Ayo who's ready to continue this story :D
With our much needed break settled, we continued our flight across the desert, traveling at night since the desert nights were much colder. Our shimmering white scales stood out starkly against the nightsky, but we were just as obvious in the roaming yellow dunes and bright blue skies in the daylight, so it was fair tradeoff.
In our excitement, we may or may not have actually known where we were going. We knew that the Sand Kingdom was directly north from our isolated former home, and that the Ice Kingdom was north from there but so was the Skywing Kingdom and we had heard stories of the Queen of the Skywings, who kidnapped soldiers and children alike, and they either never came out alive, or were so broken they joined the Queens cause.
No thank you!
I wasn't that worried that we was going to get captured, me and Aureus could take on anything.
Aureus snickered from behind me, "And I thought you were the down to earth one!" Did I say that outloud!?
Aureus was the noisier, slower, flier between the two of us, her wings needing to flap excessively. Aureus had always stayed visibly smaller than me. My wings could catch the wind and glide. Although she was the better diver… it didn't really matter. I didn't know why I saw the need to compete, we were both wonky fliers at best, our wings unused to this much exercise.
Deciding to ignore Aureus for now, I strained to see the map in the dark. We had been flying for a month, it could have taken less time had we been in better shape and if we hadn't kept getting sidetracked by all the stuff to see. We were headed for a large lake at the edge of the Skywing kingdom, as long as we didn't miss that landmark we should be fine. It led directly into the ocean and from there we could head west to the Icewing Kingdom.
"Hey Tundri!" called out Aureus with my childhood nickname, shaking me awake, I couldn't tell if it was sunrise or sunset. It didn't feel like I slept at all. Blearily I opened a single eye to see a blue snout in my face.
She hadn't used that name in ages. Which meant, she wanted something from me… Could she make it more obvious?
"Yesh?" I said in a slurred voice, peering at what she was holding, it seemed to be a small, fat, yellow lizard with dark brown speckles.
"Meet Sandy!"
"Sandy?" I responded incredously at the fat lizard once more, it was problay some sort of escaped pet, since it didn't try to run away , "What a… clever name."
Aureus not catching onto my sarcasm smiled back excitedly, "Yes! Because they are a clever lizard!" Aureus looked proudly down at "Sandy."
Said "clever" lizard in question licked his eyeball.
Giving Aureus the "are you kidding me" expression which I had mastered, I simply pointed towards the thing, "I think breakfast would be a better name."
Aureus gave a very undignified squeal, tucking the lizard under her wing, "I-I, No. Dinner!? How could you think of naming such an intelligent emotionally developed creature that!" The lizard promptly buried its head in the sand.
Turning my head towards the night sky I shrugged, "Technically it's dinner time." I said cooly, instead of answering her question to which Aureus just glared daggers at me, "I think we should name it Dinner, and like those dumb nightwing names we make it true! I am starving afterall."
POP
Aureus and me glanced down to see the lizard had escaped. "NO! SANDY COME BACK!" cried out Aureus beginning to dig, "You were supposed to keep me company from this SAVAGE over here."
Clearly they were very useful amazing detours.
As I was grumbling to myself my annoying companion did a flip in the air and loudly announced, "There it is! Turtle Lake! Yippie!"
Ah finally, we were on the right course.
I would really appreciate you to review or favorite this story if you like it that is! :D
