PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE BEGINNING!
AN: Okay, I know I'm getting this out pretty quick and I know this won't be very long, but I hope it's okay despite the fact that sounds a touch choppy, I think! I'm going to leave it off at a certain point because, for one thing, I'm no good at depicting battle scenes, I'm pants at it, so please don't have a go at me about how I should've elaborated more…
Now there might be a few things that seem a little unclear about some added characters in the chapter, so what you'll need to do is go back to the chapter labeled "INTERMISSION" and just look up whatever on there so you understand what I was trying to go for.
Review, but if you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all!
-The Ninth Child-
xX-Of Fantasies and Discord-Xx
-Davis-
(AN: I know Davis never fell for the illusion, but I needed to do this for the sake of where I'd be going with my story)
"Hey, Davis!" the DigiDestined all ran over to the maroon-haired preteen standing at the edge of the soccer field.
"Hey guys!" Davis grinned. "Can you believe it? We made it through to the national soccer tournament!"
"We knew you could do it, Davis!" Kari smiled.
"I couldn't have done without all of you cheering me on," the maroon-haired preteen told his friends. "You're the best friends a guy could ever have!"
"So what do you say to a post-game celebration?" T.K suggested.
-T.K-
"Hey, Mom," T.K called out to his mother as he walked into the apartment he lived in with her, "Sorry I'm late!" He stopped short. "Huh? What's going on here?"
Right there sitting at the dining table was Matt and his father with his mother placing dishes of food on the table. And fortunately for him, there wasn't even a hint of the tense atmosphere that he'd observed to be there as he'd grown older.
"Hey, T.K!" Hiroto Ishida greeted with a large smile. "Just in time for dinner! Mom made your favourite goulash!"
"All right!" T.K broke out into a large grin. "It's been a long time since the whole family's been together!"
-Yolei-
"Oh wow, look at the deserts!" Yolei squealed as she sat at the dining table in her home. She looked hungrily at the many different deserts that were laid out on the table. "There must be over two dozen different kinds here! Are these all for me?" She looked up at her mother in askance.
Maya Inoue only giggled.
"No way, they're all for me!" Yolei shrieked happily. "Yay! All for me!"
-Cody-
"This is the Digital World, Dad. The one I was telling you all about," Cody spoke as he and his father walked through a large flower meadow with small baby Digimon bouncing all over. "It can be a little strange at first, but you'll get used to it soon enough!"
Hiroki Hida only hummed as he grinned out at the scenery.
"I'd really like to introduce you to some of the Digimon here," Cody smiled up at his father, "They definitely look small, but they pack a punch! You should've seen som of the crazy stuff we've been through!" Cody's voice softened just a bit. "I think you'd be really proud, Dad!"
-Kari-
"It's such a beautiful day today, don't ya think?" Kari asked Gatomon as she and her partner lounged under a large shady tree. She turned to Gatomon's figure on the other side of the tree, "Hey—"
"Kari!" a voice called out to the light-brown-haired preteen.
Said girl looked up to see a young about seven, maybe eight, with his mother and holing a smiling Nyaromon in his arms. "I was wondering, when will my Nyaromon Digivolve to a Salamon?"
"Do you take really good care of her?" Kari asked.
"Yeah!" the young boy nodded enthusiastically. "Of course I do!"
"Don't worry," Kari smiled, "As long as you give her lots of love, she'll Digivolve soon enough!"
-Ken-
"Would you like a little more shrimp, Ken, dear?" Rika Ichijouji asked her son.
"No thanks, Mom," Ken shook his head with a slight smile, "Hey, do you want some, Sam?"
"Yeah, that's be great!" the ten-year old Ichijouji grinned, holding out his bowl to his, once younger now older, brother.
The Ichijouji family was at the table laden with many a traditional Japanese dish to celebrate Sam's homecoming.
"My goodness, you two certainly are close aren't you?" Seiji Ichijouji chuckled. "When you two were younger, Sam would be so engrossed in his studies, but now look at the two of you! Thick as thieves!"
Ken and Sam only shared a glance before grinning.
-Kagome-
"Kagome," Airi Kamiya called out to her daughter, "Your date's here!"
"Does she really need to go?" Ryo Kamiya whined.
"Oh hush," Airi giggled at her husband, "Kagome is perfectly wonderful young lady. She's both old enough and mature enough to trust her to go out with a boy. You know it had to happen!"
"I'm more on Dad's side," Tai grumbled. "Why did he have to be the one to ask her out?"
"Well, you trust him don't ya?" Kari winked, giggling when her brother only continued to grumble.
"I'm leaving now, Mama!" Kagome called out to her mother.
"Oh, be careful, but have a good time, sweetie!" Airi kissed her daughter's forehead before practically shoving her out the door.
Kagome blinked for a moment before focusing on the blonde teen who stood before her with a rose in hand. "Hey, Kagome," the teen smiled.
"Hi, Matt," the raven-haired teen greeted back.
-T.K-
"So I heard a joke today," Nancy Takashi spoke amusedly, "A duck walks into the pharmacy and asks for some lip balm. The clerk asks 'cash' or 'charge' and the duck answers: 'Put it on my bill'!"
The family of four laughed at the joke. T.K grinned and looked at his equally smiling brother, happy that his family was all together. "T.K…" came a familiar voice from above.
"Patamon?" T.K glanced up to see his partner Digimon lying atop his head. "What are you doing here?"
"I came to get you," Patamon replied, "We need you back!"
"I can't come right now, Patamon," the young blonde smiled lightly, "I'm not even finished eating dinner yet!"
"None of this is real," Patamon tried making his partner understand, "It's an illusion!"
"What are you talking about, Patamon?" T.K asked. "Look, my family's finally—Huh?!" the scene before him with his family seemed to be getting farther and farther away, despite him still sitting in the same place as he had been for the past few moments. "What's going on?! Don't go! Patamon, do something, I want them to stay!"
"T.K, I can't do anything," the winged Digimon frowned a little, "It's not real!"
"But then—Maloyotismon!" T.K gritted his teeth. "He's gonna pay for messing with my dreams!" He stopped for a moment. "But—uh, how do we get out of here, anyway?"
"I don't—What was that?!" Patamon's ears perked up when they heard what seemed to be footsteps walking towards them.
"It sounds like someone's coming here?" T.K's brow furrowed. "But who is it? Could it be one of the others?"
As if on cue, a dark void opened up and a boy of 15 walked out with a Gazimon by his side.
The~Ninth~Child
The boy had a light-peach complexion, piercing red eyes that currently glowed with a dull-yellow outline, and shaggy light-brown hair with a small piece tied back into a little ponytail.
He wore a pair of red shorts with a black tank-top, a couple wristbands were clasped around his wrists. A pair of black and white sneakers paired with white mid-calf high socks were placed on his feet.
However, what stood out the most on the boy was the large glowing citrine eye etched on nearly half of his neck.
The~Ninth~Child
"Wh-Who are you?" T.K asked, taking a step back.
"De-DigiDestined of Greed: Aiden Minami," the boy, Aiden, answered.
"Why are you here?" Patamon asked warily.
"De-DigiDestined of Greed: Aiden Minami. Mission: Destroy the DigiDestined," was all Aiden said.
'De-DigiDestined?' T.K's eyes narrowed. 'Didn't Gennai say something about this four years ago, back when Myotismon first appeared in our world back then?'
The Gazimon took a step forward, a citrine eye glowing on his forehead. "Gazimon Digivolve to: Devidramon!"
"Let's go, Patamon," T.K told his partner.
"Right!" Patamon nodded.
-Davis-
(AN: Sorry, meant to put this before T.K's, but I ended up mixing it up on accident.)
"This is like the best party ever!" Davis cheered as he took another slice of pizza from one of the many boxes he and the group had ordered.
"Hey," Matt shrugged with a wink, "You deserve it, star player!"
"Hey, why don't we break out the soda?" Tai suggested, holding up a can of some kind of beverage.
"Yeah!" Everyone in the room shouted.
"Davis?" came a voice from behind.
The maroon-haired preteen turned around an grinned when he saw Veemon standing there with a sad sort of smile on his face. "Hey Veemon! Whatcha standing over there for? Come on and get something to eat!"
"I can't, Davis," the little blue Digimon shook his head, "Because none of this is real. It's all an illusion, Davis. Nothing here's real."
"What're you talking about? Davis laughed off what his partner said. "Everyone's right here and—Wait, is it me, or am I not where the party was?"
True enough, Davis was standing in the middle of what seemed to be empty white space with nothing in sight, not even his friends or even a smidgen of food.
"Ya weren't there in the first place, Davis," Veemon shook his head, "It ain't real."
"MaloMyotismon, wasn't it?" Davis's eyes widened in realization.
"Ya got it in on," Veemon nodded.
"Uh, Veemon?" Davis asked, pointing to a little black speck that grew larger and larger with each passing moment. "What's that?"
The blue Digimon peered at the speck that was now a black void. "Beats me, Davis."
Before they knew it, a girl of thirteen walked out a black PawnChessmon at her side.
The~Ninth~Child
The girl had a pale complexion, amber eyes with a glowing hunter-green outline, and wavy shoulder-length indigo hair left loose.
She wore a darkwash denim skirt paired with a grey T-shirt and a darkwash denim vest left open. On her feet was a pair of mid-calf-high hiking boots.
And on her neck was a large symbol of Nemesis glowing a bright hunter-green.
The~Ninth~Child
"Uh, what's a girl doing here?" Davis scratched his head.
"I wouldn't underestimate her, Davis," Veemon's eyes narrowed. "MaloMyotismon might be up to somethin'!"
"De-DigiDestined of Jealousy: Eileen Miyamoto," the girl stated in a monotone voice, "Mission: Destroy the DigiDestined."
"Oh boy…" Davis sucked in a breath.
The black PawnChessmon with a hunter-green symbol of Nemesis on his forehead stepped forward. "PawnChessmon Digivolve to: KnightChessmon!"
"Get ready Veemon!" Davis gripped his D3. "DigiArmour: Energize!"
-Yolei
"My mow Mym domma bet a domagage, bud I tan't hmp myshlf!" Yolei squealed through another bite of dessert in her mouth.
"My dear, Yolei," came a familiar accented voice, "Is this really what you've always wanted?"
Yolei swallowed her current cite and looked down to see Hawkmon standing on the ground looking up at her with a small smile of his face. "Huh? Well, of course! Dessert is my favourite meal!"
"Do you like not having your brothers and sisters around?" Hawkmon asked with a knowing tone.
"Yeah, it means more for me!" Yolei took another hearty bite before putting down her fork, frowning. "Hmm, actually, I kind of miss them right now."
"You've always been surrounded by your brothers and sisters," the bird Digimon spoke, "So you always feel as though you're being passed over. Because of that, you've wondered what it would have been like if they weren't there, am I right?"
"You're right," the lavender-haired girl nodded, "I guess I've always wondered about what it would be like to be an only child…But I love my brothers and sisters and I love having them in my life!"
Hawkmon only hummed with a knowing grin on his face as he nodded.
"Thank you, Hawkmon," Yolei hugged her partner, "I guess I was being a really big oinker back there! Sometimes it takes someone to show you things a little more clearly; you're the best friend, ever!"
"You're making me blush!" Hawkmon flushed a little as the scenery around them faded to white.
"Hawkmon," Yolei's eyes suddenly had hearts shining in them, "You never told me you brought a guest! And a really handsome one, too…"
"Guest?" Hawkmon blinked for a moment before looking to where Yolei was before gasping, his feathers sticking up on end.
The~Ninth~Child
The person before then was a seventeen-year-old male with a fair complexion, cerulean eyes rimmed in a hot-pink glow, and short wavy scarlet hair.
He wore a pair of white jeans with a dark-brown belt, a maroon tank-top, navy and maroon sneakers, and a watch on wrist with three wristbands on another.
On his neck was a hot-pink flame glowing brightly. By his side was a Muchomon that had a hot-pink flame glowing on its forehead.
The~Ninth~Child
"So who're you?" Yolei asked, trying not to seem as though she hadn't been drooling over him a few seconds before.
"Be careful, Yolei," Hawkmon warned, "That lad doesn't seem to be who you may think he is!"
"De-DigiDestined of Desire: Daisuke Tanaka," the boy, Daisuke spoke, "Mission: Destroy the DigiDestined."
"Muchomon Digivolve to: Kokatorimon!"
"Uh-oh," Yolei's face turned angry, "I guess it's time to fight, Hawkmon!"
"Absolutely!" Hawkmon nodded.
"Digi-Armour: Energize!"
-Cody-
"And that's how we defeated Daemon," Cody finished his story, "Wasn't that cool, Dad?"
Cody and his father stood at the edge of a cliff, looking over a large field of colorful flowers and Digimon playing in it.
"Cody?" a voice asked from beside the young boy.
"Armadillomon!" Cody grinned. "Where've you been? I want you to meet my dad!"
"Cody, I don't think that's your father," the armadillo Digimon spoke carefully.
"What are you talking about?" the young boy asked. "He's right here holding my hand!"
"Cody, this place isn't real; he isn't real," Armadillomon shook his head. "It's all an illusion, Cody."
"Armadillomon, I think I know my father when I see him," Cody shook his head. He looked up at his father. "He's just being funny, Dad, don't mind him."
Hiroki Hida looked down at his son and smiled before floating straight off the cliff and across the air.
"D-Dad?" Cody called out to his father. "Dad, where're you going? Don't leave me again!" he watched helplessly as the figure of his father disappeared right before his eyes.
"I'm sorry, Cody, but he was never here in the first place," Armadillomon said soothingly.
"I can't believe he left again," tears welled up in Cody's eyes, "And before I got to share the Digital World with him! Well, if I couldn't do it for him, then I'll show my mom, and my grandpa! What do you say to that, Armadillomon?"
"Sounds like a swell idea, Cody," the yellow-gold Digimon nodded. "Now let's get back to the others."
Suddenly out of nowhere a bolt of black struck down from the sky as their surroundings turned a blank white. The black bolt had created a black void in the ground where two figures began emerging up from the void.
One seemed to be a boy of sixteen and the other was a Dracmon.
The~Ninth~Child
The boy had a fair complexion, grey eyes rimmed in a navy glow, and pale-blonde hair tied back in a loose ponytail reaching down to mid-back.
He wore a pair of grey cargo shorts with a black belt, an azure-blue T-shirt over a black long-sleeved shirt, and a pair of black ankle-high combat boots.
A navy sword glowed brightly on his neck as did one on Dracmon's forehead.
The~Ninth~Child
"Armadillomon, I don't think I've ever seen him before," Cody took a step back.
"Me neither, Cody," the armadillo Digimon agreed, "So stay ready just in case!"
"Right!" Cody nodded.
"De-DigiDestined: Shun Yamada," the boy spoke, "Mission: Destroy the DigiDestined."
"Dracmon Digivolve to: Sangloupemon!"
"Oh boy," Armadillomon looked at the wolf Digimon with blades for claws, "They don't look too happy to see us, do they?"
"Digi-Armour: Energize!"
-Kari-
"It's this just wonderful, Gatomon?" Kari as she and Gatomon sat next to each other on a grassy hill overlooking a small park where children and their Digimon played together. "Humans and Digimon playing together without some lunatic out trying to destroy it all!"
"Yeah, but…" Gatomon tried speaking, but trailed off, uncertain if her partner would believe her or not.
"What is it?" Kari looked at her partner worriedly. "Is something wrong?"
"I hate to break it to you," Gatomon's ear wilted, "But this isn't the way things really are."
"What do you mean?" Kari looked confused, not noticing that the . "Have you been into the catnip again?"
"You don't understand!" Gatomon burst out. "It's all just a big illusion!"
The moment the feline Digimon said those words, the entire scene went white as pictures of Digimon and Digimon with humans in harmony lay in a clumped pile that flew further and further away with each passing second.
"You mean, none of this is real?" Kari whimpered. Her face turned annoyed this time, figuring out just who was behind the entire thing. "What nerve! Gatomon, what's going on here?"
"MaloMyotismon cast a spell on all the DigiDestined to distract you," the feline Digimon responded, "Trust me, I know his tricks!"
"If that was an illusion, then who're they?" Kari asked, pointing to two figures walking closer and closer to them.
Gatomon squinted a little to see who or what was coming towards them, only to gasp and back away a few paces, bumping into Kari's legs in the process. "T-They're—They—"
"Gatomon?" Kari asked worriedly.
"De-DigiDestined of Darkness: Kyo Saito," the boy of sixteen spoke as a Ryudamon came to a stop next to him, "Mission: Destroy the DigiDestined."
The~Ninth~Child
The boy had a fair complexion, bright-green eyes rimmed in a grey glow, and blonde hair cut in a messy boycut.
He wore a pair of darkwash jeans, a grey shirt, and a black jacket over that. On his feet were a pair of brown loafers.
A grey arrow glowed brightly on his neck as did one on Ryudamon's forehead.
The~Ninth~Child
"Ryudamon Digivolve to: Ginryumon!"
"Digi-Armour: Energize!" Kari called out.
-Ken-
"Goodnight, Ken!" Sam called out to his brother as the now older Ichijouji sibling walked out of his room, having just tucked the spiky-haired boy into bed.
"Goodnight, Sam," Ken chuckled, closing the door behind him. He walked on into his room. "I never thought I'd ever get along with him…He was there, but always so concentrated on his image and reputation that he didn't always pay so much attention to me. And then there was that incident during Christmas… Oh well, I'm just glad we're back to being a happy family."
"Ken," Wormmon spoke up from atop Ken's desk.
"Wormmon?" Ken asked. "What are you doing over there? Come on, it's time to get to bed."
The bug Digimon shook his head. "I don't think you understand, Ken," he spoke, "this isn't real, none of it is. You're just trapped in an illusion created by MaloMyotismon."
"That can't be right," Ken chuckled lightly, "are you sure you didn't sneak into the wasabi again? You know how you get…"
"I mean it, Ken," Wormmon said firmly, "As much as it pains me to say this, your brother and you aren't getting along right now. Don't you remember what happened after we came back from our World Tour? Sam wasn't being a very nice person back there."
"But—" Ken tried denying the statement, but couldn't when he saw his dark room dissolve slowly into white nothingness. "It really was an illusion, then? Our family's together, but there's a long way to go before any of us are happy again…"
"Destroy the DigiDestined…"
"Ddid you hear something, Wormmon?" Ken asked, looking around for the source of the noise.
"I didn't hear anything, Ken," the bug Digimon shook his head.
"Destroy the Digidestined…"
"There it is again!" Ken searched harder for the source of the voice he'd heard.
"Ken, what are you—oh never mind, I hear it now, too…" Wormmon, too tried searching as well. "It sounds like someone is speaking, but who?"
"De-DigiDestined of Rage: Hina Ueda," a girl of fifteen said form behind Ken, a Beemon floating by her side.
The~Ninth~Child
The girl had a lightly-tanned complexion, a pair of gold eyes rimmed in a red glow. She had copper hair pulled into a high ponytail with her bangs splayed out across her forehead in a straight cut.
She wore a pair of light-denim shorts, a cropped pink T-shirt that exposed just a silver of her midriff, and a pair of knee-high black boots.
On her neck was a red circle with fangs glowing brightly.
The~Ninth~Child
"Beemon Digivolve to: Waspmon!"
"Oh come on," Ken groaned, "I really don't need this right now…Go, Wormmon!"
-Kagome-
"It's a beautiful night," Kagome commented, looking up at the star-studded sky with the moon hanging among them to complete the picture.
Matt and Kagome had just had a simple dinner at a little Italian restaurant and were now standing by the beach, looking out into the beautiful scenery.
"Yeah but, at the risk of sounding cheesy, it's nothing compared to how beautiful you are," Matt told the raven-haired girl softly, stroking her cheek lightly. "I guess I'm pretty thankful that you asked me out during that concert near Christmas. I don't think i would've ever gotten the courage to ask you out…"
'Concert? Christmas?' Kagome straightened up as her eyes narrowed ever so slightly. 'But I wasn't the one that—Sora! She asked Matt out then, so why does he think it's me?! Unless this is—'
"Kagome?" Kudamon asked, wrapping himself around her neck. "Do you understand?"
No words needed to be said to understand what the fox-like Digimon had meant with his question. "Yeah, I do," Kagome nodded, "It's not real, is it?"
"I'm afraid not," Kudamon shook his head, the two watching as the scenery and matt faded off into a white space. "You haven't gotten over him, have you?"
"I don't think I ever will," Kagome shook her head, "He was my first love and for a girl, that always has a special place in her heart. It may not be today and it might not be tomorrow, but someday soon I know I'll find the one meant for me."
"That's my lady," Kudamon nuzzled his partner's cheek. He suddenly stopped when he felt his partner tense. "Kagome?"
"Someone's coming," the raven-haired teen muttered, "And it's not someone we know…his aura is drenched in darkness, but not the kind of darkness that belongs to MaloMyotismon, though I'm sensing traces of his energy within whoever is coming…"
Their answers were shown to them soon enough in the form of a sixteen-year-old boy with a Labramon right beside him.
The~Ninth~Child
The boy had a light-peach complexion, a pair of bright-hazel eyes rimmed in a white glow, and shoulder-length black hair with bangs curled just slightly over his forehead.
He wore a black T-shirt underneath an open white button-down shirt, a pair of maroon-pants, and a pair of light-brown loafers.
On his neck, two white zigzag lines glowed brightly as did they upon Labramon's forehead.
The~Ninth~Child
"And you would be…?" Kagome raised an eyebrow.
"De-DigiDestined of Apathy: Michael Himura," the boy said, "Mission: Destroy the DigiDestined."
"Labramon Digivolve to: Dobermon!"
"And here we go again," Kagome sighed. "Are you ready, Kudamon?"
"Whenever you are, Milady!" the fox-like Digimon nodded.
