Chapter 15 - The Surprise - Part II
(20 minutes later)
Monique's car arrived at the Possible house. They had dropped Tara off at her house earlier.
However, being that it was summer and in the heat of the day, thunderhead clouds began to roll into Middleton. The good news was that it was not of the severe kind.
"So what's the RIT thing goin' on with your dad, Kim?" Monique asked.
"RIT?" Ron wondered about that Monique-speak translation.
"Really important thing, Ron." Kim provided the translation to her boyfriend.
Turning back to Monique, Kim said, "Dad didn't really provide any info, Monique. I guess we'll have to find out when we get inside!"
Then thunder began to rumble in their neighborhood.
"And I think we have to get inside the Possible casa like now!" Ron insisted, "Rufus does not like it when it's about to storm!"
"Especially if they are on the severe zone!" Kim exclaimed.
Rufus chittered and nodded his head in agreement before a rumble of thunder was heard. He dove back inside his owner's pocket.
Kim felt a few drops on her shoulder.
"Let's get to the door!" she exclaimed. She didn't want her overalls to get wet.
The three teens quickly got out of the car. Monique also unlocked the trunk so that Kim could get her brand new CB purple overalls and accessories. They ran up to the door under the awning and knocked on it.
James slowly opened the door.
"Ah, thank goodness you arrived!" he exclaimed as the rain began to come down. Thankfully, his daughter and friends were dry.
"So what's the sitch with the Utah trip, Dad?" Kim asked her most famous phrase to her father, putting her hands in the overalls pockets.
"Hope it's nothin' wrong with your car 'cause you would have a big problem there, Mr. P!" Monique added.
"I'll explain it in the den. Your mother and the twins are already there." James said while leading the three teens to the den. Kim set aside her CB shopping bag against the sofa and sat down. Ron and Monique also sat on the couch as well.
Ann and the Tweebs sat on the opposite end as a flash of lighting illuminated the windows followed by thunder.
"Now that everyone is here, I would like to get to the surprises. First off, Uncle Slim called me about an hour ago. He told me that he is going to a cowboy reunion convention in Nebraska for the next couple of weeks and he couldn't invite anyone else. So he is going to drop Joss off at Laramie, Wyoming and we'll bring her along on the trip!"
"So it's 7 people now?" Kim asked, "I hope we have enough room in the minivan for that."
She then stood up.
"Hopefully, that'll be the only surprise thrown at me for today, because I am going to pack for the trip."
"Kimberly Ann, sit down! I told you that there are surprise-s. The s is plural for a reason!" James commanded her while thunder rumbled nearby.
Kim reluctantly sat down and allowed her father to continue.
"The other surprise that came up is that Aunt June also called me up as well 30 minutes ago!" he explained.
"Aunt June..." Ron recalled, "Didn't she accept a new job as a secretary at Smarty-Mart a few months ago?"
"Yes, but she injured her foot and has to be in a cast for two weeks."
Kim, however, immediately knew what this meant. She began to panic.
"Oh no...you don't mean..."
"Yep, we are bringing Cousin Larry along to Utah!" James confirmed.
"NOOOOOOOOOOOO!" Kim exclaimed at the top of her lungs. It made car alarms blare and birds scatter out of the surrounding trees, followed with a bolt of lightning streaking across the sky and a loud roar of thunder.
(30 seconds later)
"Girl, what's wrong with that?" Monique asked, "I think it's pretty cool having the extended fam on the trip!"
"Monique, you just don't understand the gravity of the sitch that has just been handed to me!" Kim exclaimed.
"Say again?" Monique questioned, quite confused on where Kim was getting at.
"Have you even been around Larry for just around 30 minutes? It's like being stuck on the Planet Weird with his role-games or whatever they are called and sci-fi!" Kim explained with the thunder in the background and rain continuing to pelt the windows.
Monique was taken aback. "Oh, I just cannot wrap my head around that stuff...ugh..."
"Speculative fiction, KP!" Ron corrected her. "Don't denigrate the genre! And they are called role-play games!"
"Not helping, Ron!" Kim groaned while rubbing the temples of her forehead.
Turning back to Monique, the redhead added, "Thirty minutes just being around Larry is bad enough, but multiply that by two weeks in a minivan?!"
"We're talking major headache and migraine?" Monique asked.
"Code Red Major, Monique!" Kim groaned, "I'm getting Wade on this sitch." She quickly got out her Kimmunicator from her overalls cargo pocket.
"Come in, Wade..."
"Right here, Kim!" Wade said, coming on-screen. "What's up."
"Thank goodness! We have a major Utah sitch going on here!" Kim exclaimed, "Dad just added Larry and Joss to the trip. My R&R with Ron is so doomed!"
"So, according to my advanced calculations, that makes it eight people your dad is bringing on the trip." Wade said while typing away on the computer.
"Me, Ron, the Tweebs, Mom, Dad, Joss and Larry." Kim said while rolling down the names.
Rufus cleared his throat.
"Sorry...and Rufus!" Kim corrected herself.
"Sorry, Kim! The minivan cannot fit that many people and luggage in such a confined space." Wade confirmed.
"Thanks, Wade." Kim said before turning off the Kimmunicator.
"KP, does this mean the trip is axed?" Ron asked.
"I think that is a 100% chance, Ron." Kim sighed. "And this was supposed to be our first vacay together!"
But James and Anne were smirking. James was even twirling the keys of a different vehicle. A roar of thunder erupted outside, causing Rufus to shriek and dive into his owner's pocket.
"Again, Rufus is not a big fan of thunderstorms!" Ron exclaimed.
"Do you not forget our family motto?" James asked.
"Anything's possible for a Possible." Kim answered.
"That is correct!" James confirmed.
"Dad? Mom? Why are you smiling? Didn't you hear what Wade said?" Kim asked on her parents' facial expressions. "Eight people cannot fit in a seven-person minivan!"
"Who says we're taking the mini-van to Utah, Kimmie-cub?" James questioned, continuing to twirl the keys.
"We're not?" Kim questioned.
"Am I aware that there are only two vehicles in the garage?" Ron asked.
"There is one other vehicle that we have!" Ann added.
"May I direct you attention to the storage garage that we have in the backyard?" James asked, gesturing towards the Possible house's spacious backyard. The storage garage that the Possible's had had two garage bay doors.
Kim saw the backyard garage and muttered, "Please, don't tell me we are taking the..."
