"No buts, Bella. You need to trust me on this one. You have people that love you so damn much that they would do anything to keep you safe, and we have faced far worse than this. I called Caius because we have no way of knowing how many newborns will be coming our way, and there was no way that I wasn't going to endanger you, Peter, and Char by being overconfident. This is what the Volturi do: they keep the world safe from threats like Victoria, and they've been doing it for thousands of years. You saw Jane's gift, she's a force to be reckoned with, and her brother Alec is too. Caius is positively lethal, just like Demetri and Felix. We will end Victoria and her newborn army together. End of discussion."

Bella - BPOV

I stare into Jasper's eyes as he tells me to trust him and cringe as I see the same hurt in his eyes as the one I felt when he exited the bathroom. I did that when I decided to go out there alone when I decided my mate couldn't help and protect me. God, I'm such an idiot.

I let out a loud sob as I throw myself into his arms and says: "I'm so sorry, Jasper. I didn't mean to…" The rest of my apology gets lost in translation as he leans in to kiss me passionately. I pull him closer and sigh relieved as I feel his love and devotion flow through me with all the hurt gone.

Jasper lifts my chin with his fingers so that I can meet his eyes and says: "Your self-sacrificing nature is what makes you the most loving and caring person I know, pumpkin. I wouldn't change it for the world, but we're a team. There's no Jasper without Bella, so no more stupid plans that get one of us killed. Got it?"

I take a step back and salute him as I say: "Aye, aye, Major!"

Jasper snickers as he playfully swats my ass. "Very funny, darlin'. Let's go downstairs to start your training. A newborn that knows how to fight is ten times more deadly than any normal vampire and it will ease my mind knowing that you can handle yourself in a fight."

I nod as I take his hand and let him lead me downstairs and out the back door where Peter and Char are waiting for us. The cold and hard look on Peter's face tells me I'm not going to like this one bit, but Jasper's right. I can't have him looking over his shoulder the entire fight to make sure I'm okay. That kind of distraction could become fatal very fast. I need to learn how to keep myself safe for both our sake.

I watch as Peter moves to the middle of the backyard and crouches down into a defensive stance, before signaling me to attack him as he says: "Okay, little miss, give me your best shot."

Jasper – JPOV

Char and I can't contain our laughter as Bella surprises the hell out of Peter by changing her attack at the very last second and jumping over him, after which she sends him flying across the backyard with a well-placed kick. Peter hides his surprise well as he walks back and says: "Not bad, cupcake. You have potential. Let's see if you can do that again."

Bella growls at the nickname and starts to circle Peter while looking for an opening in his defense. Her next attack is almost as good as her first. She successfully gets in a hit before Peter can block her. I continue to look at the training while Char talks to me about her ideas to train Bella's shield. It surprises me that she didn't use it on Peter yet. My Bella is definitely not your average newborn. Never before have I encountered a newborn that is as controlled and rational as she is. Bella is extraordinary and I still can't believe that she's mine.

Char giggles as she looks at my face and I raise my brow questioningly. She pats my shoulder lovingly as she says: "Love suits you, Jasper. I can truly say that I've never seen you this happy and content before. I'm so glad that you found her." I send her a wave of gratitude and love as I turn back to look at my Bella. Char is right. I've never been happier than since I realized Bella was mine for eternity. My life finally makes sense.

I let my mind wander as I think of all the places I want to show her when her newborn year is over. It's a good thing that we have an eternity to do so because one lifetime would never be enough. I can't wait to marry her and introduce her as Mrs. Jasper Whitlock when we travel the world together. I wonder if she would like to get married in Italy. I can imagine that Caius wants to be present to walk her down the aisle. I will have to ask her after her training.

A few hours pass with Peter continuously pushing Bella to new limits. I can feel that he's impressed by her. It makes me even prouder of my incredible mate. I've known Peter for more than a century now, and the fucker isn't easily impressed. A sudden shift in his stance makes Bella abort her attack. Peter looks at me and says: "Caius and his guards will be here in an hour."

Bella looks at him with a raised brow and says: "The knowing thing again?"

Peter lets out a booming laugh and says: "Yeah, cupcake, you'll get used to it. Training is over. You did well. Go freshen up, you stink." Bella smiles triumphantly as she hits Peter against the back of his head before he can dodge her. Damn, my woman is fast. I let out a purr as she walks toward me and pulls me close for a kiss.

I sigh happily as I pull back to look into her eyes and say: "You're incredible, darlin'. You were born to be a vampire. I've never seen anyone adapt so quickly to this life as you. I bet you will master your shield in no time as well. I love you so much, pumpkin. Now, go freshen up. I'll join you in a minute."

I feel a burst of love and desire as she leans in and whispers: "Please, hurry." She then kisses my cheek and rushes into the house. I hear the shower turn on a second later. I turn to Peter and say: "Report, Captain."

"I've never seen anyone like her, Major. Your mate is darn special. I was expecting her to eat dirt most of the time, but I only got the drop on her once. Wish my knower would have told me that in advance; maybe my ego wouldn't be so bruised then." I smile as I pick up on the large amount of pride that wells up inside Peter as he talks about Bella.

"I'm sure your ego is large enough to handle it, Captain. Maybe Char will kiss it better." Char giggles as Peter pulls her close and growls: "Now there's a good idea. Come on, woman, let's shower." A second later, I'm standing in the backyard alone. I make my way inside as well and groan as I hear Bella moaning my name. It's definitely time to shower.

Bella - BPOV

Fight training was hard, but I realized quickly that I was rather good at it. I smile as I remember Peter's surprised face when I successfully launched him across the lawn. Jasper is right. I was born to be a vampire. I've never felt more in tune with myself than after I got turned. It was my destiny to find Jasper and live an eternity by his side.

I step into the shower and sigh contently as the warm water washes all the dirt away. I pick up the soap and start washing my body while my mind envisions Jasper's hands on my body. God, I will never get enough of my man. I let out a soft moan as my hand caresses my breast and gasp for unneeded air a second later as I feel Jasper entering the shower and pressing his body up against my back.

"You're a naughty little thing, darlin'. Let me be of service, ma'am."

I can feel the arousal pooling between my legs as his words register in my brain. That accent will be the death of me, I'm sure of it. Jasper takes a deep breath and leans down to whisper in my ear. "Tell me what you want, darlin'."

I moan as I feel his hard member pressing against my lower back and say: "Fuck me, Major." He groans as he positions his member at my entrance and enters me from behind with one swift thrust. I moan loud as he grips my hips and says: "Like this, darlin'."

"Yes! Fuck, yes!"

"With pleasure, my Bella."

I scream out in pleasure as Jasper starts moving into me from behind with incredible speed. I give in to the emotions that swirl around inside me and realize that Jasper is projecting. The cocktail of love, devotion, lust, and desire that surrounds us has me gasping for air, and I'm already close to my first orgasm. Sex with an empath is incredible. I scream his name as the first orgasm hits me like a tsunami while Jasper continues to move inside me. I moan loudly as I feel the beginning of another orgasm building inside me. "So close… again… please… Jasper… come with me…"

I almost blackout as the second orgasm hits me, and Jasper groans as he falls over the edge with me. I squeak in surprise as he pulls out of me and spins me around to kiss me passionately. "I love you so much, pumpkin. You're the best thing that ever happened to me, Bella."

"I love you too, Jasper. I don't know what I would do without you."

"You will never have to find out, Bella."

I purr softly as Jasper reaches for the soap and starts to wash my body. I take the soap from him and do the same as we start one of our wordless conversations again. I smile as I feel the love he's sending me, and I send him mine in return. A sudden knock on our bedroom door pulls us out of our daze. "They'll be here in five, Major. Hurry up if you don't want Caius to find you in the shower with his baby girl."

Jasper - JPOV

I pull Bella back into my arms as she attempts to get out of the shower. "Where do you think you're going, darlin'?" She giggles as I lean down to kiss her neck, and says: "I'm going to get dressed so that I can welcome back my father. We will continue this later, Major, I promise."

I watch as she walks out into the bedroom, and say: "I'm keeping you to that promise, darlin'. You can bet on it." Her infectious giggle has me smiling as I follow her into the bedroom to get dressed as well. A shift in the emotions around us tells me that the Volturi have arrived. I give Bella a soft kiss on the top of her head and say: "They're here, pumpkin."

Bella nods and runs out to meet them with a smile on her face. I shake my head as I make my way downstairs. Only my Bella would be genuinely glad to have to Volturi over for a visit. Everyone has gathered in our living room, and I suppress the urge to kick Felix out as I notice how close he is standing to my Bella. I motion to Caius to take a seat and pull Bella into my lap as I sit down next to him.

Caius smiles at me knowingly and says: "I understand your urge to protect your mate, Major. I assure you, no one here means her harm. She is my daughter; she is as much a Volturi as she is a Whitlock. We will do whatever it takes to keep her safe. Now tell me about this woman who dares to threaten my dear Bella."

Everyone sits down as I tell the story about how we met James and his coven in Forks and how he decided to hunt Bella for fun. I tell them about how Bella escaped me at the airport and how she endangered herself by going to face him alone. I shiver as I tell them how we barely made it there in time to save her. Bella shows them the bite mark and tells them how Edward sucked the venom out to keep her from turning while I tore James's head from his body.

I tell them about my suspicions that James and Victoria were mates and how Edward told me that he didn't see anything in their minds that indicated they were. The family decided to leave Laurent and Victoria alone, seeing Laurent showed interest in becoming a vegetarian. I should have trusted my instincts instead of listening to them, but hindsight is always 20/20.

I continue the story by telling Caius about Laurent's visit and what he told us about Victoria's plans. It's the first time that I can get a clear read on Caius's emotions. He's absolutely livid by the time I finish up the story. Peter adds that we've been teaching Bella to fight and that Char has plans to get Bella to master her shield.

Caius nods in agreement and gives Bella a tender smile as he says: "She doesn't stand a chance, my daughter. She messed with the wrong covens. We will continue your training. Fighting a newborn is quite different from fighting a trained fighter like the Captain. We will need to prepare you accordingly."

I can feel Bella's worry as she asks: "Are newborns really that hard to fight?"

"Yes, my daughter. Our kind is never more physically powerful than in the first few months of this life as their human blood still lingers in their body. That's why they are created."

I snicker as Bella says: "Does that mean I'm stronger than all of you now?"
