Chapter 29 - Day 1: Railfanning Part 1
"...a railfan..." Kim moaned, exiting Larry's room. She saw Aunt May down below with her husband, Bill. The both of them were in their late 40s. May had brown hair and green eyes while Bill had blonde hair and blue eyes.
Also with them was Terri. Terri, at age 20, was about three years older than Kim. She stood about Kim's height. She had brown hair and blue eyes. She was wearing a white t-shirt with railroad-stripe overalls with both straps hooked and sneakers. The only jewelry she had on were hoop earrings.
"Heya, Kim! How's my favorite cousin?" Terri asked from downstairs.
Kim was on top, ready to come down.
"I'm doing spankin', Terri. Thanks for asking!" Kim replied, coming down the stairs.
"And heya, Aunt May and Uncle Bill!" she then added, hugging her aunt and uncle
"And hello to you too, Kimberly." May replied.
Bill then added "I thought we'd stop by and say hello to the Possible family!"
"Yeah, we're just passing through here on our way to Utah." Kim explained to the two.
"Let me guess...anniversary trip for James and Ann?" May asked.
"Pretty close, Aunt May. It's the proposal trip." Kim said.
"Yeah, it had to do with something." May said, "We got the call from June that she is planning some lunch today."
"That's correct!" Ron replied from upstairs. "Snackage is the most essential meal of the day."
"Umm...who's the guy again that's with you?" Terri asked.
"That's Ron, my sidekick and boyfriend!" Kim said to her.
"Oh right...the one who has Rufus!" Terri exclaimed.
Rufus crawled on top of the banister and waved hello.
"Heya!" the mole rat squeaked, waving his paw.
Terri waved back. "Hey, Rufus!"
Turning back to Kim, she then added, "Oh and Kim, would you like to see my model train set? It has grown substantially the last time you visited around here."
Kim nervously giggled and replied, "Terri, I would love to see it, but me, Ron, and the rest of the fam really need to hit the road pretty soon."
"I can send you a picture of it on my flip-phone." Terri suggested.
"Sounds good!" Kim said before hearing her stomach rumble.
She then added, "Right after we have lunch."
(12:25pm)
And so, June, May, Bill, James and Ann all gathered around the main table for lunch. Kim, Ron, Terri, the Tweebs, and Larry were confined to what Kim lovingly called "the kids table" in the foyer. The kids usually sat at that table for Thanksgiving and Christmas whenever June's house hosted one of those two holidays.
June made turkey and ham sandwiches for the kids and had plenty of enough to go around while she cooked up steak for the adults.
"Mmmm...this tastes yummy!" James remarked, taking a bite of the steak with his fork.
Ann also ate a small piece of the steak as the hooked strap of her overalls once again slid off her shoulder.
"So are you two going to re-enact the proposal at Bryce Canyon?" June asked.
"We are..." James replied, swallowing the piece of steak. "That is...if we can get the kids off our back for at least a couple of hours!"
June then took a sip of her glass of wine. In fact, she, Bill, Ann and May all were drinking glasses of wine. James, being the designated driver of the Platypus, was only drinking water.
"Yeah, we're going to find the right moment to distract them and them, poof, we'll be by ourselves for a couple of hours!" Ann giggled while the overalls strap was on her elbow and the bib curled forward. She pulled the strap back up again.
"Your daughter's going to take care of my Larry, right, James?" June asked.
"June, Kimberly is a crime fighter! She'll take care of Larry...even in her sleep!" May added.
"May is right on the nose, big sis!" James replied, taking a sip of water.
"It must be amazing for you to fight crime like that, Kim!" Terri exclaimed, eating her sandwich.
"Yeah, I stop supervillains from taking over the world." Kim grinned, "It's always their MO but it's so not the drama!"
"And I, as her boyfriend, also help in the distracting/sidekicking department..." Ron added.
Terri scratched her head and said, "Um...yeah...! Can I see Rufus, please?"
Rufus appeared on the table.
"Taa-dahh!" the mole rat squeaked.
"Awww...Rufus is so cute!" Terri grinned.
"Yeah..." Larry snorted, adjusting his glasses, "...especially compared to the Mole Gopher race in episode 22 of Space Passage!"
"Oh yeah, I saw that episode!" Ron exclaimed, "Rufus would definitely win Miss America over those rats!"
"So have you been on a mission involving a train, Kim?" Terri then asked.
"I was on one of those high-techy trains that contained all the known syntho-plasma in the world!" Kim recalled. "Best Mother's Day I've ever had with Mom!"
"Hey, I could've helped!" Ron countered.
"But you had the infamous 'Neverending Garage of Doom' to clean with your mom." Kim added, "And there was the lawn gnome."
"KP, we vowed to never speak of that gnome ever again!" Ron reminded her.
"I always want to see you in action on a train!" Terri replied with a smile, "I'm majoring in Railroading Engineering at CSU Pueblo and I am the foremost expert on trains!"
"Terri, I'd hate to tell you this but some of the villains may have freaky powers that you definitely don't wanna go near!" Kim warned her cousin.
"Awww...but still, I would like for you to see my train collection and help me spot a train!" Terri said, making an offer to Kim.
"Again, I would like to but my dad is on a very tight schedule here!" Kim said, despite really not showing much interest in Terri's hobbies.
Terri then did something drastic. She began to use puppy-dog eyes on Kim.
Kim looked at her wide-eyed.
"Wha...oh no, Terri! Not the puppy-dog pout!" Kim moaned, "That is my thing!"
"Rufus wants to wear a little conductor hat!" Ron added, pointing to Rufus holding a conductor hat and a small railroad lantern.
She sighed and caved in.
"Very well, you win this time!" Kim muttered, "I would have to consult with Dad first..."
