gabumon commented. "Though I may be a bit biased…"
Just then, the group heard a shout from, coincidentally enough, right beside them. "I love you Matt!" June squealed. "I'm so your number one fan!"
The older DigiDestined could only sweat-drop along with their Digimon.

Kagome's head snapped up when she felt a familiar and malicious aura. 'I definitely know I'm not imagining that! But where is it coming from?!'

Suddenly, all the equipment stopped working altogether, causing Matt and his bandmates to look on in confusion.
"Something's happened," Sora looked worried, "I wonder what's wrong?"
"I just hope it's a part of the show," Tai said weakly.
Izzy nodded in agreement. "You never know, this is a rock concert!"
"Except this isn't that kind of special effect and neither is it part of the show!" Kagome said urgently. "There's a dark aura nearby, I'm pretty sure that's probably what's causing the problems!"
"Dark aura?" Tai looked seriously at his sister. "Are you sure? Because then that would mean that—"
Suddenly a loud roar sounded through the air, making everyone plug their ears. Right then, the wall behind Matt and his band bust open to reveal a DarkTyrannomon and a small pack of Bakemon.
"What are they doing here?!" the brown-haired teen said, shocked at the turn of events.
"Maybe they're music lovers?" Joe suggested weakly.
"This is the time for running, not joking," Kagome threw a glare at her older-brother-figure. She turned to Kudamon when they were outside of the building. "Kudamon, go! Digi-Armour: Energize!"
"Right!" the fox-like Digimon nodded. "Kudamon Armour Digivolve to: Sorcermon, the Mage of Compassion!"
Kagome looked around in horror at the pandemonium that had broken out because of the many different types of Digimon running rampant as well as the Control Spire situated right next to the TV Station. "We'll hold them off as long as we can," the raven-haired girl told her brother, "Get Davis and the others, now!" she looked at the other Digimon, "If you can, you need to Digivolve!"
"You ruined my concert!" Matt shouted angrily.
"Glad to see you're so focused, Matt," Tai commented, keeping his eye on Sorcermon, who did his best to keep the Digimon at bay.
"Thunder Blast!"
"Rock Cracking!"
The group heard the two attacks and turned just in time to see Raidramon and Digmon take out the Control Spire.
"It's time to clean up this mess!" Ken held his D3 in his hand.
"Wormmon Digivolve to: Stingmon!"
"Let do this old school style!" Tai nodded at his partner.
"You got it," Agumon returned the look. "Agumon Digivolve to: Greymon!"
"Digivolve!" Matt, Sora, Joe, and Izzy told their Digimon urgently.
"Biyomon Digivolve to: Birdramon!"
"Gabumon Digivolve to: Garurumon!"
"Tentomon Digivolve to: Kabuterimon!"
"Gomamon Digivolve to: Ikkakumon!"
"Nova Blast!" Greymon shot off a large fireball at the DarkTyrannomon before tackling it into a wrestling match, each trying to push the other back.
"Meteor Wing!" Birdamon let loose two shots of fire at a Megadramon
"Ha!" the Megadramon scoffed. "Missed me!"
"Surround it, Kabuterimon!" Garurumon ordered as he held down a Kuwagamon.
"Izzy," Kagome turned to the aurburn-haired genius quickly, "Can you get a DigiPort up on your laptop here?"
"You bet!" Izzy nodded as he began typing away.
"Everyone!" Joe called out to the Digimon. "Get all the Digimon together in one place, we're gonna send 'em back to the Digital World!"
"Halsemon!" Yolei ordered.
"At your service!" the Eagle Digimon spoke. "Udjat Gaze!" Glowing rings were released upon a group of Digimon, hypnotizing them to fall asleep.
"Ready partner?" Nefertimon shouted to Pegasusmon.
"Whenever you are!" Pegasusmon nodded.
"Golden Noose!" The two Armour Digimon captured another group of Digimon in a net created from their Golden Noose.
"You ready, Izzy?" Kagome called back to her friend.
"Whenever you are," he nodded.
"Then what are we waiting for?" Yolei ran up to them and held her D3 to the screen. "DigiPort: Open!"
A glow shone from the screen as the two groups of Digimon that had already been readied for transport were sucked in through the screen and back into the Digital World.
"Well," Davis commented, "That wasn't so hard."
"Easy as pie," Tai agreed.
"Good grief," Kari sighed, "I think we need to make it a rule that Tai and Davis aren't allowed to be in the same room together."
"Forget about them, Kari," T.K held the girl in pink close, "It's the Digimon that worry me. How did they get into our World? And where did that Control Spire come from?"
"Listen up!" Ken said as Greymon tossed the DarkTyrannomon into the DigiPort. "I think Arukenimon's behind all this!"
"You think so?" Tai looked at the navy-haired boy.
""What makes you think so?" Davis asked.
"Because she's able to move freely between both worlds," Ken looked Davis dead straight in the eye.
"Birdamon, Nefertimon, wrap 'em up to go!" Davis called up to the two winged Digimon.
"Push 'em back! Push 'em way back!" Raidramon grunted as he and Ikkakumon moved the bundle across and into the DigiPort.
"Ken, Davis," Tai looked at the preteens, "Do you want to do the honors?"
"Okay, new plan, guys," Davis spoke up, "We have to fight Ultimates with Ultimates! Get back to your Rookie stages and get ready for DNA Digivolution!"
One by one, all of the Digimon reverted back to their Rookie stages, bar Gatomon who was already in her Champion stage.
"Veemon Digivolve to: ExVeemon!"
"Hawkmon Digivolve to: Aquilamon!"
"Armadillomon Digivolve to: Ankylomon!"
"Patamon Digivolve to: Angemon!"
"Kudamon Digivolve to: Reppamon!"
"Now let's see what all this DNA Digivolution fuss is abo—" Tai cut himself off to stare at Reppamon. "Kagome, why did Kudamon Digivolve? He can't go Ultimate, remember? And you don't have a DNA Digivolution partner!"
"I've got a few tricks up my sleeve," Kagome winked at her brother.
"ExVeemon…" "Stingmon…"
"DNA Digivolve to: Paildramon!"
"Aquilamon…" "Gatomon…"
"DNA Digivolve to: Silphymon!"
"Angemon…" "Ankylomon…"
"DNA Digivolve to: Shakkoumon!"
Kagome closed her eyes and clasped one hand to her chest while the other kept hold of Kapurimon, her tattoo beginning to glow through the cover up she'd used.

"Why is she singing?!" Joe looked at the girl he considered his younger sister.
"I didn't even know she could sing…" Matt watched the girl and listened to her voice with wide eyes.
"Since when did she get a tattoo?!" Tai yelped, seeing the brightly-glowing etching on his sister's face. "Oh man, when Mom and Dad see, they'll blow a gasket!"
'That voice…' Izzy's eyes narrowed, 'It sounds like it could be Kagome's, and yet it sounds too unearthly to be real!'

When the final note left Kagome's lips, Reppamon began glowing. "Icy-blue orbs opened to look upon her Digimon Partner. "Go."
"Reppamon Digivolve to: Chirinmon!"
"He just—Did he—but how?!" Sora tried making sense of what she'd just seen.
"Sting Strike!" Paildramon aimed at the Megadramon, but the Digimon used his snake-like body to dodge the incoming attack.
"Static Force!" Silphymon let loose a ball of energy, clashing with Monzaemon's Hearts Attack
"Kachina Bombs!" Shakkoumon launched a small array of coin-like objects with razor-sharp edges that immediately surrounded the two Digimon.
"Swift Knowledge!" Chirinmon used his clones and speed to confuse the Asuramon he was up against. "Heaven's Gale!" this attack pushed the Asuramon back forcefully into the DigiPort.
Shakkoumon took this chance to literally pick up the Monzaemon and toss him back into the Digital World via the DigiPort. Paildramon tqirled the Megadramon a few times with its tail before launching him at the DigiPort.
"And to all a good night!" Yolei commented after Izzy closed his laptop, thereby closing the DigiPort.
"We did it!" Davis cheered as the Digimon all reverted to either their In-Training, Fresh, or Rookie forms.
"You've got some explaining to do, Young Lady!" Tai stalked up to his sister. "Where the heck did you get that tattoo?!"
The~Ninth~Child
"Guys," Tai said seriously as they all walked towards the train station, "If Arukenimon and her Digimon can move between worlds, then we're in big trouble!"
"So what are gonna do?" Matt asked.
"We'll fight," Tai answered.
It wasn't long before they all reached the train station. Ken turned to them and gave a small smile. "Thanks for walking me to the train. I guess my party's over, then; it was short, but I had a lot of fun."
"We had a great time, too, Ken!" Davis grinned. "And we're coming over next year, too!"
"Merry Christmas," Sora smiled at Kari, "And Happy New Year."
"You too," Kari smiled back.
"Oh man," Davis remembered, "I forgot to catch Kari under the mistletoe!"
"He just never quits, does he?" Tai shook his head. "You have a lot to learn about women, Davis!"
"Oh good grief!" T.K threw his hands up into the air. "Daivs, I want you to watch closely and never think about kssing Kari ever again!"
Kagome hid a grin as she realized what the young blonde was going to do. 'Oh well, it had to come out sooner or later!'
Everyone watched with jaws dropped as T.K grabbed a giggling Kari gently and pulled her in for a sweet kiss.
The raven-haired teen burst out laughing as she saw the looks on everyone's faces. "You seriously never saw this coming?!"
"What the—Why—" Davis sputtered.
"Kari's my girlfriend, Davis," T.K explained, "And she has been for a while now."
"Why didn't I know about this?" Tai glared at T.K, holding Kari close to him and away from who he now dubbed 'the enemy'.
"M-My little b-brother had a g-girlfriend before me?!" Matt had a stupefied look on his face.
-The Next Morning-
"This really isn't good," Kagome watched the television screen wide-eyed with her brother, sister, and their Digimon. "Definitely not good!"
The news report on the screen showed how Control Spires had popped up in various places throughout the world and Digimon were appearing where the Control Spires had been erected.
"We need to call a meeting," Kagome and Tai nodded at each other.
