"I was wondering if I could ask you something?"

Diana smiled gently at him, folding her hands on the rounded table. "Of course, what is it?"

It was strange, being the first one to a meeting. He never really spent a quiet moment with Diana but Wally found he didn't mind. "Do you guys, I mean girls," he quickly corrected himself, making Diana's smile wider. "Do you have soul mates on that island of yours?"

"We do. Or should I say, everyone else but me does."

That…Wally didn't know how to react to that. "Why?"

Diana remained friendly, seemingly unbothered by their conversation. "Because I was created in a different way. I was made by my mother for herself, for she wanted a child. Not in a selfish, lonely way but because she wished for it. Wherever my soul came from, it seems to be content on its own. I am content."

He blinked at that, feeling a variety of emotions. He felt sad for her, for never going to experience meeting her soulmate.

But he also felt…jealous. She was free from all this.

"You say you're content but…that's not the same as being happy? Don't you feel strange, seeing everyone around you, happy with their soul mate? " Wally asked.

She stood up and moved over to sit in the chair beside him, instead of her own. "Sometimes," she admitted as she and Wally turned to each other. "Sometimes I feel like I'm missing out, seeing how your people describe these moments. In your books and movies and stories. How it seems…absolute. But in the end, this is not the path for me. The gods have chosen differently for me and that is my fate. I don't resent it."

Diana sounded honest too, Wally knew that she meant what she said. That she believed it with every fiber of her being.

"The gods…" Wally echoed, drawing mindless circles on the table with his fingers. "Sometimes I wonder…"

"What do you wonder?" She asked kindly, putting a hand over his on the table.

"I wonder," he repeated himself, "What does it mean…when you find the one for you but you're not the right one for them…" Slowly he looked up at her.

Her expression became softer as she squeezed his hand slightly. "That maybe this wasn't your person after all. Maybe they're just similar enough that your soul echoed with them. That maybe there is more for you to find."

He didn't know what to say to that and it didn't help that the others were slowly joining them as well. Instead, he looked at her and gave her an insecure smile before she went up to get back to her own seat.

Wally blinked a few times when the Batmobile opened up in front of them and pushed their seats forward, the restraints loosening up to be pushed upwards. He had dozed off somewhat, the events of the night and not enough food catching up with him.

Jeremy was still secure in his arms, the rocking of the Batmobile having put the boy to sleep as well.

"Hey," Robin appeared in front of him before the other turned his attention to Batman.

Wally tiredly pushed his restraints up. "I hope Bruce is alright. He hasn't woken up yet." He hadn't even managed to lean forward to get up when he got knocked back into the seat by the collar bone with the hard end of a staff.

Air left him with and he wheezed, Jeremy still securely in his arms. "Wha-"

"What did you just say?"

"I uh…that I hope Batman is alright?" Confused, Wally looked up at Robin, the end of the staff still threateningly close to his face. Why would Robin do a 180 on him all of the sudden because of no-

"Oh." Right. The secret identity thing.

"You knew the entire time?!"

Jeremy was probably the only reason why he was still sitting in the seat and not on the ground. Thankfully. He gave Robin a sheepish look. "To be fair I couldn't be sure if it was the same in this dimension. And how would that have made me look! Batman, and by extent you probably as well, is someone so suspicious. You wouldn't have heard me out."

Robin glared at him. This was the first time that Robin looked actually intimidating.

"Do you know who I am? Oracle?!"

Wally quickly shook his head, not sure if that would have made a difference in the end anyway. Knowing who Batman was, was probably the worst offense he could have made. "No. Batman doesn't have partners in my universe remember? Whether or not you exist there, I've never seen or heard of you…"

The end of the staff moved closer to Wally's nose before it vanished as Robin gave a sigh. "I'll take your word for it. For now." Until Batman was awake. Wally knew that was what was left unsaid. "Get up and just…keep watch over the baby until I can bring him to the Commissioner."

Nodding, Wally stood up and stepped out of the way. "Do you need help carrying him inside?"

"No, it's fine, it's not the first time," Robin said. He moved forward and expertly put one of Batman's arms over his shoulder before pulling him out. And then he suddenly had Batman on his back, groaning. "Come."

Wally let Robin lead the way inside through a hidden door in the wall, seeing how the Batmobile hasn't exactly been able to park on the roof of the building. In there was an almost modern looking elevator that left them to walk through a narrow hallway before they entered a room that allowed them to look into the main hall where Wally had been in his cell.

They didn't go there however. They stayed in this little side room, something akin to a makeshift medical corner set up where Robin, groaning under the weight, put Batman down on a gurney.

Robin began to put some cables on Batman, probably hooking him up to some machinery to assert his current state. There was some hesitation and a side glance over to Wally before Robin sighed and shook his head. Wally couldn't make out what he was saying to himself but a moment later Batman's cowl was taken off.

Wally immediately looked away from the corner, making sure to stare at little Jeremy's sleeping face, rocking him slightly.

"It's fine. Sit down over there." Robin directed and pointed over to a little rolling chair with no backrest.

Wally walked over to the chair and sat down. "How does it look? Is he just unconscious?"

Robin nodded. "Everything's pointing towards that but I'll let Oracle take a look at the data as well. Just to be sure. I'll probably move him to the Batcave later as well, once I know it's not life threatening. Oracle said there had been multiple Grundys?"

"Yeah. Most of them were in a heap in the corner but Calendarman sent two at me. I'm not sure what happened down there but…did he fight them? For days?"

"Maybe? He'd have to tell us later but I wouldn't put it past him." Robin looked over to them and glanced down to Wally's arms. "Especially when there's a baby involved." He looked around after that before leaning to the side and pointing at something behind Wally. "Could you give me the scanner over there. The one that looks like a taser."

"Sure." Wally swiveled around with the chair and glanced at the table. "Uhm, everything here looks like a taser to me?"

"Right. The one with the blue on the handle."

"Blue…" Wally blinked a few times, trying to decide which of the ones looked like having a different colored handle. All of them looked black in dark grey to him. "Well-"

Robin suddenly appeared beside him and took the gadget right in front of him, giving him a curious look before getting back to Bruce. "Interesting. You're colorblind? You never said anything."

He turned back on the chair to watch Robin use the scanner. "I am. But…it's not big of a deal. Back home everyone is until…ah..' He stopped himself. He hadn't thought about that, if the concept of soul mates existed here as well or sounded completely insane.

"Until?" There was surprise in Robin's voice. "It can change?"

"Do you guys have…well, do soul mates exist in this dimension? Or am I sounding absolutely cheesy right now?"

Robin huffed out some air. "They do. But that doesn't affect our sight." He put the scanner to the side of him with various other things and put his hands all over Bruce.

What he hoped to notice through the suit was beyond Wally.

"So...what? You look each other in the eyes and boom, colors?"

"No, we have to touch each other first. A handshake, brushing by someone. It has to be skin on skin however and then colors," Wally briefly explained. Only, now he was curious as to what the equivalent was. "And here?"

Robin looked up and held out his right arm and tapped against the inside of the gauntlet. "We have marks on the arm. Something that your soulmate is going to say to you at some point in your life."

Wally blinked, confused. "What? Like…at any time? Not the first thing or so? I can imagine not many meet their soulmate in that case."

"And many don't. Although the number is higher than what you expect."

"Mhh…" Wally hummed out loud, taking that information in. Pondering if he found his dimension's version of discovering one's soulmate unfair compared to this dimension or not.

"...so does that mean you don't know the color of your suit? Bold choice," Robin said amused as he took a tablet from the side and tapped on it, looking at Bruce's data.

Wally scoffed. "Don't be stupid. I grew up with people who could see color. I have a similar one to my mentor and there was no way to avoid getting called a redhead." He smiled at some of the memories and tried to ignore the underlying bitterness it left. How he missed his aunt and uncle.

"Even so, the color red doesn't mean anything if you don't know how it looks?"

"When I…when I stuck my hand into this energy," Wally said quietly and looked down at Jeremy. For a kidnapped baby he sure was quite content and easy to please. "For a moment I could see colors. The yellow of the energy, the oranges, the red of my suit. I thought I was dying but…"

"You showed up here instead," Robin finished for him, nodding. "Maybe you did die. In your dimension I mean."

"Maybe…that doesn't explain the colors however. I've never heard of someone mentioning suddenly seeing colors on their deathbed, if they survived after all."

Robin glanced up at the monitor before he walked over to Wally and gestured for him to follow him. "I reckon not many die by sticking their hand in a bomb like generator either."

"I suppose." Wally followed Robin outside of the room, back to where the cells were located. He briefly glanced at the cell he had been staying in, only for his attention to snap back to Robin once the other stopped and turned around.

The open arms were a clear enough sign and Wally carefully handed Jeremy over to Robin.

"I won't be gone long. Just...don't touch anything in here. Got it?"

"Got it."

Robin gave a serious nod before he walked away with a quick step, leaving Wally alone in the room.

Wally watched him go before hesitantly looking back at the door where Batman was lying. He couldn't imagine why Robin didn't lock him up again. Just half an hour ago he had threatened him with his staff and now he was allowed to be in here? Outside of the cell?

Something wasn't adding up. Or they already knew him to be harmless, maybe had known for a while? He massaged his temple with a groan. Batman and his plans for a plan and an eventuality. Who knew how much these people knew or speculated about him?

No matter what it was, he was apparently allowed to be in here.

Sighing, he took the black mask around his eyes off. He traced the edge with it with his fingertips while walking over to his cell where he warily stood in front of it. There was still some kind of movie playing on the tiny monitor.

Looking around, he spotted a small swivel chair in the corner next to the cell opposite of his. He quickly went to grab it and rolled it in front of the open cell and sat down on it, his legs up on the cot he had been sleeping on.

Only then did he allow himself to relax fully. Bending his back felt wonderful and while his healing factor already took care of any sore muscles, Wally still felt the ghost of them throughout his body.

He eyed his boots for a moment, they were dirty and muddy from all the dust and rubble he had walked through, but he didn't feel comfortable taking them off. What if he had to run somewhere all of the sudden? Not that he could look any more ridiculous than he did now. The black paint on his chest, thankfully long dry, was proof of that.

But what he could get rid of were the gloves. He took them off and, along with the mask, threw them on the cot, the belt following seconds later. Although because of the weight it almost went too far and slid off the edge before it thankfully stopped at some point.

Wally nodded at himself and leaned back to watch whatever movie was on. Not that he was really seeing it. Instead, he waited a little while until carefully calling out "Oracle? Are you there?" But no one answered.

He continued to keep an ear out for a little while longer before simply watching the movie. Or being more or less confused about it since it was near the end and his thoughts kept wandering off.

Would they make him go back into the cell? Wally wasn't so sure if he could handle another day in there. Having had the opportunity to stretch his legs, despite the pressure of searching for someone, had been amazing. All that was missing now was a hot shower and a decent amount of food. Only that these people didn't know him that well.

He was still a stranger to them and being a stranger to Batman was never a good thing.

He resolved himself to not dwell on it too much. For now. There was nothing he could do anyway. Safe for actually running away and asking someone else for help but…he didn't know how different the others were in this dimension. Although he doubted that the Flash here would turn another Speedster down…would he?

No. If he ran now, then he'd have Batman and his friends after him, if only because he knew who Batman was.

Leaving now would be a mistake. He would wait, in the end no one would be able to keep him somewhere he didn't want to be anyway.
