PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE BEGINNING!

AN: Hiiiiii~! Sorry if this doesn't seem too long, but I had to cut it off at a certain place so that what I was planning for the next chapters would go over smoothly.

Review, but if you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all!

-The Ninth Child-

xX-And Old Foe Reconfigured-Xx

"What's going on?" Kagome, Chirinmon, and Kapurimon arrived to hear Owikawa shout in desperation. "I don't understand! What's wrong? What's happened to my dream?!"

Unnoticed by the others, Chirinmon came to a soft landing behind the DigiDestined Preteens and Cody as their Digimon fought Mummymon and Arukenimon. "It looks like I was right," Kagome muttered, "Because that idiot went through with his hare-brained scheme, we got ricocheted off somewhere else…"

"Hey, he's right," Kari realized, over the sound of the group of weeping children, "Where are we?"

"I don't know," Yolei shook her head, "Matt told us that something sealed the Gate at Highton View, so maybe because Owikawa tried accessing that Gate, we got rebounded off into another world, but which world this is, I don't know."

"I've never seen anything like this before," Ken shook his head in confusion.

"As we came through a Gate that was created using the connection to the sealed Digital Gate at Highton View Terrace," Kagome spoke up quietly, "We just might be in a world slightly related to the Digital World. As we can't go to our destination through something that's blocked, the only answer would be to go to someplace closely related."

"Kagome?" Davis blinked in surprise at the raven-haired teen's appearance. "When'd you get here? I thought you were off singing again?"

"I came because I felt something happening at Highton View Terrace," Kagome explained, "I knew that ghastly man was stupid, but I didn't think he was mad enough to even try a stunt like this! There is a reason why only certain people, namely DigiDestined, can go to the Digital World. We sealed that Gate at Highton View because we knew that Owikawa would try to come through to the Digital World using that gateway as it's been used and opened many times in the past."

"Wait," Cody said slowly, "You said 'we sealed that gateway'. Does that mean you and someone else sealed the Gate at Highton View?"

The raven-haired girl nodded. "I sealed the Gate with the Guardians' help to prevent Owikawa from going through. But I didn't think about what would have happened if he tried going through that gateway even after it was sealed. Yolei was right about her theory; because the gate Owikawa originally intended to use was sealed off, we were ricocheted into another world altogether. But because we came through a Gate that used a connection to the Gate at Highton View, we most likely landed in a place similar or as close to the Digital World as we could get."

Suddenly, their heads snapped over to Owikawa when he roared in frustration. "It's not fair! I want to go to the Digital World!"

Just then, to everyone's surprise, a large pair of violet lips with small white fangs peeking over the bottom lip appeared in midair above Owikawa. "Oh be quiet; you can't always get what you want!"

"Now that's what I call a big mouth!" Davis whistled.

The raven-haired teen's eyes narrowed at the floating lips. 'So that was the source of Darkness I felt inhabiting that ghastly man…But who is it? I know it feels familiar…'

"You can forget about the Digital World, Owikawa," the lips spoke, "It's beyond your reach now and you'll never be able to see it, even in your dreams!"

Hearing this, the group of children manipulated by Owikawa into coming with him, huddled closer together and cried even louder.

"Yes," the lips grinned maliciously, "Cry you pathetic little weaklings, for you are doomed! You've entered a world of despair where your souls will be consumed by darkness! And lucky for you, there is no place for you to hide nor escape!"

The children's weeping escalated with their heightened fear.

"Who or what are you?!" T.K demanded. "Are you working with Daemon or some other weirdo?"

"Damemon? Ha!" the lips scoffed.

"Am I going crazy or is my voice coming out of that mouth?!" Owikawa asked weakly.

"A bit of both, I think," the lips grinned spitefully, "You see, I'm you!"

"Wh-What do you m-mean?" the sickly looking man stuttered out.

"Four years ago, I was in need of a host," the lips explained, the malicious grin never leaving all the while, "When I found you, I used your body to store my data; and just like that, you and I became one entity."

'Four years ago? Store his data?' Kagome's eyes widened suddenly. 'It couldn't be—but I thought we defeated him?!'

"Three years ago?" Owikawa shook his head. "But that was around the time when my friend Hiroki died!"

"Hahahahaha! Yes, Hiroki," the lips spoke in a mocking tone, "The friend whom you pretended to grieve, but you secretly hated him didn't you? Hated him because he broke his promise of the two of your going to the Digital World together! You hated him because he left you all alone!"

"No! No that's not true!" Owikawa shouted desperately. "I could never hate Hiroki!"

The lips only let out a laugh and opened up, allowing a dark shadow to pass over everyone, bringing them to what seemed like a nighttime scene near a bridge with the Digital World floating up in the sky.

"Hey isn't this when—" Kari began asking, only to be shushed quickly by her sister, only getting a nod in response. The raven-haired teen pointed to the scene before them.

There a few feet away was a man with shirt black hair and a black suit. What surprised everyone was that the man over there was a younger version of Owikawa from four years before. "Are you sure you don't remember?" the baritone voice asked.

"Look, Hiroki," the younger Owikawa pulled out a picture of Cody's father and held it up to the sky, "It's the Digital World that we were supposed to visit together! Can you see it? It's so beautiful…Can you see it?!" Tears welled up in dark orbs as he fell to his knees. "Why did you have to do it, Hiroki, why did you have to die and leave me alone?! How could you do this to me?!"

Suddenly far off from Owikawa, a pillar of rainbow light shone as it lifted nine children up into the sky with their Digimon partners. "The DigiDestined!" Owikawa breathed out in awe. "Please take me with you! I want to leave this world!"

"Do you really want to go to the Digital World?" a disembodied voice asked.

"What's that?" Owikawa asked, looking around for the voice's source. "Who's there?"

"If you really want to go to the Digital World," the voice continued, "Soothe your heart with darkness and I'll take you there."

"Yes!" Owikawa agreed quickly. "I'll do anything! Anything you want! Just take me there! Please!"

"So be it!" The voice chuckled darkly as a stream of white mist twisted around the younger Owikawa's figure and slipped into him through his ear.

"That was you?" The present Owikawa spoke in shock when the scenery of the past faded off. "This whole time, you've been inside of me controlling everything I did?!"

"Oh, I do so love the irony, my little marionette," the voice chuckled.

Gatomon gasped. "That voice…"

"What about it?" Kari asked worriedly.

"I still hear that voice in my nightmares!" Gatomon's slitted eyes narrowed upon the floating lips. "It's…Myotismon!"

The lips only laughed darkly, confirming Gatomon's statement, thought he said naught a word.

"Myotismon?" Angemon asked. "But how can that be?"

"Are you sure?" Kari asked her partner.

"She's right," Kagome hissed, feeling the dark aura tainting the air.

"I'm not so surprised that you saw through me, my old pet," Myotismon chuckled. "But here's something you didn't know: Those Dark Spirals were modeled after your own beloved tail-ring. So in a way, you caused all those Digimon to be enslaved!"

"I should've known that only your twisted mind could come up with a plan as evil as this," Gatomon growled, "If it takes my nine lives, I'll destroy you!"

"A delightful thought," Myotismon's lips grinned, "But you're so very misguided!" And with that said, the lips floating in midair disappeared in a quick twist. Suddenly, Owikawa hunched over as though he were in pain, when his body shot up and a large bolt of dark-blue shot out of his mouth to land in a tall figure a few feet away.

"What the—?" Davis had a slightly disgusted look on his face. "What just happened?!"

Everyone watched as the blue figure morphed until it formed a perfect copy of Owikawa. "What's wrong?" the double said with Myotismon's voice. "Seeing double are we? Gatomon got your tongue? Oh and by the way, about the Dark Spores opening a doorway between the worlds, they're just the batteries that will finally allow me to be reborn!"

"Y-You—" Owikawa tried speaking, but his body seized up before collapsing to the ground in an unmoving heap.

Myotismon-Owikawa stalked over to the group of crying children infected with the Dark Spore copies, an odd grin on his face. "Now don't worry, I won't destroy you just yet. I only need to gather up those Dark Flowers growing inside of—WHAT?!" Myotismon-Owikawa stopped when he was only a foot away from the children. "This can't be—Where are the Dark Flowers?! They should have bloomed by now! Why are they still saplings that have yet to bloom?!"

The DigiDestined shared a glance with each other before looking at Kagome, a question in their eyes. "Did you have anything to do with this?" their eyes seemed to ask the older girl.

Kagome only nodded slightly and tapped her throat and mouth, silently telling them that it was her singing that slowed the growing process of the Dark Spores.

"Get away from those kids, you freak!" Davis shouted charging ahead with Ken, Veemon, and Stingmon.

"Well?" Myotismon-Owikawa roared at Mummymon and Arukenimon. "Go ad destroy them once and for all!"

"Oh right!" the two said in unison, breaking out of their stupefied state and going off to fight the DigiDestined's partners as they were ordered.

"Spider Thread!"

"Necrophobia!"

As the Digimon were preoccupied with the two Ultimate Digimon, their human partners had no way of getting to the group of children a couple metres off from where they stood. Davis and the others could only watch helplessly as Myotismon-Owikawa manipulated the Dark Saplings to surface and gathered them, despite the fact that they weren't Dark Flowers just yet.

"Damn…" Kagome muttered under her breath, "I slowed down the process, but even with those Dark Saplings, he'll still have enough power to fashion himself a new body!" 'I should at least be a little grateful, though, since those Dark Spore never made it to being Dark Flowers like that one girl's, he won't be as powerful as he should have been had he gained the Dark Flowers. But there's one thing that worries me: He already has the energy of one Dark Flower, and since the others are Saplings, what if that one Flower's energy catalyzes the Saplings' energy to be converted into those of Dark Flowers'?'

"Allow me to reveal my new and improved form!" Myotismon-Owikawa laughed. He hunched over suddenly as a blue metallic mass burst through the Owikawa shell Myotismon had been using. The DigiDestined and the Digimon could only watch as a giant metallic-blue mass became a robot figure withviolet wingblades, a long tail, and a demonic humanoid head with blonde hair and a red bat-like mask.

"He's changed!" Cody said in shock.

"But into Myotismon or VenomMyotismon?" T.K asked.

"I have a feeling it's something entirely different," Kagome grimaced.

"Just call me…" Myotismon straightened out his new form and looked them straight in the eye, "MaloMyotismon!"

Suddenly, without any warning, the newly formed Mega Digimon's arm reached out and swiped Arikenimon up by her neck. "M-Master, w-what are—"

"Look away," Kagome hissed at the younger children, "Look away now!"

"Kagome, what—? Kari looked up at her sister with wide eyes.

"Do as I say," the raven-haired teen told them quietly, "You don't want to see any of this."

"You know what's gonna happen don't you, Sis?" T.K asked.

"I have a very good idea," Kagome nodded. "Now close your eyes, or do whatever you can, but whatever you do, do not look!"

"I'm only granting your wish my dear servant," MaloMyotismon grinned darkly. "Say good night, my sweet spider!"

Despite having their eyes closed or covered, the younger DigiDestined cringed at the shriek of pain and fright that came from Arukenimon when her voice was suddenly cut off. Their fear was furthered when they heard Mummymon's howl of anguish and agonizing pain.

"You can open your eyes now," Kagome said stone-faced.

One by one, each of the young DigiDestined opened their eyes, their figures trembling from the sounds they heard. This was only heightened when they saw that Arukenimon and Mummymon were no longer in existence.

"Come on, Kari!" Gatomon nodded. "It's time to Digivolve!"

"No!" the light-brown-haired preteen shook her head. "I don't want you to get destroyed!"

"Can't someone else fight?!" Yolei shook. "Anyone?"

"I've never been so afraid in my entire life," T.K wrapped his trembling arms around Kari. "Not even when we faced Myotismon the first time around or even Devimon!"

"This is just a nightmare," Cody said softly, "I'll wake up soon! I know I will!"

"Come on, guys," Davis spoke loudly, "It's up to us to stop him!"

"Are you telling me that you're just going to let fear rule your lives like this?" Kagome spoke to them. "Everyone can be afraid of something, but it's up to us to face those fears to move forward."

"Kagome's right," Davis agreed, "If we think we can't win, then we're all doomed from the start! We can win if we just believe in ourselves and each other!"

"He's right," ExVeemon nodded.

Unfortunately, it seemed that none of their words had gotten through to the still-frightened quintet as they flinched and drew back into each other a little more.

"Don't worry about a thing, Davis," ExVeemon told his partner, "I'll fight him all by myself if I have to!"

"Help him, Chirinmon," Kagome nodded to her partner.

"As you wish, Milady," Chirinmon inclined his head slightly.

"Ah, but—" Davis tried protesting.

"Hey, you think I'm gonna lose, don't ya?" the winged Digimon said indignantly to his maroon-haired partner.

"Uh…" Davis trailed off.

"Believe in your partner and yourself," Kagome told the only person willing to fight at this moment, "No matter what happens, always remember one thing: Belief is power."

"You're right, we'll fight!" Davis nodded. He turned to ExVeemon, "Okay, just pretend that it's the last minute of a soccer game and it's you against the goalie. You know what to do, right?"

"Not a clue," ExVeemon said with a straight face, making Kagome and the maroon-haired preteen nearly face-fault.

"Beat the bad guy!" Davis huffed good-naturedly.

"You got it! Let's go Chirinmon!" ExVeemon nodded, stalking over to the Mega Digimon. "You don't look so tough!"

MaloMyotismon only growled in response.

"Ken, please," Stingmon turned to look at his partner.

Kagome watched with proud eyes as Ken hesitated for a second before running off to where Davis stood, grabbing a hold of his arm. "W-Wait, if we fight, then ExVeemon and Stingmon need to DNA Digivolve, or they won't stand a chance against MaloMyotismon."

"Your hand," Davis looked at the hand grabbing his arm, "It's shaking…"

"I can't help it," Ken retracted said appendage, "I-I'm afraid!"

"Look, we can't DNA Digivolve if you're scared to do it," Davis smiled gently at his friend, "You can't let fear control you!"

"Davis is right," T.K spoke up suddenly, "We have to hide our fears from MaloMyotismon or he'll use them against us. We have to!"

"Go get him, ExVeemon!" Davis ordered. "You'll fight and you'll win! I know you will!"

"Go Chirinmon!" Kagome called out.

The DigiDestined could only watch in apprehension as ExVeemon and Chirinmon flew straight at MaloMyotismon, only to be roughly knocked back a few metres.

"Kagome, Davis, we need to go!" T.K pleaded. "He's too strong! We have to run before MaloMyotismon turns both your Digimon into handbags!"

"I'll never give up!" Davis refused. "I've never given up before and I definitely won't now!"

"The same goes for me," Kagome agreed, "If you're quitting because you're afraid, then you're all much weaker than I thought you all were! There is absolutely no way I'll ever give up!"

Suddenly, a blue glow outlined ExVeemon as a simultaneous golden glow outlined Chirinmon. The two Digimon got back up from where they lay and tackled MaloMyotismon once more, this time, knocking him back in two different directions. "It's working…" Davis breathed out, "It's working!"

"Vee-Laser!"

"Heaven's Gale!"

MaloMyotismon was moved back a few feet, but was otherwise untouched by the attacks. "So you want to hardball, do you?"

"Show him what you're made of ExVeemon!" Davis cheered.

Suddenly MaloMyotismon's eyes let out a bright white glow that enveloped them all. "Mental Illusion!"
