"The final evening of school had arrived and Chris was getting ready for his last leaving feast; he could not believe his time here at Hogwarts had come to an end. Seven years of magical education, friendships made and lost, multiple attempts on his life, a found heritage, and a new relationship which had brought everything to a roundabout end. Staring into the mirror, Chris could see his younger self looking back at him, "Well Harry, despite the way things have gone I wouldn't change it for anything and just between you and me, I can sense great things for the years to come.
"All set?" Lucius strolled into their room, catching Chris' eye in the reflection as he carefully laid Amy down on the bed and withdrew a set of papers from inside his robes.
"I think so," Chris replied, adjusting the collar on his robes into place. "Are you sure that you won't come down to the feast tonight?" Today would be the first time he would be back amongst the student body since Amy had been delivered.
Slipping his arms around Chris' waist, Lucius placed a quick kiss on his cheek. "Someone needs to take care of this little one, and there is no one around that I trust to do this. This is your time to be with your friends, some of these people you may never have the opportunity to be together with again, and from what I've heard, there will be a special announcement that you won't want to miss."
Chris' interest was piqued. "Ooh, anything exciting?"
Lucius chuckled, "If I told you, it wouldn't be a surprise, would it?"
"Chris pouted for a second before reaching up to peck Lucius on his lips. "I suppose you're right, if it was bad you would have told me. What do you have there?" He gestured to the papers securely tucked under Lucius' arm.
"These are our legal coverage." At Chris' confused expression, Lucius elaborated. "Amy needs to have a birth certificate, and while she is a product of ourselves, we do not want this getting around the ministry. I have a relative who was happy to have her name put down as Amy's birth mother on the stipulation that she was a surrogate. These other papers are then my adoptions papers so that no-one can attempt to take her from me should anything happen to you."
Chris took hold of the documents that Lucius passed across to him, his eyes widening as he took note of the name listed there. "You put me down as Harry Potter?"
"Another thing that had to be done right. You are still legally Harry Potter so that is the name we had to put down. As and when you want to change your name, your father and I will both support you."
Chris mulled over the papers for a moment. "For the time being, I will leave things as they are, especially if I am to go into healer training. As for now you are right, I should head up for the leaving feast before I miss it." He kissed Lucius again before leaning over Amy and tickling her belly eliciting a small giggle before he dashed out.
Neville had saved him a seat as he surreptitiously slipped into the Great Hall. As usual, the hall was decked out in the banners of the house who had won the House Cup. Gryffindor had been out of the picture since Christmas due to Hermione Granger's actions; Despite her academic efforts in class, none of the teachers rewarded her as they had previously done. In fact, it seemed they had gone the other way and were taking more points than they had before and, in a show of singularity and loyalty, none of the other Gryffindors felt inclined to do more than they needed to make up the deficit. Slytherin had narrowly won the Quidditch Cup, but even those points were not enough to cover the work the Ravenclaws had put in and thus the hall was decked out in blue and bronze.
As if they were waiting for Chris to arrive, the doors to the Great Hall fell shut and Dumbledore stood up. "Another year draws to a close and I do hope it's been a year you've been able to grow and develop, and fill your minds with things you will no doubt forget over the summer." He took a moment to look around the room, his eyes momentarily pausing over Chris and Hermione. "Although I hope some of you have learnt a valuable lesson from everything and will take this and apply it going forward. There are things that will be tolerated while you are at Hogwarts that will not be taken lightly once you are out in the world as a fully qualified wizard."
There was a second pause, in which you could hear a pin drop, before whispered conversations started up. Neville whispered into Chris' ear, "Now who do you think that was aimed at?"
"Well, we know who it was aimed at, but there are a couple of people it could apply to as well. But overall it is a general warning for everyone."
"Now," Dumbledore continued. "I have a special announcement to make; normally I would save this until the start of the new school year, but as you may have notice, our illustrious Defence Against the Dark Arts professor is absent this evening. As you know Professor Malfoy stepped in this year as a temporary replacement for Professor Tonks while she went on maternity leave and I am please to announce that she will be resuming her role with us next year. In addition to Professor Tonks, I am pleased to announce the return of another of our former professors; To share the workload and childcare duties between them Remus Lupin will be returning to us and becoming our second defence professor. I ask that you welcome the two of them to our table this evening."
"The door behind the staff table opened and Tonks and Remus stepped out, giving the hall a friendly wave as they did so and taking their seats. Remus' eyes sought out Chris', conveying a silent apology for not telling him about this news, but Chris inclined his head in an understanding way, passing along his congratulations.
"Now, for the last time this year, enjoy the feast."
"Well, that was a surprise I was not expecting," Chris mused to Neville. "I had no idea after the birth of Sirius that Tonks wanted to come back to Hogwarts. I expected her to take a couple of years off and then go back to the aurors. Just a shame we're not going to be around to experience any more of it."
"Are you sure that's not just because you're going to miss all the special attention you've had?"
"How dare you," Chris expressed in mock outrage. "I have never been given special attention, I have earned it every single time." They both dissolved into laughter, startling the others around them.
Talk soon moved onto the rest of their classmates, and what everyone was going to do next. Lavender and Parvati were looking into ministry jobs, Dean was looking to go into magical artistry, Ron and Neville had signed up for the auror trainee programme and Seamus was going to take a year out.
"I want to do some travelling before having to think about the future," he explained. "How about you Chris?"
Chris tipped his head to the side as if thinking. "Well, like you Seamus, I am going to take a year out, but for other reasons and from there we'll see what the future brings. As you may have heard, I have a special someone in my life and I want to spend some time enjoying each other's company." He looked around the group of his year mates thinking about how they have all developed over the years, and with the exception of Hermione, they had all come around full circle to where he had known them as Harry Potter. He picked up his goblet, "here's to the future, where ever we find ourselves."
