Chapter 36
He wasn't sure what made the prospect so tempting that he had to indulge himself. Oliver Davis was not an indulgent man. He did not have typical vices, nor was he slave to the usual seductions of the 21st Century.
He could see it all as superficial.
However, this girl was anything, but usual. The more he tried to put her out of his mind; the more she kicked him out of his mundane thoughts. It was a bit of everything with her. The fire within her sense of righteousness, the warmth inside of her tea, the daydream behind her eyes, and the unbridled curiosity barely contained beneath it all.
He could see himself in her. Even when they first met. He had to admit realizing that she was an orphan softened him; not that he would ever admit it. However, it was her desire for the truth that made it difficult to look away.
He too, was a truth seeker.
More than that, he wanted her around, even in their worst moments. He wanted her to occupy space near his person. He hadn't felt that way since his brother, not even with his parents or Lin. He loved them, but the innate desire to want them around constantly was never like this.
Naru hadn't even realized this until he could feel her pulling away from him and further into herself in the past 2 months.
It was childish.
It was downright selfish.
But he wanted her to notice him and his efforts to comfort her. Even in his awkward and distant way.
And she had.
Peppered with genuine words of appreciation wrapped in his first language of sarcasm. How irresistible.
Then the urge to kiss her felt so natural. It scared him how little he cared about the pretense of being her boss or the others gathered on the other side of his door.
'So this is what they call reckless abandon.' Naru thought briefly before closing the distance.
Mai leaned back against her boss's desk to support herself because her legs nearly buckled in shear surprise. H-HE was kissing her! A minute ago, she was asking herself how long she could remain in his office before he'd kick her out. Now he was resting his hand on the desk and the other on her waist successfully trapping her.
'Kiss him back you idiot.' Mai said to herself so she did and rested her hands on his chest gently. He deepened the kiss and Mai couldn't help the light whimper that escaped her. Mai could feel herself starting to get dizzy for more reasons than one, and she separated so that she could breathe a bit. Mai's eyes searched for his lips and then dared to venture to his eyes, which were staring directly down at her.
"I—I believe that I'm very confused… I thought…. you… "Mai babbled like an idiot as her face began heating up.
"Come on and get your things together. Ms. Kazaana will be staying at a nearby dojo while she is here, and it's getting late. We'll have to drop her off soon." Was all he said and Mai nodded slowly, but couldn't move since Naru was still holding her.
"Ne… Naru, I can't move unless you let me. "Mai said softly. He looked down at her lips once more before releasing her and walking off. Mai picked up the empty teacup and the tray and left in a daze.
Mai headed straight for the kitchen and didn't dare to try behaving normally in front of everyone else. She busied herself with the dishes while she tried to make sense of what just transpired.
'I bet I'm just crazy and it never happened. I just imagined that the jackass I've been in love with for years kissed me. This is insanity. Yup. I've lost it. Although, on the off chance I didn't imagine it, why now? I mean, I did tell him I appreciated everything that he's done for me. Was that another confession? It felt more like I was just yelling at him for being such a narcissist. Does this mean he likes me? Oh God, I hope Lin comes over for dinner tonight otherwise this might get awkward.' Mai's thoughts raced a mile a minute.
"Earth to Mai. Finish this up, would you?" Sango said as she swirled the remainder of a bottle of sake in from of Mai.
"Sensei, I've never had alcohol before. I don't think now is a good time to start." Mai said trying to keep her eyes on the dishes.
"So the others tell me you live with this Mr. Shibuya. Are you two being intimate?" Sango said and Mai turned her head swiftly and blushed.
"N-no ! We are not an item sensei. It was a good arrangement for me when I broke my leg since he and Lin helped me out, took me to my appointments, and they're still helping me with my school work. "Mai explained hoping her teacher didn't get the wrong idea.
"So you've never had sex with him? Not even once?" Sango asked again squinting her eyes judgmentally.
"Absolutely not sensei! Can you stop trying to embarrass me?! I do work here you know." Mai said blushing deeply scrubbing even harder.
"Knowing your mother, she would have wanted to ask you the same questions. You live with your boss; it's bound to raise some eyebrows even if you explain it. I know you and you're a terrible liar so I'll drop it for now, but try the sake at least." Sango said and Mai eyed the bottle nervously. Sango grabbed one of the clean cups from the drying rack and filled it to the rim successfully emptying the bottle. Mai picked it up gingerly making sure she didn't spill any and took a small sip.
Mai shook her head and recoiled passing it back.
"Yuck! It made my throat burn! "Mai said putting it back on the counter.
"Yeah, it is pretty strong. That's exactly why I decided to take it away from that Monk character. Your friend Yasu challenged him to a drinking contest but was drinking water that whole time. He's a sneaky one." Sango said and laughed and so did Mai.
"I heard you'll be staying at another dojo tonight?" Mai said changing the subject and ventured to take another sip of the sake.
"Oh yes. Our sister dojo here in Shibuya. I offered to teach a few classes for the students there, but I should be done around 3 tomorrow. I told the doll looking girl that you'd be free in the morning to go with her to the spa if that's alright with you? "Sango reported and watched as Mai tried to finish the rest of the sake in one go, but couldn't and chased it with some sink water.
"Yeah, that's alright. I'll confirm the time with her in a minute. The plan for tomorrow is to do some research on Kasai, the ex-boyfriend of Keiko. I just wanted to know more about him and his father." Mai said wiping the excess water from her mouth.
"Just how do you plan on getting this information? Neither of us are private investigators." Sango asked raising an eyebrow and leaning back against the sink, arms crossed.
"That is where Yasuhara will come in. His father is actually pretty high up in the Shibuya police department, so I'll ask him for a favor. If you couldn't tell he's quite the practical joker, and I'm sure he'll make me do something embarrassing in exchange. We can meet up with him and see what he can find." Mai said getting down to business knowing how serious her teacher was on her threat.
'I'll have four days starting tomorrow to figure this out.' Mai thought and something inside her foreshadowed something bad. She wanted to pass it off as nervousness, but she knew her instincts too well.
"I see. You have some talented friends. To be honest, I was a bit put off when I found out you were working here with monks, priests, and mediums, but they all seem nice enough. Most importantly they care about you. Alright, kid, I'll leave you to it." Sango said and left the kitchen.
Mai was able to pull Yasu aside and inform him about her problem and he agreed to help out. She tried her best to frame it as a curiosity rather than a burning obsession. Plus, the fact that she was extremely psychic did help.
She also gleefully confirmed her plans with Masako. The last teenage girl activity she'd participated in was a house party and that didn't end so well. Masako actually made her feel normal and didn't bring up anything to make her uncomfortable or self-conscious.
The more time Mai spent with the medium, the more she was appreciative of her. The two were sharing a bit of banter when she was suddenly feeling sort of light headed.
"Mai are you okay?" John asked her noticing the girl stumbling a bit while she was cleaning up.
"Y-yeah, I'm f-fine. Iz's prolly just the sake." Mai slurred.
'I might be drunk.' Mai thought dreading what that would do to the rest of her night. Ayako came to her rescue and sat her back onto the couch.
"Mai, I didn't see you drinking? When did you have sake?" Ayako asked also noticing the girl swaying a bit.
"Sensei made me finish the bahttle after Monk lost to Yazzzu." Mai managed to say.
"Why don't you sit and we'll handle the rest?" Ayako said shaking her head in Sango's direction.
"I couldn't help myself. I just thought Mai would be even cuter if she was tipsy. HAHA! Perhaps I overdid it. Come here sweetie." Sango said and placed her head on her lap so they could both rest on the couch.
"Great. Now there are two drunk idiots." Masako said watching Monk squint her way. It was at this moment Naru chose to exit his office to the scene.
"I will be taking you and Mai home now. Clean up after yourselves and leave." Was all he said before he entered Lin's office with a folder in hand.
The others bid their goodbyes and Naru dropped off Mai's teacher within the hour. Mai noted that Lin would be closing up the office and therefore wouldn't be joining them for dinner that evening. The car ride was silent to the apartment mostly because Mai was still drunk and didn't want to say something stupid. Once they finally got upstairs Mai headed to the bathroom in hopes a nice shower would sober her up. She could hear the pots and pans rustling in the kitchen and let her thoughts wonder to what Naru could be making.
Once she exited her bedroom, she could smell spices and vegetables and chicken. Naru was already eating when she got to the living room, but he did make a plate for her as well. Mai sat across from him and starting poking her food around.
"Are you still drunk?" Naru asked already knowing the answer, but choose to assess her anyway.
"Maybe." Was all she said knowing the game he was playing at.
'I should just ask him.'
"Why did you kiss me?" Mai blurted out and Naru stopped eating and looked up at her and smirked. He didn't respond immediately only analyzed her body language.
"It's not like you actually like me. So I want to know why." Mai spoke again with a hollow laugh smirking right back. At this Naru's face fell and his brows furrowed.
"What brought you to that conclusion?" Naru queried.
"Well, it's true. You think that I'm in love with your brother." Mai combatted.
"Are you?" Naru asked Mai recoiled a bit hoping that in her current state of mind she could still go toe to toe with this man.
"I can still remember how shocked I was when you first asked me that. It really made me think. It was the first time I was able to see you and your brother as the two different people that you so obviously are. Eugene is kind and sweet, and he is quite forward and warm-hearted. You two have very few similarities, but I can still tell your brothers. But Naru, you're very driven and passionate about your work. You're obviously very smart and even though you can be closed off you have other ways of showing you care. Especially when you went back to England, I missed you. It didn't take much for me to realize it was you after that." Mai said and sighed upon realizing she confessed to him three times now.
'This is so embarrassing.' Mai thought no longer daring to look up at his piercing eyes that had yet to leave her face.
"I see. "Was all he said in response and Mai could feel embarrassment give way to fury.
"I think after all this I deserve a response Naru. Reject my feelings if you must, but don't you dare leave me without an answer." Mai said calmly, but there was a touch of her anger in her tone that made Oliver sigh.
"Mai, as you know my mind is very analytical in how it processes all things. You're most likely asking for an emotional response on account of what persuaded me to act the way I did-" Noll started. He was sure that Mai hadn't even realized she might short circuit him with this conversation.
"You mean to kiss me? Just say it. You kissed me." Mai interrupted her temper raring to go.
"Very well then, you are most likely asking for a typical response to why I kissed you. As a scientist, I could explain the chemical responses and endorphins that are released when people interact with one another such as touch, kissing, intercourse, and…"
"So you kissed me to get high on endorphins?" Mai interrupted again now just plain confused.
"Mai, if you stopped interrupting me perhaps, you'd understand me more clearly." Naru said his calm exterior cracking a bit as well.
"Fine, just get on with it then." Mai said and crossed her arms. Naru pinched the bridge of his nose and tried to regain his senses.
"Now, as I was saying there are many things that I cannot explain as eloquently as others when it comes to my emotions. My realm is science, reasons, evidence, and things of that nature. While I could try to explain why I kissed you it would most likely not give you the satisfactory response you are hoping for." Naru finished wanting nothing more than to retreat to bed.
"I never thought I'd hear you say you cannot do something, so this is kind of disheartening to hear. Listen Naru, there are lots of things that I can do now that once I could not because you keep pushing me to improve. So now I'm going to have to say bullshit on your little spiel and say you've got to try to verbalize your emotions. Look," Mai stopped and placed her hand on his.
"I know that when you were younger Gene could always tell people how you were feeling so you didn't have too. I'm not saying that I always need to know how you feel emotionally, even though that would make my life a thousand times easier. I'm saying that right now I need you to try to tell me how you feel so we can both move forward." Mai said wishing for Gene could train her to do twin telepathy instead of psychometry. He didn't move his hand away from Mai's but was silent for an entire minute before responding.
"You've been quite distant lately, which under the circumstances I wouldn't question. Something seemed off though, you were sad and grieving, but there have been some bouts of rage as well. This isn't something that aligned with your normal behavior patterns, but I'd never experienced you grieving before. Admittedly, I asked Madoka for help in ways to support you, and she was adamant about finding the perfect balance of giving you your space and being there for you. Contacting your teacher, allowing you to visit Keiko's grave, guiding your studies, inviting you to live with me, and kissing you were all my effort to help you. Perhaps I have failed in the methods of giving you space. It seems I've miscalculated." Naru said his smirk dropping and his voice falling into a monotone lecture style.
"So you kissed me because you pitied me?" Mai said her voice quivered betraying how she wanted to project her feelings.
"I would not define my motives as pity."
"Alright, then respond to the following questions with a yes or a no? This is the only way we can come to an understanding." Mai said and he said nothing, but Mai urged forward anyway.
"Are we friends?" Mai asked simply to begin. It was Naru's turn to push his food around his plate nervously.
"Yes." He said and Mai as relieved to know that they could at least share that.
"Do think I am a burden to you?" Mai questioned.
"No."
"Did you miss me when you left for England?"
"Yes."
"Are you sure it just wasn't the tea?" Mai asked and smiled a bit which he responded to with a smirk of his own.
"Yes, I am sure."
"Do you think I see you as a friend?" Mai asked and Naru's eyes grew dark, emotions played across his face.
"Yes, but I'm not sure how." He responded.
"Do you think that I love you?" Mai said her voice low and hesitant. This was when Naru realized that their hands were still touching. Her small fingers tightened and her eyes were raw with bare emotions.
"Again, I'm not sure how, but yes." Naru replied looking away from her honest gaze feeling ashamed somehow.
"Do you feel any emotions toward me stronger than friendship in a romantic sense?" Mai asked finally her voice barely louder than a whisper.
It was then that Naru suddenly felt confused.
He knew that he loved his mother and father, and even his troublesome brother. What he felt for Mai was vastly different but, in some ways, similar. He couldn't say for sure quite yet. He didn't have much to compare what he felt for Mai too, perhaps with more research, he could discern the emotion.
"I don't know yet. I'd need to understand it more." Naru said and pulled his hand away. Mai could feel her heart drop into her stomach. It wasn't a definite no, but it meant she would continue in this limbo of confusion.
"I see. Well then until you are sure of your feelings for me, please refrain from kissing me. It will lead me on and give me the wrong impression." Mai said and rose from the table without so much as touching her food. Just before she exited the hallway, she looked back at him.
"Good night Naru." Mai said and retreated to her room.
'I'm such an idiot.' They both thought simultaneously.
Needless to say, Mai hadn't slept that well that night. Not to mention, she was hung over the following morning. She got up earlier than usual to prepare for the long day ahead of her. Masako was supposed to pick her up around 7:30 am, which to Mai seemed completely ridiculous for a Saturday morning.
Who gets up early to relax?
It was completely unorthodox. By the time she'd thrown up, showered, and gotten ready and put a bit of makeup on it was only 7.
'Naru is either already at the office or in the kitchen reading.' Mai thought when she walked out of the bathroom only to see the aforementioned devil leaned up against the wall still in his pajamas and bed head.
"Where are you off to so early during the weekend?" He asked his voice rough with sleep making a light blush appear on Mai's face.
"I must have forgotten to tell you I'm going to the spa with Masako today, and then I'm meeting sensei later to do whatever sick idea she might have of a good time." Mai said smoothly congratulating herself on her little white lie.
"Right. What time should I expect you back later?" Naru asked folding his arms and letting his eyes wander to the floor, almost nervously.
'That's different.' Mai thought noting the strange air of insecurity about the narcissist.
"I'm not sure. Just text me or something if you get worried. Do you want some breakfast? I might have a bit a time before I go." Mai said nodding her head toward the kitchen.
He was silent at first, but then just nodded. He followed her and grabbed a book before sitting on the kitchen island.
"Do you have plans for today that don't include anything with the office or the paranormal?" Mai asked with a short chuckle as she set the water to boil and brought out two teacups. He didn't respond which gave Mai her answer.
"Hey do you remember after the first case we went on after I moved in when you said you'd try three new things?" Mai asked as she peaked in the fridge to see if she still had two cinnamon muffins left.
"Perhaps." Was all Mai heard with the addition of a page turning.
'Clearly, he's trying to pretend he isn't listening.' Mai thought as she placed both muffins in the microwave.
"Well clear your plans for next weekend because that's exactly what we'll be doing." Mai said turning around with her hands on her hip and a triumphant smile.
"I recall promising to try three new things, not sacrifice an entire weekend to do them." He countered not even looking up from his book.
"Well, then that was the fine print. Besides the things I have in mind might take more than one day." Mai huffed trying to prevent his attitude from getting to her.
"I see. Well, I'm reviewing a couple new cases this week. If the client wants us to come by this weekend, what do you suggest I do? Reschedule?" Naru countered again.
"Yes. You and I will reschedule. Perhaps we can reschedule at least two of them for another time." Mai said and began steeping the hot tea and grabbed the muffin and placed one in front of him.
"Fine, but if at any time during these 'activities' I need to leave for work, I will." Naru said and watched the heat rising from his pastry.
"Sure sure whatever. Jeez, you're taking the fun out of it before we even try it. I'll at least try to find something you wouldn't utterly detest. Have some faith narcissist. "Mai said placing his tea in front of him. He chose to say nothing as Mai picked at her own muffin and checked the time. Just as she reached for her phone it rang, and it was none other than the porcelain princess.
"Hey what's up?" Mai answered.
"I'm downstairs. Don't make me wait." Just like that, she hung up. Mai rolled her eyes and ran to find her shoes.
"Ugh! Where are my shoes?" Mai said running from room to room.
"Under the couch." Naru said just loud enough for her to hear. She rushed up and peaked under the couch and shoved her feet into them. Mai grabbed her purse and was about to head out before a sharp voice stopped her.
"Mai." She stopped and rolled her eyes. Her boss held out her keys and they jiggled as her hello kitty charm swayed looking back at her.
"Oh right thank you." Mai grabbed them and hugged him. Before she realized what she'd done the elevator sang its arrival.
"Yes, I was really surprised to see her. She never has time to visit because she does have a family of her own so who could blame her. Plus, I always tell her I'm doing just fine so she doesn't worry. I'm so grateful that you all called her here." Mai said as she sat back in the mud bath.
"Don't look here it was the Monk and Naru who called her over. I only found out just before you did." Masako said placing the cucumbers over her eyes.
"Yeah, she told me. I'm actually meeting up with her later today." Mai said wiggling her toes in the mud thinking the whole idea of a mud bath was quite odd.
"I see. Naru informed me there might be another case some private school. It might be interesting since the client is the principal.
"Masako commented.
"Wow. Reminds me of the first case we all had together!" Mai said sitting up too quickly and one of her cucumber slices fell into the mud.
"Yes. You're still the noisy little brat that broke that camera." Masako said and giggled.
"HEY!" Mai cried and lost the other cucumber slice.
Sango stood outside the Shibuya police station looking out for her little brunette firecracker.
Just as she was about to go in without her, a limo pulled up. Mai exited the luxurious vehicle and waved to her. She simply nodded her head and watched her mount the concrete steps of the building. Sango was caught off guard when her short arms hugged her tightly and looked up at her with a huge smile.
"Someone had a good morning." Sango said and laughed and squeezed back.
"Yeah right, I vomited and was so hung over. No thanks to you! I'm still happy to see you though." Mai said separating from her teacher and heading up the stairs. They arrived at the front desk where a beautiful curvy woman sat enjoying a cup of coffee.
"Good morning. We have an appointment with Mr. Yasuhara." Mai said politely.
"Your names?"
"Taniyama Mai and Kazaana Sango." Mai said and the woman nodded.
"Yes, he's in the library. Go through the double doors, head up to the stairs, and it'll be the second door on your right." She replied. They followed her directions and spotted Yasu at a large table toward the back of the room. As they approached, he lifted his head and waved politely.
"Hey guys, take a seat. I was just finishing up some last minute notes." Yasuhara said and he wrote a few things down on his paper pad.
"Did you find anything suspicious?" Mai asked cutting right to the chase. Yasuhara shuffled through a couple of documents he accumulated and pulled out a picture of her father in a mug shot. Mai let her eyes trace his appearance and cringed a bit when she noticed the smirk he wore as he held up his numbers.
"There he is. The bastard." Sango said cracking her knuckles.
"According to the records here, your father was called a number of times by your neighbors and your mother for domestic abuse charges. After a bit of time, he was held with no bail, but your mother never wanted to press charges. Naturally, after that, he was usually let go. This went on for a little over a year until it escalated to his demise." Yasuhara reported grimly from his notes.
"Yes, after he lost his job things were very difficult in the house. He drank heavily." Was all Mai said still looking at his mugshot.
"I remember speaking with your mother when she was in the hospital after he died. She was still wrapped up in how he used to be to ever press charges. It was only after he threatened to hurt you Mai, that she snapped out of it. She said next time she'd lock him up for good. I'm pretty sure that's how things escalated that night." Sango shared her voice low and angry.
"Keep going." Mai said not wanting to get bogged down in the past.
"Right. Allegedly your mother informed police that a lot of their arguments were about his loss of employment, his drinking, and more notable his infidelity." Yasu relayed causing Sango to raise her brows.
"What? Another woman? My goodness, what was Kanako thinking? She should have left that deadbe-" Sango started, but was cut off Mai.
"Yasu. Get to the point. What does that have to do with Kasai? I need to know if he is dangerous or not." Mai interrupted and her coworker nodded his understanding.
"Yes, well Mai. There's a video I'd like the two of you to watch, but it's quite disturbing in nature. It's of Kasai's father after he was apprehended at the scene of the crime and brought into an interrogation room." Yasu said and reached into his backpack for his laptop. He opened it and brought out some headphones. He swiveled the screen toward the girls and they each grabbed a headphone earpiece.
Mai pressed play.
A uniformed officer sat across from a man with blood on his shirt. His hands were also cuffed to the table and there were chains around the base of the chair where he sat.
"Why were you outside of a high school party tonight?" The officer began.
"I…wander." He said and smiled.
"I see. Well you wandered into an alleyway tonight, right? Did you claim it to be your home for the night?" The officer pressed on.
"How could I? There was another person already there crying? Boo hoo boo hoo." He said and chuckled simply.
"Are you territorial? Did you want the alleyway to yourself?" The officer continued on.
"Not particularly. I've shared many an alley with many a creature." He responded and began to sway back in forth in his seat slowly.
"Did she threaten you then? Try to hurt you?" The officer resumed.
"No. Boo hoo was boohooing, but not for long." He said and began to sway faster.
"The girl was crying when you arrived there, correct?" The officer questioned for clarifications.
"Yes, she was raining all over, but not for long." He said his eyes distant. He had yet to look the officer in the eye. He only sat and swayed and occasionally laughed.
"Did you feel bad for the girl in the alley? Did she remind you of yourself?" The officer went on. His swaying slowed and he smiled.
"Like me? No, I could only boo hoo for my son. Only for him. She was raining perhaps for him. I saw them together. Her hair was brown like it was supposed to be. Her dress was black like it was supposed to be. Her eyes were brown like they were supposed to be. Yes. I had to check." He said swaying slower.
"You knew her description…Did you go looking for her?" The officer struggled to follow and make sense of the statements she was receiving.
"I wander." He said again.
"You knew your son was dating this girl. Correct?"
"I saw them together." Was all he said and began to sway faster again.
"Why did you kill her?" The officer finally said more than likely becoming frustrated with his roundabout way of speaking.
"She was short like she was supposed to be. She went to that school like she was supposed to, but her…she… they were…" He suddenly stopped and the officer just waited for his response. The video was silent for at least a minute before the man slammed his face onto the table extremely hard.
"But her ears were pierced! They weren't supposed to be! I looked and they were pierced! I have to go back and try again. No! No! No! No! No! No!" He screamed and wretched against his shackled. The door opened immediately revealing two more male officers, but the female cop held her hand out to hold them.
"Sir! Did you mean to stab someone else that night? Were you searching for someone else?" She spoke loudly trying to bring him back from his tantrum.
"It was wrong. Now my eyes are raining too." He said pitifully and began to cry.
"Are you crying for your son now?" She asked and he nodded.
"When I left, he was quite young. Once I tried to come back, but there was another man there. My son told him he wished he was his father. He had a different family and they never knew it. I followed him home and warned my son that he had a wife and a child. He was still so young, but said: " So did you." My son was smart. I tried to make her die for him, but I was wrong." He spoke as blood dripped down his face from the self-inflicted wound.
"'Did you regret killing the girl? Did you regret leaving your son? Or did you kill the wrong girl?" The officer asked the questions in rapid-fire succession.
"I was wrong in all off it." He said as began to bang his head on the table again. This time the other officers intervened and the video stopped.
Sango and Mai removed their headphones and pushed the laptop back toward their investigator.
"The Shibuya police interviewed both in Kasai and his mother, and they actually agreed with most things that he said about his past, but also shared notions of his severe mental illness. Therefore, he was recently sent to a top-tier mental institution to await trial, but it looks like that he'll definitely be sentenced to life in an institution with this evidence file. He also failed the mental evaluation given to him three days after the murder." Yasu shared referring to his notepad once again.
"My god. He's completely unhinged." Sango said.
"True, but there was some truth to the things he said. Which made me dig a bit deeper into his statements. Apparently, Kasai's mother was able to give police the name of the man she was seeing briefly." Yasuhara said and hesitated.
"Get on with it." Sango urged this time.
"She said his name was Muso Taniyama, which is apparently your father." Yasuhara said finally.
